【Halloween Night Parade of One Hundred Demons: The Sunshine Maiden】(1~4)

Word count: 5600
Hmm... I don't really know how to write this kind of topic.
I rushed to write a short piece early this morning to respond (but then I was drowsy all day again...sad...).
If anyone wants to read it, please reply and let me know (because there will be some explicit content, but not much... so I guess most people aren't interested in reading it~).
Anyway, I'll decide whether to continue writing later~
------------------
Zhang Xiaofan is a college student. He has a problem lately, which is about his girlfriend Xiaolan. For some reason, Xiaolan has recently become fond of the Sunshine Doll, or rather, the Sunny Doll, which is hung on the eaves of the house to pray for sunshine. It has a round head and a cute smiling face on it.
Xiao Lan is a good artist, but lately she's been drawing a teru teru bozu (a Japanese doll that wards off bad weather) every now and then. She cuts it out and gives it to Xiao Fan, saying with a smile, "Don't you think that when you're in a bad mood, watching it sway quietly makes you feel better?"
"Um, Xiao Fan, have you ever heard the teru teru bozu's 'Snowy Doll Song'?"
Without waiting for Xiao Fan's reply, she starts singing:
"Teru teru bozu, teru teru bozu, I hope tomorrow will be a good day. If so, I'll give you a golden bell.
Teru teru bozu, teru teru bozu, I hope tomorrow will be a good day. If so, I'll give you delicious wine.
Teru teru bozu, teru teru bozu, I hope tomorrow will be a good day. If not, I'll cut off your head."
Xiao Lan sings and laughs happily.
Xiao Fan notices that in Xiao Lan's everyday items, like pendants or mugs, there's often a small teru teru bozu on them. He feels something's off about her and wants to take her out to participate in some activities.
Recently, some classmates were discussing a "test of courage" event. The organizer was a guy from another department whose family runs a shrine; they'd already held two events before, and the reviews seemed positive. The cost was also relatively cheap, but the downside was the limited number of participants—too many people and things could get messy.
Xiao Fan thought it sounded interesting, so she signed herself and Xiao Lan up. Luckily, they both got in. Xiao Lan wasn't particularly interested, but since they'd already signed up, she figured they might as well go.
Friday evening, the weather was exceptionally good. Even past six o'clock, the sky wasn't dark yet, with dappled sunset colors still hanging in the air.
Xiao Fan and Xiao Lan arrived at the central square at the agreed time. While they were still looking around, a dark-skinned, muscular young man approached them and said, "Hello, my name is Da Jun, and I'm one of the organizers of this event. Are you also here for the 'Test of Courage' competition?"
Upon hearing this, Xiao Fan knew he had come to the right place and immediately felt a sense of belonging, nodding eagerly. After Da Jun led them over, there were six people in total, including them—four men and two women. Xiao Fan also saw his classmate Tie Tou and waved to him with a smile.
After nodding to everyone, Da Jun began, "Everyone's here. Before we set off, let's all introduce ourselves. I'll start. Hello everyone, my name is Da Jun. I chose this location for the 'Test of Courage' event. I hope you all have a great time today, haha. If anyone encounters any problems later, you can call my mobile phone at 0937698456. Next up is the friend to my left."
Xiao Fan was right to his left. Xiao Fan said, "My name is Zhang Xiao Fan. I've always liked exciting things. This is my girlfriend; we're here together."
Next was Xiao Lan. She wasn't tall, but her proportions were excellent, making her appear much taller than she actually was. She wore light makeup and a light blue shirt. Her clear, crisp voice invigorated the men present. After her introduction, it was Tie Tou's turn.
Tie Tou scratched his bald head and said, "Just call me Tie Tou, I won't explain why, you can probably tell." Another woman present laughed, lightening the atmosphere considerably.
Next up was that girl, petite and cute, with a round, apple-shaped face and flawless skin that made you want to pinch her cheeks. She smiled sweetly and said, "My name is Yang Zilan, but my friends call me Lanzi, just the name backwards, haha."
Then came the last person, a fair-skinned young man, who said casually, "Zhang Wenyuan."
After everyone knew each other's names or nicknames, the group went to a restaurant for a meal. After they had eaten and drunk their fill, it was already getting dark. The clouds were thick that night, and the crescent moon appeared and disappeared like a beauty half-veiled.
Dajun led them onto a bus. Xiaofan, holding Xiaolan's hand, boarded the bus, and the six of them found seats close together. After eating, the blood was concentrated in his stomach, making Xiaofan a little sleepy, so he fell asleep while holding his girlfriend's smooth little hand.
Later, he was groggily woken up. After getting off the bus, he looked around. They had traveled from the city center to the suburbs. After walking for a while, Dajun suddenly stopped and said, "We're here." Only then did Xiaofan realize that a slightly eerie forest had appeared in front of him, lush and green trees stretching as far as the eye could see, with only the shadows of the trees swaying occasionally.
Da Jun took out flashlights from his backpack and handed them to everyone: "Wait for me, I'll go first, everyone stay close, don't get separated."
The moment they stepped into the forest, Xiao Fan felt a cold and damp atmosphere, as if many demons and monsters were lurking in the darkness waiting to devour them. He couldn't help but shiver. Xiao Lan, who was beside him, noticed this and asked, "What's wrong? Are you cold?" Xiao Fan was a little uneasy: "No, no," but he held Xiao Lan's hand even tighter.
After walking a short distance with the army, everyone proceeded cautiously due to the uneven terrain, stray tree roots, and weeds. The forest was filled with the chirping of various insects. Just then, Lanzi suddenly asked nervously, "Did you hear anything?"
Tietou yawned and asked, "What sound?" Lanzi said uneasily, "A sharp, strange sound. I'm not good at describing it."
The group looked at each other, their flashlight beams revealing puzzled expressions on their faces. Lanzi, seeing everyone's expressions, forced a smile and said, "Maybe I misheard." The army chuckled and brushed it off, "Don't be so nervous. Shall I tell you a joke?"
Lanzi's attention was immediately drawn to the joke: "Okay, I want to hear it!"
"Hmm... let me think. One day, a piece of dough, looking a little shy, said to Meatball, 'I have a favor to ask you.'
Meatball asked curiously, 'What is it?'
The dough said, 'Actually, I've had a crush on the toast girl next door for a long time. Can you help me think of a way to get her to agree to this?'
Meatball patted his chest generously and said, 'No problem, I've got it covered.'"
Dajun suddenly stopped talking. Lanzi, who was listening intently, asked, "And then? What happened?" Dajun paused and laughed, "And then... and then the next day they were discovered to have turned into meat buns!"
Just as Lanzi was still stunned and didn't quite understand, Zhang Xiaofan understood and burst out laughing. Then everyone else gradually understood and joined in the laughter, easing the atmosphere considerably.
As time ticked by, they arrived at a rather inconspicuous two-story wooden house. It looked like it had been abandoned for quite some time, with vines climbing all over the outside and bits of wood scattered on the ground. Zhang Xiaofan couldn't understand why there would be a house in such an uninhabitable place.
Xiao Lan exclaimed, "Could this house be a haunted house?"
Da Jun chuckled and said, "Well, I found this house by chance. Although it doesn't look very impressive from the outside, the furniture inside is quite complete. But everyone should be prepared. Given the terrain, the time of day, and the fact that the forest blocks out a lot of yang energy, we might encounter ghosts."
Zhang Wenyuan said calmly, "I don't believe it. There are no ghosts in this world."
At this moment, Zhang Xiaofan's adventurous nature was aroused, so he said, "Let's go in and take a look." He took the lead and went in. After entering, he shone his flashlight around. There was a lot of dust in the room, and in some places, the dust had been wiped away by footprints or other marks. He guessed that these were traces left by the previous two groups of participants.
At this time, the others also came in and looked around. Tie Tou shouted loudly, "Hey, there's nothing here. You were making it sound so scary just now," with a hint of disappointment in his voice.
Dajun said seriously, "Don't touch anything inside." He then took out six white candles from his backpack, lit them with a lighter, and the room became much brighter. The flickering flames were weak in the darkness, making one worry that they would go out soon, but they remained lit without any sign of extinguishing. After everyone received a white candle, Dajun said, "Let's turn off the flashlights and move on to the next activity." Tietou
asked excitedly, "Will we be able to see ghosts this way?" Lanzi said nervously, "I think it's better not to see them." Zhang Wenyuan snorted but didn't say anything.
After Zhang Xiaofan's excitement subsided, he noticed that Xiaolan was unusually quiet tonight. After asking her what was wrong, he found that she seemed a little dazed, so he leaned close to her ear and said, "Don't be nervous. If anything happens, I will protect you." At this moment, Dajun
said loudly, "Let's play the game 'Tales of Ghosts'!"
Zhang Xiaofan felt that this game sounded familiar, but he couldn't quite remember what it was. Tietou, on the other hand, clearly knew more about it than Zhang Xiaofan. Immediately, he asked, "Are you talking about that game where you take turns telling ghost stories and then blow out the candles? But that requires a hundred candles, right? We don't have enough people, do we?"
Da Jun chuckled twice
and said, "We can still play even if we don't have enough people. Just play for fun, it won't hurt. Okay, Tie Tou already explained the rules, so let's sit on the ground in a circle now." After everyone had chosen their spots, Da Jun held the candle to his chest, the flickering flame making his usually honest and simple face look somewhat eerie. "So this time, Xiao Fan will start. The person who finishes blowing out the candle will designate the next person."
Actually, before coming, Xiao Fan had already inquired about the general situation and knew that he needed to prepare some ghost stories. He guessed that the others were probably in the same boat, so although it was a bit sudden, he wasn't flustered.
After thinking for a moment, he said, "Then... let me tell you a story about the Bridge of Helplessness... I wonder if anyone has heard
of the poem by Guo Ai, a female poet from the Ming Dynasty?"
"Let's make a pact, you and I, to be together for a hundred years. If either of us dies at ninety-seven, we'll wait for each other for three years on the Bridge of Helplessness." He glanced around and, seeing everyone seemed confused, said in a low voice, "
There was a man named Tang Chen. One day, his grandfather suddenly passed away without warning. On the seventh day after his death, it was his turn to keep vigil. That night, it was raining heavily, and everyone else in the family was in another room not far away, leaving him alone in the room to keep vigil."
Xiao Fan paused, swallowed, and continued, "He was bored, so he picked up a book and read silently. But the pattering rain outside the window made him somewhat irritable, and the incense burning from the nearby mourning hall made his nose itch. So he put down the book, went to the window, and looked out at the misty outside through the thick glass. Thinking of his deceased grandfather, he felt a pang of sadness." "
Because his grandfather passed away on his centennial birthday, turning a joyous occasion into a funeral." "
However, thinking of a centennial reminded Tang Chen of a long-standing children's rhyme from his hometown: 'Let's join hands, let's promise to be together for a hundred years, '" "Whoever dies at ninety-seven, waits three years on the Bridge of Helplessness."
"Suddenly, a thought struck him: the nursery rhyme says the first to die must keep their promise and wait three years, otherwise they're breaking their promise. So... what if someone lives past one hundred? Would that also be considered breaking the promise?"
Tang Chen began frantically searching his memory. How old was Grandma Qiu next door when she died? It seemed like one hundred... Come to think of it, his friend's grandfather, who lived three streets away, passed away last year, also around one hundred years old. He started trying to recall the funerals he'd attended since childhood, but the more he thought, the more his scalp tingled. Was this really just a coincidence?
Tang Chen grew increasingly terrified. Could it be that his grandfather's death was because his grandmother was waiting down there until his grandfather turned one hundred, then she'd come and take him away immediately? Tang Chen picked up a winter coat and covered himself, trying to find some warmth. He tried to reassure himself that it must be a coincidence, it couldn't be like that, he was just scaring himself.
Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck him, and childhood memories surfaced. Around middle school, he and his neighbor, Yu-ru, were very close, often exploring new places together. "
On a lush, green lawn, Yu-ru lay beside him, softly humming, 'Let's be together, we'll promise each other a hundred years. Whoever dies at ninety-seven, will wait three years on the Bridge of Helplessness.' After humming, she turned to Tang Chen, frowning, and said, 'A hundred years is too long...how about we change it to thirty years?'"
"At that time, Tang Chen was experiencing his first love, and of course, he was happy to accept whatever his beloved said. So they held hands and sang, 'Let's be together, we'll promise each other thirty years. Whoever dies at twenty-seven, will wait three years on the Bridge of Helplessness.' But Yu-ru later fell seriously ill and passed away, and this memory gradually faded away." "
Thinking about this, large beads of sweat rolled down Tang Chen's forehead. He looked at his watch; it was just past midnight. Today... was his thirtieth birthday."
"He buried his head in the quilt, but could still hear a faint, somewhat familiar girl's voice coming from outside the door, 'Let's make a promise...'"
After the story was finished, Lanzi covered her face and said, "How scary!" Xiaofan looked at Xiaolan beside him, whose face was also a little pale, so he squeezed her little hand to tell her not to be so scared, and then blew out the white candle in front of him.
There were five candles left.
Xiao Fan glanced at Xiao Lan beside him, whose expression remained uncertain. Unsure who to choose to tell a story, he closed his eyes, pointed randomly, and opened them to find Zhang Wenyuan. After a moment's thought, Zhang Wenyuan picked up a candle and slowly began, "Since Zhang Xiaofan told a story about the Bridge of Helplessness, I'll complete the set and tell another story about the Bridge of Helplessness."
"This is a story about A Tu. In his previous life, he was a famous chef. No matter what kind of dish it was, once he tasted it, he could instantly identify what ingredients were used to cook it. After some time and experimentation, he could even recreate the dish exactly as it was originally. But in the end, he was poisoned to death by his enemies in his food."
He arrived at the Bridge of Helplessness, and looking at the long line of people before him, he asked curiously, "What are we queuing for here?" Someone next to him replied, "Duh, this is the Bridge of Helplessness, of course we're queuing to drink Meng Po's soup!" Atu's eyes lit up at the mention of Meng Po's soup. He always had an immense interest in dishes he had never tasted before, and Meng Po's soup was, to him, a dish he had never tried before.
As the line shortened, and it was almost his turn, he could already smell the faint aroma of the soup, making him even more eager. But when he thought of the rumors that drinking Meng Po's soup would make him forget everything, he worried that even if he remembered the taste of the soup, he would forget it the next moment, right?
"As time passed, it was finally his turn. Meng Po brought him a bowl of clear soup. He hesitated, 'This is Meng Po's soup? How is it made?' Meng Po ignored him, only saying, 'Drink it quickly, there are a lot of people waiting behind you!'"
"A-Tu thought it didn't matter if she didn't tell him; he was confident his talent could help him decipher it. As the Meng Po soup slid across his tongue, the flavors were broken down by A-Tu, piecing together various ingredients in his mind. He kept recalling that taste until he entered reincarnation." "
After reincarnation, he actually didn't forget that taste; he still retained the memory. However, he couldn't make it, because in his previous life he was a master chef, but in this life he was a complete culinary idiot. But later, through step-by-step effort, he actually managed to make it." "
He took it to several classmates, and everyone who tasted it praised it highly, asking if there was any more, saying they had never tasted such delicious soup. " The next day, everyone who drank the soup lost their memories. It turned out that the soup he made not only replicated the taste of the Meng Po soup (a legendary soup of oblivion), but also its power. From then on, he never touched the dish again. "
But one day, he suddenly unearthed this memory from the deepest recesses of his mind. He saw his beloved girlfriend and his best friend walking out of a hotel, embracing each other. His heart ached unbearably. When he came to his senses, he was standing in the kitchen, a bowl of clear soup in front of him, emitting a faint fragrance."
"He made this soup for himself. He couldn't bear the sight of his girlfriend kissing his best friend every time he closed his eyes. The pain of betrayal made him subconsciously make this soup again. He wanted to forget his past with his girlfriend so he wouldn't suffer anymore."
After drinking the soup, he muttered to himself, "This soup really tastes the same as the one I drank at the Bridge of Helplessness. Well, before my memories fade, I want to tell you, I love you. Whether you like it or not, I have to say it. I love you." "
But now, after this soup takes effect, I will forget the memory of loving you."
"I will no longer be sad because of you."
"I will no longer remember you."
"And I will not remember... where you two are buried."
Upon hearing this, Tie Tou exclaimed, "Damn, what does this mean?"
Xiao Fan rolled his eyes and said, "Idiot! Ah Tu killed those two and buried them."
Zhang Wenyuan said calmly, "I always think humans are more terrifying than ghosts... Heh..."
He opened his lips and gently blew out the candles.
Four candles remained.
