This is a new online account I've created. Let me tell you the whole story. I still feel very wronged thinking about it now, and I wonder how other women would handle this situation.
I'm a student currently interning at a company in Beijing. Anyone who works in Beijing knows that the Beijing subway is incredibly crowded during rush hour (8:00 to 9:00), especially Line 10 and Line 1, which are practically saturated.
It's winter now, and as a student, I can't dress too revealingly. Today I wore cashmere tights and wool shorts, paired with boots, and carried a backpack—that should be considered conservative, right? My upper body was just a regular sweater, with my coat in my hand.
The incident happened on Line 1. I boarded at Jianguomen, heading towards Guomao. As soon as I got on, I was pushed forward by the crowd behind me. Diagonally in front of me was a girl carrying a bag, and to my left was the groping man (I'll post a picture of him later). There were a lot of people around, and I felt something sticking out of my thong shorts, near my groin. At first, I thought it was a girl's bag stuck in front of me, so I moved around a bit, but I found something was still pressing against my groin, even inside my shorts.
I tried to move it away with my hand, but then I realized my hand was touching another hand! When I tried to grab that lewd hand, it immediately pulled back! I was furious. Then I saw the lewd man standing to my left move his hand, pulling it up from underneath, pretending to grab a tablet! I immediately confronted him, saying, "What are you doing?! I'll call the police!" He pretended not to know anything and kept calling me a "lunatic!" I was furious. All I could do was yell at him, "Shameless! Don't you know what you're doing? Get off the train and you'll be facing the police!!" He ignored me, and everyone around me thought I was crazy. I was so upset...
I stopped myself and kept thinking about what to do. So I took a picture of him and decided to post it on Tianya (a Chinese online forum) so that other women struggling in Beijing could see through him! He probably thought I was a student and easy to bully, because he remained calm. When we got to Guomao Station, he was about to get off, and I was standing behind him. As he was about to get off, I pushed him hard from behind! He stumbled but didn't fall. I now really regret not kicking him again—I wish I could have made him fall! Even after he saw me push him, he kept cursing. I didn't get off, and once the doors closed, he couldn't do anything to me! I guess everyone on the train really thought I was crazy...
That's what happened. This is the first time I've encountered such a shameless person, and I hope it's the last! I want to learn more about the law in this area to protect myself! The most difficult part of dealing with sexual harassment is collecting evidence. Many perverted men refuse to admit it, which leaves you at a loss... It's so frustrating and helpless...
