Chapter 1

Today is Chen Can's birthday. Chen Cui personally prepared a sumptuous candlelight dinner for her, and even took out
a diamond ring he had prepared for a long time, kneeling before Chen Can to propose.

Looking at Chen Cui's sincere face, Chen Can laughed almost maniacally. Haha, he really is her dearest brother!
Is Chen Cui trying to drive her crazy?

Since that incident, Chen Cui had never seen Chen Can laugh heartily at him again; today
was the first time.

Chen Cui was somewhat excited, even losing his balance and almost falling when he stood up. But none
of that mattered; his eyes were only on Chen Can, the little sister he had loved since childhood.

Chen Cui happily assumed that Chen Can, like him, was looking forward to their future.

Then, Chen Can watched Chen Cui, beaming with confidence, tell her that he
had a female friend who was a lesbian and could have a fake marriage with her, and a reliable male friend who was gay and could
also have a fake marriage with her. They had even bought two apartments in the same complex, one above the other, so their secret
would never be known, and they could be together forever.

Chen Can watched Chen Cui animatedly sketching out their future, a wave of mockery washing over her. She
knew ; for so many years, he had always made decisions for her, never caring about her feelings.

Now, all that was left was for Chen Can to agree. Looking at Chen Cui, she felt a wave of nausea, even more nauseous than when
they had slept together.

That night, Chen Cui, unusually, didn't touch her. Instead, he went to his last
bachelor party, a party his friends had prepared for him. It seemed he wouldn't be coming back that night.

Chen Can lay on the cold bed. It was already three in the morning, and she still couldn't sleep. Her eyes were blank as
she stared at the ceiling, her mind filled with the unbearable memories of her past with Chen Cui.

Chen Can had fantasized countless times about her wedding, but she never imagined that the groom would be her own
brother. She didn't know how to face her parents, how to face herself, and how to violate
morality and ethics by marrying her own brother after making such a mistake.

Suddenly, a voice that had been dormant in her mind for a long time said to her, "Chen Can, why don't you just die?"

Yes, why not just die? After dying, she wouldn't have to face Chen Cui in pain, wouldn't have to live in
this dirty reality.

How wonderful it would be to die.

Thinking of this, the guilt that had been suppressed in Chen Can's heart for many years surged forth, becoming the last
straw .

She sat up in bed, her eyes vacant and devoid of color. Her body seemed to be out of control, slowly
walking to the bathroom, turning on the faucet, and filling the bathtub with water.

She grabbed a fruit knife from the living room table and returned to the bathroom.

After preparing everything, she slowly dipped her feet into the bathtub, then submerged herself completely
.

The water was bone-chillingly cold, causing her to shiver, but this didn't sober her up;
instead, it excited every cell in her body.

Everything proceeded smoothly. Chen Can picked up the fruit knife, watching it reflect its sharp gleam under the bright
light , even feeling a sense of urgency.

Just as she was about to make the cut, the images of her parents and the person she
cherished .

If she died, they would be heartbroken, wouldn't they? Chen Can couldn't bear to imagine her parents' unbearable grief upon learning of her
death .

This thought only lingered in Chen Can's mind for a moment before vanishing. She knew that if she didn't die,
the sordid affair between her and Chen Cui would eventually be exposed, and at that time, they would
suffer .

She gave a self-deprecating laugh, unsure of what she was still struggling with. Chen Cui would never let her go; she
could only let herself go.

Better to be free now than suffer

later. Having made up her mind, Chen Can gripped the fruit knife without hesitation. With a slight effort, the blade pierced her
delicate skin.

The bathroom was so quiet you could almost hear the sound of blood being sliced. Beads of bright red blood seeped from Chen Can's
pale skin, then gathered together, dripping down her wrist
onto the pale floor, splashing up tiny sprays of blood.

Feeling the pain in her wrist, Chen Can placed her hand in the bathtub.

The water in the tub turned red visibly, the smell of rust filling the bathroom. Chen Can's
face quickly lost its color, even her lips began to pale. She could feel her blood draining away
.

Finally, she could be free.

Chen Can slowly closed her eyes, her consciousness gradually fading, but her brain uncontrollably began to recall
every detail of her and Chen Cui's lives, memories flooding back like a burst dam.

Chen Cui was two years older than Chen Can…

Their mother had congenital heart disease, and during Chen Cui's birth, she suffered a difficult labor and severe bleeding, nearly
losing her life. Her body was completely unsuitable for future pregnancies, so Chen Can shouldn't have been born. However, their
mother unexpectedly became pregnant with her second child and couldn't bear to abort, resulting in Chen Can's birth.

For their mother, Chen Can was a child she had brought into the world after enduring immense pressure and hardship,
so doted on this daughter immensely, granting her every wish.

Their usually short-tempered father also became gentler after Chen Can's birth, often staying close to her during
her childhood, afraid she would suffer even the slightest hardship.

But young Chen Cui, on the other hand, was indifferent to this unexpectedly arrived younger sister. She often left
Chen Can alone at home when their parents weren't around, sneaking out to play by herself.

Young Chen Can was very attached to his older brother, Chen Cui, often following him around, watching him
play with other children, and then they would go home together after dark.

One time, as the two were about to go home, Chen Can bent down to tie his shoelaces, and when he looked up, Chen Cui
was nowhere to be .

Unable to find his way home, Chen Can walked and cried on the street, but it was completely dark by then.
He did get home. It wasn't until the police saw him that he was able to get home safely.

His family was frantic with worry; his mother nearly had a heart attack, and his father was anxiously
smoking in the living room. Seeing that he was alright, his father flew into a rage and slapped Chen Cui across the face
. He then unbuckled his belt, ready to beat him.

This terrified Chen Can; she burst into tears. Despite her fear, she ran over
and shielded Chen Cui with her small body, preventing her father from hitting him further.
After her father pulled her away, she ran back, refusing to let him hit Chen Cui again.

Thus, Chen Cui escaped a beating. But there was no dinner that day.

Chen Can, thinking of her hungry brother, secretly
ran into presented Chen Cui with a meat bun she had been carrying, urging him to eat it while it was hot.

Chen Cui looked at her younger sister holding the meat bun, and tears streamed down her face. She repeatedly said
sorry and promised it would never happen again.

Chen Can was filled with confusion. Her brother hadn't uttered a sound when he was being beaten, so why was he
crying over a meat bun? It seemed she couldn't hoard all the snacks anymore; she had to leave some for her brother so
he wouldn't cry.

From then on, Chen Cui rarely went out to play, spending more time at home with Chen Can, building blocks and playing with Barbie
dolls. Even when they went out, he would take good care of her and never let her out of his sight.

Over time, the neighbors all said that Chen Can had a good brother who never argued with her or made her cry, and who
always thought of his sister when he had something good.

And Chen Can, as a child, truly loved Chen Cui. So much so that when relatives jokingly asked her who she wanted to
marry when she grew up, she would resolutely say she wanted to marry her brother, making everyone burst into laughter.

Later, when Chen Can started elementary school, she was timid and didn't like talking to her classmates. The boy behind her was
particularly annoying, and pranks like pulling her hair, kicking her chair, and throwing erasers at her became commonplace.

Chen Can's silence and refusal to fight back emboldened the boy, who once even set her hair on fire with
a lighter . Finally, Chen Can couldn't take it anymore and ran to her older brother, Chen Cui, crying.

When Chen Cui found out, he beat the boy severely, and continued to beat him every time he saw him, leaving him
bruised and battered.

The teacher eventually found out and spoke to Chen Can's parents. No matter how her parents pleaded,
or even if the school threatened to expel Chen Cui, it didn't change her behavior; she continued to physically abuse the boy.

It wasn't until the boy couldn't take it anymore and asked his parents to transfer him to another school that the matter ended.

From then on, Chen Can always felt it was wonderful to have an older brother like Chen Cui. He always shared his snacks with her, they
went to school together, and sometimes Chen Cui would even do her homework for her when she didn't want to.

Time flew by, and before long, Chen Cui was in high school. She could no longer go to and from
school with Chen Can, and Chen Can had to do his homework alone. Moreover, Chen Cui had more homework than Chen Can, often
studying in his room, and rarely had time to spend with him as usual.

During that time, Chen Can wished she could grow up quickly so she could catch up with her brother and
spend all day together like before. She secretly resolved to attend the same high school as her brother.

However, Chen Cui had always been an excellent student, consistently ranking among the top in her grade, and her parents never had to
worry . With a little effort, she was admitted to the city's top high school.

But for the mischievous Chen Can, this was not an easy task. She could
easily attend an ordinary high school with her grades, but to be in the same school as Chen Cui, she would have to put in considerable effort.

So, during that period, Chen Can would sneak into her room after school to study, even on
weekends , which surprised her parents, but also made them quite happy.

Time flies, and two years passed in the blink of an eye. After the annual high school entrance exam, Chen Can
successfully entered the same high school as Chen Cui.

Upon hearing the news, her parents took her to the mall and bought her the little dress she had wanted for so long. Chen Can
was overjoyed; for days afterward, she even slept with it in her arms.

The summer after the exam was very relaxing for Chen Can. Without the burden of homework, she spent her days
playing wildly , often not returning home until after dark.

Until one day, when she returned home, she found the atmosphere somewhat heavy. Her mother sat on the sofa, her brow furrowed,
saying nothing . Her father was smoking beside her, with cigarette butts and ash scattered on the floor.

Chen Can's heart tightened. Looking closer, she saw Chen Cui kneeling in the living room.

After carefully inquiring, Chen Can learned what had happened.

Chen Cui, about to enter her senior year of high school, had become increasingly rebellious, frequently hanging out with delinquent teenagers near the school;
smoking, drinking, and fighting were commonplace.

Even more seriously, after a conflict with a classmate, he gathered a group of people after school and beat the
classmate who had provoked him so badly that he broke several of his ribs. Fortunately, a kind person saw this and called an ambulance, taking the classmate
to the hospital; otherwise, the consequences could have been unimaginable.

Chen Can looked at Chen Cui with mixed feelings. In the past two years, he had grown taller rapidly, and his face had become exceptionally handsome.
However, his personality had also become taciturn. Sometimes even his family couldn't figure out what he was thinking. He
no longer took the initiative to tell Chen Can about himself, let alone spend time with her.

She had a vague feeling that
the brother seemed to have disappeared, replaced by a gloomy and somewhat frightening person.

After finishing the last cigarette in the pack, her father slammed the lighter on the coffee table.

The sudden sound broke the silence. Chen Cui raised her head, her face calm, but her eyes were full of
resentment .

Chen Can then noticed a clear handprint on Chen Cui's face, the five red fingers
standing out starkly against her pale skin.

"Do you know you were wrong?" Her father asked, his brows furrowed deeply.

Chen Cui remained kneeling, silent, her slender figure appearing even more defiant.

Before Chen Can could react, her father slapped her again, this time with a thud.
With a thud, he crashed into the coffee table beside him.

Chen Can's eyes instantly reddened, and she rushed forward to protect Chen Cui, repeatedly trying to persuade her father.

At the same time, her mother, sitting nearby, used all her strength to hold him tightly, refusing to let him take another
step forward. However, her already frail body was no match for her father, and he angrily flung her away , causing
her to fall to the ground as well. Still angry, her father seized the opportunity and kicked Chen Cui's exposed arm. Chen Can's eyes were red from crying. She heard a cracking sound, and then Chen Cui's body slumped to the ground, his left hand supporting his right arm, his face contorted, cold sweat dripping from his forehead. Seeing Chen Cui in such extreme pain, Chen Can panicked. She knelt on the ground, her forehead already beaded with sweat from fear. In her panic, she almost incoherently lifted Chen Cui from the ground, crying out "Brother!" The mother, stunned by the scene, stumbled towards the bedroom, grabbed her phone, and dialed 120. Chen Can, supporting Chen Cui's hand, suddenly felt something wet. She instinctively looked up and saw a sea of bright red blood. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably, her hands trembling slightly with fear. She gently brushed aside Chen Cui's hair; blood was seeping from some gruesome wounds, soaking Chen Cui's clothes along her ears. Chen Can's mind went blank, the world spinning. Chapter Two When Chen Can's memory returned, she was already in the hospital. Her parents sat beside her, their faces filled with regret. Fortunately, Chen Cui had only suffered superficial injuries and hadn't damaged her brain, but her right arm was fractured and would require careful recovery. Hearing the doctor's words, the family finally felt a huge weight lifted from their shoulders. Chen Cui was quickly taken home, remaining as taciturn as ever. Aside from the necessary daily interactions with his family , he didn't utter a single word. Even his father, deeply aware of the hurt his actions had caused his son, began to speak more at the dinner table, mostly trying to appease Chen Cui, but receiving little response . Unlike before, Chen Cui's right arm was fractured, making many daily activities impossible for him. Sensing this, Chen Can took on the responsibility of caring for Chen Cui. During Chen Cui's injury, Chen Can refused all invitations from friends and began a routine of waking up at . When Chen Cui woke up, Chen Can would already have toothpaste ready in the bathroom and a towel within easy reach. During the day, she stayed close to Chen Cui, carefully protecting his arm, afraid of any bumps or bruises. At night, she would prepare the blankets in advance so Chen Cui could sleep comfortably. All of this felt to Chen Can as if Chen Cui had always been by her side when they were children, never leaving her side. But after a few days of this tireless effort, Chen Cui began to grow impatient. Finally, one morning, seeing the toothpaste already squeezed out and knowing without a doubt that Chen Can was watching him, he slammed his toothbrush into the sink and roared, "Can you stop treating me like I'm disabled? I don't need your pity!" Hearing this, Chen Can's smile froze on her face, and then she burst into tears. She had never been treated so harshly before; she felt like the most wronged person in the world, her good intentions unappreciated and misunderstood. Feeling incredibly humiliated, Chen Can rubbed her eyes and ran crying back to her room, leaving Chen Cui standing there, stunned. A few days later, Chen Can's bad mood had mostly disappeared—after all, he was her brother. So, she secretly began researching the daily lives of people with arm disabilities online. To gain a deeper understanding, she even tied her right arm behind her back with a rope and clumsily tried to learn how to perform daily activities. While Chen Can was diligently working on this, Chen Cui observed everything she did. Her eyes , and she secretly regretted her rash actions a few days earlier, but didn't know how to express it. In the following days, the atmosphere at home became more harmonious. Chen Cui would occasionally watch TV with her family in the living room after dinner, and everything seemed to be developing in a positive direction. July's heat quickly passed, and it was time for the autumn semester to begin. Chen Cui's arm still wasn't fully healed, so she stayed home to rest after asking for leave from school. Chen Can, on the other hand, excitedly held her acceptance letter, eager to rush to her new school. Before leaving home, Chen Can glanced at Chen Cui, who was watching her from the living room, winked playfully, and said sweetly, "Brother, I'll wait for you to go to school with me!" Chen Cui was stunned for a moment, then a slight smile appeared on his lips, his eyes filled with tenderness. After leaving home, Chen Can walked happily to school, her mind filled with the excitement of entering her new school, completely unaware that the traffic light across the street had turned red. A car sped towards her, the driver honking his horn sharply, the piercing sound pulling her from her reverie. She watched the car approach, her heart pounding, but her legs seemed to freeze, as if filled with lead, unable to move an inch. In a split second, a figure appeared behind Chen Can, forcefully pulling her away from the road. However, due to the force, both of them fell to the ground. Chen Can sat on the ground, panting heavily, unable to believe that she had narrowly escaped . When she came to her senses, she saw a tall, slender young man not far from her, rubbing his wrist. As if sensing Chen Can's gaze, the young man looked up. Bathed in sunlight, his dark brown, tousled hair casually fell across his forehead. He had a pair of harmless , deep-set eyes, a high-bridged nose, thin, smiling lips, and captivating dimples… Chen Can was slightly taken aback; in a daze, she felt the sunlight was somewhat dazzling.

"Are you alright?" The boy's clear voice rang out as he stood up to help Chen Can up.

"Ah, I...I..." Chen Can's face turned bright red, and she stammered, unable to utter a complete sentence.

When they both stood up, Chen Can realized that she could only see the boy's chest when she looked directly at
him; she had to look up to meet his gaze. How could he be so tall? He was even taller than her brother.

"Watch out for red lights next time, I'm going to be late for school, so I'll be going now,"
the , turning and crossing the street.

Chen Can didn't have time to thank him; she could only watch his departing figure, silently memorizing his image
, especially his eyes that curved into crescent moons when he smiled.

However, after hearing the word "late," she suddenly slapped her forehead. How could she
have forgotten something so important?

Chen Can picked up her schoolbag, which had fallen to the side, and sprinted towards school like a hundred-meter dash.

"Phew... I'm so tired." Chen Can was panting heavily, her face flushed, and she wiped the fine
sweat from her forehead. Looking at the vast campus before her, she was relieved that she had finally made it.

Unfortunately, just as she found the teaching building among several buildings, the melodious school bell
rang out in the campus.

Oh no! Chen Can rushed towards the teaching building, taking two steps at a time.

When she found her class, Grade 11 (Class 1), the classroom was already full, everyone attentively
listening to their homeroom teacher.

After hesitating for a few minutes, Chen Can walked to the classroom door and timidly called out, "Report!"

The abrupt sound outside the classroom drew everyone's attention to Chen Can.

Chen Can felt countless eyes staring at her, making her extremely uncomfortable. She involuntarily
lowered her head , her small hands tightly gripping the hem of her clothes.

"You must be Chen Can? You're the only one in our class who hasn't registered yet," the homeroom teacher said leisurely from the podium
.

Chen Can looked up at the owner of the voice, a woman who appeared to be around forty-five or forty-six years old, short and plump,
with curly hair of indeterminate style, and dressed in clothes that were anything but fashionable—the image of an ordinary middle-aged
woman . Only her eyes, hidden behind thin glasses, were particularly bright, scrutinizing
her with a sharp gaze.

"I'm sorry, teacher, I'm late." Chen Can felt a little uneasy under that stare. Her junior high school
consistently in the city, and the teachers were notoriously strict, with high expectations for their students and no tolerance for
even the slightest imperfection. Now that she was late on the first day of school, she didn't know how to face her teacher. Chen Can's
heart was pounding, and she didn't dare to breathe.

Chapter 3

"Late on the first day of school? She really doesn't take school seriously."

"Yeah, let's see how the teacher deals with her."

"Don't say that, maybe something happened on the way."

...

The students in the classroom began to whisper. Chen Can heard this and lowered her head even further,
biting .

"Quiet!" The teacher standing on the podium frowned as she looked at the whispering students. "
A country has its laws, a family has its rules, and our class should have its rules too. Since you're late, go stand outside as punishment."
She glanced at Chen Can, who stood helplessly at the classroom door, and said in a harsh tone.

Chen Can couldn't wait to leave this oppressive situation. Hearing this, she breathed a sigh of relief, quickly
walked to the corridor, leaned against the wall, pressed her hand to her chest to calm her racing heart, and let out a deep breath. The new
homeroom teacher has such a strong aura; it seems the days ahead won't be easy.

After relaxing, Chen Can curiously observed the new school. Looking down from the upper floor, a large flower bed stretched across
the middle , its lush flowers and plants arranged in beautiful patterns, tightly surrounding a magnificent
cherry blossom tree. It was the season transitioning from summer to autumn, and its leaves were beginning to fall sparsely.

Around the flower bed were three pristine white teaching buildings, connected by corridors, the sound of students reciting their lessons even carrying to
the other end of the corridor.

Beyond the flower bed was a red and green playground; the red was a long synthetic running track, the green was artificial
turf , and there was also a soccer field. In the distance, he could see classes taking physical education

lessons. Besides the building where Chen Can and his first-year high school students were located, the school had allocated
several other buildings for students of other grades, ensuring privacy and different teaching methods for each grade. For example, the
senior students often had extra classes on weekends and holidays to prepare for the

college entrance examination. The new school was truly large; it certainly lived up to its reputation as a top-tier high school. Chen Can's previous gloom vanished instantly. She turned her gaze
away, but her peripheral vision caught sight of a tall, slender figure on the other side of the corridor.

She turned to look and saw a student who, like her, was being punished by standing. But why was this person
so tall? Chen Can curiously scrutinized the figure.

Just then, the student being punished also turned to look in Chen Can's direction.

The instant their eyes met, both of them froze, seeing surprise on each other's faces.

How could it be her (him)?

The person not far away was no stranger; coincidentally, it was the boy who had helped Chen Can to school that morning.
Chen Can felt a little embarrassed, not expecting the two of them to meet again in this way.

The boy also scratched his head sheepishly, his two dimples particularly noticeable. He pointed to the sign hanging above the classroom
behind : Grade 11 (3).

Chen Can smiled at him and also pointed to the sign behind her.

Just then, the bell rang, and students filed out of the classroom. Soon, the corridor was filled with
people coming and going, and the boy disappeared from Chen Can's sight. She hadn't even had a chance to thank him in person,
and she didn't even know his name. Chen Can felt a little annoyed. She sighed, picked up her schoolbag, and went into her
classroom.

Standing in the middle of the classroom, Chen Can looked around and went straight to the corner. Because she was late, only the
last . In addition, there was a trash can behind her, so no one wanted to sit there. She wiped the dust off the desk and chair with a piece of paper, put her things away, rested her chin on her hands, and looked out the window
boredly .

The morning passed quickly. Since it was the first day of school, the teachers simply
introduced themselves to the students and had them introduce themselves.

This was undoubtedly tedious for Chen Can. Aside from speaking during the self-introductions,
she spent the rest of the classes looking out the window. Some birds she didn't know were chirping and building nests in
the trees . Chen Can even clearly identified how many nests were forming on several trees, silently
naming them in her mind.

However, what excited Chen Can was the delicious food in the school cafeteria at lunchtime,
comparable to her mother's cooking. She quickly finished her plate and then let out a loud
burp in front of everyone without any hesitation.

Students not far from her gave her disapproving looks. Chen Can grinned sheepishly, put her tray in
the recycling and ran back to the classroom.

Compared to the morning, Chen Can found the afternoon even harder to pass. Her least favorite subjects, math, physics, and chemistry, were
mostly scheduled during this time. Already prone to drowsiness, and with such a grueling class, Chen Can simply slumped onto her desk
and fell asleep.

When she woke up, the sun was almost setting, the warm, golden sunlight bathing her comfortably.

Just then, a commotion arose at the classroom door.

"Chen Can? Looks like someone's here. Wait a minute."

"Chen Can, someone's looking for you!"

She had just stretched in her seat when she heard someone calling her name. Strange,
she didn't know anyone here ; who would be looking for her?

Chen Can lazily walked to the door. This was the third time she'd seen the boy whose eyes turned into crescent moons when he smiled
.

"We meet again," the boy said with a grin. "Wait for me at the classroom door after school."

Chen Can hesitated for a moment, then said okay. The boy then happily trotted back into the classroom.

"Wow, so handsome, Chen Can! You seem to know him well. Who is he?" A
sweet-looking girl stared adoringly in the direction the boy had gone, tugging at Chen Can's clothes.

This was the first time anyone had spoken to her all day. However, she didn't know the
boy's name and couldn't give him the answer she wanted, so she smiled, shook her head, and walked away.

For the next class, Chen Can's mind was filled with these dramatic encounters between her and the boy; she
could eagerly

await the bell. Finally, school was over, and Chen Can grabbed her bag and rushed out.

Just as she stepped out of the classroom, she saw a boy, just as energetic as she was, standing at the door of the Grade 11 (3) classroom
.

After they met, she finally learned that the boy had a nice name: Shen Jiayu.

They walked home together, and Chen Can increasingly felt that Shen Jiayu was a very clean-looking and polite
boy. After chatting for a while, they discovered that they shared the same hobbies, favorite books, and games, and lived close
by, making their interactions stress-free and enjoyable.

Happy times always pass too quickly, and before she knew it, Chen Can was home. She happily said
goodbye to Shen Jiayu, promising to see him again next time.

Chen Can hummed a song as she walked into the house. Just as she was changing her slippers, Chen Cui's voice suddenly rang out above her
: "Who's that boy?"

"Oh, him? He's Shen Jiayu, a new friend I just met today." Chen Can sheepishly walked
past and went back to her room.

A new friend? Chen Cui's eyes darkened, almost frighteningly. He watched Chen Can's retreating figure, his left hand clenching into
a fist.

Chapter Four

Since the start of the school year, Chen Can realized the truth of the saying: knowledge is the deep sea, and she was a
freshwater fish .

She wondered how her brother, Chen Cui, consistently ranked among the top students in his grade, even during his rebellious high school years when his
grades never dropped. If it weren't for the fight he got caught doing last time,
the family probably wouldn't have known about his actions.

Chen Can slumped onto her desk, feeling frustrated, staring at the dense formulas in her textbook.

Finally, school was over, and Chen Can quickly packed her bag and headed out of the classroom.

For a long time, Shen Jiayu would wait for her at the school gate every day after school to walk home together, and today was no
exception.

"Did you understand the physics the teacher taught today?" Chen Can pouted dejectedly.

Shen Jiayu rubbed her little head and said with a smile, "As long as you listen carefully in class, there's nothing you can't learn.
The content the teacher taught today was very simple."

Hearing Shen Jiayu's relaxed tone, Chen Can felt even more depressed. Why was
there such ?

Shen Jiayu felt the air pressure around the small Chen Can suddenly drop, and smiled helplessly.

Just then, Chen Can saw several
young people wearing ripped jeans, with brightly colored hair and earrings, swaggering towards them in the distance.

At this moment, a little boy on the street was eating snacks he had just bought when he accidentally bumped into one of the
young men. The little boy fell to the ground, scattering his snacks all over the place.

The little boy burst into tears, but the young man showed no pity, instead cursing, "
You little brat, are you blind?!" He then raised his hand as if to hit the boy.

The expected scene didn't happen; his arm
was stopped mid-air by a man who looked like the leader behind him. "Never mind him, we have business to attend to."

With that, the group quickened their pace towards Chen Can and Shen Jiayu.

Seeing the menacing group of thugs approaching, Chen Can felt a sudden, inexplicable fear, and unconsciously took
a half-step back.

Shen Jiayu had already sensed something was wrong. Before Chen Can could react, he had already shielded him
behind him.

He frowned, his mind racing. The other side outnumbered them; escape was unlikely.
He could only do his best to protect Chen Can from harm.

As Shen Jiayu silently considered his options, the leader of the thugs took a step forward,
letting out a sinister laugh, his muscular face twitching as he pulled at it.

"Kid, this has nothing to do with you. We're here to find this girl. If you know what's good for you, get lost!" The leader tried his
best to sound vicious and ruthless, hoping to scare Shen Jiayu away so his mission would
be accomplished.

"If you have a problem, come at me. Why are you arguing with a girl?" Shen Jiayu glanced at
Chen Can behind him, pulling her even closer.

"Pah, don't push your luck!" The leader spat on the ground and gestured to the
thugs .

The thugs rushed forward and surrounded Shen Jiayu.

The remaining two thugs seized the opportunity and grabbed Chen Can, immobilizing her.

"Don't use too much force, be careful not to hurt her," the leader whispered to the thugs holding Chen Can. But Chen
Can was focused on Shen Jiayu and didn't hear him.

"Shen Jiayu, run! Don't worry about me, run!" Chen Can cried frantically,
but no matter how hard she punched and kicked, she couldn't break free from the two men's grasp.

Shen Jiayu managed to hold out for a while thanks to his height advantage, but with so many opponents, he quickly fell into a disadvantageous position. While he was wrestling with one of the thugs, the man on his right seized the opportunity and punched him

hard in the head. Shen Jiayu groaned, his vision went black, and he collapsed to the ground. "Shen Jiayu!" Chen Can cried out in anguish, and with a sudden burst of strength, she bit one of the men's hands. The man winced in pain and had to loosen his grip on Chen Can's hand. The other man was startled and loosened his grip, allowing Chen Can to break free and charge at Shen Jiayu like a madwoman, throwing herself on top of him. Fists rained down on Chen Can, her body trembling uncontrollably, her already petite frame appearing even more frail. "You...run away." Shen Jiayu's voice was hoarse and terrifying. His face was already bruised and swollen, and his consciousness was somewhat blurred. After seeing her rushing over, he managed to squeeze out a few words through clenched teeth. Chen Can's hot tears dripped onto Shen Jiayu's face. She shook her head and more firmly shielded Shen Jiayu in front of her. "Stop! Bastards, who told you to hit her?" the leader shouted angrily. The henchmen who were in the middle of a beating stopped what they were doing, completely confused. Didn't you tell us to beat her up? "Get out of here!" The thug leader kicked one of his henchmen away and said to Chen Can and Shen Jiayu, " Kid, let me tell you, stay away from this girl in the future. She's not someone you can mess with! Otherwise, I'll beat her every time !" After saying that, he glared at him hatefully and called his brothers away. Chen Can cried as she wiped the blood from the corner of Shen Jiayu's mouth, helped him sit up against the wall, and hurriedly checked his injuries. "I'm fine. Why were you so foolish just now, risking your life to protect me?" "I... I don't know either. I just rushed over after seeing you faint." Chen Can and Shen Jiayu looked at each other and laughed. Unbeknownst to Chen Can, not far from her, Chen Cui's gloomy gaze was watching their every move. The person standing next to him said in an almost fawning tone, "Brother Cui, everything was done as you instructed, but that kid is a bit stubborn. He refused to leave no matter what." "I saw it all." Chen Cui glanced at him indifferently and continued, "Don't tell anyone about this, especially not that girl." "Of course, but... who is that girl to you?" Chen Cui stared at him fiercely, without saying a word. "Ahem... well, I'll be going then." After that person left, Chen Cui looked at the two people not far away, remained silent for a while, and then turned and left as well.
