Chapter 1
July must be the hottest month in this southern city. The sun blazes down in the gray-white sky, and even
the clouds seem to have vanished from the heat. I'm a girl who grew up in the north, and I've always dreamed of living in the
warm , where I wouldn't have to warm my blankets before bed and could wear skirts every day. But after only one day here,
I've realized how naive my ideas were. In this sweltering heat, I'm

stopped laughing. That hotel lobby attendant was staring at me lecherously again. It's infuriating!
Yesterday when I checked in, that attendant had a wicked grin on his face, staring at my chest. If he were tall and handsome
