It's not convenient to reveal too much about my mother's private diary here. Details will be presented later. To get back to
the main point. After breakfast and a brief exchange of pleasantries, my mother-in-law bid farewell to my mother. I seized the opportunity to interject and also bid farewell to my mother. I had initially felt that bidding farewell so abruptly was too presumptuous, and that my mother would find it difficult to accept. However, after a few polite refusals, she didn't try to persuade me to stay, as if she had been mentally prepared. I had thought my mother would try her best to persuade my wife and me to stay, at least to have my wife stay a few more days, but unexpectedly, she was quite agreeable this time, without much sentimentality. This surprised me, and the guilt I felt about bidding farewell lessened somewhat.
Although my mother didn't try to persuade us to stay much, perhaps out of respect for my mother-in-law, she insisted on seeing us off at the airport. After packing our things, we called Hao Hu to drive, and the three of us, including my mother, left the Hao family ancestral home. Hao Jianghua and a leader surnamed Zheng, along with several key cadres and a group of female relatives including Xu Lin, Cen Xiaowei, Wang Shiyun, and Wu Tong, saw us off.
As the Land Rover drove out of the courtyard, I glanced back at the crowd, my gaze landing on the leader surnamed Zheng. He had a large belly, squinting eyes, and was waving goodbye while puffing out cigarette smoke. Beside him, Hao Jianghua, dressed in a suit and tie, with a balding head, gazed into the distance. The group of female relatives, dressed in bright red and green, graceful and charming, all waved goodbye with smiles.
"Jianghua, Mayor Zheng, tell everyone to go home, don't see us off—" My mother-in-law leaned out of the rear window, waving goodbye to everyone.
"Mother-in-law—next Spring Festival, Jianghua will take Xuanshi to Beijing to pay New Year's respects to you and father-in-law," Hao Jianghua called out loudly, catching up a few steps. "Have a safe journey and return home safely!"
"Thank you for your kindness, father-in-law," my mother-in-law replied loudly. "Old Bai and I have cleaned the doorway to welcome our in-laws to our humble abode!"
A gust of cold wind swept by, swallowing the mother-in-law's words, carrying them far, far away. The crowd gradually blurred, becoming sparse, with a few young people still chasing after the car. They ran and laughed, carefree and joyful. Looking closely, Hao Jie was among them, peering out the car window, glancing at his wife every now and then, his eyes filled with reluctance.
"Go back, Hao Jie, don't see me off," his wife said, rolling down the window and smiling sweetly.
"I don't have anything else to do, I just wanted to see my sister-in-law off a little longer, hehe—" Hao Jie scratched his head, looking adorably simple-minded. "Sister-in-law and elder brother, you must come to Haojiagou again for the New Year. In Haojiagou, we have lion dances, dragon lantern performances, and flower drum operas—it's much more lively than in the city! Oh, sister-in-law, there's something I forgot to give you." He then pulled a beautiful notebook from his pocket, glanced at me, and stammered, "Sister-in-law…this notebook contains all my poems. I've heard you're a good writer, refined and elegant, and often compose a poem or two, so I'm presenting my humble work. Please feel free to offer your corrections."
Hao Jie's clumsy acting was obvious to any discerning person; it couldn't fool me.
Besides, my wife was incredibly perceptive; she had already guessed his meaning before he even spoke.
Out of politeness, his wife couldn't refuse, so she said perfunctorily, "Alright, I'll take a look for you. If there's anything wrong, please don't mind. That's enough for now, our car needs to speed up. Goodbye, Hao Jie—"
"Thank you, sister-in-law, thank you, sister-in-law…" Hao Jie was overjoyed, stopped, and waved vigorously. "Sister-in-law, take care! Brother, we won't see you off!"
After the car drove away, his wife flipped through a few pages of the notebook, then chuckled and said, "Mom, you have the highest level of literary cultivation. Help Hao Jie revise his poems."
His mother-in-law took the notebook, opened to the first page, and read aloud: "Remembering the plum blossoms on the west bank of the river, I picked plum blossoms and sent them to the north bank. The single gauze was red with apricot blossoms, and the hair was the color of ducklings. Where is the west bank? At the bridge where two oars meet. At dusk, the shrike flies, and the wind blows through the tallow tree. Under the tree is the door, and inside the door, a jade hairpin is revealed. I open the door, but my lover doesn't come. I go out to pick red lotus flowers. Picking lotus flowers in the south." Autumn in the pond, lotus flowers taller than a person's head. I bend down to pick lotus seeds, their clarity like water. I place a lotus in my sleeve, its heart a deep, bright red. I remember my beloved not coming, I look up at the flying geese.
Geese fly all over the western island, I gaze at my beloved from the high tower. The tower is high, the view endless, I lean on the railing all day. The railing has twelve curves, my hands hanging down, bright as jade.
I roll up the curtain, the sky is high, the sea water sways, empty and green. The sea water dreams leisurely, your sorrow is my sorrow too. The south wind knows my heart, blowing my dreams to the western island. "
He paused, glanced at everyone, and continued, 'This is a Yuefu poem, titled "West Island Song," not written by Hao Jie himself…'
'Mom, look at the rest, there's something he wrote himself,' his wife said with a smile."
Upon hearing this, my mother-in-law flipped through several pages, then lowered her head and read aloud: "Ode to a Beauty, by Hao Jie. A single-layered apricot-flower dress, her cloud-like hair framing her face under the moon. Slender white hands, bright, shooting star-like eyes. Resting her chin on her hand, her brows relaxed, her
cheeks flushed with a glance. Silent and speechless, she waits quietly for her lover to return!" She paused, then clicked her tongue in praise: "Not bad, quite literary, the rhymes are perfect, it reads smoothly. I never imagined Hao Jie had such literary talent, how delightful!" I sneered inwardly, thinking: What Ode to a Beauty? This guy has ulterior motives, probably wrote it for his wife.
And "waiting quietly for his lover to return," what a shameless fellow, he probably thinks my Yingying is his own woman. There isn't a single good man in Haojiagou!
(176)
"It's rare for my mother-in-law to think so highly of him, this is Hao Jie's good fortune," my mother said, turning around and smiling, smoothing her sideburns.
"Hao Jie has always had excellent grades; he's the first college student from Haojiagou. He's a hard worker, bringing honor to the family, filial to his elders, and diligent in his work. He'll definitely be a pillar of society in the future. His four siblings are all hardworking, filial to their parents, and very sensible children." She paused, looked at Hao Hu, and continued, "Although the eldest, Hao Hu, didn't have much formal education, he's very strong and has good legwork. Once, when I was on a business trip, we encountered three thugs trying to snatch our bags just outside the high-speed rail station. He knocked them down with a few punches and kicks, and they were lying on the ground, too scared to move."
Hao Hu smiled shyly at us in response to his mother's praise.
"Well, I didn't hear you say that," his wife said casually, patting Hao Hu's shoulder and leaning against the back of his seat.
"I never knew you fought off three thugs single-handedly! If Mom hadn't told us, we'd still be completely in the dark."
The mother-in-law glared at her wife, then retorted, "You little devil! Hao Hu was driving. You suddenly punched him; weren't you afraid of scaring him and causing an accident?"
"It's alright, Auntie," Hao Hu sighed, turning around. "I'm brave; I won't be scared. Auntie, we'll probably be at the airport in seven or eight minutes."
The mother nodded, speaking softly, "Don't worry, Mother-in-law, Hao Hu drives very steadily. We're almost at the airport. If it weren't for your busy schedule, I'd love for you to stay another night so we sisters could have a good chat."
"Mother-in-law, there's plenty of time in the future," the mother-in-law smiled. "Didn't your father-in-law say he'd take you to Beijing to pay New Year's visits next year? Lao Bai and I welcome you and your husband to visit anytime. We sisters can have a great time then."
"Mom, if you and Uncle Hao come to Beijing for the Spring Festival, I'll be your tour guide. I'll take you to all the famous historical sites like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace!" the wife exclaimed happily. "And there are all sorts of local delicacies like Peking duck, dan dan noodles, Indian roti, and hot dry noodles—I'll take you to every shop to try them all."
My mother smiled slightly and said, "Okay, I'll thank you on behalf of your father-in-law. He's so lucky to have such a good daughter-in-law like you. I've already visited the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, and other famous historical sites. I don't find them anything special. But your father-in-law rarely goes to Beijing and has never even climbed the Great Wall. If you take him sightseeing, he'll be overjoyed and won't want to leave."
Hearing this, my heart tightened, and I frowned, thinking to myself: Old man Hao is obsessed with women. Leaving him alone with my wife, I really can't imagine what the consequences will be. If he really comes to Beijing with my mother, and my wife takes them sightseeing, I'll still have to go along. It's best if old man Hao doesn't come. Otherwise, if he stays at my house and acts like he's at home, wouldn't I hear him "slapping" my mother every night? Just thinking about his face makes me uncomfortable, let alone seeing him every day! Old Hao moved into my house, so I'd better keep a close eye on him to prevent him from getting handsy with my wife. Humph, if he dares to misbehave, I'll chop off his hand!
While I was thinking this, we arrived at the airport. After parking the car, Hao Hu found a trolley and loaded all our luggage onto it for check-in. My mother and wife each pushed a stroller. The four of us chatted and laughed as we took the elevator to the third-floor coffee shop, each ordering a drink.
About ten minutes later, Hao Hu returned and told us the luggage had been checked in. My mother invited Hao Hu to sit down and asked what he wanted to drink. Hao Hu smiled and politely said, "Auntie, no need, I'll just sit here." My mother smiled and said, "I can't let you just sit there. I know you like Coke, so I'll order you one." After saying that, my mother called over a waitress, ordered a large Coke, and several plates of pastries and snacks.
We chatted and ate until, without realizing it, the airport announcement came over the loudspeaker, reminding passengers that flight AZ120 to Beijing would depart in thirty minutes and urging everyone to check in and board as soon as possible. So, we went down to the second-floor hall, and after walking a few dozen steps, we reached the security checkpoint.
"Mother-in-law, wait a moment," my mother-in-law stopped, turned around, and said with a smile.
My mother stretched out her arms and gave my mother-in-law a long hug, saying with reluctance, "Even after a thousand miles of separation, we must part. Mother-in-law, let's take a picture together at the airport to remember this moment."
"Okay—Jingjing, go to the service desk and ask a photographer to take a picture of us, and get it developed right away," my mother-in-law instructed.
I agreed and called the photographer. After taking a picture of my mother and mother-in-law, my wife joined in, and the three of them took a picture together. Then, with me, the four of us took another picture together. Afterwards, I suggested taking a few pictures with my mother alone, and she readily agreed.
"Son, when you return to Beijing, take good care of your family and career. Especially prioritize your family, and take good care of Yingying and the two children. Remember what I say," my mother instructed before leaving. "Come home early after work, spend more time with Yingying and the children, and don't smoke or drink excessively, or pick up those bad habits. If you have time, remember to bring Yingying and the children to visit me; I'll welcome you anytime."
(177)
"I remember, Mom—" I nodded solemnly, hugged my mother tightly, and kissed her forehead deeply. "Mom, take care of yourself. Yingying and I will come to see you whenever we have time."
I couldn't tell if it was love, hate, or both. My strong arms tightly encircled my mother's frail body, as if I wanted to crush her, yet also as if I wanted to hold on forever. After these past few days, I knew that the mother I remembered was drifting further and further away from me. Perhaps, one day, my mother would be completely and utterly possessed by Hao Jianghua, and I would lose her forever.
As I passed through security, I kept turning back, unable to get enough of my mother's familiar yet unfamiliar face. Her waving and expectant posture were so much like the figure I'd seen off to university. However, things were different then. What remained unchanged was the passage of time, but what had changed was my mother's heart and the ways of the world. Thinking of this, a tear rolled down my cheek, blurring my vision.
"Honey, why are your eyes red?" my wife asked, looking at me with concern.
I quickly wiped my eyes with my sleeve, forced a smile, and said casually, "I accidentally got some dust in my eye, but it's nothing serious, I can wipe it off."
Hearing this, my mother-in-law glanced at me, already understanding. She didn't say anything, just smiled, and then reached out her slender hand to take mine. Our hands clasped tightly, and a warm current flowed from my mother-in-law to my heart. I finally understood that in this cold winter, at least one woman made me feel that deep maternal love.
As soon as we boarded the plane, after only a few words, my wife fell asleep on me, looking very tired. To avoid waking her, I gently reclined the seat, letting her half-lie down. Then I took off my coat and covered her with it, gazing lovingly at her rosy cheeks.
She slept soundly, her breathing even. Her delicate features—curved eyelashes, a pretty nose, and a slight upturn at the corners of her mouth—were striking. Even in her sleep, she seemed ready to argue at any moment, so beautiful and adorable. Overwhelmed with emotion, I held my breath and gently kissed the corner of her lips. This tiny, fleeting touch felt like I was afraid of disturbing her sweet dreams, for that would be an unforgivable sin.
"Asleep?" my mother-in-law asked softly.
"Yes, Mom—" I replied, gazing at my wife with a blissful expression. "Yingying is sleeping so soundly, our little sleeping beauty. By the way, Mom, you should rest too."
"No need, Mom isn't sleepy," my mother-in-law shook her head and took my hand. "Let this girl sleep, don't worry about her. Jingjing, come sit here and talk to Mom."
"Okay—" I agreed, stepping over my wife and sitting down in the middle.
"Mom wants to tell you something, Jingjing. After we get off the plane, your father-in-law will send his driver to pick us up. You and Yingying will stay at my house tonight. Your father-in-law misses his two grandchildren very much. This time, let Yingying take the two grandchildren home and keep your father-in-law company. Your father-in-law will start his annual leave of more than half a month tomorrow, so that the three generations can enjoy family time together," my mother-in-law instructed softly.
"Okay, Mom," I nodded.
"Your work isn't too busy these days, so spend more time with your parents. The six of us are a happy family, sharing warmth and sweetness," my mother-in-law said, stroking my hand and winking at me. "Do you remember what I told you that night we stayed at Hengshan? When you get home, you must cherish Yingying. In my experience, the best way to love a woman is to spend more time with her. There's nothing to be shy about at my house; you two can do whatever you normally do."
I understood the implication in her words perfectly, and my face flushed red as I mumbled a vague agreement.
"Remember what I said: the more dignified and proper a woman is, the more she likes a rough man once they're in bed,"
my mother-in-law chuckled, leaning close to my ear. "My daughter, I'm very perceptive. Don't let her aloof and ethereal demeanor fool you; she's thirsty for attention deep down. You need to know when to be gentle with Yingying and when not to. Only then can you truly capture her heart, make her understand the principle of 'husband is king,' and make
her obedient to you." "Thank you for your advice, Mother. I'll remember it well—" I glanced around, trembling with fear. "Mom, to be honest, when we went back to Haojiagou, I passed on a secret recipe for an aphrodisiac soup to Yingying. I tried it once; it's incredibly potent, keeping me going all night. Good things shouldn't be kept to oneself. How about this, I'll have Yingying pass it on to you, so Daddy Bai can also enjoy the blessing of having two wives."
My mother-in-law immediately slapped my thigh, her face stern, and said, "You little rascal, Jingjing, daring to talk back to your parents! If your father-in-law finds out, he'll skin you alive!" Then she smiled mysteriously and asked, "Is it really that powerful? Tsk tsk, then from now on, Jingjing, you'll be in the bridal chamber every day and a groom every night. Okay, tonight when we get home, let your father-in-law have a taste and verify the truth of your words..."
Before she finished speaking, we looked at each other and chuckled to ourselves.
(178)
Stepping out of Beijing Airport, the car sent by my father-in-law was already waiting for us. The driver was a young man, about twenty-one or twenty-two years old, whom my mother-in-law called Xiao Tao. Xiao Tao was quick-witted and efficient; he had been my father-in-law's full-time driver for less than half a year, but he had already gained his trust. After getting into the car, we drove for about half an hour and arrived at the foot of a mountain. Looking around, we saw rows of secluded villas with their own courtyards, nestled among the green hills and clear waters.
"Alright, finally home—" As soon as we entered, my wife flopped onto the sofa, too lazy to move. "Honey, I want apple juice, mwah—"
My mother-in-law said irritably, "You little devil, didn't you get enough sleep on the plane? You just walked in the door and you're already bossing people around. You don't have hands or feet, if you want apple juice, can't you pour it yourself! Jingjing, listen to your mother, don't spoil her bad habits."
How could I disobey my wife? I chuckled sheepishly, scratched my forehead, and went into the kitchen. After making a glass of apple juice, knowing my mother-in-law liked candied tangerines, I made her a glass of tangerine juice too. I brought both glasses out, and my wife was already sitting cross-legged on the sofa, holding the TV remote, constantly changing channels.
"Honey, your apple juice is here—" I drawled, handing the apple juice to my wife.
My wife couldn't wait to take a sip, then put it on the coffee table, jumped up, wrapped her arms around my neck, and gave me a big bear hug. Caught off guard, I nearly stumbled and fell to the ground, inwardly yelling, "Oh my god, that scared me to death!"
"Honey, I know you love me the most," my wife pouted, pecking at my cheek repeatedly.
"Come here, mwah, honey, mwah..."
My mother-in-law came out of the bedroom, already changed into her pajamas, walked to the sofa, and slapped my wife's bottom.
"You little devil, look how happy you are! You're so lucky to have such a good husband like Jingjing,"
my mother-in-law glared at my wife. "You think you're a two- or three-year-old child, clinging to your husband like that. If outsiders saw this, you'd be mortified. Get down here and go take a shower!"
My wife became playful, sticking out her tongue and making faces at my mother-in-law, making my mother-in-law reach out to hit her again.
I quickly shielded my wife, standing in front of my mother-in-law. My mother-in-law, annoyed, slapped my bottom again, making me howl in pain.
"Mom, you hit the wrong person, that's my bottom!" I grimaced, one arm around my wife's slender waist, the other rubbing my own bottom.
My mother-in-law chuckled and said sullenly, "Who told you to protect your wife's bottom? I'm spanking your bottom. If you dare to protect her again, I'll spank you again." She then glared at me, sat down on the sofa, and tidied her sideburns.
I could only chuckle awkwardly and turn to my wife, saying, "Honey, listen to your mother, we'll watch TV later. Go take a nice, relaxing shower first." My wife peeked out from behind me, looked at her mother, and smacked her lips, saying, "Mom, it hurts your heart to hit me. Next time you spank me, remember to tell me beforehand, and I'll gladly offer my bottom. Mom, it's a deal, no more like it."
My mother-in-law was immediately left speechless, got up, took a few steps to me, gritted her teeth, and said, "Jingjing, get out of my way. I'm going to teach this girl a lesson. I slapped her once, and she's still so stubborn. Looks like I'll have to give her a second and a third slap..."
"Mom, calm down. Yingying was just joking with you, having a good laugh," I said, feeling helpless and at a loss. "Honey, listen to your mother, go take a shower."
My wife grinned, made a face, turned, and ran off, disappearing into the bathroom and locking the door behind her. My mother-in-law chased after her for a few steps, then stopped, a smile on her face.
"You little devil—" she shook her head. "You're a mother now, and you're still so mischievous. When your father comes home tonight, let him give you a good talking to."
"Mom, take a rest, have some orange juice." I eagerly brought her a glass of orange juice and handed it to her.
"I know you like candied tangerines, so I just squeezed some for you. Try it and see how it tastes."
My mother-in-law glanced at me, took the juice, poked my forehead, and laughed, "You—you're so useless.
It's not that I'm criticizing you, but loving your wife is a good thing, but you can't spoil her too much. I'm afraid if you spoil her too much, she'll develop a lot of bad habits, and you'll regret it later." "
No, no, I definitely won't spoil her again," I said meekly.
My mother-in-law sat down, took a sip of the juice, and gestured towards me. I looked in the direction she was pointing, but it was towards the bathroom, which puzzled me. So, my mother-in-law beckoned me over, whispered a word in my ear, "a couple's bath," and I suddenly understood.
"Hurry up, hurry up—" My mother-in-law got up and pushed me to the bathroom door. "The room is big enough, even if you two make a huge commotion in there, no outsiders will hear."
My mother-in-law was forcing me into this situation, and although I'm a shy son-in-law, I couldn't refuse. Within minutes of entering, a continuous "slap slap slap" sound came from the bathroom, I wonder if it made her blush.
(179)
After staying at my mother-in-law's house for one night, I remembered the matter Wang Shiyun had entrusted to me, so the next afternoon, I went to her house.
This was my first time visiting Wang Shiyun's house, a large four-bedroom, two-living-room house within the inner third ring road, which was spotless and tidy. The marble floor in the living room was polished to a shine, almost reflecting one's image. The most dazzling sight was undoubtedly the enormous floor-length wedding photo hanging on the central wall. In the photo, Wang Shiyun wore a pure white, elegant wedding dress, her shoulders bare, smiling sweetly, nestled affectionately beside her husband.
Wang Shiyun's husband was named Huang Junru, and like his name, he was refined and dashing. When he spoke to me, he was humorous, witty, and articulate. I could clearly sense from his words that he loved his family, his wife, and their children very much.
Yet, Wang Shiyun had chosen to betray such an excellent man. If Huang Junru knew the truth, wouldn't it be too cruel to suddenly lose everything he had? Therefore, after much thought, I decided to remain silent and not become the fuse that ignites someone else's happy family.
As we talked, it was already past five o'clock, and Huang Junru checked his watch.
"Sorry, it's time to pick up my daughter," Huang Junru said apologetically. "Why don't you wait for me a bit? I'll go pick her up from kindergarten and come right back. If you don't mind, why don't you stay for dinner?"
"I was just about to leave anyway, so why don't I come with you and go see Duoduo at kindergarten?" I declined.
"Let's skip dinner. Next time, you bring Shiyun, and I'll bring Baiying, and our two families can have a proper meal together."
"Okay, it's a deal," Huang Junru gave me a high five. "Duoduo goes to kindergarten not far from our neighborhood, it's just a few minutes' drive. Let's go downstairs."
Upon arriving at the kindergarten, a large group of adults had already gathered at the gate to pick up their children. We waited for five or six minutes before the gate slowly opened. Led by several female teachers, the children rushed out, laughing, and ran towards their families.
Among the children, I immediately recognized Huang Chuyun; the little one looked so much like her mother, Wang Shiyun.
She was carrying a Hello Kitty cartoon backpack, her fair face rosy, and her big, watery eyes searching for something in the crowd.
Suddenly, she spotted her target, and the little one ran out of the gate, laughing, and buried her face in Huang Junru's arms.
"Daddy, Daddy—" Duoduo cried sweetly, her voice clear and adorable. "Daddy's embrace is so warm, Duoduo wants to sleep with Daddy tonight…" Seemingly noticing me standing beside her, watching her intently, Duoduo's eyes darted around, and she looked in my direction.
"Who is this strange uncle? Why is he staring at me?" Duoduo tilted her head, staring with innocent, big eyes. "Daddy, Daddy, look at that weird uncle!"
Huang Junru squatted down, hugged his daughter, and said with a smile, "Duoduo, you have to be polite to the uncle. He's not a weird uncle. This uncle is Mommy's good friend. Mommy asked him to bring you a nice gift."
After hearing Huang Junru's words, Duoduo stared at me for a long time before saying sweetly, "Uncle, I'm sorry, I misspoke. Please forgive me." Then she asked in a clear voice, "What gift did Mommy ask Uncle to bring for me? Is it a Hello Kitty?"
"Yes, Duoduo—" I squatted down and held Duoduo's chubby little hand. "Your mommy loves you so much. She said Dodo loves Hello Kitty the most, so she asked Uncle to bring it over for you. Uncle left the Hello Kitty doll at Dodo's house, so Dodo can see it as soon as she gets home."
"Thank you, Uncle—" Dodo said, hugging my neck and giving me a quick kiss on the cheek.
"How's Mommy? When Uncle sees Mommy, please tell her that Dodo misses her very much. Also, Daddy misses her too, and wants her to come home soon."
The child's genuine emotions brought tears to my eyes, and a pang of sadness welled up in my chest. I forced a smile and said, "Your mommy is doing well. She told Uncle that she'll be home soon to reunite with Dodo and her daddy."
"Thank you, Uncle," Dodo said, giving me another kiss on the cheek. "Uncle is so kind. Mommy is all alone out there, it must be so hard for her. Uncle, please take good care of Mommy for Duoduo. Duoduo will definitely thank you properly later."
"Yes, Uncle will remember Duoduo's words..." I turned around and secretly wiped my eyes, then stood up and said to Huang Junru, "Brother Junru, please take Duoduo home. Let's get together another day."
"Okay, let's get together another day," Huang Junru shook hands with me goodbye. "Brother Zuojing, take care, goodbye—"
"Goodbye!" I waved. "Duoduo, bye-bye—"
"Uncle, bye-bye—" Duoduo waved as she spoke, revealing two sweet dimples.

After watching the father and daughter get into the car and leave, my original sadness turned into even more desolation. Not for any other reason than that a happy family of three had been betrayed by a wife who had devotedly waited for her husband, and a mother who had hurt her innocent and lovely daughter.
"Oh, Wang Shiyun, you've let your husband and daughter down. Your daughter considers me your friend, but as your friend, I feel deeply ashamed for you," I sighed inwardly, my heart heavy with sorrow. "Such a comfortable and wealthy family, such an outstanding and handsome husband, such a beautiful and lovely daughter—I don't understand why you would have an affair? I truly feel sorry for your husband and daughter!"
Of course, the misfortune of Huang Junru's family also moved me deeply, causing me to shed tears. However, compared to Huang Junru, I should actually be shedding tears for myself. Years later, when I opened my mother's private diary, I finally understood something. It turned out that my tears today were not only for Huang Junru, but also for myself.
If at first it was just suspicion and distrust, it was this private diary of my mother's that shattered the last glimmer of hope I held onto. Seeing that the shameful affair had been exposed, faced with overwhelming evidence, my mother knew that the truth could not be hidden forever, and feeling deeply guilty, she simply avoided seeing me. My father-in-law, consumed by rage, severed ties with my wife and fell ill, eventually passing away in bitterness. After arranging his funeral, my wife lost a lot of weight. One day, she suddenly left a note and disappeared without a trace.
In the note, she wrote: "Husband, I'm leaving. Take care of Mom for me, don't look for me. I'm sorry, I don't deserve to call you that, but I still wanted to call you 'husband' before I left..."
Actually, from that night on, I knew I had made a terrible mistake. I blame myself for not being firm enough, for being soft-hearted, thinking I could get away with it... Later, for the sake of Xuan Shi's mother, I chose to compromise and forgive, thus embarking on a path of no return, sinking deeper and deeper into the mire...
I don't know why, but sometimes, I can't even recognize what kind of woman I am... I know that one day, the truth will come out, and I won't have a good ending. But I never expected the ending to be so tragic! In front of you and Mom, I've lost all shame. If possible, I'd rather die in Dad's place…
Now, without pretense, without sophistry, without distorting the truth, I finally breathe a sigh of relief. For the sake of both mothers, and even more so for your own sake, I beg you not to act impulsively and seek revenge on Hao Jianghua. It's simply not worth it. Forget me. If there is an afterlife, I hope Buddha will bless us to meet again at Shiqiao.
After reading my wife's letter, I rushed to Haojiagou that very night and found Hao Jianghua attending a meeting in the county town. Taking him by surprise, I stabbed him three times in the back and was immediately apprehended by security guards. The next day, my mother-in-law, having heard the news, rushed over and slapped my mother across the face, viciously cursing, "You shameless woman! I don't have a mother-in-law like you!"
I witnessed my mother-in-law slapping my mother. At that moment, as tears of regret welled up in my mother's eyes, a voice cried out in my heart: Mom, please stop crying, don't cry—because your son has never blamed you!
Yes, I placed all my resentment on Hao Jianghua alone, even if it meant exchanging my young life for his crippled body, half-buried in the ground. All the consequences had to be borne by that old man Hao alone. Without him, my mother wouldn't have fallen into the vortex of desire, becoming his plaything, at his beck and call, until he reached out his evil hand to his wife.
My concept of what kind of woman my mother was became increasingly vague, finally returning to a state of hazy enlightenment. At this moment, the memory became very clear; it was the warmest harbor.
When the strongest sperm met the shy, budding egg, they danced an incredible dance, tightly intertwined, tumbling and tearing, tearing and tumbling… and so, in my ignorance, my embryonic form was born. Ten months of pregnancy, one day of childbirth. From the womb, through the vagina, I breathed in the first fresh air of the world.
My little ears tightened, hearing a heart-wrenching cry of a newborn, then being lifted high by a pair of soft hands. Wanting to see who was so annoying, I struggled to open my eyes, and what came into view was a face more beautiful than an angel's. She lay quietly, her expression serene and peaceful, a few strands of disheveled hair falling across her sweaty forehead. Through her slightly weary face, I could deeply feel the pain of childbirth she had endured. Yet, without exception, on her face, I saw a smile as eternal as spring.
She was my mother, my eternal homeland, beautiful pain, radiant sorrow.
As a poem describes: She walked by the Yunshui Lake, leaving behind a petite silhouette for the world. Her unparalleled beauty was a pure dream, detached from the mortal world. When fate brings you together, it comes; when fate takes you apart, it goes. Like her pure and gentle smile, a single glance could make the world grow old. She was like a mother, even more like a wife, like all the women you love throughout your life.

Time flies when you're busy. On the afternoon of New Year's Eve, the sky suddenly changed, dark clouds gathered, and a biting north wind blew. By evening, large snowflakes began to fall.
This was the seventh heavy snowfall since the beginning of winter. Under the streetlights, they danced in the air, chasing each other. Like a traveler's dream from which he could never wake, hazy yet radiant, frivolous yet graceful.
I opened the second-floor corridor window, lit a cigarette, and took a long drag. Then I exhaled a ring of smoke, gazing at it as it rose. But it was quickly blown away by the wind, disappearing without a trace.
This is our life; we try to grasp something, but in the end, we have nothing.
"Jingjing—"
A kind voice sounded behind me. I turned around and saw my mother-in-law walking towards me with a smile. She was wearing a bright red Tang suit, slim-fitting black trousers, and high heels. Her hair was styled in a sexy updo, making her look both festive and elegant, as well as dignified and charming.
"...Mom," I grinned. Taking advantage of her inattention, I quickly threw the cigarette butt out the window.
My mother-in-law patted my back and scolded, "You little rascal, I saw it all along." Then she added, "Just a little bit now and then, don't get addicted."
I scratched my head and nodded, "Mom, nothing escapes your sharp eyes."
"Hmph, of course!" My mother-in-law patted her chest, "I've been in politics for over twenty years, and I've developed a keen eye. You little rascal, if you dare to pull any tricks in the future, you'd better watch out." "
Mom, look at how you describe your son... I'm someone who never pulls any tricks..." I pouted, my eyes darting around before settling on my mother-in-law's firm breasts, my heart pounding. "I'll just hug you from behind and hold you tightly in my arms..." As I spoke, I couldn't help but reach out and wrap my arms around my mother-in-law's slender waist.
"Mom, let me hold you quietly for a moment," I whispered in my mother-in-law's ear. "Son missed you..."
A blush appeared on my mother-in-law's face, fleeting. She smoothed her hair and gently placed her hands on the back of mine.
"It's snowing heavily—" My mother-in-law looked out the window. "A good snow promises a good harvest, this year will be another bumper year!"
I smelled my mother-in-law's hair and asked, "Mom, what are your wishes for the New Year?"
"Mom's wish, of course, is that our whole family is safe and sound, and always healthy and happy!" My mother-in-law finished speaking, raised her chin, and smiled sweetly at me. "And you, what are your wishes?"
"My wish, naturally, is that Mom stays young forever and is always happy," I said, listing my wishes. "That way we'll never be separated, and Yingying and I can always take care of Mom..."
"You silly boy, nothing lasts forever," my mother-in-law poked my forehead. "Your father and Yingying are watching the Spring Festival Gala in the living room, don't keep them waiting, let's go back."
I knew perfectly well that my mother-in-law was afraid that if we hugged for too long, it wouldn't be good if they saw us. So, I let go of her hand, and we walked downstairs together. Just as we reached the corner of the stairs, I suddenly grabbed my mother-in-law's hand, pulled her into my arms, and quickly kissed her.
Then I left her and ran down the stairs.
"Honey, what were you doing up there for so long?" my wife called out sweetly. "Come watch the gala with me and Dad, sit next to me."
I rushed upstairs with a grin, my heart still pounding. That kiss was something I'd been planning for a long time; now that my scheme had succeeded, I was ecstatic.
"Dad—" I called out timidly, sitting down next to my wife. She immediately placed her delicate feet on my lap, grinning mischievously, and said, "Honey, rub them for me, make them warm." Without a word, I pulled my wife's feet into my arms and wrapped them in my coat.
"Warm, isn't it, wife?" I said with a smile.
My wife hummed in agreement, pouting, and said, "Honey, I want a kiss."
Just as she was about to speak, my father-in-law turned and glanced at us, his face hardening as he scolded, "Do you think your dad's invisible? You two lovebirds, go back to your room. Don't get in my way!" He then sipped his tea and continued watching the program intently.
My wife clicked her tongue, then mischievously darted behind my father-in-law, jumped onto his back, blindfolded him, and giggled. Afraid she would fall, he quickly grabbed her back and bent over to prevent her from slipping.
My father-in-law always doted on his wife, showering her with affection. Their deep father-daughter bond was evident.
(182)
My mother-in-law came down the stairs at this moment, seeing the father and daughter playing around, and said irritably, "Yingying, you little devil! Isn't your father tired? Get off him right now!" She glanced at us, then quickly looked away.
"Get down, you little devil, you're such a handful!" My mother-in-law lightly patted my wife's shapely bottom, threateningly. "If you don't get down, I'll whip your bottom with a feather duster."
"Mom, have mercy..." My wife dodged repeatedly. "Husband, save me—" Yinling laughed and pounced on me, hiding behind me.
"Mom, if you whip my bottom until it's swollen, I'll cling to your son-in-law all day long. I'll make him carry me around and feed me, let's see if you feel sorry for your son-in-law then, hmph!" My wife winked mischievously.
My mother-in-law glared at my wife and retorted, "He's your own husband, it's none of my business to pity him, do whatever you want."
Then she glared at me and ordered, "Jingjing, get out of my way, I'm going to whip her bottom until it's bruised!"
I thought to myself: Oh no, I've angered my mother-in-law, I'm in deep trouble now. Just as I was chuckling to myself, caught in a dilemma, my mother made an emergency phone call, rescuing my wife from this predicament.
"Mother-in-law, on this joyous and harmonious Lunar New Year's Eve, Xuan Shi wishes you and father-in-law a Happy New Year in advance
!" My mother spoke eloquently and fluently. "Wishing you and father-in-law a prosperous New Year, good fortune, a loving marriage, many children and grandchildren, family happiness, and all your wishes fulfilled!"
My mother-in-law smiled and bowed loudly, saying, "Mother-in-law, you are so learned and elegant, I admire you greatly! Thank you for being the first to wish Xing Jian and me a Happy New Year! Xing Jian and I also wish you a Happy New Year. May you be blessed with wealth and prosperity, many children, good health, and everlasting happiness!"
"Mother-in-law, thank you! You were also the first to call and wish Xuan Shi a Happy New Year," my mother laughed heartily. "Please tell father-in-law that Xuan Shi and Jiang Hua will visit you on the second day of the Lunar New Year to wish you both a Happy New Year!"
Hearing my mother's words, my heart sank. I thought to myself: What I feared most has come to pass. I have no choice but to bite the bullet and receive Old Man Hao.
"Of course, of course! Xingjian and I will clean the house and welcome our distinguished guests," the mother-in-law said with a smile.
After chatting for a few more minutes, they said goodbye. The wife was about to rush to wish her mother a Happy New Year when her mother-in-law hung up, making her pout.
The father-in-law came out of the bathroom, frowning, and asked, "What did Xuanshi say on the phone? On the third day of the Lunar New Year, she's bringing that old geezer to our house for a New Year's greeting?"
"That's right, that's what she said on the phone," the mother-in-law said thoughtfully. "On New Year's Eve, the children will all be here. Don't call him 'old geezer,' it's not good if someone hears."
"Yes, Dad. My mother-in-law will be heartbroken if she hears this," my wife chimed in.
"It's one thing for her to come, but why bring this thing along? Humph, I don't know what's wrong with her, falling for this thing, making me and Xuanyu lose face. If Xuanyu were still alive, he'd either beat this thing to death or be driven to his death by her!" my father-in-law said indignantly, his face full of displeasure. "Heartbroken? That's your mother-in-law's own fault! For my son-in-law's sake, she's your mother-in-law, but that thing isn't your father-in-law! Bai Ying, you remember this: Zuo Xuanyu is your only father-in-law in this life. You'd better draw a clear line with that thing and keep your distance. Don't go running to your mother-in-law's house all the time after giving birth, or you'll get bad luck!"
My father-in-law's words hit the nail on the head, it was so satisfying! Especially the last sentence, so resounding and powerful. However, this unintentional remark, when heard by my wife, had a double meaning, hitting the nail on the head. She immediately remembered something, her face flushed, and her expression became very unnatural.
"Dad, what are you saying? What's this and that? I don't understand what you're saying,"
the wife muttered. "My mother-in-law called and wants me to go keep her company. As her daughter-in-law, how can I refuse her?
I'm not a three-year-old. I can tell good from bad myself. I don't need you to remind me." "
Look at this girl, she's so energetic, talking to her father like that," the mother-in-law scolded. "Your mother-in-law wants you to keep her company? She has such a good husband like Hao Jianghua with her, when has she ever felt lonely and needed you to keep her company?
You have plenty of time, why don't you spend more time with your parents? Your father and I have doted on you since you were little, treating you like a princess, never letting you suffer even the slightest grievance. I won't go into how your mother treats you. Just look at your father, you're the apple of his eye, he cherishes you like a precious gem, that's not an exaggeration at all. Now that you're grown up and have your own family, you actually say such disrespectful things, doesn't that break our hearts? It's outrageous!" "
Jiahui, what are you saying!" The father-in-law interrupted the mother-in-law. "Why say such things? You need to know when to stop."
"Mom, I didn't mean to disobey Dad, I just think what he said was wrong," the wife's eyes reddened. "Your kindness will be etched in my heart for the rest of my life, I will never forget it." Before she could finish speaking, tears were already streaming down her face, and she was sobbing.
"Alright, girl," my father-in-law said, putting his arm around my wife and tenderly wiping away her tears. "Your parents don't mean any harm. They're just saying all this for your own good. Crying during the New Year is bad luck, so stop crying." He paused, then gave me a wink.
I understood what my father-in-law meant—he wanted me to tease my wife. So, I pretended to be a gorilla, hobbling over to my wife, taking her small, white hand, and saying in a sharp voice, "A beauty sits behind the beaded curtain, her brows furrowed. Tears stream down her face; who knows who she hates! I am the mountain king; who dares to hurt my beauty! I'm taking her to my cave to be my queen..."
My wife couldn't help but smile through her tears, playfully scolding, "You're so naughty, you stinky gorilla! I won't be your queen!"
"If you won't be a monkey's queen, then be mine tonight!" I scooped up my wife and ran towards the stairs, laughing heartily. "Go to bed early and get up early, and tomorrow morning we'll get up first thing to wish Mom and Dad a Happy New Year!"
"Wait a minute, honey." My wife playfully punched me, giggling. "Aren't you staying up all night?"
"Of course I am! Who said I wouldn't!" I rolled my eyes, winked at my mother-in-law, and said meaningfully, "We'll stay up all night in bed too—" Then, "thump thump thump," I ran up the stairs, leaving behind a trail of laughter.

The second day of the Lunar New Year, arrivals at the Capital International Airport, 10:30 PM. A commotion arose, and a stream of people poured out. Among the various men and women, I spotted my mother at a glance.
Her hair was styled in a cloud-like bun, her features delicate, and a sparkling diamond necklace adorned her graceful neck. She had long legs, a slender waist, wide hips, a straight figure, and a firm, upright chest. She wore a well-tailored Chinese-style suit underneath, black thermal stockings with matching high heels, and a dark brown overcoat. A Chanel bag slung over her right arm, while her left arm was linked with Hao Jianghua's, and they walked and talked intimately.
Hao Jianghua was less than 1.68 meters tall, with a sharply defined face and a sallow complexion, almost a head shorter than my mother. He was impeccably dressed in a suit, his steps steady, a golden pipe dangling from his lips, his arm almost pressed against my mother's right breast, rubbing against her.
I thought I had let go of my resentment, but seeing this scene, an inexplicable surge of jealousy rose within me.
"Mom—" I forced a smile, stood on tiptoe, and waved to them.
My mother saw me, her face lighting up with a big smile, and she cheerfully called out "Jingjing," waving a few times.
I rushed over, saying, "Mom, Happy New Year!" and gave her a warm hug after a long separation. Perhaps it was the tinge of jealousy that made me mischievously place my hand on my mother's shapely bottom, give it a light squeeze, and quickly release it.
Stealing a glance at my mother's reaction, I saw she wasn't intimidated at all, a radiant smile still on her face.
"Zuo Jing, Happy New Year! May you have good fortune!" Hao Jianghua, standing beside me, stretched out his arms, wanting to hug me.
"Uncle Hao, Happy New Year!" I turned around, a forced smile on my face, and gave him a reluctant hug.
We retrieved two heavy suitcases from the baggage claim area, one for Hao Jianghua and one for me, loading them into our white Cadillac SUV. I drove, and my mother accompanied Hao Jianghua to the back seat. As soon as we got in the car, I heard her say happily, "Such thick snow! It's a rare sight indeed! I really want to have a snowball fight!" She seemed to have an undiminished childlike spirit.
"Okay, okay, I'll play with you," Hao Jianghua nodded vigorously.
My mother smiled and asked happily, "Jingjing, want to have a snowball fight?"
I shrugged and replied, "Whatever, whatever you like." My mother said, "Great! After visiting my in-laws' house for the New Year, we can have a snowball fight with Yingying and my in-laws in their villa's courtyard." Hao Jianghua asked with a grin how we'd divide into groups, and my mother replied, "Our 'Women's Team' versus your 'Men's Team'.
" "Hehe, wife, I won't hold back then," Hao Jianghua said mischievously.
"Hmph, bring it on, don't hold back," my mother pouted. "Don't let your macho mentality get the better of you; you might get completely thrashed."
That stupid pig Hao Jianghua, if it really came down to it, facing three beautiful wives, who could bring themselves to hurt them? I guess only this stupid pig doesn't understand the meaning of "cherishing women." However, to be fair, I'll definitely target my mother, aiming for her buttocks and breasts to throw snowballs and vent my hatred. My father-in-law is also unhappy with my mother, so I guess he'll target her too. As for whether Hao Jianghua will retaliate in kind and target my wife, I can only turn a blind eye and see as I go.
(184)
As soon as the car arrived at the gate of the courtyard, my mother-in-law and wife came out of the house to greet us, their faces full of smiles.
"Mother and father-in-law, we've been waiting for you two! Please come in quickly—" My mother-in-law took my mother's hand, the two as close as sisters. "Ever since I heard you were coming, I've been looking forward to it day and night. Xuan Shi, I've missed you so much."
"Sister Jia Hui, I've missed you so much too," my mother hugged my mother-in-law. "Jiang Hua and I wish you a Happy New Year! May your career be successful, your career soar to great heights, your youth last forever, and all your wishes come true!"
"We appreciate it, please come inside," my mother-in-law said with a beaming smile.
"Mom, Dad—" My wife bowed gracefully and elegantly. "Your daughter-in-law wishes you both a Happy New Year, good health, good fortune, and a long and happy marriage!"
My mother embraced my wife, saying affectionately, "My dear child, I wish you a long and prosperous life, success in your career, eternal beauty, and everlasting happiness!" Then she took out two thick red envelopes from her bosom and placed them in my wife's and my hands respectively, with the following words: "Jingjing, may you reach even greater heights; Yingying, may you surpass your parents. You two young people, may you be a harmonious couple, loving and devoted to each other, grow old together, and enjoy happiness for a thousand years!"
After exchanging pleasantries, the five of us entered the main hall of the villa with laughter. My father-in-law was sitting on the sofa, chatting and drinking tea with some colleagues. The house was decorated with lanterns and colorful decorations, and Spring Festival couplets were pasted on the door frames and pillars, creating a festive atmosphere. Two maids were busy preparing lunch, and the aroma of dumplings and meat wafted from the kitchen, steaming hot. Stepping into the room, one immediately feels the strong festive atmosphere.
Upon seeing my mother and father-in-law, my father-in-law stood up and greeted them, "You're here, mother-in-law—Happy New Year!" before setting aside and ignoring them. The other guests, upon seeing my mother, were immediately captivated by her stunning beauty and rose to offer their New Year's greetings.
My mother, beaming, shook hands with each of them, offering a few auspicious words. Then, turning to my father-in-law, she said sweetly, "Brother Xingjian, your sister wishes you a Happy New Year! May your future be bright, your career smooth, all your wishes fulfilled, and everything go well for you!" With that, she extended her slender, delicate hand.
The father-in-law couldn't refuse, so he grasped his mother's hand and said politely, "Thank you for coming to wish me a Happy New Year, I'm deeply grateful! A new year brings new beginnings, and everything is renewed. I also wish you a better appearance and a more youthful and beautiful life!"
Hao Jianghua seized the opportunity to flatter him, saying with a fawning smile, "Brother Xingjian, how have we been? I wish you a Happy New Year, and I hope your career is successful, you are wealthy and prosperous, and you live a vibrant and fulfilling life!" "
Not at all, you flatter me, brother!" the father-in-law feigned enthusiasm. "I heard you're about to be appointed as deputy county head, congratulations! On this New Year's occasion, I also wish you a smooth career and soaring success—"
The father-in-law was a few months older than Hao Jianghua, hence the address "brother." Unexpectedly, the news of his impending appointment as deputy county head spread like wildfire, reaching even the ears of his father-in-law, who lived thousands of miles away.
"Just a lowly ninth-rank official, nothing compared to you, brother!" Hao Jianghua was flattered and grasped his father-in-law's hand. "I am but a humble servant, and I hope you will take good care of me and guide me in the future. I have heard that you are a refined and learned man, with a passion for collecting calligraphy, paintings, and antique porcelain. My wife and I have inquired around and asked friends to find a pair of Tang Dynasty tri-colored jade bowls, a genuine work by Zheng Banqiao from the Qing Dynasty, and a mutton-fat jade vase. I am
presenting them to you with special regard, and I hope you will not find them too valuable." Anyone with a little historical knowledge would know that the three items Hao Jianghua mentioned were all extremely valuable. His generosity left everyone present speechless, almost unable to believe it. The father-in-law gasped, thinking, "Good heavens, the treasures I've been longing for have been granted to me by you." His previously tense face gradually softened.
Hesitating for a moment, I grasped Hao Jianghua's hand and said with a smile, "You two are so kind-hearted. If I didn't accept this generous gift, wouldn't that be a shame! We should visit each other often.
" No one is perfect. Hao Jianghua seized upon his father-in-law's passion for collecting antiques and paintings, quickly thawing their strained relationship. He not only completely changed his father-in-law's attitude towards me but also paved the way for future favors—a double win.
"That old man Hao is indeed cunning. If he were to read a few books, wouldn't he be causing chaos and uproar?"
I thought to myself. "However, given his greedy and lustful appearance, why would he suddenly give such a generous gift? There must be a mastermind behind it all..." I glanced at my smiling mother, and a flash of insight struck me. "This mastermind is most likely my mother."
"The food is ready. Father-in-law, mother-in-law, and all distinguished guests, please take your seats," my mother-in-law announced loudly.
"Let's eat and chat, make ourselves at home, don't be shy."
"Brother Jianghua, please have a seat—" My father-in-law invited with a cupped hand. "Sister Xuanshi, don't be shy either."
(185)
Leaving aside the rest of the story, let's just say that as the lamps were lit, my mother and the others said goodbye to my father-in-law and returned to my and my wife's love nest. As soon as I entered the house, I rushed into the bathroom, pulled off my belt, and started to pee.
"Damn, I was going to burst—" I shook my penis and pulled up my pants.
When I came out, I saw my mother holding Xiangxiang, gently coaxing him, pacing back and forth. Hao Jianghua was holding Jingjing, sitting on the sofa, his face reeking of alcohol. My wife brewed two cups of Da Hong Pao tea, smilingly placed them on the coffee table, and said, "Dad, Mom, please have some tea," before taking Xiangxiang from Hao Jianghua's arms.
"What kind of tea is this?" Hao Jianghua picked up the teacup and blew on it.
"Da Hong Pao tea, my mother brought it from home." His wife smoothed the back of her coat and sat down beside him. "They said it's the finest tea, meant for the two of us, but neither Zuo Jing nor I like tea. Dad likes tea, and I was planning to bring it to him personally. But since you and Mom are here, we can just bring it home as a small token of our respect."
The night before last, his father-in-law had lectured his wife, solemnly telling her that Zuo Xuanyu was her only father-in-law.
Unexpectedly, his wife ignored him completely. She even went so far as to drop the surname and directly call him "Dad." Her gentle, soft-spoken manner made it seem as if Hao Jianghua was her real father. It made me so jealous and resentful, thinking to myself: Who said I don't like tea? To please Old Man Hao, you're so obsequious and siding with the outsider!
"Hehe, my wife's hospitality is too much to refuse, so Dad will accept it without hesitation," Hao Jianghua grinned. "During this trip to Beijing, your mother and I brought gifts for you... and Jingjing too." He then left the sofa, taking a property deed and a set of shiny keys from his suitcase. "
A close friend of mine in Changsha, who works in real estate development, gave me a country villa at the end of the year, which your mother and I both love. These past few years, the smog in Beijing has been getting worse, seriously affecting health, especially for children. So, your mother and I figured we'd buy another one for you two as a belated wedding gift."
Hao Jianghua said, pressing the property deed and keys into his wife's hands. "We hope you two have a happy and fulfilling marriage, growing old together!"
He either doesn't give gifts at all, or he gives away a country villa—it almost made my nose bleed! Coupled with Hao Jianghua's heartfelt words, showing his genuine concern for my wife and me, for a moment, I even forgot about "stealing my mother's affections" and instead felt a pang of shame.
"He treated me with such sincerity, yet I spoke ill of him behind his back and even threatened him. I was truly judging a gentleman by my own petty standards. I am ashamed," I thought to myself.
Actually, the reason I thought this way at the time was because Hao Jianghua was such a good actor, he had blinded me. Later, I finally understood that the reason he gave me the villa was simply for my wife. If my wife lived closer to him, it would be more convenient for them to meet secretly. This was also my mother's idea: firstly, it would lull me into a false sense of security; secondly, the proximity would allow them to "come at night and leave at dawn," making their meetings more convenient; and thirdly, since my wife was already Hao Jianghua's woman, giving her a villa would make her even more loyal.
"Dad—" My wife's eyes were a little moist as she tried her best to refuse. "How can we, as his wife and I, accept such an expensive gift from you and Mom…"
Hao Jianghua held my wife's small hand and said earnestly, "Please don't refuse our small token of appreciation.
We are family, there should be no distinction between us. If you refuse, it will make us feel like outsiders."
My mother smiled and said, "Take it, Yingying. Don't let your father and I down. Speaking of which, Beijing's air pollution is getting worse and worse. For the healthy growth of our two grandchildren, your father and I really hope you two can move to Changsha. Besides, Changsha is Jingjing's hometown; there's a strong sense of belonging there. Furthermore, moving to Changsha would make it closer for our two families to visit each other. It's a win-win-win situation, so you and Jingjing shouldn't refuse."
My mother's words were reasonable and touched my heart. Actually, with the birth of my two children, I couldn't bear to see them grow up breathing in smog, and I had long considered moving. It's just that I've been busy considering livable cities and haven't had time to tell my wife yet. After all, a job can be found again; the health of the family is the most important thing.
"Take it, wife..." I coughed lightly. "Mom's right, Beijing's air pollution is severe, it's not suitable for children to grow up in, we'll have to move sooner or later."
My wife glanced at me, nodded, and said sweetly, "Since my husband has made the decision, then I'll accept it on his behalf, thank you for your love, Mom and Dad—"
"What are you thanking me for? Even if Mom and Dad don't love you, they still love our two grandsons," Hao Jianghua stroked his wife's hair.
"Come here, our little darling, let Grandpa hold you for a bit." After saying that, he reached out and hugged his wife's chest, taking the child from her arms.
This small action, seemingly unintentional, was actually deliberate. In the past, it would have made me furious, but now I was unmoved. It truly proves the old saying, "He who eats another's food is bound to him, he who takes another's money is bound to him!"
(186)
"Right, I'm getting confused when I talk about things," my wife slapped her forehead. "Mom and Dad, you two must be tired after a long day. Take a shower and go to bed." She got up and walked towards the bedroom, turning back to say, "I'll get you clean towels, bath towels, robes, and toothbrushes. Honey, go to Mom and Dad's room and turn on the water heater in the bathroom. Also, rinse the bathtub first, then fill it with water. Test the water temperature; it shouldn't be too hot or too cold. Around 45 degrees Celsius is ideal. Use a thermometer to check."
Holy crap! It seems my wife and I have become Hao Jianghua's maids, serving him and his mother during a bath together. But, what can we do? We're the hosts, and Hao Jianghua is the guest. Besides, we just received such a grand gesture from him; how can we turn our backs on him now!
"Mama it is, let him enjoy this once, but don't let it happen again—" I thought to myself, and strode into the second bedroom. "What a strange thing. I actually have to serve Hao Jianghua and my mother a bath together. If my father knew his son was so unfilial, wouldn't he be heartbroken? Luckily, my father passed away early, or I would be unforgivable."
After preparing the bathwater, I came out of the bathroom and called to my mother, "Mom, the water's ready. You and..." Then I thought it didn't quite fit, so I swallowed the "Uncle Hao, take a bath" part and changed it to "Who goes first, you or Uncle Hao?
" "Let Uncle Hao go first," my mother said loudly. "Old Hao, Jingjing has prepared your bathwater. Leave the child to me, you go in and bathe first."
Hao Jianghua handed the child to his mother, said, "Good boy, listen to Grandma," and walked towards the second bedroom with a smile.
"Dad, I'll put your and Mom's towels and bath towels on the counter, and your bathrobes on the bed in the bedroom," his wife instructed Hao Jianghua. "You and Mom take a shower first, then have some fruit. I'll tidy up your beds." She then smoothed her hair, quickly walked out of the second bedroom, and closed the door.
I took Jingjing from my mother's arms and intentionally rubbed the back of my hand against her full breasts, mimicking Hao Jianghua's actions, a kind of "an eye for an eye." Originally, this wouldn't have been a problem; my mother wasn't intimidated. Unexpectedly, lust took hold, and evil thoughts arose within me. Then, while my mother was playing with Jingjing, I actually rubbed her chest with my elbow.
Perhaps due to nervousness, the movement was too obvious. The supposedly gentle "rub" unexpectedly turned into an "elbow strike." Like hitting a soft sponge, my elbow immediately felt a small, resilient elasticity.
In this way, even if my mother wanted to cover it up, she couldn't pretend nothing was wrong. I was dumbfounded, my head hanging low, my heart pounding. There's a saying, "If you don't court death, you won't die," I sighed inwardly, bracing myself for a scolding.
"Jingjing..." my mother called, her voice laced with authority.
Reluctantly, I looked up at her, my heart pounding with anxiety. Her face was flushed, her lips slightly upturned, her bright, clear eyes filled with a mixture of reproach and anger.
I shuddered, stammering, "Mom... just now... I wasn't careful... please don't be angry..."
"Don't blame yourself—" my mother turned her head, hesitant to speak. "...Mom understands, I didn't mean to blame you.
It's just... you're married with children, yet you're still so clumsy. Luckily they didn't see us, otherwise they'd think we were doing something improper, something unclean." She smoothed her hair, glanced back at me, and softly asked, "Are you severely Oedipus?"
I was speechless for a moment, my face flushed, and after a long pause, I managed to utter a "What?", feigning ignorance. It was completely unexpected and absurd for my mother to ask such a question. An Oedipus complex shouldn't be a topic for casual discussion between mother and son; given my mother's consistently kind nature, this question was far too abrupt. Also, the way my mother looked at me seemed strange. Of course,
it wasn't until I read my mother's private diary that I fully understood the deeper meaning in her eyes. In fact, under Hao Jianghua's tutelage, my mother had already undergone a complete transformation. At this point, she had completely abandoned any sense of shame and didn't care about having anything happen between us. The only thing my mother wasn't sure about was whether I was willing. The reason she asked how serious the Oedipus complex was was simply to test my feelings. If I had confessed to her back then, my mother would definitely have acted on it and helped me fulfill my wish.
"Never mind if you don't want to talk about it..." Seeing me hesitate for a long time, my mother blushed and turned her back.
My wife finished relieving herself and returned to the living room, saying to my mother, "Mom, let me hold Xiangxiang, you should rest."
"No need, I'm not tired," my mother smiled gently. "Do you have any pickled plums at home? I'm really craving some right now."
"Hehe, sour for a boy, spicy for a girl," my wife pointed to my mother's belly. "Mom, this time you're definitely having a baby boy."
I was a little confused, staring blankly at my mother's belly, scratching my head and saying, "Wife, what are you saying? I don't understand."

My wife chuckled, pouting, and said, "You don't know yet? Mom is already pregnant."
At this, I opened my mouth wide in astonishment, my eyes fixed on my mother's flat stomach.
"No way, you're pregnant again so soon?" I asked, still doubtful.
"The hospital confirmed it, I just got pregnant not long ago," my mother said with a smile, rubbing her belly. "Do you have any pickled plums, Yingying?"
"I'm sorry, Mom, I forgot to buy them." My wife's lips curled into a slightly apologetic smile, then she instructed me, "Honey, go to the supermarket and buy some fresh pickled plums, apple cider vinegar, cherries, walnuts, and other similar items.
Hurry back, Mom's waiting to eat them."
I agreed without thinking much, and dashed out the door, running down the stairs.
"Damn it, what kind of efficiency is this? One child a year? She's like a birthing machine," I grumbled all the way down. "My mother-in-law wasn't wrong at all. In Old Man Hao's eyes, my mom is his personal birthing machine."
About a hundred meters to the left of the main gate of the residential complex, there's a large supermarket, about a ten-minute walk away. After buying what I needed, I was about to leave when my wife called. She told me to buy some more vegetables and meat so we could cook a big meal tomorrow. So, I stored my things and went back into the supermarket. Not long after, my wife called again, asking me to buy more fresh fruit. I asked her why I was buying so much when we already had some at home. She hesitated for a moment, then slowly said that since it was already bought, it wouldn't spoil in the refrigerator. After a slight pause, she added that I should also buy some baby sanitary napkins, the Always brand.
This whole ordeal took about an hour. When I got home, I was panting heavily and drank two glasses of water.
Hao Jianghua had already showered and was sitting on the living room sofa, wearing a silk wool bathrobe, drinking tea and watching TV.
My wife was making the bed in the second bedroom; she was kneeling, supporting herself with one hand and smoothing the sheets with the other, constantly shifting her position. The sound of running water came from the bathroom; my mother must be taking a shower.
I wiped my mouth, quietly approached my wife, and hugged her from behind, startling her.
"Stop it—" my wife scolded me playfully, giggling. "You're all sweaty, go wash up."
"Okay, let's shower together," I said, lightly sniffing my wife's ear. "How about a bath together?"
My wife smoothed her hair, saying shyly, "No, Mom and Dad are here."
"That's what makes it more romantic," I said, nibbling on my wife's ear. "Why are there water stains on your hair…"
"...Are there?" My wife flinched, asking suspiciously. Then she casually touched her hair, looking at it.
"No, where are the water stains…"
"It feels a little damp, like it just got wet," I said, ruffling my wife's hair.
My wife said irritably, "Hmph, it's your hands that are wet—how long are you going to hug me like that? Let go, I have so many things to do." With that, she gently pushed me away and climbed off the bed.
"I'll wash the plums, cut some fruit, and bring it to Mom and Dad," my wife said, glancing back at me and giving me a flirtatious look. "Honey, go take a shower first, be good, okay?"
I blew her a kiss and followed her out. I watched her go into the kitchen before going into the master bedroom and closing the door. After filling the tub with water, I quickly undressed and sat in the bathtub, comfortably closing my eyes... I
could faintly hear my mother and wife's laughter from the living room, but I couldn't quite make it out. There was also Hao Jianghua's clamor, his incessant chatter...
Half an hour later, I finished my shower, put on my bathrobe, and went to the living room. I saw Hao Jianghua sitting on the sofa, arms outstretched, legs crossed. To his left was my mother, wearing a purple bathrobe, a comb tucked into her hair.
To her right was my wife, her coat off, revealing a white wool turtleneck, her tight jeans making her legs look even longer. The three of them were watching TV and eating fruit, chatting animatedly, exchanging knowing smiles from time to time.
"Honey, you're done showering," my wife beckoned. "Come and have some fruit."
I grinned, sat down to my wife's left, and casually wrapped my arms around her slender waist. Hao Jianghua nodded at me, put his legs down, and leaned back on the sofa.
"Where are the kids?" I picked up a cherry and popped it into my mouth.
"The kids are asleep," my wife replied, clapping her hands. "Honey, I'm going to take a shower. You stay with Mom and Dad for a bit."
Then she got up, swaying her hips, and walked towards the master bedroom.
"Xuan Shi, let's go to bed early," Hao Jianghua blurted out.
His mother nodded and took his hand...
