1] Chapter 1

Evening.

A light drizzle fell from the sky, weaving a damp curtain of light around the streetlights.

Cheng Zongyang walked silently down the street, his mood gloomy.

A black cat appeared at the street corner. Its brownish-yellow eyes stared at him, then slowly crossed the street. Its black tail flicked slightly, revealing traces of rain.

Cheng Zongyang sat in the car, sighed, and said, "Driving a car like this, and still dreaming of time travel."

"Haha, the ideal life is always elsewhere!" Duan Qiang said. "I wish I could travel back in time and be an orphan, so I wouldn't be so bored all the time. Let's go!"

"Hey, you haven't booked your ticket yet."

"Are you kidding? Do I need to book my own ticket?"

Three hours later, Cheng Zongyang and Duan Qiang were already on a flight to Shanghai. Besides luggage, Duan Qiang also brought a huge travel bag containing a tent, sleeping bag, insect repellent, medicine, a solar charger, personal tools, and even books and a diving suit.

"With such a basic skill set, you can't even manufacture a single bullet. Machine guns are even more useless; once the bullets are used up, they're no better than firewood. And as for historical timelines—if you can change history by time travel, what's the point of a historical timeline? If you can't change history, why bother time traveling at all? Besides, what if you time travel to a different world unrelated to our history? Are you going to bring history textbooks there to teach mythology?"

Duan Qiang scratched his head. "So what would you bring if you time traveled to the past? Only three things."

Cheng Zongyang quickly turned his head and saw Duan Qiang's surprised look. Then, the lightning bolt pierced his right temple like a needle, making a soft "hissing" sound.

The plane finally avoided the thundercloud and safely entered its designated flight path. Power was restored, all the lights came back on, and all the passengers breathed a sigh of relief.

"Huh? Where are those two young men?"

Someone suddenly noticed that the two seats by the window were empty, and the two young men on them seemed to have vanished into thin air without leaving any trace.
