The results of a survey on women's extramarital affairs are startling.

A survey on women's sexual status revealed that over 94% of women consider sex important or very important in marriage, indicating they still have
normal sexual needs. However, whether they achieve sexual satisfaction depends on "fate"—whether they "marry well." The survey also showed that
only 20% of women were very satisfied with their sex lives, while 25% claimed dissatisfaction or great dissatisfaction, and the remaining 55% were relatively satisfied.
Another survey report indicated that 62.8% of Chinese women have only one sexual partner, 29.1% have two to three, and 9.1% have more than three.
This means approximately 40% of women engage in extramarital sex. Due to the influence of traditional culture, the proportion of extramarital sex among Chinese women is far lower than in Western countries, such as the United States
(66%) and France (87% of wives are unfaithful). Of course, dissatisfaction doesn't necessarily lead to infidelity, and infidelity doesn't necessarily mean dissatisfaction.

Extramarital sex, also known as "affairs," is a sexual act in contrast to the monogamous marriage system. Monogamy should not equate to having only one partner. Theoretically
, extramarital sex should be avoided as much as possible because it is incompatible with a happy and harmonious marriage and family. It can not only lead to the breakdown of marital
relationships and the disintegration of marriage and family, but also cause harm to children's development and social order. From
the perspective of human sexual physiology, sexual psychology, and human nature, extramarital sex is understandable, even unavoidable and impossible to eradicate. Strangely, men go to great lengths to seek extramarital affairs, yet
vehemently prohibit their wives from having affairs with others. Moreover, most societies are more tolerant of men's extramarital sex than of women's (
except for the Clinton and Lewinsky cases). No country or law in the world can completely and effectively prohibit extramarital sex. Therefore, with
the emergence of the modern concept of "human rights," the laws and regulations of many countries have become more humane, increasingly tolerant of consensual extramarital sex, including China, which has abolished
the crime of "adultery."

From a woman's perspective, there are many reasons for extramarital sex. In the broader context: unprecedented population migration and the expansion of virtual social circles;
increased flexibility in commuting hours and the rapid popularization of mobile phones, computers, and the internet; media and public opinion saturated with various sexual information; the prevalence of unspoken rules, making
sex a passport and a ticket; and the pervasive awareness of sexual consumption, where sex can generate wealth and power, making it easy to gain social status and money simply through extramarital sex
—a truly tempting prospect.

Furthermore, from a micro-environmental perspective (including our clinical practice), encountering the wrong person is a significant factor. If the husband is constantly philandering, the wife, consciously or unconsciously
, may retaliate in kind. Sexual frustration is undoubtedly a crucial reason: some men are morally averse to sex throughout their lives (for example,
a high school principal publicly stated that humans shouldn't be inferior to animals, as animals only go into heat once or twice a year); some men suffer from poor health (for example, a man with testicular
seminoma had one testicle removed, leaving only one; although it doesn't affect function, the psychological trauma lingers);
there are ; of course, not being sexually frustrated doesn't necessarily mean the absence of extramarital sex, as it often brings new and more pleasurable sexual experiences, giving them
unprecedented sexual satisfaction, showing them new horizons, and even leading to a lifelong pursuit; infidelity may also simply be to fill an emotional void, ultimately becoming
a new source of sexual pleasure. Of course, it cannot be ruled out that spouses may be separated for long periods of time, and one or both may have the opportunity to have an affair while traveling for work or on vacation; while some families have a more open attitude towards sex
, and may even go out to meet friends together or have their own freedom, and enjoy themselves.

Surveys show that among women who have had extramarital affairs, 51% were completely unaware of their husbands' involvement. Some women, after engaging in extramarital sex, become
more gentle and considerate towards their husbands due to guilt, leading to a more harmonious marital life. The cumulative incidence of extramarital sex among women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s is 7%, 16%, and 26%,
respectively extramarital affairs is 30, with a peak age of 36-40. Based on the length of marriage, this coincides with the so-called "
seven-year itch," and may actually occur earlier. Is this a sign of civilized progress or moral decay? It is indeed perplexing because scientific research and the harsh
reality show that increasingly casual sexual behavior is a major route for the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS, and may also lead to social crimes (mainly
crimes of passion) and various negative impacts on teenagers. When having an extramarital affair, women are more likely to focus on practical issues, such as the future of the children,
their ability to overcome the hostility of the other party's family, and the relationship between them.
