Li Xiangjun, a series of beauties from Chinese dynasties.

    page views:1  Publication date:2023-06-11 10:01:22
Li Xiangjun was the adopted daughter of Li Zhenli, a famous courtesan from the Qin-Hui River area of Nanjing during the late Ming Dynasty. She, along with
eight other renowned courtesans of the Qin-Hui River region—Liu Rushi, Gu Hengbo, Ma Xianglan, Chen Yuanyuan, Guan Baimen, Bian Yujing, and Dong Xiaowan—were known as the "
Eight Beauties of Jinling" at the time.

Li Zhenli was indeed a prominent figure among the courtesans of the Qin-Hui River
area
. She possessed a beauty more exquisite than peach blossoms and more alluring than a lotus emerging from water, and a naturally beautiful voice, adept at singing various folk songs and ballads. What was even more admirable was her character; she was impulsive and chivalrous,
spending lavishly without flinching. Besides many high-ranking officials and nobles who fell at her feet, she also attracted countless
literati, scholars, and upright and heroic figures, such as Chen Zhenhui, the leader of the Fushe Society, with whom she maintained close relationships.

Although Li Xiangjun was Li Zhenli's adopted daughter, Li Zhenli cherished her dearly, treating her as her own. Li Xiangjun
was not only beautiful but also exceptionally intelligent. Influenced by her mother, Li Zhenli, she was not only well-read and courteous but also proficient in
chess, music, calligraphy, and painting; she was especially skilled at singing Tang Xianzu's *The Peony Pavilion* and the brilliant play *The Story of the Lute*.

Li Xiangjun possessed outstanding talent and beauty, a strong sense of right and wrong, and a clear sense of what she loved and hated
. Although young, she associated with upright, virtuous, and learned scholars and literati. Unlike her mother, Li Zhenli, she did not easily make friends,
only those with whom she shared intellectual and artistic interests would become her confidants; otherwise, she preferred solitude to
socializing. Therefore, besides her mother Li Zhenli and her singing teacher Su Kunsheng, who often accompanied her, Li Xiangjun 's
acquaintances were mostly prominent figures in the Fushe Society.

In the eleventh year of the Chongzhen Emperor's reign, Hou Fangyu, a merchant from Henan, came to Nanjing for business and, through Yang Longyou's introduction,
met .

Because Hou Fangyu was from a prominent bureaucratic family in Henan and had close ties with the literati of the Fushe Society,
including leaders like Chen Zhenhui and Wu Yingji, he was a renowned scholar. Li Xiangjun, upon first meeting Hou Fangyu, felt he was the man she could entrust her life to and was deeply infatuated with him . Hou Fangyu, in turn, found Li Xiangjun not only beautiful and talented but also possessing admirable character, and having heard of , readily accepted her. That
night, Li Xiangjun hosted a banquet in her boudoir, where she and Hou Fangyu drank together. During the banquet, they recited poems , played music, and whispered sweet nothings… until late into the night, when they finally undressed and embraced each other to sleep. Li Xiangjun, shy from being naked, curled up, lying on her side with her back to Hou Fangyu, her alluring eyes slightly closed, not daring to look directly at him, yet not rejecting his hands roaming over her skin. Hou Fangyu's hands embraced Li Xiangjun from behind, his fingertips lightly touching the tips of her breasts, rhythmically teasing the sensitive nipples. Li Xiangjun felt her back was icy cold, while pressed against Hou Fangyu's warm chest; Hou Fangyu 's breath warmed her neck; his hot erection rubbed against her cool thighs. The extreme contrast of hot and cold stimulated Li Xiangjun's desire. Hou Fangyu's hands seemed to know their way around, smoothly tracing large circles on Li Xiangjun's lower abdomen and thighs, then slowly narrowing the circles, his palms lightly touching the stray hairs. Li Xiangjun shivered, enjoying the pleasure of Hou Fangyu's gentle fingers tracing her pubic hair and touching her moist vulva. Hou Fangyu stroked her wet patch, knowing Li Xiangjun's desire was rising, so he gently turned her body, making her lie on her back. Li Xiangjun half-heartedly turned over. "Hiss!" Hou Fangyu couldn't help but gasp, looking at Li Xiangjun's proud, flawless breasts, her nipples erect and hard. Hou Fangyu's lust was like a breached dam, unstoppable! He suddenly lowered his head, sucking on the buds of Li Xiangjun's nipples; his hands pinched around her breasts, his tongue swirling around her clitoris. Li Xiangjun could no longer hold back, her mouth wide open, panting heavily, her breaths mixed with resonant moans from her throat and nose . Li Xiangjun clung tightly to the back of Hou Fangyu's head, twisting her chest to press his lips even closer . Taking advantage of their thrashing bodies, Hou Fangyu slowly spread Li Xiangjun's thighs, trying to let his erect penis find its own place. Without guidance or support, and with their bodies writhing in ecstasy, Hou Fangyu's penis merely rubbed and grazed against Li Xiangjun's lower body and crotch, sometimes even failing to penetrate. Li Xiangjun, aroused by the blindly thrusting penis, both hated and loved it. Forgetting her feminine modesty, she quickly grabbed his penis and guided it towards her moist , fragrant entrance. The moment the tip of Hou Fangyu's penis touched the tender opening, it suddenly became very sensitive. He could clearly feel the thick, wet labia parting under the pressure of his glans, the narrow opening seemingly opening and closing with Li Xiangjun's breath. Hou Fangyu, suppressing his impatience, slowly advanced, wanting to savor every corner of Li Xiangjun's vagina with his keen senses . Although Li Xiangjun was accustomed to the brothels of Pingkang and had witnessed all sorts of lewd acts, she had never been so wanton as tonight; nor had she ever tasted such exquisite pleasure in intercourse. Amidst her moans and groans, Li Xiangjun cried out for Hou Fangyu to go harder, faster… but she didn't even know what she was saying, for she was already lost in the pleasure of successive orgasms! When Li Xiangjun slowly came to her senses, she realized that Hou Fangyu was already limp and pressing down on her. Li Xiangjun didn't even know when Hou Fangyu ejaculated. She only felt the penis inside her vagina slowly deflating; the fullness inside her vagina was also slowly subsiding, and the flowing hot fluid soaked the sheets along her buttocks... The crowing of a rooster came from afar, and Li Xiangjun closed her eyes with a feeling of sexual bliss... Ruan Dacheng! A shameless scholar who had once served Wei Zhongxian during the Tianqi era and was willing to be Wei Zhongxian's adopted son.

Playwright Ruan Dacheng, demoted by Emperor Chongzhen, was living in exile in Nanjing.

Due to the political climate in Nanjing at the time, the righteous forces of the Fushe (Revive Society) intellectuals held a dominant position among intellectuals
. Therefore, as a remnant of Wei Zhongxian's faction, Ruan Dacheng was frequently criticized and attacked in public and at intellectual gatherings
. In Nanjing, Ruan Dacheng was like a rat in the street, hated by everyone, in a very awkward situation.

However, Ruan Dacheng was a restless man; he tried every means to befriend Fushe intellectuals in order to gain
political advancement. He heard that Hou Fangyu had
a very close relationship with Fushe leaders Chen Zhenhui and Wu Yingji, and he wanted to befriend Hou Fangyu through his friend Yang Longyou, hoping that Hou Fangyu would speak on his
behalf .

When Ruan Dacheng learned that Hou Fangyu was going to marry Li Xiangjun, he took out two hundred taels of silver and asked
Yang Longyou to help him buy clothes, jewelry, and furniture for Li Xiangjun as dowry to give to Hou Fangyu.

On the night Li Xiangjun and Hou Fangyu became engaged, Hou Fangyu, being a guest in Nanjing, had nothing to give Li Xiangjun as a token of their
love. Therefore, in front of everyone, he inscribed a poem on a white silk fan: "A red pavilion leans against the road, a prince
first rides in his carriage. The green stream is full of magnolia trees, but they cannot compare to the peach and plum blossoms in the east wind." He then presented it to Li Xiangjun as a token of their love.

Amidst the joyous cheers of the crowd, Li Xiangjun solemnly accepted Hou Fangyu's silk fan, treasuring it as
a keepsake more precious than life itself.

The next day, as soon as she got up, Yang Longyou came to congratulate Hou Fangyu and Li Xiangjun on their wedding. Li Xiangjun noticed the clothes and jewelry
Yang Longyou had prepared and, puzzled, inquired about their origin.

Yang Longyou explained, "I am acting
on behalf of Ruan Dacheng, asking Hou Fangyu to intercede for him with Chen Zhenhui and Wu Yingji, leaders of the Fushe Society."

Hou Fangyu then added, "Ruan Dacheng was once a disciple of the renowned scholar Zhao Nanxing. Although he associated with the Wei
faction in the past, he also protected the gentlemen of the Donglin Party. Now that the Wei faction has fallen, he has become an enemy of both the Donglin and Fushe societies.
Aren't the recent attacks and humiliations against him by the Fushe members a bit excessive?! Even if he is a member of the Wei faction, if he repents and returns to
the right path, he should be forgiven."

Upon hearing this, Li Xiangjun immediately widened her eyes and raised her eyebrows, angrily saying to Hou Fangyu, "
What are you saying? Ruan Dacheng used to curry favor with the powerful and influential. Because he became Wei Zhongxian's adopted son, he committed all sorts of evil deeds and lost all
sense of shame !" Women, peddlers, and laborers all spit on him, and these upright students of the Fushe Society
deserve his wrath for exposing his evil deeds, attacking him, and insulting him. Now you want to sympathize with him and rescue him! Think about it, you are a renowned
scholar , yet you want to use your reputation to help a villain escape danger. Aren't you putting yourself on a perilous path? Please
think it over.”

Li Xiangjun paused, glanced at the gifts, and continued, “If you are hesitant to refuse him
because then I will now take off the clothes and jewelry he gave me and return
all the dowry. I would rather die poor than accept the gifts from this servile villain.” With that, Li Xiangjun took off her wedding
dress, removed her hairpins and bracelets, and threw them on the ground.

Upon seeing Li Xiangjun's reaction, Hou Fangyu hurriedly said to Yang Longyou, "I rarely
see a woman as strong and upright as Li Xiangjun. She is not only my lover but also my mentor and close friend. Brother Yang! Please don't blame me. The reason I
am respected by the world and have some reputation among my academic friends is because I value reputation and distinguish between the wise and the foolish. If I accept Ruan Yuanlao's gifts
now , I will have lost my reputation, be unable to distinguish between good and bad people, and be even
worse than a woman from Pingkang like Li Xiangjun. What will become of me then? If I am despised by the gentlemen of the Fushe and Donglin societies because of this, I will
be alone. What power will I have left to help Yuanlao? Therefore, please, Brother Longyou,
return these things to Yuanlao."

Yang Longyou had no choice but to follow Hou and Li's wishes and return the gifts and money to Ruan Dacheng.

In October of the sixteenth year of the Chongzhen Emperor's reign (1640), Li Zicheng's rebel army had already reached the gates of Beijing
. Zuo Liangyu's army in Wuhan, suffering from food shortages and low morale,

was considering a southward march to Nanjing to seek sustenance. At that time, Commander Xiong Mingyu convened a meeting with Shi Kefa, Minister of War in Nanjing, Ma Shiying, Governor-General of Fengyang, Yang Longyou, and Ruan Dacheng to discuss how to

  deal with the situation.

Because Hou Fangyu refused to return a gift from Ruan Dacheng, Ruan Dacheng harbored resentment. Therefore, at the meeting,
Ruan Dacheng falsely accused Hou Fangyu of colluding with Zuo Liangyu and plotting to act as an inside agent in Nanjing for Zuo Liangyu's attack on the city, urging Xiong Mingyu to arrest
Hou Fangyu.

Yang Longyou went to Meixianglou to inform Hou Fangyu, instructing him to leave Nanjing with Shi Kefa and go to the Yangzhou front to supervise the troops
and avoid further danger. Before his departure, Li Xiangjun hosted a farewell banquet for Hou Fangyu at Zhuye Ferry. At the banquet, Li Xiangjun
sang a pipa poem for Hou Fangyu. After finishing, she said to him,

"Your literary talent is no less than Cai Zhonglang's, but Cai Zhonglang's character and morality are not as outstanding as your talent.

In any case, he once served Dong Zhuo and advised this cruel butcher, which is
undoubtedly a stain on his character. I hope you can cherish yourself in the future, distinguish right from wrong in this chaotic world, uphold
your integrity, and remain pure, so as not to go astray. Your talent and character are indeed among the best in today's society
. Although you are currently down on your luck, your future is immeasurable. I hope you will cherish your future." Li Xiangjun gave her
repeated before parting ways with Hou Fangyu.

After seeing Hou Fangyu off, Li Xiangjun stayed in seclusion in Meixiang Tower and never came down to receive guests again. Li Zhenli
cherished Li Xiangjun and sympathized with the relationship between Li Xiangjun and Hou Fangyu, so she did not force Li Xiangjun to do anything she did not want to do.

In March of the seventeenth year of the Chongzhen Emperor's reign (1644), Li Zicheng captured Beijing, and the Chongzhen Emperor hanged himself on Coal Hill.

In April of the same year, the Nanjing Dynasty, under the leadership of Ma Shiying and Shi Kefa, welcomed Prince Fu, You Song, to
the throne, establishing the Hongguang Dynasty. Ma Shiying, for his meritorious service in welcoming the emperor, was appointed Grand Secretary of the Cabinet and took charge
of the government. Shi Kefa was sent to the front lines to oversee military preparations. Hou Fangyu remained in Shi Kefa's army as a behind-the-scenes military advisor.

Due to Ma Shiying's promotion, Yang Longyou was appointed a Principal of the Ministry of Rites, and Ruan Dacheng was reinstated as Minister of the Imperial Household Department, with Hou Fangyu also appointed as a high-ranking official .
Tian Yang, a relative and fellow townsman, served as the Grand Canal Transport Commissioner.

After Hongguang ascended the throne, aside from selecting beauties
and

listening to songs, he neglected state affairs. His motto was: "Nothing is better than a cup in hand; how often in life do we see the moon overhead?" Under the rule of a foolish emperor and powerful ministers, the Nanjing court had fallen into a corrupt atmosphere of power struggles, factionalism, extravagance,
and sycophancy.

Grand Canal Transport Commissioner Tian Yang was the first person in the Nanjing court to have real economic power. He obtained this position entirely through
the promotion of his fellow townsman and relative, Grand Secretary Ma Shiying. Therefore, before taking office, he held a banquet at home
to thank Ma Shiying, and invited his friends Yang Longyou and Ruan Dacheng to accompany him.

At the banquet, Tian Yang proposed to use three hundred taels of silver to marry a
talented as a concubine. As soon as he hinted at this idea, Ma Tuying expressed his support, and Yang Longyou and
Ruan Dacheng offered to carry it out for him.

Ruan Dacheng, seeking revenge against Hou Fangyu and Li Xiangjun for the return of his dowry, recommended Li Xiangjun to Tian Yang as
the most suitable candidate. After the banquet, Yang Longyou sought out the old music master Ding Jizhi and Bian Yujing to act as matchmakers for Li Xiangjun.

Upon meeting Li Xiangjun, she told them about her loneliness and
isolation .

Ding and Bian advised her, "Why not find a new husband?"

Li Xiangjun replied, "I have already married Hou Lang, how can I change my mind halfway?"

Ding and Bian had no choice but to give a clear answer: "There is a high-ranking official named Tian Yang who is willing to offer three hundred taels of silver to take you as a concubine.
I wonder if you are willing? We have come to ask him."

Li Xiangjun smiled and said, "When I married Hou Lang, you also attended the wedding. At that time, he
wrote a love poem on a white silk fan as a memento. This fan is like a bright red thread, binding Hou Lang and me together
forever . It is more precious than ten thousand taels of gold. How can three hundred taels of silver move my heart, which is devoted to Hou Lang?
There are many beautiful women in the brothels along the Qinhuai River who can become officials' wives. I am unlucky and ill-fated and
cannot enjoy such a blessing. Please go to other people's homes and find a suitable person!"

Ding Jizhi and Bian Yujing failed to persuade Li Xiangjun, so Yang Longyou asked the brothel girls Zheng Tuoniang and Kou Baimen to persuade
Li Xiangjun . Upon meeting Li Xiangjun, they first threatened her, saying, "If you don't marry this time, the officials will take you to learn opera, where you'll spend
your whole life in an official opera troupe, never seeing a man, and unable to marry even if you want to. Wouldn't that be even more painful?"

Li Xiangjun firmly replied, "I would rather remain a widow for Hou Lang for life than remarry."

Zheng and Kou further threatened Li Xiangjun, saying, "We'll offer you three hundred taels of silver if you refuse. Tomorrow, the Ministry of Rites
will send officials to take you away and torture you into marriage. Let's see if you'll still marry then!"

Li Xiangjun resolutely said, "I'd rather die than remarry."

Yang Longyou, seeing that he couldn't persuade Li Xiangjun immediately, temporarily put the matter aside. Tian Yang couldn't wait for the matter
to be resolved and went to take up his post. Therefore, Li Xiangjun was able to enjoy a few more days of peace.

One day, Ma Tuying hosted a banquet at Wanyu Garden, inviting guests to drink and appreciate plum blossoms. After the meal, they wanted to find a singing girl to perform.
When everyone was discussing which singing girl would be best, Yang Longyou mentioned Li Xiangjun again. So, Ma Tuying immediately
sent someone to invite Li Xiangjun to sing.

At this time, Ruan Dacheng deliberately asked Yang Longyou, "Li Xiangjun, isn't she the one Tian Yang wanted to buy as a concubine for three hundred
taels of silver ?"

  Yang Longyou replied, "That's her."

Ma Tuying asked, "Why didn't you marry her?"

Yang Longyou replied, "That silly girl wants to remain chaste for Hou Fangyu and resolutely refuses. I sent someone to talk to her twice, but
she resolutely refused to come downstairs, leaving me with no choice."

Ma Tuying was very angry and said, "With such a bold servant, she doesn't even know the power of the Prime Minister's yamen runners.

It's laughable that such a prostitute is so arrogant and presumptuous, truly a moth drawn to a flame, courting her own destruction."

Ruan Dacheng also added fuel to the fire, saying, "It's all because that brat Hou Fangyu spoiled her; he insulted me before."

Ma Tuying was even more furious and said, "This is outrageous, outrageous, a... " Even three hundred taels of silver can't buy
a prostitute. This is no joke!

Ruan Dacheng said: "Tian Caotai is a fellow villager of the Prime Minister. If she is so humiliated by him, we should try to cure her."

Ma Shiying agreed and said, "Okay!" Wait until she comes. At this time, the person who went to invite Li Xiangjun came back and said, "
Li Xiangjun said he was sick and refused to go downstairs!"

Ma Tuying said: "In this case, there is no need to go and invite her. Just go to a few people to carry her in a small sedan chair
. Regardless of whether she agrees or not, just send her to Tian Caofu's boat to ask them to get married. It's over."

He turned back to Yang Longyou and said, "My sister-in-law, you are familiar with the Li family, so I will let you
take !" "

Yang Longyou led the stewards and soldiers of the Prime Minister's Mansion, carried a sedan chair, and went to Li's house to marry Li Xiangjun with three hundred taels of silver.
They knocked on the door, and Li Zhenli came out to open the door. Yang Longyou entered the house and told Li Zhenli how Ma Shiying wanted to
marry Li Xiangjun instead of Tian Yang.

Yang Longyou said to Li Xiangjun, "Ma Shiying was furious when he learned that you refused to marry Tian Yang. He sent a group of thugs to
forcibly marry you. I was afraid you would suffer, so I came to protect you. In my opinion, marrying a grain transport commissioner is not a bad thing for you. Do you think you
have the ability to withstand the power of such a powerful official?"

Li Zhenli also said, "Master Yang is right. Looking at the situation, there's no way to change it. You might as well pack up and
go downstairs as soon as possible!"

Li Xiangjun then looked at Yang Longyou and Li Zhenli and said, "What are you saying! Master Yang
acted as matchmaker , and Mother officiated at the wedding. Everyone in the hall saw me marry Hou Lang. The token of our betrothal is still here with me."
Saying this, she picked up a white silk fan from the table and said, "Master Yang has read this poem of betrothal. Have you both forgotten
it?"

Li Zhenli said, "That Hou Lang fled to avoid trouble. Where is he now? Are you going to wait for him for three years if he doesn't return
?"

Li Xiangjun said, "Don't mention three years, even thirty years, a hundred years, I will wait for him to the end, and I will never remarry."

At this moment, there was a commotion outside: "It's late at night, hurry up and get her into the sedan chair! We still need to carry her to the boat!"

Li Zhenli said anxiously to Yang Longyou, "Things have come to this point, we can't worry about that now, quickly help her wash and
dress up !"

Li Xiangjun used a fan to block her way, refusing to let them do her hair and dress her. Li Zhenli and Yang Longyou forced her to wash and dress up, and after
a hasty dressing, the two were about to carry Li Xiangjun downstairs. At this moment, Li
Xiangjun cried and said, "I would rather die than go downstairs." After saying this, Li Xiangjun banged her head against a pillar, fainted

, and fell to the ground. Li Zhenli and Yang Longyou were also really panicked. Yang Longyou pointed to the fan that had fallen to the ground and said, "Look,
her forehead is all broken, even this fan is splattered with blood." He picked up the fan and, together with Li Zhenli, helped Li Xiangjun to the back
room to rest.

Yang Longyou said to Li Zhenli, "What do you think we should do?"

Li Zhenli said, "Please, Master Yang, save me! Think of a way!"

Yang Longyou said, "There's only one way: you dress up and marry into the Tian family in place of Li Xiangjun."

Li Zhenli said, "What if they recognize me?"

Yang Longyou said, "As long as I don't say anything, who could recognize me?"

Li Zhenli said helplessly, "That's the only way!" So Li Zhenli dressed up and went to marry into the Tian family in place of
Li Xiangjun .

Although Li Zhenli was nearly forty, she was naturally beautiful and well-maintained, so she managed to pass

as a substitute bride. However, to ensure she wouldn't be exposed, Li Zhenli planned to use her skills in bed to
bewitch Tian Yang first, giving him pleasure in bed. Even if she was exposed, perhaps Tian Yang would be too infatuated with her
beauty to pursue the matter.

Therefore, on their wedding night, Li Zhenli used every trick in the book to serve Tian Yang at all costs.

As soon as they got into bed, Li Zhenli used her signature move—blowing, sucking, holding, licking, and swallowing—to tease Tian Yang until he
rolled around in pleasure, crying out for his parents.

According to Li Zhenli's own memory, since she mastered this skill, no man could withstand four rounds of
blowing, sucking, holding, licking, and swallowing; seven out of ten would ejaculate on the third round. For
a man like Tian Yang, all looks and no substance, Li Zhenli finished him off in a few rounds.

Tian Yang's wedding night was a blast, lasting all night, and he ejaculated four times. Sadly, the rest of the time
was wasted on getting his "little brother" up; even more sadly, Tian Yang was aroused by Li Zhenli's mouth;
his penis never even touched her vaginal opening.

However, Tian Yang didn't care about becoming increasingly thin and enjoyed it immensely…

              (Epilogue) The Peach Blossom Fan

—A month later, Yang Longyou and the opera teacher Su Kunshan both came to visit Li Xiangjun. Just then, Li Xiangjun was sleeping in the room
, and the white silk fan stained with blood, bearing a poem, lay on the table.

Su Kunshan said, "Li Xiangjun has been worried sick these past few days, missing Hou Fangyu and also thinking about her mother, Li Zhenli .
We shouldn't disturb her; let her rest. Let's sit here for a while."

Yang Longyou picked up the fan and said, "What a fine fan! It's a pity it's stained with blood. Old Su!
Does Li Xiangjun have any paint here? Let me help her fix it!"

Yang Longyou prepared his brush and ink, and with a black brush, he drew a plum blossom branch in the gaps between the bloodstains on the fan. He then
added a few green leaves to the bloodstains with green paint, and thus, a picture of blooming plum blossoms appeared on the fan.

At this moment, Li Xiangjun heard voices from the outer room, woke up from her dream, put on makeup in front of the mirror, and came out from the inner room.
Seeing Yang Longyou and Su Kunshan, she bowed and sat down at the table.

She suddenly noticed that the poem fan on the table had changed; the chaotic bloodstains had transformed into a tree of vibrant, blooming plum blossoms. She
liked it very much and thanked Yang Longyou for his artistic embellishment of the fan.

Yang Longyou asked Li Xiangjun with concern, "What are your plans for the future? What if Hou Fangyu doesn't return
?" Yang Longyou continued, "Why don't we ask someone to go to the Jiangbei front to look for him!"

Su Kunshan, standing nearby, said, "I want to go home in a few days! My hometown happens to be in Henan, and I'll be passing through
the Jiangbei front along the way. Let me handle this!"

Yang Longyou said, "Then, Li Xiangjun, write a letter and ask your master to take it!"

Li Xiangjun thought for a moment and said, "I have a thousand words in my heart, but a letter cannot express them. Why don't you let
Master take this poem fan with you?" Because this fan was a token of love given to me by Hou Lang, and the poem it contained expressed his
deep affection for me; the bloodstains on the poem symbolized my unwavering loyalty to him; and the plum blossoms painted by Master Yang conveyed my
future aspirations. Therefore, this fan signifies my myriad sorrows and boundless emotions, expresses my
deep , and conveys my unwavering will to never change, even unto death. …This fan is also
a familiar old object to him, so seeing the fan is like seeing me.”

Thus, Su Kunshan set off with the poem-studded fan, carrying Li Xiangjun's longing for Hou Fangyu! Su Kunshan was
to search for Hou Fangyu for Li Xiangjun amidst the chaos of war and on a long journey…
