Ranran, the Rising Sun Sister - Chapter Sixteen: Before High School

    page views:1  Publication date:2023-04-05
After his birthday on August 4th, he will soon be going to the affiliated high school to report for class placement exam.
For a while, the two of them were engrossed in their intoxicating physical explorations, completely forgetting about this matter. Neither of them reviewed it.
On the day of the placement exam, Song Kang took the two children to the school for registration. The sight of one parent with two children attracted the attention of others, because usually it was one or two children who brought their own.
When Song Yiran sat in her father's car, she always gave him perfunctory answers. Song Kang assumed it was because he was busy with work and hadn't spent enough time with her, which was why the gap between father and daughter had widened.
That's not actually the case.
Song Yiran simply didn't know how to face it.
She glanced at Chen Muyang beside her, who looked no different from usual, and secretly sighed, thinking to herself, "He's really good at pretending."
"Ranran, there's a problem with a batch of timber at the factory. You can take bus 99 or 182 from here to go back. You can take these two buses to and from school from now on."
"Are you coming back these few days, Dad?" Song Yiran asked.
"Dad will be staying at the factory for the next few days. He's been renovating and decorating several villas. And there's also the matter of our new house, right? If you and Muyang find cooking troublesome, you can just eat out or order takeout."
Chen Muyang quickly shook his head, "It's alright, Uncle."
Song Yiran watched as her father hurriedly got into the driver's seat, started the engine, and waved to them as he turned the steering wheel.
Dad seems to have more gray hair and more wrinkles.
People always get old. I wonder how my mother is doing lately, and I haven't called her.
"Let's go, let's see which exam room we're in." Chen Muyang patted her shoulder, bringing her back to her senses.
Song Yiran looked closely and said, "It's in Class 4 of the second year of high school. It seems to be arranged according to the original junior high school."
As expected, after entering the examination room, Chen Muyang found that everyone in the room seemed to be somewhat familiar. Since they were from the same junior high school, even if they didn't know each other, they would still have some impression of each other's faces.
Song Yiran also saw two former classmates, but they weren't very familiar with each other, so she just greeted them.
Tang Chenying also took the exam at the First Affiliated High School, in the next exam room.
Two of Chen Muyang's friends, Wang Liantao and Shen Maofan, were admitted to the First Affiliated High School, but they were in a different examination room.
There are ten classes in one grade, two of which are honors classes. Song Yiran didn't plan to get into the honors class. She and Chen Muyang hadn't studied much, and they figured getting into a regular class would be fine.
After the exam, they went to the school auditorium to listen to the grade director and grade group leader talk about the military training on August 22nd.
She sighed silently; it was time for military training again.
When they took the bus back, the fact that they were walking alone together as a man and a woman probably attracted some attention. However, the bigger reason was probably that they were sharing a parasol.
Teenagers at this age are always full of curiosity about gossip about men and women in life.
While waiting for the train at the station, Wang Liantao and Shen Maofan were also there. With a girl they weren't very familiar with present, the boys didn't feel comfortable joking around. So they chatted with Chen Muyang about how their exams had gone and whether they wanted to play ball or video games.
There were some things she didn't understand, so she could only silently wipe her sweat and listen.
Just then, a pill bug crawled onto the ground. Out of boredom, Song Yiran touched it with her foot, and the bug curled up into a ball.
She listened to Chen Muyang and his friend talking animatedly, lost in thought.
He used to be somewhat aloof, or rather, introverted, but now he can joke around with friends and make fun of others, while she has become less fond of making new friends in recent years.
They are slow to warm up to people and dislike trouble; they feel they have to get to know new friends all over again.
During the exam, she was thinking that she hoped Tang Chenying could be in the same class as her, which would save her a lot of trouble. Although Tang Chenying can be a bit gossipy and chatty at times, she's a good person otherwise. She'd make a good friend.
Just then, Shen Maofan started talking about a boy from their previous class, and his eyes secretly fell on Song Yiran beside him. Wang Liantao understood and casually said, "Sister Muyang, there's something I'm not sure if I should say."
Shen Maofan punched him on the shoulder. "What kind of address is that?"
Song Yiran suddenly snapped out of her daze, adjusted her glasses, and looked at them suspiciously. "What?"
Shen Maofan chuckled mischievously, "There was this guy in our class, we called him Big Octopus, he was really pretentious and loved writing poetry. One day, our friend, that fat guy, Lao Zhang, you know? He secretly read what he wrote and found out it was a love letter."
She was completely baffled. "And then?"
"That was written for you, with four bold characters: 'To Song Yiran'."
She looked up at Chen Muyang, who looked completely bewildered, as if he knew nothing.
"I don't know..." she said.
The two boys were taken aback, then looked at Chen Muyang, "Damn, you didn't tell your sister about something this interesting?"
"I forgot."
"Come on! Big Octopus was so angry that he waited for Lao Zhang at the basketball court that day. He was almost crying, saying that his well-written poem had been defiled."
"I really forgot," he replied casually.
The two boys got carried away and started talking about other topics, including Chen Muyang.
"There was a girl in our class who really liked Tao Ge a couple of years ago. But then Mu Yang grew up and she started liking him instead. It's fine if you like someone, but she had to make sure the whole class knew, so everyone in the class would think that Tao Ge and Mu Yang were fighting over her."
"Actually, Su Lili is quite good-looking, it's just that she's a bit... pretentious."
"Isn't she just like your girlfriend, Brother Tao?"
"What are you saying!"
Song Yiran chuckled softly, finding their conversation quite amusing.
Chen Muyang noticed a No. 99 bus approaching from not far away. "The bus is here," a hand waved in front of her.
Song Yiran snapped out of her daze and glanced at him. "Okay."
The other two boys weren't on the bus; they waved goodbye to Chen Muyang and Song Yiran with enthusiastic smiles.
"Hey Shepherd, let's play ball tomorrow! Goodbye, Sister Muyang!"
Song Yiran turned her head and smiled, "Bye-bye."
The bus was crowded, and it was a hot day, so Song Yiran kept squeezing towards the back, her sticky arms touching each other.
Chen Muyang followed her to the back of the car, where there were fewer people and seats available.
Song Yiran muttered, "There's plenty of space behind us, why don't we move back a bit..."
After she sat down by the window, Chen Muyang quickly sat down next to her.
He leaned back in his car seat, expressionless, noticing the gazes of some people. He frowned, giving a disapproving look to a few who were staring at them. Their eyes quickly shifted away.
"Your friends are hilarious," she said, turning her head to him. "Are they telling the truth?"
"I don't remember, I really don't remember," he drawled.
"What does that guy they're talking about look like? Is he handsome?"
"Generally speaking, it looks like a flounder."
Song Yiran chuckled. "What? Isn't it a bit inappropriate to talk about others like that?"
"That's what everyone in the class thinks..."
"What about that girl?"
"It's just so-so."
"You didn't tell me that."
Chen Muyang scratched his head. "I don't know how to tell you."
Song Yiran smiled, her eyebrows curving upwards, taking in his somewhat embarrassed expression, and gave a reproachful "humph".
The car occasionally drove over uneven sections of road, causing some bumps in the ride.
Chen Muyang took the opportunity to secretly hold her hand and place it between the two chairs.
She was slightly taken aback.
"When the train arrives at the station, let it go," he said leisurely.
Song Yiran turned her head back to look at the scenery outside the window, but a smile played on her lips.
When they arrived at their destination, he released her hand and instead held her wrist.
"Your hands are sweaty," she said softly as she was being led by the hand.
Chen Muyang released her wrist, opened the parasol, and a faint blush appeared on his face.
She gently tugged at the hem of his t-shirt. "You won't be angry if I say your hands are sweaty, will you?"
"How could that be?" he chuckled.
Seeing that there weren't any familiar faces nearby, Song Yiran took his arm. "Won't our arms feel sticky like this?"
He shook his head. "It's okay, you can keep hooking it. I like it."
