Wu Zongxian's outburst after being humiliated on the weekend changed my opinion of him.

Following the tragic death of Zhang Tao, the male host of Jiangsu TV's "Extraordinary Weekend" program, in a car accident, the question of who would succeed him as the host of this popular variety show has been a major point of interest. Jiangsu TV held a two-month nationwide open audition for the male host. This particular episode was broadcast live, with Wu Zongxian as the guest host. The program's premise was to select one person from the three finalists after rigorous selection; this person would then become the male host of "Extraordinary Weekend." One game segment involved contestants and the host standing in a row. Each person had to sing a song containing a number and then pass a "landmine" (a prop from the show, similar to a game of musical chairs) to the next person. If a "landmine" remained in someone's hand for too long, it would spark. Those who couldn't sing the song were punished by sitting in an "electric chair." (By the way, when Brother Xian sat in this so-called "electric chair," he was subjected to 220 volts. If you've ever been shocked, you know what that feels like.) The show continued like this, and two contestants were punished for not singing the required songs, being forced to sit in the "electric chair." The voltage wasn't actually 220 volts, but the contestants still suffered facial contortions from the shock, and sparks could be seen appearing under the chair as the current passed through their bodies. In the third round, the camera gave a close-up: contestant number 1, Yang Le, took a remote control from his pocket. When the "landmine" was passed to Brother Xian, he had just sung one word when it sparked. Brother Xian found it strange and argued with the other hosts and contestants, but ultimately had no choice but to sit in the "electric chair." Then, 220 volts passed through his body, and Brother Xian looked extremely pained, kneeling on the ground and yelling: "My butt is burned!" But that wasn't the end. The game continued, and the same trick was used again. When the "landmine" reached Brother Xian's hand, the remote control in contestant number 1, Yang Le's hand, caused the "landmine" in Brother Xian's hand to spark again. The result, of course, was that he was back in the "electric chair," and the 220 volts passed through his body once more. The game continued, and when the "landmine" sparked for the third time in Brother Xian's hand, he finally realized he was being pranked. He noticed the remote control in Yang Le's hand. Then the following scene unfolded.
Brother Xian walked over to Yang Le, snatched the remote control from him, and pressed the button. At that moment, the "landmine" on the ground sparked again, and Brother Xian finally understood. Brother Xian was genuinely helpless and angry at that moment, sitting on the stage constantly touching his buttocks; I think the pain he felt was real. The female host (I don't know her name, and I don't want to know her name), the contestants, and the director were all dumbfounded, and the scene was incredibly awkward. Brother Xian sat on the ground and said, "I really can't film right now because it really hurts. I've been enduring it the whole time." The female host and the contestant were stunned by this unexpected situation and kept apologizing. Honestly, this game was really excessive, and Brother Xian was genuinely angry. At this point, Brother Xian called his assistant and asked him to tell the director that he wouldn't be filming anymore. Then, contestant number 1 said, "Why are you calling your manager? It's a live broadcast! You need to tell him this is a live broadcast!" Seriously? Brother Xian has been in the industry for 22 years, doesn't he know what a live broadcast is? That young man is truly ignorant. Then the female host said something that made me even angrier: "It's alright, actually it's alright, it's not that bad..." Brother Xian immediately replied, "It's alright, you go up and try. If you had communicated with me before the show was recorded, it would have been okay, but... with so many audience members here, you're making me very embarrassed. People will think I have a bad temper. I'm really not like that. That chair is impossible to sit on. You can try it yourself. A child at home was shocked, and went on the first try, and was very peaceful." This was the female host explaining to Brother Xian that it was a prank they had orchestrated. Hearing her coquettish yet disgusting voice made me want to vomit. After listening to their explanation, Brother Xian said something that really moved me: "Actually, I've never been this angry during a recording. Many people say I have the best temper among Taiwanese artists, but today, facing so many audience members, I only have one thing to say: the prank was a success!!!"
Wu Zongxian used his signature humor and magnanimity to defuse the awkward situation, even though he had been hurt. I know he did it for all the audience members present, because Wu Zongxian has said that his fans are his true bosses and breadwinners. The reason I'm posting this today is to illustrate the character of a truly excellent host on stage. If it were someone else, like Li Yong or Zhu Jun, do you think they would have turned on him and walked away immediately? I know many people on Tianya dislike Wu Zongxian, calling him a representative of vulgarity, saying he's always spouting crude jokes and is utterly tasteless. But isn't there a reason why Wu Zongxian is so popular in Taiwan? Putting everything else aside, just look at this incident—the magnanimity and grace Wu Zongxian displayed, I think you wouldn't disagree, right? After defusing the awkward situation, Wu Zongxian didn't just walk away; he was responsible to the audience. Even that idiotic bald director gave him a thumbs up. Actually, if Brother Xian had turned on him, I don't think anyone would have blamed him, because Jiangsu TV really went too far.
This is an article I found on Sohu about this incident, written by some unknown reporter: "The program was hosted by Taiwan's 'King of Variety Shows,' Wu Zongxian, who announced and personally presented the awards. Although Wu Zongxian played a prank on the hosts and guests during the program's 'prank operation,' the several 'backup' male hosts all showed their wit, especially the humble and sincere Yang Le, who kept bowing and apologizing, making the audience laugh. During the recording of the program, Wu Zongxian praised the new host Yang Le highly, believing that Yang Le had strong entertainment potential. He also earnestly advised Yang Le to 'have the spirit of serving the people' in entertainment, to do a good job on the program, and not to live up to expectations. He also expressed his belief that 'Very Weekend,' which he took over, would reach new heights. Yang Le humbly stated: 'I still have a long way to go to catch up with Wu Zongxian, and this is something I need to learn in the future.'" "

I just downloaded it and took a look, and I absolutely can't stand it. Most people would have just walked away (220V!!!), but thankfully Brother Xian is magnanimous. After his outburst, he held back to appease that boring TV station. That female host... ...is both stupid and shameless, and extremely ignorant. I don't want to say more; I'm already tired of cursing on the forums where this post is being reposted. You'll see for yourselves. Anyway, I wasn't initially a fan of some of Brother Xian's actions, but now I'm convinced. Many domestic hosts really should learn from him..."
