Chapter 13

I glanced down at Jia Ni in my arms and realized she had fallen asleep so quickly. No wonder; the little girl had run all the way here in the rain from home, she must be exhausted. I lovingly picked her up and touched her forehead. It was an unconscious action, but the touch startled me, and I exclaimed, "Wow, so hot!"

I had felt her body was warm from the beginning, but I had assumed it was because Jia Ni had just taken a hot bath. It turned out she had a fever.

Yingying and Ruolan, who were already heading outside, were startled and immediately joined Yu Mei around me, touching Jia Ni's forehead in surprise. Yu Mei exclaimed, "That's quite a fever! Ruolan, go quickly and see if there's any fever reducer at home."

"Okay, I'll go right now," Ruolan said hurriedly, running across the street.

I frowned and patted Jiani in my arms, softly calling, "Jiani, Jiani, wake up, don't sleep." Jiani didn't respond. I was startled and quickly shook her, my voice rising, "Jiani, Jiani, wake up!" Jiani uttered a soft murmur, still not fully awake. My heart leaped into my throat. Jiani was clearly not asleep, but had fainted from a high fever.

I looked up at the dark sky outside the window; it was still raining heavily. I turned to Sister Yumei and said urgently, "Sister Mei, quickly find me a raincoat. I need to get Jiani to the hospital immediately."

Sister Yumei was also panicked and hurriedly ran into the house, Yingying following to help search. Just then, Ruolan returned with the fever reducer. Seeing that Yumei and Yingying were gone, she hurried to pour water, but I stopped her, saying, "Ruolan, don't bother. It seems Jiani's fever isn't just a common cold; she's delirious. Don't give her the fever reducer; I'll take her to the hospital right away."

Ruolan was stunned. "To the hospital?" I nodded. Ruolan stared blankly at Jiani in my arms, then suddenly turned and ran across the street. I didn't care about her anymore. I put Jiani on the sofa and hurriedly put on my rain boots, anxiously urging Yumei and Yingying to hurry. Oh dear, the more anxious you are, the more the heavens seem to play tricks on you. We usually use umbrellas when it rains; I've long since put my raincoat somewhere. Finding it now is really difficult.

"Oh dear, finally found it, but this raincoat is a bit too small." Sister Yumei and Yingying had struggled quite a bit before finally finding the raincoat, which hadn't been used in a long time, in a corner of the wardrobe. But as she said, it was indeed a bit small. However, I didn't have time to say anything to them at that moment. I grabbed the raincoat, wrapped it around Jia Ni, and then rushed downstairs with Jia Ni in my arms. Sister Yumei and Yingying originally thought the raincoat was for me, and seeing me rush out like that, they were anxiously stamping their feet behind me, but I couldn't care less. It

was still pouring rain outside. My heart was with Jia Ni, and without thinking, I rushed into the dark, rainy night. The rain was really heavy. I hadn't run more than a few steps when I felt the rainwater pouring down from my head blurring my vision, making it almost impossible for me to see the road ahead. Moreover, the playground was flooded, turning my jog into a brisk walk with one foot in the deep water and the other in the shallow water. Raindrops pounded against my face, streaming down my cheeks and neck, chilling me to the bone.

"Uncle Liu, wait for me!" Ruolan's voice came from behind. I turned and saw a blurry figure running towards me through the rain.

In just a short while, I was completely soaked, unable to see more than a meter ahead. I called out to the figure, "Ruolan, what are you doing here? It's raining so hard, you should go back..."

"Uncle Liu... wait for me..." Ruolan ran towards me, panting. When she reached me, I noticed she was holding an umbrella in one hand and a flashlight in the other. She ran up to me, shielding my head from the rain with her umbrella. Before I could speak, she urged, "Uncle Liu, let me hold the umbrella for you. Let's go straight through that alley next to the school; it'll be closer..."

This wasn't the time for idle chatter, and I didn't have time to say anything. I glanced down at Jia Ni in my arms, turned, and hurried out of the school. Ruolan jogged alongside me, her umbrella providing much-needed shelter and making me feel much better, while also allowing me to see the road ahead.

In the pitch-black night, the flashlight beam only illuminated a short distance, and Ruolan and I walked briskly, one foot higher than the other. There was hardly a soul on the street, let alone a taxi; I guessed all the taxi drivers were home with their wives at this hour. Fortunately, the streets weren't flooded, and Ruolan and I ran all the way to the nearby hospital. Luckily, the hospital wasn't too far; we arrived in about twenty minutes.

I practically kicked open the door to the hospital's duty room. My face was soaked with rain, and I couldn't see clearly who was inside. I only vaguely saw two girls who looked like nurses chatting. They jumped in fright at my sudden intrusion. At that moment, I didn't have time to apologize. I shouted, "Where's the doctor? My daughter needs to see the emergency room. She has a high fever and has fainted."

"Don't worry, bring your daughter to the emergency room with me." One of the girls seemed more experienced and quickly recovered. She gestured for me to follow her while instructing the other girl, "Xiaoyu, go and notify Dr. Luo." The nurse, who seemed to be a very young girl, agreed and ran past me.

Ruolan and I hurriedly followed the nurse to the emergency room. Ruolan and the nurse simultaneously helped unwrap the raincoat from Jia Ni's body. The nurse touched Jia Ni's forehead and was shocked: "Ah? She has such a high fever!"

"Where's the doctor? Why isn't the doctor here yet?" I anxiously asked, placing the burning-hot Jia Ni on the emergency room bed.

The nurse walked towards the door, saying, "Don't worry, Dr. Luo should be here soon."

I stamped my feet in frustration, silently praying, "Jia Ni, please don't let anything happen to you."

A series of hurried footsteps echoed down the corridor, and a doctor-looking man and several nurses entered. The nurse who had gone out to fetch someone was among them. Seeing Jia Ni lying on the bed, the doctor asked me a few questions, then instructed the nurses to get to their posts—taking temperatures, measuring heart rates, preparing IV equipment—they seemed quite well-trained.

Ruolan and I were "asked" to leave the emergency room. Through the blurry frosted glass, we couldn't see anything inside, which made us even more anxious. We paced back and forth in the corridor.

"Sir, don't worry too much. Your daughter will be alright." The nurse who had startled me earlier, acting on the doctor's orders, led us out of the emergency room. Seeing our anxious state, she couldn't bear it any longer: "There's no use in you just worrying here. There's a heater in the duty room. Let me take you there to dry your wet clothes. Otherwise, the little girl inside isn't better yet, and you two will get sick too." Hmm

, this nurse is quite kind. I turned to look at her; she was a rather young girl, probably around Ruolan's age. Her appearance was rather ordinary, not particularly beautiful, but she had a really good heart. At that moment, I suddenly noticed that Ruolan's clothes were also half-wet. Although she wasn't soaked to the bone like me, she probably wasn't feeling well either. Girls' bodies are much more delicate than boys'; wearing wet clothes for a long time can easily make them sick. The nurse's words make a lot of sense.

I looked up at Ruolan and said, "Ruolan, this nurse is right. You should go with her to the duty room to dry your clothes. Don't let Jiani get sick before you do." "

Uncle Liu, I'm not very wet, it's alright. Uncle Liu, you're soaked, you go dry your clothes first."

This girl was clearly feeling unwell but was still being stubborn. I put on a stern face and said, "Look, your lips are even turning blue. You still say you're fine? How can your health compare to mine? Listen to me, go with this kind nurse to dry your clothes." Ruolan hesitated and didn't move. I urged, "Go quickly, I'll dry mine after you're done." Only then did Ruolan reluctantly follow the nurse.

Watching her slender back, I sighed inwardly, "This girl has grown up and knows how to care for others." Just now, I was only thinking about getting to the hospital quickly and hadn't noticed what was happening around me. Now that I think about it, Ruolan must have exposed most of her shoulders to the rain while trying to shield me from it. This girl is really something.

Time passed by, and the situation inside the emergency room was still unknown. I could only see figures moving around inside, and my anxiety grew. A cool breeze carrying moisture blew in through the crack in the door at the end of the corridor. Still soaking wet, I shivered and sneezed three times. As I rubbed my nose, Ruolan and the nurse returned from warming themselves by the fire. Ruolan said urgently, "Uncle Liu, go dry your wet clothes! I'll keep an eye on things here."

I glanced at the emergency room; it seemed there wouldn't be any results anytime soon. I thanked the nurse and went to the duty room to warm myself by the fire. Wow, my clothes were so wet I could wring water out of them! I locked the duty room door, took off my wet clothes, and held them to my hands to dry. Sitting next to the heater was really warm; the cold and uncomfortable feeling was instantly replaced by a warm, spring-like sensation. However, my heart was still heavy with worry about Jiani's condition.

It was so frustrating! I had dried my clothes, but the emergency room door still hadn't opened. As time passed, Ruolan and I grew increasingly heavy-hearted. I felt a weight on my chest, making it hard to breathe. Time slipped by quietly, and after what seemed like an eternity, the emergency room door opened. Dr. Luo, looking weary, emerged. Ruolan and I rushed to greet him, urgently inquiring about Jiani's condition.

Dr. Luo sighed and said, "Don't worry, she's much better now." He looked at me and said, "Your daughter's coma was caused by acute pneumonia. This condition can be quite dangerous if not treated promptly, but with timely treatment, there are generally no major problems, so you can rest assured. When your daughter arrived, she had a high fever of 39 degrees Celsius. After IV fluids, it has now dropped below 38 degrees Celsius. Although she still has a slight fever, it's not a serious issue. However, just to be on the safe side, I suggest you keep her in the hospital for observation for two days."

"Doctor, thank you so much," I said sincerely. Although I generally don't have a good impression of doctors, the doctor and nurses I encountered today seemed quite nice. The doctor, surnamed Luo, waved his hand, indicating that there was no need for thanks. He gave me some instructions and then had a nurse lead Ruolan and me from the emergency room to a ward to settle us in. Looking at Ruolan's innocent little face on the hospital bed, a huge weight was lifted from my heart. Whew, thank goodness, nothing serious happened.

The ward wasn't large, with two beds side by side, a small coffee table in the middle, and nothing else. Ruolan sat beside Ruolan's bed, carefully tucking the blankets in and then meticulously smoothing Ruolan's bangs. It was the first time I'd seen Ruolan so attentive, and I couldn't help but marvel at it.

I glanced at the empty hospital bed, hesitated for a moment, and said softly to Ruolan, "Ruolan, you must be tired too. It's still raining heavily outside, and I'm worried about you going back alone. I think you should spend the night on that empty bed."

"Uncle Liu, what about you?" Ruolan looked up at me and asked softly, as if afraid of waking Jiani.

I glanced at Jiani's calm face and replied softly, "I'll just lean against the wall and take a nap."

Ruolan shook her head, hesitated for a moment, and bit her cherry lips, saying softly, "How can that be? You just got caught in the rain, and it's very cold at night. If you sit and nap like this, you'll definitely catch a cold. Uncle Liu, to be honest, I can't sleep on this hospital bed either, it's too creepy. I'll just sit and nap with you. We can just turn the blanket over and cover our upper bodies."

I thought about it again but couldn't think of a better solution. Besides, it was already past midnight, and there were only a few hours left until dawn, so I agreed to Ruolan's suggestion. I let Ruolan lie down fully clothed to sleep, while I sat up against the headboard, a corner of the blanket draped over myself.

Perhaps she was truly exhausted, for Ruolan soon began to snore softly. I, however, felt no sleepiness whatsoever. Staring at the dark, rainy night, I felt an emptiness in my heart. Unexpectedly, sweet memories of being with Ling surfaced in my mind, and I was hopelessly lost in reminiscence.

I don't know when I fell asleep. In a daze, I seemed to see Ling smiling gently as she walked towards me. But when I happily went to greet her, she brushed past me as if I were a stranger. I frantically called her name, but found I couldn't make a sound. I tried to reach out and grab her, but found my limbs were paralyzed. I watched Ling gradually disappear into the distance, a wave of fear and helplessness washing over me. I screamed uncontrollably, and then… I woke up. I was jolted awake by a nightmare, my face covered in sweat and feeling cold. I touched it and found it was streaked with tears.

"Uncle Liu, you're awake?" Ruolan's voice seemed to come from the other side of the bed. I didn't open my eyes, but I already sensed something was wrong. I realized I was lying on the bed with my head on the pillow, not sitting up against the headboard as before. I opened my sleepy eyes, the bright sunlight a bit dazzling. After a moment, my eyes adjusted to the light, and the scenery became clear. I saw Ruolan standing by the window, looking at me with surprise.

"Oh, it's already daylight? I was still half asleep!" I said, trying to cover up, as I sat up. I rubbed my eyes, secretly wiping away the tears on my face. But I was sure Ruolan had seen them. Sigh, I felt terrible for exposing my most vulnerable side to a girl like Ruolan. It wasn't because of any machismo or pride, but rather the innate human tendency to avoid showing our weaknesses.

"How is Jiani?" I asked, sitting on the bed and looking at Jiani on the other bed.

Ruolan replied softly, "Jiani is sleeping soundly, and her fever has completely subsided. It seems she's alright."

Hearing Ruolan's words, I was still a little worried. I got up and went to Jiani's bedside, touching her forehead and then my own, confirming that Jiani's fever was truly gone before I finally felt relieved.

I glanced at my watch; it was almost eight in the morning. The area outside the ward was getting noisy; it seemed quite a few people were coming to the hospital this morning. I looked out the window again. Last night it was stormy, but today the rain had stopped and the sky was clear. The weather is truly as unpredictable as life itself.

"Ruolan, I think Jiani will be awake soon. You stay here and watch her. I'll go and complete the hospital admission procedures." I instructed Ruolan and left the ward to complete Jiani's admission paperwork.

The weather is changing drastically, making people more susceptible to illness. This morning, there were quite a few people coming to the doctor; queues were everywhere, especially for blood tests, where the line stretched from the blood drawing room all the way to the hospital gate. The three payment windows also had long queues, so I had to slowly wait my turn. Every time I see scenes like this, the thought pops into my head: there are just too many people in China!

Finally, it was my turn. After paying and completing the procedures, I checked my watch and realized that even this simple procedure had taken nearly forty minutes. These crowds are really making things difficult!

However, the hospital's fees are really not cheap. Without saying a word, I had to pay a 1,500 yuan deposit for hospitalization. Luckily, I had just withdrawn some money from the bank yesterday, otherwise I really wouldn't have brought that much money. Speaking of which, I originally wanted to use this money to take Sister Yumei, Ruolan, Yingying, and Yashi shopping this weekend and buy them some clothes and cosmetics. Now it seems that plan will have to be postponed.

"Hey? Sister Mei, why are you here so early in the morning? By the way, why are you standing at the door instead of going in?" When I returned to the ward after completing Jia Ni's admission procedures, I saw Sister Yumei, Yingying, and Ruolan standing at the ward door talking.

Sister Yumei pointed into the ward and whispered, "Sister Yuxiu is here too, she's talking to Jiani." I suddenly understood, and listened intently. I heard soft sobbing coming from the ward. Sister Yumei explained gently, "On my way to the hospital, I told Sister Yuxiu everything. I think after this experience, there won't be any more misunderstandings or estrangement between them." I nodded gently and stopped talking, listening carefully with them to the sounds coming from the ward. About

ten minutes later, the ward door opened. Miao Yuxiu, with red eyes, opened the door. Jiani, sitting on the bed leaning against the headboard, also had red and swollen eyes, and tear stains on her face. Clearly, both mother and daughter had been crying. While wiping her eyes, Miao Yuxiu thanked me, saying, "Teacher Liu, I really don't know how to thank you and Sister Yumei."

"Why are you being so polite? Isn't that too formal?" I glanced at Jia Ni on the hospital bed and said softly, "Although you and Jia Ni had a little turmoil and an accident, I think it's not necessarily a bad thing. Just like the weather after the rain, the misunderstandings and estrangement between you and Jia Ni should be completely cleared up, right?"

Miao Yuxiu looked at her daughter and nodded, saying, "It's all my fault. Before, I was only strict with Jia Ni, completely ignoring her own feelings and neglecting to care for her in other ways. I'm really not a good mother."

"Mom, it's not entirely your fault. I also have my shortcomings." Jia Ni looked at her mother on the hospital bed and said sincerely, "Mom, you will always be my best mother. No one can replace you."

"Jiani..." "Mom..." The mother and daughter held hands tightly, gazing deeply into each other's eyes, tears of emotion welling in their eyes. Their hearts, once estranged by misunderstandings and misunderstandings, were reunited. Seeing this heartwarming scene, Yu Mei, Ruolan, Yingying, and I also had tears in our eyes, deeply moved by the profound love between mother and daughter. Romantic and sweet love is priceless, but isn't deep family affection equally priceless?

Two weeks passed in the blink of an eye. On November 19th, while having lunch, a news report on television caught my attention: "...After four games, world chess champion Garry Kasparov and his computer opponent, x3d-fritz, reached a draw, with the final result being one win, one loss, and two draws."

"x3d-fritz possesses powerful computing capabilities, capable of calculating 5 million moves per second. It is equipped with Fritz chess software, currently the most advanced chess software developed by a German company. This computer also uses x3d virtual technology developed by an American company, making the game feel like a real-world environment. Kasparov wore 3D glasses throughout the game, allowing him to perceive himself playing on a real chessboard. The computer's voice recognition technology enabled Kasparov to move pieces without physically touching them, simply by verbally instructing them on how to move.

"Kasparov is considered the greatest chess player in history and is currently ranked number one by FIDE. He defeated IBM's Deep Blue in the 1996 man-machine chess match, but lost to an improved version of Deep Blue the following year." "Computers are getting more and more powerful, but we humans are also progressing. I know much more about computers now than I did six years ago..."

"That's amazing." Yi-jing happened to be having dinner at my house today. After hearing the news, she stopped eating and exclaimed with great emotion. Seeing me staring blankly with my chopsticks in hand, she asked curiously, "Uncle Liu, what's wrong?"

Ying-ying, her mouth full of food, mumbled, "Sister Yi-jing, don't mind my dad. He's been spacing out for no reason lately, he's practically become a 'space-time man.'" "Hey, this little girl actually called my deep thought 'space-time' and gave me the nickname 'space-time man,' how mean!"

"Hey, Ying-ying, you don't understand, do you? Your dad is playing the profound card, trying to attract girls." Ruolan chuckled, pursing her lips as she smiled at Yingying, "Haven't you noticed? Every time your father is lost in thought, Yashi stares blankly at him, her eyes glazed over, with an almost devout adoration on her face..." "

Sister Ruolan, you're teasing me again! When did I ever stare blankly?" Yashi blushed, embarrassed by Ruolan's teasing, and complained to Sister Yumei, "Aunt Mei, look, Sister Ruolan is bullying me again..."

Sister Yumei smiled knowingly, gently comforting Yashi for a moment, then jokingly scolded Ruolan and Yingying, "You two girls are really outrageous! How can you be such daughters?" The

two girls paid no attention to Sister Yumei's words, continuing their playful banter and winks. I was used to this kind of bickering; Xiaoyan wasn't here today, and if she were, it would be even more lively. As for Zhang Yijing, although she came to my house very frequently, she was older than the others, so she usually just watched from the sidelines.

"Uncle Liu, did you have some feelings after watching the news earlier?" Yijing's attention wasn't distracted by Yingying and Ruolan's banter; she still hadn't forgotten to ask me her question.

I nodded, looked up, and said, "Yijing, do you know what I'm thinking? You'll never guess. Let me tell you, after the news of Kasparov's first match against Deep Blue was sensationalized a few years ago, I've had this idea—you know, I really like Go—and I thought, when will we hold a human-machine Go match for others to see? Actually, I've always disagreed with the excessive hype from some domestic news media. Why?" "Chess is so simple, how can it compare to Go? Aren't you IBM supposed to be amazing? Why don't you create a 'Deep Blue' that can beat our professional Go 9-dan players? If you actually created one, that would be truly impressive, Yi-jing, don't you think?"

"Oh, Uncle Liu, your idea is really surprising." Yi-jing's expression was exaggerated; this girl also liked to joke with me. Seeing that I glared at her, Yi-jing's expression turned serious as she said, "Uncle Liu, what you said makes a lot of sense. In terms of algorithmic complexity, chess and Go are not even in the same league. I estimate that even in ten or twenty years, there might not be a Go program like Deep Blue or X3D-Fritz that can compete with humans, because the variations in Go are just too complex, and the algorithm is extremely difficult to write." After

a slight pause, she continued, "There's a professor surnamed Chen at Sun Yat-sen University who has been dedicated to researching Go algorithms, but it seems he hasn't made much progress." Although his "HandTalk" is a very famous Go program, its playing strength is really too poor. It's said that it can only reach the fourth or fifth kyu level at most, which is far from the level of a professional player. So if we want to see a top-level match like Kasparov's against x3d-fritz in the world of Go, we'll probably have to wait patiently for decades. "

Decades?" I shook my head with a smile and said, "I'm afraid I'll be in my grave by then and won't be able to see it."

"If you can't see it, you can't see it. There's nothing to regret." Yingying interjected, "Dad, really, with Chinese Go in such a bad state, you're still so obsessed with it. I'm really impressed."

This girl picks up witty remarks quickly, but what she said makes sense. Chinese Go has truly reached its lowest point in history. Take this month's events, for example: first, Xie He and Hu Yaoyu, who were highly anticipated by the nation, both lost by half a point in the semifinals of the 8th Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Cup World Go Open, watching helplessly as Japanese and Korean players advanced to the finals; then, Chinese players suffered consecutive defeats in the 9th Nongshim Cup World Team Go Championship, leaving only their head coach, Gu Li, as the sole remaining player.

When reporting on these consecutive defeats, domestic news media unanimously used the word "shameful," which is truly not an exaggeration.

"Sigh, so disappointing..." I could only sigh with a bitter smile at Yingying's cold words. Japanese and Korean Go players can still win world championships in their forties and fifties, while our players basically fade into obscurity in their thirties. This reflects a very serious problem: domestic Go players are generally not disciplined, indulgent, and lack ambition, so it is not surprising that they eventually become collectively weak.

"Alright, alright, let's eat, let's not talk about this unpleasant topic." Seeing my somewhat listless expression, Sister Yumei quickly changed the subject with a smile, asking Yijing, "Yijing, I don't think I've heard you talk about your mother much. How is she doing lately?"

"My mom? She's still the same, except for some anemia, she doesn't have any major health problems." Yijing replied with a smile, "Aunt Mei, do you know why I rarely talk about my mother?" Sister Yumei shook her head with a smile, and Yijing smiled and continued, "I generally rarely talk about my mother in front of others because she has a rather strange temper. She always thinks the worst of people, so I basically never bring my friends home, because she's easy for people to misunderstand."

"Oh, is that so? I haven't heard of that." Sister Yumei said with some surprise.

Yingying asked curiously, "Sister Yijing, is your mother a very powerful person?"

Hearing Yingying's childish question, Yijing couldn't help but laugh, "No, not really. My mom is a very kind person, but she always seems to judge people with prejudice." Yijing's amusing explanation made us all laugh, and lunch ended amidst our laughter. After lunch

, as usual, Sister Yumei and Yashi cleaned up the mess, while Ruolan and Yingying, those two lazybones, settled in front of the computer, wandering aimlessly online, occasionally doing silly things, like harassing girls on qhqh or flooding some pointless forum with irrelevant chatter. I was truly impressed by them. As for Yijing, it wasn't that she was lazy and didn't want to help; rather, she had another important task: to use the lunch break to guide me, the newbie, to level up quickly.

"Good heavens, Uncle Liu, you're so bad at this it's dizzying!" Seeing my simple C program for calculating the Fibonacci sequence report a bunch of compilation errors, Yi Jing exclaimed dramatically behind me, causing Ruolan and Yingying to giggle. I glared at her, annoyed, before Yi Jing, suppressing a laugh, pointed out, "Uncle Liu, just move the function definition above."

I tried it as she suggested, and sure enough, it compiled successfully. Pressing F5 to run it, everything was OK. Although it was a very simple program, it still felt very rewarding for a programming novice like me. I think every beginner feels similarly when running their first program (usually a "hello, world!" program).

Recently, under Yi Jing's guidance, I've become quite proficient at using MATLAB to calculate various stock indicators and plot trend curves to analyze stock price movements. MATLAB software is really great. It allows me to easily calculate custom stock indicators and plot custom curves, which is crucial for my research on mathematical models of stocks.

However, while MATLAB is powerful, it also has its shortcomings. For example, its programmability is somewhat lacking, making it difficult to implement very complex algorithms. That's why I asked Yijing to teach me C++ programming. Of course, what I want to learn is only how to implement a specific algorithm in C++. As for things like the program interface and message responses, they are not my concern, because these things cannot be understood in a short time, and they are not useful for my research.

"Yijing, why is it that simply moving the function definition in a certain place solves the problem, while before there were so many compilation errors?" After briefly savoring my sense of accomplishment, I turned around and asked.

Yijing stopped laughing and patiently explained to me, "This is actually a very simple problem. Almost all programming language compilers require that the declaration of a function be known before calling it. Otherwise, it will report a bunch of errors like we just saw, because it doesn't know how to push the function's parameters onto the stack. Because the compiler only needs to know the function declaration, we don't need to move the function definition above it like before; we can simply add a function declaration above it, and that will solve the problem..."

"Stop, stop, stop..." I was completely bewildered and hurriedly interrupted Yijing, "What declaration? What push? Just add a sentence, explain it clearly."

Seeing my anxious look, Yijing couldn't help but laugh, "Uncle Liu, don't rush, let me explain slowly..." She paused slightly, organized her thoughts, and continued, "Uncle Liu, I've already explained the stack to you before. Pushing means that before calling a function, the relevant parameters need to be pushed onto the stack, so it's generally called pushing. And a function declaration is just a description of the function's parameters and calling convention, like this..." Yijing explained and demonstrated to me.

"Oh dear, Yijing, this stuff is really hard to understand. You've explained so much, but I still only vaguely understand." Yijing had gone to great lengths, demonstrating and explaining, but I still didn't fully understand, and I couldn't help but feel frustrated.

Yijing smiled and comforted me, "Uncle Liu, don't worry, you'll understand eventually. Uncle Liu, don't take my joke seriously. Actually, you're doing very well. When I first started programming on the computer, I was completely clueless and didn't know what to do..."

"Sister Yijing, you were that bad at it too?" Yingying, who was standing next to me, asked with amusement after hearing Yijing recount her embarrassing experience.

Yijing nodded with a charming smile, "Yes, I had never touched a computer before college. Do you think I wouldn't be clueless the first time I used one? But I wasn't the worst in the class, because some people could only manage a few lines of code in a whole class to write 'hello, world!'" "Your program didn't even compile, while mine at least runs."

"That's terrible! Probably as bad as Dad." Hey, why is Yingying always picking on me? I glared at her, annoyed. "You little brat, can't you ever say anything nice? I remember last week when we went shopping, I bought you the most things. Tell me, did I treat you badly or what? Why are you making your old man look bad?" Yingying made a face at me, giggling without answering. I laughed and scolded, "You little devil, hurry up and go to school, are you looking for a scolding?"

"Yes, yes, yes, my dear father," Yingying said in a strange, dramatic voice, like a theatrical performer. I shook my head, amused and exasperated, ignoring her, and instead called Yijing to continue explaining the "pointers" in C++.

In C or C++, pointers are a language feature that many beginners find very frustrating, and I was no exception. Yijing explained it to me for a long time, but my head was still a complete mess. I could only wave my hand at Yijing and say, "Yijing, it's about time. Let's stop here for today. My head is still a mess. I'll read some more books tonight, and you can explain it to me properly tomorrow."

Yi Jing smiled and nodded, saying, "Uncle Liu, hands are indeed a bit difficult to understand. It's best to practice more while you're reading. The more you use them, the more familiar you'll become." I nodded, and Yi Jing looked up at the wall clock before saying, "Uncle Liu, I have something to do this afternoon, so I'll head back now."

I stood up and grabbed my coat, saying, "I need to go to the convenience store to buy two batteries. I'll come downstairs with you."

"Okay." Yi Jing nodded, then said goodbye to Ruolan and Sister Yumei before leaving with me. As we went downstairs, I asked her, "Yi Jing, what have you been doing on your part-time job lately? I don't think you've mentioned it before."

"Oh, the company I'm currently working for is a small online game company with about twenty people. From what I can tell, everyone there is very capable and has the potential to create excellent online games. It's just that they're a bit strapped for cash, which is affecting the quality and progress of the game development..." Yi Jing explained with a smile. "The main reason I took this job is because I think there are a lot of skilled people there, and I can learn a thing or two from them..."

I gave a soft "oh" and changed the subject to chat with her, since I didn't know much about online games.

"Uncle Liu, I'm going back to the bar now." Yi Jing and I parted ways at the school gate. She walked towards the bar, while I looked up at the gray sky. The weather was gloomy today, with a light breeze and a low temperature, making it feel rather cold.

I hunched my shoulders and started walking towards the convenience store. Just then, a red taxi stopped at the school gate, and a tall woman stepped out. I stopped and curiously observed this rather strange-looking woman a few meters away. She was wearing a thick down jacket, making her look slightly bulky; her head was wrapped in a blue headscarf, her mouth and nose were covered by a mask, and she was also wearing black sunglasses, completely concealing her face.

"Why wear sunglasses in this cold weather? That's strange," I muttered to myself, but then I saw the woman walking towards me, so I stood still. Just then, a black sedan quietly drove up and stopped behind the red taxi. The rear window was rolled down a crack, and a dark, tubular object emerged from the car.

A tubular object? As I was shifting my gaze away from the car, a thought suddenly flashed through my mind. Almost instinctively, I widened my eyes and looked again. What I saw shocked me. My head went blank for a moment, because the tubular object protruding from the car window looked exactly like the barrel of a pistol.

In broad daylight, was I mistaken? Was this a movie shoot? Or a Hong Kong police thriller? I rubbed my eyes, trying to see more clearly, but my eyes clearly told me I wasn't mistaken. At that moment, the strange woman walked up to me and asked, "Excuse me..."

Almost as soon as she spoke, I realized who the black barrel was aimed at. I didn't hear what the woman said, but I vaguely saw the black barrel tremble slightly. Instinctively, I took a step forward and shoved the woman hard. There were no gunshots, only the scream of a woman falling to the ground. But almost simultaneously, I felt a sharp pain in my chest, as if something had pierced my body, and then I felt something warm flowing out.

Staring blankly at the blood flowing from my chest, my mind went blank. I heard the sound of a car starting, the scream of a woman not far away, and what sounded like Yi Jing's scream in the distance. I wanted to turn around and look in Yi Jing's direction, but it felt as if all the strength had been drained from my body; I couldn't even perform this simple action. I felt my consciousness becoming increasingly blurred, and my vision became chaotic. In a daze, I seemed to see Ah Ling smiling and waving at me not far away.

"Ah Ling, are you here to pick me up?" My body suddenly lurched forward, and then I completely lost consciousness...

"Where am I? Why is it so dark?" I don't know how much time had passed, but my consciousness suddenly returned. I found myself in a pitch-black tunnel, surrounded by darkness, with only a faint ray of light shining through at the far end of the tunnel.

Like a lone traveler wandering in the darkness suddenly seeing a light, this faint glimmer gave me immense hope, and I ran towards it. Oh, this tunnel is really long! I ran and ran, I don't know how long I ran, but the light gradually became brighter and more dazzling. When I finally reached the end of the tunnel, I realized that the light was a dazzling white beam. Instantly, joy filled my body, because I saw Ling standing at the end of the tunnel, smiling and looking at me.

"Ling, were you waiting for me?" I rushed forward and embraced Ling. Ling nestled gently in my arms as always. I held Ling tightly, murmuring, "Ling, we're finally together again. Nothing can separate us anymore."

Ling gently pulled away from my embrace, looked at me, and shook her head slightly. I was stunned, staring at her blankly. Ling gazed at me with the same tender affection, and said softly, "Lin, now is not the time for us to reunite. You must return to your original world because you still have a very important mission to complete."

"A very important mission? Me? What is it?" I was completely bewildered. A very important mission? Did she want me to save the whole world? Don't be ridiculous.

As if reading my mind, a knowing smile appeared on Ling's beautiful face. She said gently, "Everyone's existence has its own special meaning, and everyone carries their own different mission. You will understand later. Lin, go back in peace, take care of our daughter… and every woman who loves you…"

"Ling? You…" I stared incredulously at Ling's smiling, as beautiful face as ever, my heart churning like a stormy sea.

Ling leaned in and gently kissed my stiff cheek, softly saying, "Lin, did I scare you?" I stiffly shook my head. Ling whispered, "Lin, we'll meet again in fifty years. Then you'll understand everything. Now let me take you back." She then pushed me, causing me to stumble and fall. When I got up, I found my surroundings completely changed. Ling and the tunnel had vanished. I was about to scream when I suddenly heard sobbing from below.

"Dad...don't you love Yingying anymore...why won't you talk to me...just open your eyes and look at me...Dad..." Wasn't that my precious daughter Yingying's voice? I looked down, and sure enough, it was Yingying, sobbing softly beside the hospital bed, with Ruolan, Yashi, and others comforting her.

Wait, who's that ashen-faced guy lying on the bed? Why is my daughter Yingying calling him Dad? And where am I? I looked around in disbelief. Good heavens! I was floating on the ceiling! I couldn't see my hands or feet, and I couldn't feel my weight. Was I dead? I screamed, feeling myself plummet from the ceiling, crashing straight onto the "me" on the hospital bed. I instinctively closed my eyes.

Huh? It seemed like nothing had happened. Huh, it felt like my body was back, because I felt a cool sensation on my face. I tried moving my right hand; it felt so real. What was happening? Before I could figure out what was going on, a girl's excited voice rang in my ears: "Yingying, don't cry! I saw your dad's hand move just now."

"Huh? Really?" The surprised voice rang in my ears, and Yingying's crying stopped abruptly. I tried to move my left hand again, and the surprised voice rang in my ears again: "It moved...it moved...I saw it too...it's the left hand..." "Yes

, yes, yes, it's the left hand, I saw it too..."

"Xiaoyan...go call the doctor..."

"Okay, okay, okay...doctor...doctor..." The sound of running footsteps faded into the distance, and I opened my eyes with a lot of doubt.

"Dad...you're awake..." The first thing I saw was Yingying's delicate face, like a pear blossom in the rain, her eyes red and swollen, tears welling in the corners. Perhaps from overwhelming excitement, Yingying's lips were trembling.

Before I could even speak, several other faces, filled with surprised and bewildered expressions, crowded in front of me, their eyes also glistening with tears. I slightly moved my slightly numb neck and looked at them one by one. It was Ruolan, Jiani, Yashi, and a somewhat familiar girl. Oh, I remember now, she's Yingying's classmate and best friend, Lin Wanzhen. She even visited our house during the National Day holiday this year.

"The doctor's here! Make way! How's Dad?" It was Xiaoyan's urgent voice. Then I saw her flushed face squeeze in front of me. Seeing me staring at her, she said urgently, "Godfather, it's me, Xiaoyan! Don't you recognize me?"

Of course I recognized her! I had just experienced something so bizarre and strange that my mind was still a little foggy. I was still replaying the scene of my meeting with Ling in my mind. I'm an atheist, so was I hallucinating? If it was a hallucination, then how come I was floating on the ceiling? How could I see Yingying crying by the bedside?

"Dean Wang, please come quickly! My dad is awake, but he doesn't seem to be able to speak yet." With Yingying's tearful urging, Ruolan, Xiaoyan, and the others stepped aside, and an elderly man in his sixties and a nurse were pulled to my bedside. Wait, isn't this the kind nurse I met when Jia Ni was sick last time?

"Don't rush, let me take a look." The old doctor remained calm, reaching out to lift my eyelids and examine my pupils, then prying open my mouth to check my tongue. I thought to myself, "What are you doing?" I glared at him. Seeing my glare, he smiled and said to the nurse beside him, "Xiaoyu, take his temperature and blood pressure. He seems quite conscious; this is quite a miracle." A miracle? "Does it have to be death for it to be normal?"

"Uncle Liu, can you hear me? If you can, open your mouth so I can take your temperature," the nurse said gently.

I opened my mouth, eyeing her suspiciously. Oh, she's quite friendly. I don't think I know you. I only met you briefly when I brought Jia Ni to the hospital on that rainy night. Although I was full of questions, I couldn't speak because a thermometer was stuffed in my mouth. Looking at Yingying and the others anxiously surrounding the bed, I noticed that Yu Mei and Yu Yi weren't there. Sigh, I wonder how long I've been unconscious. I hope nothing bad happened while I was unconscious.

"Director, Uncle Liu's temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate are all normal. Do you think..." the nurse said to the old man.

It's unbelievable that this unassuming old man could become the hospital director. He nodded and said, "Hmm, immediately conduct a comprehensive physical examination on the patient. Perhaps we can find out why he can't speak."

"Are you cursing me? Who said I can't speak?" I finally couldn't help but utter my first words after waking up. It wasn't that I didn't want to speak before, but that I simply couldn't find the opportunity.

My words startled everyone. Yingying was the first to react, grabbing my arm and bursting into tears of joy, "Dad..." Then she couldn't speak anymore, and Jiani, Yashi, and the others beside her also shed tears.

"Don't cry, don't cry, Daddy's alright, isn't he?" Seeing Yingying's pale and haggard face, my heart ached. At the moment I was shot and fell, I thought I was going to die for sure. I never thought I would be so lucky to survive. It must be God's mercy.

I wonder who that woman was that day. Someone actually hired a gunman to take his life. Judging from her appearance, she was probably an official. Judging from the woman's attire and age, she seemed unrelated to money or love, so it could only be for power.

I'd heard stories before of deputy bureau chiefs and deputy secretaries hiring assassins to kill their superiors so they could get promoted; I never imagined I'd experience it firsthand. I wondered what kind of official that woman was. If she was corrupt, I'd be utterly wronged and filled with regret. But I didn't have time to think about that then; it was a completely subconscious action.

"Girl, don't cry. Let us give your father a thorough check-up, okay?"

Yingying nodded, tears welling in her eyes. Then, several people pushed me outside, and I realized I was sleeping on one of those wheeled mobile hospital beds. Taking this opportunity, I asked Ruolan, "Ruolan, is everyone alright while I was unconscious?"

"Oh dear, I almost forgot..." Ruolan's reaction surprised me, but she quickly put my mind at ease: "Uncle Liu, everyone is fine these past few days. I almost forgot if you hadn't asked. My mom and Aunt Liu stayed up all night watching over you, and I only managed to get them to go back to sleep at dawn. I'll go call them right now." Ruolan hurriedly ran off to make the call, and a weight was lifted from my heart, because my most cherished family members were all safe and sound.

"Yingying, what's the date today? How many days have I been unconscious?" I remember the day of the accident was November 19th, a Wednesday. Today, Yingying and Jia Ni are both here, so it must be the weekend. Based on that, I must have been unconscious for three or four days.

Before Yingying could answer, the nurse pushing the hospital bed behind me suddenly said, "Uncle Liu, today is already the 20th. You've been in a coma for a whole month."

"What?" I was startled and sat up abruptly. Being in a coma for a few days wasn't a big deal, but if it lasted a month, it was practically a "vegetative state," or what's medically known as a "vegetative state." No wonder the old man called it a miracle; I'd been in a coma for so long.

Seeing me sit up, everyone quickly helped me lie down again. The old man glared at the nurse, clearly annoyed that she'd been too hasty and spoken without thinking, startling me, the "patient." So I took the opportunity to ask the nurse behind me, "Nurse, I still don't know your name. I forgot to ask you last time."

"Huh?" Everyone stared at me as if they'd seen a ghost, as if they didn't recognize me. I asked, a little confused, "What's wrong? Did I say something wrong?"

"Uncle Liu, I remember you mentioned my sister. So you don't recognize her?" Xiao Zhen said with a smile, "I thought you all knew each other a long time ago."

It turned out that this little nurse was actually Xiao Zhen's sister, Lin Wanyu. No wonder the other doctors called her Xiaoyu, Xiaoyu. I remembered that when Xiao Zhen came to my house during the National Day holiday, she did mention that her older sister had just graduated from nursing school and been assigned to work as a nurse at a city hospital. I just didn't expect it to be such a coincidence: "This is really quite a coincidence, I really didn't expect it..." I was so happy that I wanted to sit up again, but Lin Wanyu behind me quickly pressed down on my shoulder: "Uncle Liu, you are still a patient, you can't move around casually."

Uh, being a patient is really not a pleasant experience. Although I feel fine, I still have to obediently undergo various tests. After all that, except for some items that don't have immediate results, the other indicators seem to be normal. This result reassured Yingying, who had been very nervous accompanying me through the tests. I think my accident this time scared her quite a bit.

Although everything seemed normal, the hospital's vice president Wang, the old man from earlier, who was in charge of my surgery, still asked me to minimize getting out of bed and wait until I was hospitalized for observation for a period of time.

"Huh? Why haven't Mom and Aunt Liu arrived yet? It's almost dark." Ruolan suddenly frowned and muttered to herself, "They were so eager to see me when I was unconscious, but now that I've finally woken up, they haven't shown up for so long. What are they up to?"

Although Ruolan spoke very softly, I heard her clearly. I couldn't help but frown slightly. From her tone, I could tell that during the month I was unconscious, Yumei and Yuyi must have been heartbroken and worried a lot. It's hardest to bear the kindness of a beautiful woman.

Chapter 14

"Dad, are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?" Ya Shi placed a pillow behind me, helped me sit up against the headboard, and asked softly. Her question only made things worse; my stomach immediately rumbled loudly, the rumbling so loud that even Ruolan, Xiaoyan, and Xiaozhen could hear it, and everyone chuckled. No wonder, having been kept alive by IV fluids for a whole month without food, my stomach was completely empty; how could it not rumble?

"Dad, what do you want to eat?" Jia Ni followed suit, calling me "Dad" directly.

Having not eaten a proper meal for a month, I was stumped by her question: "Let me think… what should I eat…" I thought blankly. Having not eaten a proper meal for a month, all I wanted at that moment was to sit in my own home and eat a simple, home-cooked meal. Perhaps because I had just returned from the brink of death, I felt an overwhelming longing for home.

"Bang..." Just then, the ward door was suddenly pushed open, and two people stumbled in. Everyone else in the ward and I were startled and looked over in surprise. We discovered that the two who had rushed in were none other than Yu Mei and Yu Yi, both panting heavily, almost out of breath. Yu Mei's down jacket was bulging out, making her look like a pregnant woman, which was quite comical.

But I couldn't laugh; instead, I wanted to cry. I saw Yu Mei and Yu Yi's haggard faces and their sunken eyes. I knew without asking that I was the one who had caused them to look like this, and my heart ached.

"Yu Lin, you're awake?" As if by telepathy, Yu Mei and Yu Yi said the same thing in unison. Although it was an utterly ordinary sentence, I could feel the deep affection between the two women. Suppressing my excitement, I silently nodded and reached out to grasp Liu Yuyi's hand. It was so cold.

At that moment, Ruolan suddenly said something very inappropriate. She softly complained to Yumei, "Mom, why did you take so long to come? The doctor already examined Uncle Liu, and everything is normal. Mom, what are you hiding in your clothes?"

"It's good that everything's alright, it's good that everything's alright." Yumei breathed a sigh of relief when she heard that my examination was fine, and then unzipped her down jacket. Now we could see that she had wrapped a thermos inside, obviously to prevent the low outside temperature from affecting its insulation.

Ruolan snatched it away, unscrewed the thermos cap, and an enticing aroma filled the entire room with the rising steam, making my empty stomach rumble again. Ruolan exclaimed "Oh!" and suddenly realized, "Mom, so you went to make porridge for Uncle Liu. No wonder you're only coming now. Oh dear, it's lotus seed porridge! Mom, you're so biased! You weren't this attentive when I was sick."

"Go away, go away, go away, what are you doing making such a fuss? Your Uncle Liu just woke up and shouldn't eat anything greasy, so your Aunt Liu and I hurriedly made this little bit of lotus seed porridge." Yumei scolded Ruolan with a laugh, snatching the thermos from her hand. She first picked up a spoon and tasted it herself, then nodded and said, "Hmm, it's still quite hot." As she spoke, she sat down by my bedside, smiling at me, and said, "You must be hungry, right? Come on, let me feed you some lotus seed porridge, otherwise it will get cold. Come on, open your mouth..."

I felt as if something was blocking my throat, and I couldn't say a word. Like a crying baby waiting to be fed, I obediently opened my mouth. Staring blankly at Yu Mei's haggard face, a pang of regret welled up inside me. To save a complete stranger, I had plunged my loved ones into despair. Was what I did right or wrong? I couldn't help but doubt myself.

"Is it hot?" Yu Mei fed me a spoonful of sweet lotus seed porridge, asking softly as she looked at me. At that moment, it seemed as if nothing else existed in her eyes but me. I forced back my tears, gently shaking my head. Although I could eat on my own, I couldn't refuse Yu Mei's indescribable affection. I knew I could never repay her kindness; perhaps it was my destiny to owe her for life.

Yu Mei fed me the porridge with utmost tenderness, while Yu Yi gently wiped away the few drops of porridge that trickled from my lips. What I was drinking wasn't just porridge; it was affection and love. In that instant, I felt like the happiest person in the world, an unprecedented sense of happiness filling every cell of my body. Perhaps moved by this incredibly heartwarming scene, the girls looked at us with deep emotion, as if petrified.

I had never felt so strongly that everything I already possessed and was possessing was so precious. Why had I overlooked the joy of having it before? Happiness is actually that simple; it's like a lone cloud emerging from a mountain peak, a bright moon hanging in the sky, like a small flower quietly exhaling its fragrance on a hillside. We possess it every moment, yet we ignore its existence. Desire blinds us; desire dulls our senses.

"You must still be hungry, right? Be patient. You haven't eaten in a long time; you can't eat too much at once," Yu Mei said gently to me, who still seemed to have more to say, after feeding me the porridge. I nodded silently; at that moment, all words seemed superfluous.

Ruolan took the empty bottle from her mother's hand, and only then did I have a chance to grasp Yu Mei's slightly cold hand. I looked at her, opened my mouth, but no sound came out. Yu Mei and Yu Yi, whose hands I held, seemed quite agitated, their eyes reddening. Sensing the unusual atmosphere between us, Ruolan quietly pulled Yingying, Xiaoyan, and the others away from the ward, leaving the three of us alone.

"Yu Lin, you scared us to death! I thought you were going to abandon us..." Seeing her children leave, Yu Mei finally couldn't hold back her emotions any longer and sobbed against my chest, while Yu Yi leaned against me, tears streaming down her face.

I felt a lump in my throat and pulled the two women close, repeatedly saying the same thing: "I'm sorry... it's my fault..." Holding their two familiar bodies, I felt a sense of déjà vu, and even more so, a deep sense of guilt towards them. In that instant of being shot, only Ah Ling came to mind. Was I a heartless man?

"Mei...Yi...I'm sorry...I'm sorry..." After leaving a series of passionate kisses on the two women's pale and delicate faces, I whispered their names tenderly in their ears. The two women nestled tightly against me, as if trying to merge their bodies with mine. We held each other quietly like that, feeling each other's body temperature and breath. Time seemed to stand still at that moment. My eyes could see nothing but the people in my arms.

After what seemed like an eternity, Yu Mei finally lifted her tear-streaked face from my embrace, and asked softly with a shy smile, "Yu Lin, do Yi Mei and I look terrible right now?"

I reached out and lifted their chins, then lowered my head and kissed each of them on the lips before saying with a heavy heart, "You two are so neglectful of yourselves. How did you become so haggard? When I saw you just now, I could hardly believe my eyes." Seeing that both of them had lowered their heads, I sighed softly, "I know, it's all my fault that you've suffered like this..."

"Yu Lin, you don't need to say anymore. You didn't do anything wrong." Yu Mei reached out and covered my mouth, looking at me gently, and said, "We were just too foolish. We should have believed that God wouldn't be so blind."

I shook my head inwardly. If there really was a God, there wouldn't be so many injustices in this world. Relying on God is not as good as relying on yourself. I suddenly felt a tightness in my chest and couldn't help but move my neck uncomfortably. The two girls quickly sat up from my arms. Yu Yi looked at me with concern and asked, "Yu Lin, are you feeling unwell somewhere?" "

Oh, it's nothing, I just suddenly felt a little tightness in my chest, but I'm fine now." I didn't want to see the two girls looking like they were facing a major crisis, so I said it casually.

Both women frowned upon hearing this. Yu Mei, her face filled with worry, said, "Yu Lin, your heart injury this time is quite serious. The doctor said you can't do any strenuous exercise in the future, and you also need to avoid extreme joy or sorrow, otherwise your heart might not be able to handle it."

"My heart is injured?" I touched my chest with some doubt, and indeed, there seemed to be a scar left from surgery.

Yu Mei gazed at my face and nodded gently, saying, "Yes, a bullet pierced your heart." After a slight pause, she continued softly, "When Yi Jing called us from the school gatehouse after the accident, Ruolan and I couldn't believe our ears. When we arrived at the school gate, we saw you covered in blood being carried into an ambulance. Ruolan and I were terrified. Luckily, Yingying had already gone to school. If she had seen you covered in blood, I don't know how heartbroken she would have been..."

"And then what happened?" Listening to Yu Mei recount the scene of my accident, I suddenly had a very strange feeling, as if the person she was talking about wasn't me.

Yu Mei gently stroked my face and continued, "Because of your severe heart injury and excessive blood loss, the doctors weren't optimistic when you were taken to the hospital. They thought your chances of survival were slim. Later, Vice President Wang personally performed the surgery, which lasted eight or nine hours. Because the hospital's blood bank was short of blood, Jia Ni and Ying Ying even gave you blood transfusions."

"You don't know how worried we were. When we heard about the transfusion, Ruo Lan, Yi Jing, Ying Ying, Ya Shi, and Xiao Yan all got their blood tested, but only Ying Ying's blood type matched. Later, Yu Yi, Jia Ni and her mother Yu Xiu, and Xiao Yan's mother Wan Qing all rushed over, but only Jia Ni's blood type matched. I was worried about you and the two girls."

I asked in surprise, "Why didn't anyone tell me about the blood transfusion before?"

Yu Yi said softly, "When they saw you wake up, the girls were overjoyed. They wouldn't have remembered to tell you all this."

Yu Yi sighed slightly and continued... He said, “Yu Lin, there’s a lot you don’t know. You probably can’t imagine that one of your legs has already trod the road to the underworld. On the afternoon of the second day after your surgery, you suddenly stopped breathing. After the doctors examined you, they declared you brain dead. We were all terrified and fainted, thinking you had really left us. Only Yingying didn’t believe you were really gone. She cried and begged the doctors not to stop the emergency treatment. Perhaps her sincerity moved the heavens, because you miraculously showed signs of spontaneous breathing again. Although you didn’t wake up immediately, at least we know you’re still alive…”

“I was declared brain dead by doctors?” I felt like the protagonist of a fairy tale. Recalling that memory before I regained consciousness, I couldn’t help but doubt my previous understanding. Is there really such a thing as the underworld? Do people really have souls that can leave their bodies after death and continue to exist? But one thing is certain: some inexplicable strange events did happen to me. No wonder that old man (Vice Dean Wang) said it was a miracle when I woke up.

Seeing my thoughtful expression, Yu Mei said softly, "Yu Lin, don't overthink it. Whether it's divine mercy or just good fortune, you've finally pulled through. But don't scare us like that again, it'll kill us..."

I nodded silently, tightening my grip on the two girls' hands, making a silent promise to them. I could understand Yu Mei's feelings when she said those words. In fact, I felt the same way. Having already experienced the blow of losing Ling, I couldn't bear the thought of losing anyone else.

Yu Mei smiled slightly, about to speak, when she caught a glimpse of Ruolan peeking in from outside the door. She couldn't help but laugh and scold, "If you want to come in, just come in. What are you doing, sneaking around at the door?"

"Hehe..." Ruolan chuckled dryly and led a group of maids in, handing Yu Mei a plastic bag containing two lunchboxes: "Mom, I took them out for dinner. This is for you and Aunt Liu." She was quite thoughtful.

I turned to look at the sky outside and realized it was already dark. Looking at the maids gathered around the bed, I said softly, "Xiaoyan, Jiani, Xiaozhen, it's getting late. You should go home early so your families won't worry. Yingying, Yashi, you two should go home and rest with Ruolan. You've suffered these past few days; look how thin you've become."

"Dad (Uncle Liu), we'll come see you again tomorrow." Xiaoyan, Jiani, and Xiaozhen were obedient and quickly left the ward with Xiaozhen.

Yashi was somewhat reluctant, but being always gentle, she didn't say anything. Yingying, however, refused to leave: "Dad, I won't leave! I want to stay with you. I won't let you leave me alone again..." Her voice was already trembling with tears. Looking at her pale face, I couldn't bring myself to say no, so I could only nod gently.

“Ya Shi, you’re a good girl. Go back and rest with your sister Ruo Lan. You don’t need to worry about Dad here.” I gently patted Ya Shi’s little hand and said softly.

Ya Shi nodded obediently, lowered her head and gently kissed my cheek, then said, “Dad, I’ll go back with Sister Ruo Lan first.” Then she said to Ying Ying and Yu Mei, “Mom, Aunt Mei, Ying Ying, I’m leaving Dad in your care.”

“Girl, with Mom and your Aunt Mei here, what are you worried about? You haven’t had a good night’s sleep these past few days. Listen to your dad, go back and get a good night’s sleep.” Yu Yi also held her daughter’s hand and said softly. Ya Shi nodded gently, then left the ward with Ruo Lan.

After Ruolan and the others left, Yingying immediately sat down next to me, oblivious to everyone else, and hugged my arm, saying sweetly, "Dad, I can finally talk to you alone! I've been so bored for the past month."

I glanced at Yumei and Yuyi, who were eating their boxed lunches nearby, and patted Yingying's back affectionately, saying softly, "Dad knows, it's all Dad's fault for making you suffer."

Yingying shook her head and whispered, "I don't care how much I suffer, Dad, I'm just afraid you'll never wake up again, and you'll never want Yingying again... Dad, I'm so scared..." Her voice choked up, and tears welled up in her still swollen eyes.

"Don't cry, don't cry..." I wiped away her tears and said softly, "Silly child, how could Dad bear to leave you behind..."

"Then promise me you won't do this kind of thing again, okay?" Yingying looked up at me sweetly, and I hesitated for a moment before nodding.

Yingying leaned against me and said softly, "Dad, don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying you should be a selfish person from now on. What I mean is that I hope when you want to help others in the future, you won't sacrifice yourself. Because I'd rather get hurt myself than see you get hurt again. Dad, I want you to know that I absolutely cannot bear the blow of losing you again; it would make me lose the will to live..."

"Yingying, I understand. You don't want Dad to get hurt, and Dad also hopes that you will never get hurt." I lowered my head and kissed her forehead, saying gently, "If your Aunt Mei and Aunt Liu hadn't told me just now, I wouldn't have known that you and Jia Ni had given me blood. No wonder your face is so pale."

"Hehe..." Yingying stopped crying and smiled softly, saying, "Dad, if the people at the hospital heard you say that, they'd laugh at us. I gave you a blood transfusion a month ago, and you've already recovered. My pale face is just because I haven't been resting well lately." She then whispered in my ear, "Dad, now my blood flows in your veins. Nothing can stop us from being together anymore, because our flesh and blood have become one, haven't they?"

I was speechless, stunned. Yingying simply took off her shoes, climbed onto me, and clung to me, refusing to get up. I looked to Yumei and Yuyi for help, but they both shrugged, making a gesture of helplessness.

“Dad, I don’t understand what you’re afraid of? Don’t you still accept me? What’s the point of me crying and begging you to wake up every day? If you want your daughter to be unhappy, you can just ignore me. I’ll just pretend you’re still unconscious.” Yingying’s words were like knives stabbing my chest. I felt a sharp pain in my heart, and my breathing became rapid.

“Dad, Dad, what’s wrong?”

“Yulin, what’s wrong?”

“Yingying…go call the doctor…”

Noticing my pale face, the three women panicked. I reached out and stopped Yingying, who was about to get out of bed to call the doctor, and waved my hand, saying, “I’m fine…it seems my heart isn’t what it used to be…”

“Dad, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have pressured you…” Yingying looked apologetic as she rubbed my chest. Seeing that I seemed alright, Yumei and Yuyi continued eating their boxed lunches with relief.

Gazing at Yingying's face, a clone of her mother's, I seemed to hear Ling's voice echoing in my ears: "...Take good care of our daughter..." Just as Yingying questioned, if coming back to life couldn't make her happy, what was the point of my life? Having already died once, I've become indifferent to everything. Fame, fortune, and power are meaningless to me. Making the most of each day and ensuring my loved ones' happiness is the meaning of my rebirth.

"Yingying, have you really thought this through? You need to understand that some things can't be undone," I asked seriously, looking at the beautiful girl in my arms.

Yingying's face sparkled with excitement and joy. Clever as she was, she had already sensed something from my words. She looked up at me, nodded solemnly, and said, "Dad, I've thought it over carefully. Even if society doesn't accept me, even if everyone condemns me, I have no regrets, because I believe loving someone isn't a sin."

"Dad, kiss me." Yingying closed her eyes, tilted her little face up, her rosy lips slightly parted, and her chest heaving.

Without the slightest hesitation, without time to consider what Yumei and Yuyi would think, my lips finally covered my daughter's little mouth. What about public opinion? What about ethics and morality? To hell with them! I closed my eyes too, savoring the throbbing and sweetness of the girl in my arms. A strange feeling of blood connection filled my heart, leaving it calm and clear, devoid of any desire or reverie.

"Is it beautiful?" I asked softly, looking at Yingying's heaving chest and flushed face.

Yingying nodded, then suddenly leaned in and gave me a big kiss on the lips. She then whispered in my ear, "Daddy, I love you!"

A mischievous urge struck me, and I feigned ignorance, asking, "What does 'love you' mean?"

"Dad, you're so naughty," Yingying said shyly, burying her face in my chest. Her girlish feelings were on full display, making Yumei and Yuyi giggle. The two women sat down on the edge of the bed, looking at Yingying in my arms with affection. No words were needed; a single glance was enough to express their feelings. Perhaps only they could accept this forbidden father-daughter relationship between Yingying and me with such peace of mind.

I gently patted Yingying's back, and soon she began to snore softly. Yumei said softly, "These past few days have really been tough on Yingying."

I nodded gently, looking down at Yingying's innocent little face in my arms, and couldn't help but sigh, "Fate, and tragedy!"

"Hey... can you two girls be a little quieter?" I called out to Yashi and Yingying, who were huddled together whispering and huddling, without looking up as I typed on the keyboard. They were really like a pair of little sparrows, so noisy.

Early this morning, Liang Xiaoyan, Liang Wanqing, and Miao Yuxiu and Jia Ni, two pairs of mothers and daughters, came to the hospital to see me. Not long after, Yashi, Ruolan, and Yijing also came, but they were all sent away before they even had a chance to sit down. It wasn't that I didn't appreciate their kindness, but I was fine now, so why waste their time? Let them go do what they need to do.

Even Yu Mei and Yu Yi were persuaded to leave by my kind words. Only Ya Shi and Ying Ying, those two little girls, used their unique, persistent charm to finally get me to let them stay. But even then, they weren't quiet, chattering away.

"Sorry, sorry..." Ying Ying said apologetically, and then their voices really quieted down.

I shook my head slightly, my fingers flying across the keyboard. Luckily, Ruolan had brought my laptop when she came to the hospital today, otherwise I would have been bored to death. I don't know if it's just my imagination, but I feel like my mind is exceptionally clear today. I flipped through some of the books Ruolan brought me earlier and found that some things that I didn't understand before suddenly became clear. It's

really strange. Could it be that my brain has become smarter after being in a coma for a month?

"Knock, knock, knock..." A crisp knock interrupted my thoughts. Everyone who was supposed to come had already come; who else would come to see me? I looked up at the door and said, "Come in."

The door to the ward was gently pushed open, and the face of a young, unfamiliar girl came into my view. My first reaction was that she had come to the wrong room: "Who are you looking for?"

"Sister Suxin..." Yingying jumped up happily and ran towards the door. Yashi also stood up, smiling at the girl at the door.

Hmm, why is Yingying calling her so affectionately? How does she know this girl?

Judging from Yashi's reaction, she seems to recognize this uninvited guest as well. There must be something strange about this. I straightened up and leaned against the headboard, scrutinizing the girl standing at the door with suspicion.

A pretty and beautiful face, clear black and white phoenix eyes, a small and cute nose, and alluring red lips combined perfectly, giving her an elegant and refined feeling. What a classy girl! I couldn't help but secretly admire her.

"Sister Suxin, Aunt Chang, come in quickly..." Yingying greeted the guests as they entered the house. Only then did I notice that there was someone following behind the girl. This person was familiar to me, and I was secretly surprised. I quickly greeted, "Principal, what brings you here? Please come in, please come in." It turned out that the person following behind the girl was Principal Chang Yuzhen, which really surprised me.

"Uncle Liu, you're finally awake! That's wonderful!" The beautiful girl was carrying something in both hands, which looked like some kind of tonic. To my surprise, she greeted me warmly as soon as she entered the house. I was a little confused: "Miss, you are..."

"Huh? Uncle Liu, didn't Yingying mention me to you?" The beautiful girl frowned slightly, then smiled again: "That's alright, let me introduce myself first. My name is Wu Suxin. I'm here on my mother's behalf to visit your savior, Uncle Liu. Uncle Liu, now you know who I am, right?"

"Oh, you are... Please sit down, please sit down..." I finally realized. I had almost forgotten about the woman who almost sent me to meet Marx. It turned out that the girl in front of me was her daughter.

I gestured for Wu Suxin and Chang Yuzhen to sit down. Ya Shi and Yingying, who were already obediently accepting the fruit and supplements from their hands, asked Chang Yuzhen, somewhat puzzled, "Principal, how come you came with this Miss Wu? Do you know each other before?" Hearing my question, both Chang Yuzhen and Wu Suxin laughed, a laugh that left me even more confused.

Chang Yuzhen explained with a smile, "You ask if we know each other? Well, let me tell you, I've watched Suxin grow up from birth. Do you think we know each other?"

I couldn't help but let out a soft "Ah," surprised that they not only knew each other but also had a deep connection.

Chang Yuzhen continued, "Yulin, you probably wouldn't believe it, but the person you saved that day was actually my best friend of many years. She actually came to the school to see me that day..."

The principal used to always call her "Little Liu," but it seems that because I saved her best friend, she's even changed how she addresses her.

"Oh, Principal, could you explain in more detail? I still don't quite understand. What exactly does your best friend, this Miss Wu's mother, do? How did she get targeted by a gunman? If I'm not mistaken, she should be an official, and a pretty high-ranking one at that, right?"

I voiced my doubts. Whether it was my tone or something else, Wu Suxin seemed to misunderstand me. Her face flushed, and she stood up, looking at me. "Uncle Liu, are you upset that my mother didn't come to visit you in person?"

"No, no, you misunderstand. I didn't mean anything by it. I'm just a little curious." I quickly waved my hand, gesturing for Wu Suxin to sit down.

As Wu Suxin sat down, she explained to me, “Uncle Liu, my mom and I received a call from Aunt Chang last night and learned that you had woken up, so I rushed over from the provincial capital early this morning. My mom was originally planning to come with me, but she was called away before we even left the house. She repeatedly told me to convey her apologies to you. To be honest, it's really heartless of my mom not to visit you even once during your long hospital stay; even I find it a bit hard to bear. Sigh… that's just the kind of person my mom is; she forgets everything else when it comes to work. But my mom said she will definitely thank you in person.”

“Oh, no need for that. Don't worry about it; I don't blame your mom at all.” If it were before, I might have been a little bothered by her mother's lack of compassion, but now that I've seen through life and death, how could I care about such a trivial matter? So I asked, "Young lady, what does your mother do for a living? And what does your father do?" Hearing my question, Wu Suxin's face suddenly darkened, and her mood seemed to plummet.

"Yulin, let me explain," Chang Yuzhen gently patted Wu Suxin's back and sighed softly. "Speaking of which, our two families' long-standing friendship dates back to Suxin's father and Wenxiu's father. They were classmates at police academy, and after graduation, they were both assigned to the criminal investigation team. Later, our two families became close friends. Yulin, you must know about Wenxiu's father's death in the line of duty six years ago, right?" I nodded slightly, realizing I had asked the wrong question and touched a sore spot.

Chang Yuzhen sighed softly and continued, "Wenxiu's father died in the line of duty during a hostage rescue operation against bandits. Five comrades sacrificed their lives in that operation, and Suxin's father was one of them."

So that's how it is. No wonder. Perhaps not wanting to dwell on the matter any longer, Chang Yuzhen immediately continued, "As for Suxin's mother, Yulin, you've guessed pretty accurately. Although she's not a very high-ranking official, many officials are afraid to mention her name because she's the deputy secretary of the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, specifically responsible for catching corrupt officials."

"Your mother's surname is Cheng, right?" The principal's words reminded me of the sensational corruption case of Hu XX, the director of the Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee, two years ago. That case was investigated by Cheng Yurong, the then deputy secretary of the Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection. I'd heard some rumors about this deputy secretary, known as the "female Bao Gong" (a legendary upright official in Chinese history). If I'm not mistaken, this Cheng Yurong must be Wu Suxin's mother, the strange woman I saw at the school gate that day.

"Huh? Yulin, it seems you've already guessed. That's right, Suxin's mother is Cheng Yurong, who handled the Hu XX corruption case two years ago." Chang Yuzhen nodded and said, "I heard from Suxin that her mother has been extremely busy for the past two months, sometimes even unable to come home. She must be investigating some case again, and perhaps that's why she offended some people and attracted this deadly disaster?"

So, I really didn't save the wrong person; otherwise, it would be too unfair to take a bullet for someone else for no reason. After explaining the whole story to me, Chang Yuzhen and Wu Suxin carefully inquired about my condition and told me to get plenty of rest.

"Uncle Liu, you get some rest. I'll come see you again next weekend," Wu Suxin said to me as she left.

I shook my head and said, "No need for that. Your kindness is enough. I'm fine now and will probably be discharged soon. Go back and tell your mother to catch a few more corrupt officials. Don't worry too much about the life-saving grace; I just happened to be there."

"Uncle Liu, I will definitely tell my mother, but I will come to see you again." After seeing off the principal and Wu Suxin, I asked Yingying, who was lying by the bed, "Yingying, how many times has this Miss Wu come before?" Yingying thought for a moment and said, "Well, about five or six times, always with Aunt Chang. Dad, have you noticed that Aunt Chang's attitude towards you seems to have changed?"

"How could I not notice? People are all made of flesh and blood." I said with a touch of emotion, and Yashi and Yingying nodded thoughtfully.

After a moment of silence, Ya Shi suddenly looked up at me and said, "Dad, Sister Yuqing and Aunt Jiang also came to see you in the hospital. Can't you forgive them yet?"

I shook my head slightly, smiled faintly, and felt a sense of peace and tranquility. All the grudges and resentments with the Mei family seemed to vanish with that smile.

December 25th was traditionally Christmas in the West, but walking down the streets of QH City, I felt the strong festive atmosphere. Although I felt that Chinese people celebrating Christmas was somewhat incongruous, shrewd merchants didn't seem to care at all. Many shops had set up Santa Claus and Christmas tree decorations in front of their stores, attracting the attention of passersby.

The winter sun felt warm on my skin, and my mood was as bright as the sun. An unprecedented feeling flowed through my heart, and everything before me seemed so beautiful. Whether it was the innocent smiles on the faces of children playing on street corners, the enthusiasm emanating from merchants loudly soliciting customers, or the anticipation and longing on the faces of hurried passersby, everything stirred my emotions. Never before had I felt the city I live in so vibrant and full of hope.

Standing on the street, looking around, I felt like a child entering the world for the first time, filled with curiosity, and a sense of profound understanding welled up within me.

"When the heart is calm and undisturbed, everywhere is green hills and clear waters; when the nature is nurturing, everywhere one sees fish leaping and birds soaring."

This is a line from *Cai Gen Tan* (菜根谭), and although its meaning is obvious—"If the heart is calm and undisturbed, everywhere one goes is green hills and clear waters, a beautiful scene; if the nature has a nurturing love for all things, then everything one sees is a leisurely landscape of fish leaping and birds soaring"—it was only at this moment that I truly grasped the philosophy of life it contained.

The sun shines equally on every corner of the earth, but those with dark hearts can never feel it; conversely, as long as your heart is clear, as long as love flows within it, even in a filthy and chaotic place, the sun can still fill your heart with warmth, allowing you to feel the brightness, leaping and joy of flowing water.

"Dad, where have you been? Why are you only coming back now?" After wandering the streets for most of the day, I finally returned home in the twilight, only to be met with a barrage of complaints from Yingying, her face full of anxiety: "Dad, really! Why didn't you tell us you were going to be discharged? And why didn't you come home right away? Dad, do you know how many times we've been looking for you? You almost drove us crazy!"

"Oh, sorry, sorry, I only decided to be discharged on a whim." Seeing Yumei, Yuyi, and Yashi behind Yingying, all looking equally worried, I sincerely apologized to them. Before I returned, Yu Mei must have been even more anxious than Ying Ying, but now she couldn't bear to blame me any further. Instead, she gently stopped Ying Ying, who was about to continue criticizing me: "Ying Ying, don't blame your dad anymore. Isn't he back now?" Ying Ying pouted, still showing some lingering anger.

"Alright, alright, my little princess, don't be angry anymore. Daddy apologizes, okay?" I took Yingying's little hand and patted it gently, soothing her worried heart. Hearing me call her "little princess," Yingying couldn't help but chuckle, then blushed and brought her little mouth close to mine.

This little rascal, I thought to myself with a smirk, and without hesitation, I met her kiss. Under my excellent guidance, her kissing skills as her love apprentice had now graduated. Although we'd kissed quite a bit these past few days, each time gave me a novel feeling, that unique sense of connection that made even my usually calm heart flutter.

After a long while, our lips parted, and Yingying breathed heavily, her little face flushed a deep red, exceptionally adorable, her bright eyes watery as if about to spill water. I glanced at everyone's reactions. Yu Mei, Yu Yi, and Ya Shi all looked normal, with faint smiles on their lips. Only Ruolan's face was flushed, and her gaze was somewhat evasive; she seemed a little unaccustomed to it. Luckily, she already knew about Yingying's father complex, otherwise her reaction would have been much stronger.

"Yingying, are you calmed down? Quickly invite your dad to sit down. We're going to have a proper celebration today," Yu Yi said, gesturing for everyone to sit down. Soon, a sumptuous Christmas dinner was laid out before me, leaving me somewhat surprised. Ya Shi smiled and explained to me, "Dad, Yingying only found out you were discharged from the hospital when she brought you lunch at noon. Although we were worried sick about you not coming home, Aunt Mei was quite prescient. She said you might have been in the hospital for too long and wanted to get some fresh air, so we shouldn't worry and should prepare a Christmas feast for your return." "Though

we lack the wings of a phoenix to fly together, our hearts are connected by a single thread of understanding." These lines from the Tang Dynasty poet Li Shangyin, which perfectly capture the highest realm of love between a man and a woman, naturally came to mind. I couldn't help but gaze at Yu Mei sitting diagonally opposite me. Without any extra words, she simply smiled gently at me, but the tenderness contained within that smile was so profound that it was enough for me to savor for a lifetime.

"Uncle Liu, what exactly are you doing instead of going home?" Ruolan, seemingly unable to bear the "flirting" between her mother and me, suddenly asked, somewhat spoiling the mood. I withdrew my gaze from Yu Mei, glanced lightly at the somewhat uneasy Ruolan, and then at Ya Shi, Ying Ying, and Yu Yi, who were listening intently. I chuckled and said, "You might not believe it, but I didn't actually go anywhere. I just strolled around the streets, enjoying the bright sunshine and the freedom of breathing."

"What? Uncle Liu, you weren't out of the hospital at ten in the morning and strolling around until five in the afternoon?" Ruolan exclaimed in surprise, her face full of disbelief. Ya Shi and Ying Ying also looked puzzled. Only Yu Mei and Yu Yi seemed not to have heard what I said, still looking at me with faint smiles.

"That's right." I nodded slightly, looked at the girls with confused expressions, and didn't say anything more. Some things can only be truly understood through personal experience; mere preaching is useless. Seeing the somewhat somber atmosphere, Yu Mei quickly changed the subject, saying, "Alright, alright, let's not talk about these trivial things anymore. Today is a memorable day, it's Christmas, let's all be happy! Come on, let's raise a glass!"

"Cheers!" Yingying raised her glass and clinked it against mine heavily. This girl, just like her mother, always likes to throw in a few words of English every now and then. Perhaps some people will find it strange that I'm drinking so freely right after being discharged from the hospital? Hehe, well, my body recovered quickly. To be honest, even my attending physician, Vice President Wang, was quite surprised, because my current physical condition is not much different from before the accident, which is why he allowed me to be discharged early. It's

really a bit strange, actually. For the first two days after waking up, I occasionally felt some chest tightness and shortness of breath, but in the following days I didn't feel it at all, as if my heart had never been injured. This made Old Man Wang keep exclaiming "strange," saying that in his decades of medical experience, he had never encountered such a thing before. Before being discharged from the hospital, I quietly asked him if my heart injury would affect my normal life.

The old man smiled knowingly and lowered his voice, saying, "Brother, you're a lucky guy. As long as you don't go too far and have sex with seven or eight women in one night, you'll be fine. But then again, even if that happens, your kidneys will probably be the first to malfunction, not your heart." Tch, what a lecherous old man. I was truly impressed.

"Yu Lin, although I know you're basically fine now, you should still drink less alcohol and eat more." Yu Mei was still a little worried about my health. Although she said I should drink less alcohol, she only let me have a small glass of beer before taking my glass away. But I've never been particularly interested in alcohol, so I wasn't unhappy with Yu Mei's "dictatorship." On the contrary, I felt a warm glow inside.

Calling it a Christmas feast was no exaggeration. There were only six of us, fewer than the number of plates on the table. Moreover, none of the five of them had large appetites, and their combined strength wasn't much, so the task of finishing off the food in front of them mostly fell to me.

After the meal, thanks to their meticulous care, I was quite overweight, constantly burping, which made the girls giggle and laugh. Sigh... this feast was a disaster. They were all so eager to put food on my plate, and I couldn't refuse what they offered. It was inevitable that things would turn out this way.

Seeing my embarrassing state, the girls felt a little guilty after laughing, but I didn't blame them. How can you enjoy a romantic feast without paying a price?

Perhaps they couldn't stand our unrestrained affection, because Ruolan left shortly after the meal; Yashi and Yingying were taking a bath, while I was whispering sweet nothings to Yumei and Yuyi. Yu Yi leaned against my chest, her face slightly flushed, and whispered, "Yu Lin, you seem to have changed. You weren't like this before, always spouting sweet nothings..."

I smiled slightly, lowered my head and kissed her lips, whispering, "Yes, I have changed. Before, I couldn't escape the constraints of ethics and morality. Although I reluctantly accepted you and Ya Shi out of a sense of responsibility, I could never fully commit when I was with you. From now on, I'm going to live a different life. I want you to truly enjoy the sweetness of love... Yi, do you like my change?" Yu Yi nodded gently, her blushing face making her exceptionally beautiful.

"Yu Lin, you've finally come to your senses," Yu Mei said softly, gazing at my face. I gently stroked her face and said softly, "Mei, I've figured it out, but you haven't." Yu Mei trembled, staring at me blankly. I said softly, "Do you know why I stopped calling you Sister Mei? It's because I want you to forget the fact that you're older than me. I don't care about that, and I hope you don't care either. Promise me, forget it, okay?" Yu Mei's eyes reddened slightly, and she nodded gently.

I stroked her face, which had gradually returned to normal after these few days of rest, and gazed into her beautiful eyes, which seemed to be veiled with mist, and said softly, "Don't call me by my name anymore. Call me Lin, okay? That's what A-Ling always called me."

"Lin..." Yu Mei seemed to have returned to her teenage years when she first fell in love, and shyly called my name softly, then buried her blushing face in my arms. I smiled with satisfaction, knowing that Yu Mei's heart had grown younger. Although she would still play the role of both wife and sister, I believed she would increasingly portray the delicate and endearing wife, rather than the caring older sister she was now.

"Yi, call out to me too," I said softly, looking down at Yu Yi, who was gazing at me with adoration. Yu Yi's pretty face flushed crimson, and she looked at me shyly. She opened her mouth a few times before finally uttering a soft, almost inaudible whisper, "Lin..." before lowering her head in embarrassment. Looking at the two mature beauties in my arms, who seemed to have instantly become twenty years younger, I couldn't help but laugh heartily with pride.

"What are you laughing at? You're trying to scare me to death!" Yu Mei, blushing, tried to cover my mouth, but I stole several kisses on her delicate, slender hands, making her roll her eyes at me. I smugly embraced the two beauties in my arms, and chuckled mischievously in their ears, "It's been so long since we've been together, have you thought about me?"

"Of course I've missed you, you rascal!" Even the usually outgoing Yu Yi couldn't stand my teasing, blushing and scolding me. I chuckled softly, reaching out to grasp her full breasts, giving them a gentle squeeze, and asked with a smile, "Really?" Yu Yi's breathing quickened, her teeth clenched, refusing to give in easily. I smiled slightly, kneading her breasts with varying pressure, skillfully arousing her desire. In no time, Yu Yi slumped into my arms like a lump of mud, her eyes blazing with desire.

After setting Yu Mei aside, my hands went straight for Yu Yi's belt, and Yu Yi impatiently began to undo mine. Yu Mei joined in, helping Yu Yi frantically strip me naked from the waist down. At the same time, I pulled down Yu Yi's pants, revealing her plump, alluring, and already wet vulva. I chuckled, "Yi, still being stubborn? Look at your little mouth down there, it's drooling, so pitiful."

"You naughty thing, how dare you make fun of me!" Yu Mei, somewhat indignant, reached out and pinched my erect penis hard, then guided it against Yu Yi's wet and sticky passage. Yu Yi's face turned bright red, her teeth slightly biting, her hands on my shoulders, her round buttocks lowering as she slowly swallowed my penis. Although it had only been a month since we last had sex, it felt so fresh. I don't know if it was my imagination or something else, but Yu Yi's vagina seemed to have tightened up a bit, gripping my penis tightly.

"Hoo..." Yu Yi slowly sat down to the bottom and couldn't help but let out a long sigh. The wonderful feeling of fullness and satisfaction almost made her dizzy. She leaned over and kissed me, whispering, "My darling, what's wrong with you? Your thing seems even thicker than before. I can't take it anymore." I was taken aback. "Really? Is it because we haven't been intimate for so long that your vagina has become tighter?"

Yu Yi gently shook her head, slightly shyly saying, "We've only been apart for a month. It's impossible for it to change that much. It's definitely your own thing that's gotten thicker." Is that really true? Come to think of it, quite a few strange things have happened to me, like my body miraculously recovered and my brain becoming smarter. I just didn't expect even my little brother to get thicker. It's really strange.

"Silly boy, what are you thinking about? It'll be even better if it gets bigger." Yu Yi said shyly, kissing me as she saw my thoughtful expression. I thought about it, and she was right. Women are only afraid of the embarrassment of "stirring up an empty bowl with chopsticks," but I've never heard of a woman complaining that a man's penis is too thick.

I kissed Yu Yi back, then lifted her sweater and bra together, revealing her two breasts covered by a bra. Yu Mei, who was standing nearby, had already reached behind Yu Yi and unhooked her bra. With a bang, the bra popped open, and two white breasts were suddenly exposed in front of me, trembling and nodding at me.

"Oh..." Yu Yi couldn't help but moan softly, as I lowered my head and gently bit her nipple. The strange stimulation on her chest and the double stimulation of her full, swollen vagina made Yu Yi wild. She put her hands on my shoulders and began to sway her hips up and down. A long-lost feeling of pleasure immediately spread throughout her body. Oh, my god!

"Oh...oh...Lin...I can't take it anymore..." Whether it was because she had been deprived for too long or because Yu Yi was too excited, she only lasted a few dozen strokes before collapsing limply onto me. Huh? I hadn't even had a chance to enjoy myself properly, how come she finished so quickly? I couldn't help but tease her, "Yi, what's wrong? Why are you so easily exhausted today?"

"You have the nerve to say that? It's all because your naughty thing stretched me too tight, how could I last long?" Yu Yi said, somewhat unconvinced, like a little girl.

I couldn't help but laugh, gently flicking her nose and chuckling, "Okay, okay...it's all my fault. You rest for a bit, let Mei try."

I smiled as I untied Yu Yi from my erect penis and placed her on the sofa to rest. Yu Mei, already fully clothed, was ready for action.

"Oh...so thick...it's so swollen...Yi-mei wasn't wrong...it's your naughty thing that's gotten thicker..." Yu Mei gasped, sitting up abruptly, feeling a burning sensation in her honeypot, swollen and full, as if it were about to burst.

At this point, I was certain that my little brother had indeed changed. But why were these strange changes happening to me? Was it the mysterious power of the qigong I had practiced for so long? Was it a mutation in my body's cells during a near-death state? Or was Ah Ling protecting me from the unseen forces? This might be a question I'd never answer, but what did it matter? If I couldn't find the answer, so be it; life would go on.

"Are you having fun?" I supported Yu Mei's waist with both hands to help her. Yu Mei had an indescribable satisfaction on her face. While vigorously stroking my penis, she panted and said, "It's so pleasurable... You naughty thing... How can you be so good... I'm starting to regret... Giving you to someone else..."

Seeing Yu Mei's beaming face, I couldn't help but ask with a smile, "Really?"

"Just kidding..." Yu Mei swayed her round buttocks rapidly, hitting my hips and making "slap" and "slap" sounds. She murmured sweetly, "You naughty thing... you've become so powerful now... if I don't share you with someone else... I'll die under your naughty influence sooner or later..."

I laughed, a laugh tinged with smugness and mischief. Yu Mei lowered her head and lightly bit my cheek, playfully saying, "Naughty thing, so proud of yourself, huh? Don't be too proud yet, Yi Mei and I will definitely make your naughty thing obedient..."

However, Yu Mei's boast was clearly premature, because she soon followed in Yu Yi's footsteps. As a cool liquid gushed from the depths of her honeyed orifice, her delicate body trembled violently in my arms, and then she collapsed weakly onto me, all traces of the boldness she had displayed when she made her boast.

Gazing at Yu Mei's languid and alluring demeanor, I couldn't help but chuckle, "Helped by a maid, you're so delicate and weak, just beginning to receive my favor."

"You're so cheeky," Yu Mei playfully punched me with her delicate hand, then chuckled, "I'm not Yang Guifei, whose 'one glance could launch a thousand ships, eclipsing all the beauties of the harem,' and you're not Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, who 'was obsessed with

beauty,' are you?" "Of course not, otherwise wouldn't we be stuck in a cycle of 'love that never ends, but endless resentment'?" I lowered my head and kissed Yu Mei's lips, whispering, "Our future will definitely be happy, I promise."

"I believe you." Yu Mei gently leaned into my arms, while Yu Yi beside her also rested against me, nestled close.
October 27th,

Chapter 15:

"Oh, Aunt Mei, Aunt Liu, you two sneak a bite while Ya Shi and I are gone." Yingying and Ya Shi, wrapped in bathrobes, appeared at the bedroom door, smiling slightly as they looked at the three of us, our lower bodies bare and tightly huddled together. Perhaps feeling a little embarrassed, even Yu Mei and Yu Yi, who were used to sleeping together under the same blanket, blushed at Yingying's teasing and awkwardly got off me. Seeing the two of them hurriedly putting on their pants, I couldn't help but chuckle, "What's wrong with you two? Are you embarrassed?"

"Do you think we're as shameless as you?" Yu Mei rolled her eyes at me and gently pushed me, saying, "Lin, go take a shower first." I retorted, "Aren't you two going to shower with me?" Yu Yi gave me a charming sidelong glance, leaned over and kissed me, whispering, "You go first, we'll be right behind."

"Hurry up, you two." I took off my shirt in the living room and walked naked towards the bathroom. My little brother, still wet from my own juices, was shiny and looked even more grotesque, swaying and bobbing with my movements. Seeing my grotesque appearance, Yu Mei, with a mixture of shyness and delight, lightly spat, "You little show-off!" Yu Yi's eyes shone, her beautiful gaze wistful; Ya Shi, on the other hand, looked dazed, staring at my muscular body with a dreamy expression; as for the naive Ying Ying, her face was flushed, and she secretly glanced at my crotch with a mixture of curiosity and shyness.

"Little kids, don't look like that, or you'll get an eye infection." As I passed by Ying Ying and Ya Shi, I couldn't help but reach out and pinch their blushing cheeks. The two girls blushed and stomped their feet, protesting coquettishly, but I laughed and hid in the bathroom. A month ago, I simply couldn't imagine myself doing something so absurd, but now it feels so natural. As the saying goes, "The body is like an unmoored boat, drifting freely; the heart is like ashes, what harm is there in cutting and applying perfume?" Yearning for a carefree life is human nature. Having already died once, I don't want to needlessly bind myself again, I don't want to live as exhaustingly as before.

"When I kiss you, let me see your face..." I hummed a tuneless pop song while lathering myself with soap. Yu Mei and Yu Yi are so slow, why aren't they here yet? I shouted at the top of my lungs, "Why are you so slow?" Huh? Nobody answered me, how could that be? I opened the bathroom door, full of suspicion. Uh? Why is it so quiet? Where did everyone go? I muttered to myself as I rinsed off the soap.

"What the hell, where did everyone go?" I walked out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel, standing angrily in the empty living room, yelling.

"Hehe, Dad, what are you yelling about in the living room?" Ya Shi's laughter suddenly came from the bedroom. Huh? I walked into the bedroom with suspicion, only to find Ya Shi and Ying Ying already in bed. I was taken aback and asked, "Where are they? Didn't they say they were going to bathe with me? Where are they?"

Ying Ying giggled and said, "Dad, you're so unlucky. Aunt Mei and Aunt Liu went back to sleep a long time ago. You got stood up." What? They dared to play me like this. I'll see how I deal with them tomorrow! I thought to myself, but on the surface, I showed a wolfish smile and looked at the two girls who were laughing so hard on the bed, their blankets billowing high. I chuckled and said, "You two girls dare to make fun of me. Aren't you afraid I'll eat you up?"

"Hehe...we're not afraid of you, you big bad wolf, hehe..." Ya Shi and Ying Ying said in unison, their faces turning red involuntarily.

I chuckled and said, "Really not afraid? Then I'm really going to eat you up." I suddenly yanked the blankets off them. In my mind, I imagined them screaming and trying to snatch the blankets from my hands, but quite the opposite happened. They neither screamed nor tried to grab the blankets. Instead, they lay quietly on the bed

, smiling shyly at me. I was so surprised that my eyes almost popped out. Ya Shi was completely naked. Her petite body seemed to have become fuller after a month apart. Her delicate, snow-white body was mostly exposed before me, with only a cute white thong covering her private parts.

My gaze immediately fell on her budding breasts. Her two small breasts, like two little buns, protruded from her fair and rosy skin, looking incredibly cute. The two pink nipples on top trembled gently with her breath, appearing exceptionally alluring.

What stunned me wasn't Yingying's beautiful and alluring breasts, but rather a heart-shaped pattern drawn with cream on them, perfectly enclosing her two pink peaks. Below the pattern, on her smooth, flat stomach, was the English phrase "help yourself" written in cream.

"Ruolan, what are you thinking about?" I glanced up unintentionally and found Ruolan sitting in front of the computer, lost in thought, looking preoccupied. I stopped working and asked her with concern. Ruolan snapped out of her reverie, looked up at me intently, then shook her head slightly without saying anything more. I was even more puzzled: "Ruolan, what's wrong?"

"Uncle Liu, you've changed," Ruolan said suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, after a moment of silence.

I was slightly taken aback. After thinking about it carefully, I still couldn't figure out what Ruolan meant, so I went straight to the point: "Ruolan, just say what you want to say. There's no need to beat around the bush with me."

Ruolan bit her lip and looked at me for a long time, hesitating several times before finally lowering her head and whispering, "Uncle Liu, I feel like you've become a completely different person since you came back from the hospital. You give me a very unfamiliar feeling. I can't explain why I feel this way, but you just seem very different from before, making you a bit hard to understand."

"Oh? Is that so? I don't think so," I smiled slightly and joked, "I thought you were going to say I've become more handsome? Sigh, what a waste of my excitement."

“Uncle Liu, I’m not joking with you.” Ruolan didn’t laugh. She looked up at me with a complicated expression, her somewhat confused gaze lingering on my face for a long time before she bit her lower lip and whispered, “Uncle Liu, let me tell you something from the bottom of my heart. I’m very worried about my mother. I’m worried that she won’t get the happiness she wants from you.”

I was taken aback, a sudden realization dawning on me. Then I heard Ruolan continue, “Uncle Liu, I think you know better than I do what my mother feels for you. She has poured almost all her love into you. She’s even willing to give up her self-respect as a woman and tolerate you having relationships with other women. It’s no exaggeration to say that my mother didn’t treat my deceased father as well as she treated you, Uncle Liu. Uncle Liu, you can’t be indifferent to my mother’s sacrifices, can you?”

"Of course not." I looked at Ruolan and said in a deep voice, "Humans aren't plants or trees, how can they be without feelings? How could I not know how good your mother is to me? Ruolan, perhaps I can never repay your mother's kindness in this lifetime, but I promise you, I will definitely make your mother happy."

Ruolan looked at me deeply, then lowered her head and said softly, "Uncle Liu, if this were before, I wouldn't have doubted you. I believed that you would definitely keep your word, but now everything has changed."

After a slight pause, Ruolan said quietly, "Uncle Liu, I don't know if you and your two sisters considered my mother and Aunt Liu's feelings when you were being so reckless last night? During the days you were unconscious, they stayed by your bedside day and night without sleep, and they both lost a lot of weight. What were they doing this for? Last night was the first night you were discharged from the hospital and returned home. I think they longed to be by your side more than anyone else, and they should have been more qualified than anyone else to be by your side, but in fact..."

Ruolan gently shook her head, her disappointment towards me evident in her words.

Faced with her questioning, I fell silent. Although Yu Mei and Yu Yi stood me up last night, their efforts for me were completely disproportionate to my efforts for them. I had indeed unintentionally neglected them. With

a soft sigh, Ruolan continued, "Uncle Liu, I also find it hard to accept your relationship with Yingying. I don't understand why you suddenly stopped considering Yingying's future? Because Yingying told me about her feelings for you a long time ago, and she knows why you didn't accept her before. So I don't understand why your attitude suddenly changed so drastically." "

Ruolan, some things can't be explained in a few words. I can only tell you that I have no other choice." I gently shook my head and sighed softly, "Ruolan, you probably will never understand the feeling of being resurrected from the dead that I experienced. It's enough to change a person's view of life. Ruolan, actually, my thoughts now are very simple. I just want my loved ones to be happy."

After pondering for a while, Ruolan looked up at me and asked, "Uncle Liu, do you really think you can bring happiness to my mother, Aunt Liu, Yingying, and Yashi? Love is a very exclusive emotion. Shakespeare also said that love cannot tolerate even a grain of sand. Uncle Liu, do you think you can evenly distribute your love among several people? Even if you can treat them all equally, can what they receive still be considered true love? And if you can't even give my mother and the others the love that women crave most, how dare you say you can bring them happiness? Uncle Liu, tell me, can a woman without love be considered a happy woman?"

“Ruolan, you’re right. Love really can’t be shared. That’s why I can’t give your mother and the others true love. The only person who ever received true love from me was your deceased Aunt Ling.”

I sighed softly and continued, “But Ruolan, you have to understand that love and happiness are two different things, and love can easily fade and change. Getting love doesn’t mean you’ll have lifelong happiness. For two people who are going to spend their lives together, ordinary days are the main theme of life, and love is just a seasoning in that ordinariness. Although your mother and I didn’t have a passionate love affair, our hearts were together. We were tolerant of each other, understanding of each other, and cherished each other.”

"Someone once said that the happiest woman is one who can carry a shopping basket. I won't say how accurate that statement is, but it at least tells us a truth: happiness actually permeates the little things in our lives, and the true flavor of life lies in ordinary experiences like carrying a basket to buy groceries. If a person only thinks about pursuing some grand, dramatic love, then he will never find his own happiness. Happiness is a feeling for each individual. Ruolan, you are not your mother and the others, so how do you know they are not happy? As Zhuangzi once said, 'You are not a fish, how do you know if the fish is not happy?'"

Ruolan lowered her head and remained silent for a long time before looking at me with somewhat confused eyes and saying, "Uncle Liu, what you said seems to make some sense, but it also seems not to. I can't figure it out for the moment. But I will ask my mother and the others myself, because I still have some doubts about whether several women falling in love with the same man can have a happy ending."

"As long as you've loved and given your all, whether the ending is perfect or not doesn't really matter," I sighed softly. "Instead of worrying about the unpredictable future, it's more practical to cherish each day. Right now, I'm not thinking about what the future holds; I'm only thinking about what I should do today."

Ruolan remained silent, head bowed in thought, her expression shifting. Clearly, she hadn't fully accepted my point of view. After some time, she looked up at me and said, "Uncle Liu, my mind is a bit muddled right now. I want to go for a walk."

"Go ahead, just remember to come back for dinner." Watching Ruolan leave, I couldn't help but sigh slightly.

"Sister Ruolan's gone?" The bedroom door opened a crack, and Yingying peeked out. This little girl had given herself to me last night. Although I tried my best to be gentle, her young bud was too delicate, and she was still quite badly hurt. She had to take the day off to rest at home.

I nodded gently and asked softly, "Where's Ya Shi?" Ying Ying was unable to walk properly because she had just lost her virginity, while Ya Shi had taken the blame for Ying Ying. Last night, she had endured the pent-up desire I hadn't been able to release on Ying Ying, and as a result, she was also quite injured. So she had taken the day off, and Yu Mei had given me a good scolding for it, saying I was too inconsiderate.

"Sister Shi is washing her face," Ying Ying replied as she slowly walked out, her gait slightly pigeon-toed. Seeing me staring at her, a hint of shyness appeared on Ying Ying's face, and her cheeks flushed a rosy pink. Seeing the slightly mischievous smile on my face, Ying Ying blushed and threw herself into my arms, gently punching my chest a few times with her small fists, and

said shyly, "Dad, you're so naughty." I laughed and embraced her delicate body, whispering in her ear, "Does it still hurt?" Ying Ying nodded shyly, burying her flushed face in my chest. I gently stroked her hair, feeling the curves and undulations of her still-developing body, my heart filled with tenderness. After a moment of silence, I softly asked, "Yingying, did you and Yashi hear my conversation with Ruolan?"

"Yes." Yingying raised her still flushed face to look at me, nodding her head slightly. "Shi-jie and I woke up a while ago, but we weren't feeling well, so we didn't get up. Shi-jie and I heard your conversation with Ruolan from beginning to end. Ruolan is right, Aunt Mei and Aunt Liu should have stayed with you last night. It's all my fault."

"It's not your fault, I was just a little careless." I gently kissed Yingying's forehead.

Yingying's pretty face flushed again. She tilted her head and kissed me back, then whispered, "Dad, are you worried about Ruolan? Actually, you don't need to worry too much. Ruolan will figure it out sooner or later." She looked up at me, her face still red, and said, "Dad, it would be best if Ruolan joined us too, then we wouldn't have any worries."

"Nonsense," I gently shook my head, the image of Ruolan's half-naked body involuntarily appearing before my eyes. Yingying's suggestion was indeed tempting, but it was just wishful thinking. Ruolan couldn't even accept the relationship between Yingying and me; how could she possibly interfere? I reached out and gently flicked Yingying's little nose, chuckling, "Besides you and Yashi, who else would treat me like a treasure?"

"I'm not a silly girl," Yingying lightly punched my chest, blushing shyly. I couldn't help but burst into laughter. Yingying, blushing, whispered in my ear, "Dad, you're laughing so naughtily."

I laughed even harder. Yingying playfully punched my chest, and I teased her, "Yingying, Dad really didn't expect that you, such a bold girl, would be so shy in bed. You're just like your mother."

Yingying blushed deeply and retorted, "Dad, I didn't expect it either! You're such a pervert, smelling my underwear!"

Hearing Yingying's retort, I couldn't help but chuckle. I gently pinched her little nose and said softly, "Little girl, you closed your eyes then, how did you know?"

"I told her," Yashi said with a smile, stepping out of the way.

Judging from her gait, her pigeon-toed posture seemed even more pronounced than Yingying's. I felt a pang of guilt and reached out to pull her into my arms as well. I gently kissed her little lips and asked softly, "Ya Shi, does it still hurt?"

"It's alright now, just a little burning." Ya Shi tilted her head and kissed me, whispering shyly. Then, her eyes darted around, and she reached out to pinch Ying Ying's little face, chuckling, "Little girl, don't stir things up and then just leave it at that next time. Last night, it was a good thing Dad was able to hold back, otherwise you wouldn't be able to get out of bed today." Ying Ying blushed and stuck out her tongue shyly, making Ya Shi and me laugh.

After cuddling and cuddling the two girls for a while, I chuckled and patted their little bottoms, saying, "Alright, stop clinging to me, I have things to do." The two girls reluctantly got out of my arms, seemingly with no intention of leaving my side. Curious, I asked, "Don't you two have anything to do?"

Yingying grinned at me and said, "Dad, Shi-jie and I just discussed it in bed. Today we're going to have a 'hakunamatata' kind of life."

"Ha...what was that again?" I was taken aback. What new term was this? I'd never heard of it before.

Ya-shi smiled and softly explained, "Dad, it's 'hakunamatata.' It refers to the lifestyle of those idle people who just eat and sunbathe, hehe. So Yingying and I are planning to do nothing today, just follow you around and watch what you do."

"If you're not afraid of getting bored, feel free to look around," I kindly reminded the two girls, but it seemed my words were in vain. I shook my head helplessly, ignored them, and buried myself in my laptop.

During my hospital stay, I hadn't been idle. Under Yi Jing's guidance, I wrote a small program that extracted nearly 20,000 stocks with daily gains of over 5% and nearly 80,000 stocks with daily losses of over 5% from the trading data of thousands of stocks in the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets over the past four years. My next research will be based on these approximately 100,000 typical samples.

My idea is simple: to build a mathematical model from this seemingly chaotic data that can predict stock price fluctuations, and then use this model to guide stock investment activities. However, everything is easier said than done. My current work involves using mathematical statistics and cluster analysis to roughly classify the sample data, preparing for further analysis and research.

After this process is complete, my next task is to find common patterns in seemingly unrelated data. In technical terms, this means identifying data patterns, or simply pattern classification. This is the most difficult and crucial step. If this step can be completed successfully, then building mathematical models and using them to predict stock trends will be a natural progression. It might sound

a bit verbose, but anyone with computer science knowledge should immediately recognize that my work is essentially "data mining," specifically time series data mining (or time series analysis).

Some might scoff at my idea, arguing that the stock market is random and unpredictable. This has some merit, but it's misleading. Randomness doesn't equate to a lack of patterns; for example, the normal distribution is a well-known example of random statistical patterns. Others might say, "What you can think of, others have already thought of." This isn't entirely wrong, but it's too self-deprecating. Just because others can't do it doesn't mean you can't. One should have more confidence in oneself.

Noon arrived quickly, and Sister Yumei came home from work. I told her about Ruolan's situation. After listening, she frowned and said, "Ruolan, that child, really..."

I comforted her, saying, "Children grow up, it's normal for them to have their own thoughts. I don't care what Ruolan thinks of me, I'm just worried she'll be unhappy because of it."

Yumei pondered for a moment and said, "It shouldn't be that bad, but girls her age tend to have idealistic views on love and life. What we say might not be listened to. Only after she experiences it herself will she understand what true love, true happiness, and true life are."

I nodded and didn't say anything more. Meanwhile, Yingying, the little lazy cat who had been sleeping against me, opened her eyes. With a light laugh, Yu Mei said, "Aunt Mei, if you ask me, why don't we just drag Sister Ruolan into this too? Then you and Dad won't have so many troubles."

Yu Mei smiled and pinched Yingying's little face, laughing, "You little rascal, you really side with your dad. Aren't you afraid he'll ruin his health?" After a slight pause, she looked at me and said, "Yu Lin, if you really want to do this, I don't mind. There are already precedents with Yu Yi and Ya Shi. But with Ruolan's personality, how could she agree?"

I shook my head slightly and laughed, "What are you thinking? I can't even take care of all of you right now. Dragging Ruolan into this would only harm her. Even if I really wanted to, Ruolan would have to be willing like you guys."

"Hey, you let it slip, didn't you? You accidentally said what you were thinking?" Yu Mei looked at me with a smile, her eyes flashing with a sly light.

I smiled slightly and said, "Yu Mei, you don't need to try to trick me. If I can accept Yingying so easily now, why would I have any psychological barriers to accepting Ruolan? I've thought everything through now. Whether I go to heaven or hell after death, I don't care. As long as I don't hurt anyone, I think I should do what I want. Yu Mei, do you think I've completely fallen?"

Yu Mei gently walked to my side, stretched out her slender hand and touched my face, gazing at me and whispering, "Yu Lin, you have indeed changed a lot. Before, you always thought too much about others and suppressed a lot of your own emotions, making life too tiring. Moreover, you used to be a bit indecisive, not like a man who can take things in stride. Take your relationship with Ya Shi and Yu Yi, for example. You said you'd already done things you shouldn't have, so what's the use of regretting it now? And take your grudges with the Mei family, for example. Either you forgive them openly, or you hate them for life. But instead, you're entangled in a love-hate relationship with them. I'm truly impressed by you."

"Yu Mei, now that you mention it, it makes me seem incredibly pathetic before. Why are you still so good to me?" This was the first time I'd heard such praise from the gentle and quiet Yu Mei, and I was quite surprised.

Yu Mei smiled sweetly and said gently, "Who told me to fall head over heels in love with you, you wicked thing, more than ten years ago? Sometimes I ask myself why I'm willing to share you with other women, why I can do anything for you without complaint, but in the end, there are no answers. I think perhaps the only explanation is that I owed you in my past life."

"Mei, you've suffered." I gently stroked her jade-like hand that was caressing my cheek, looking at her with deep emotion.

Yu Mei gently shook her head and said, "Doing anything for the one you love is a kind of happiness, so how could I suffer?"

I shook my head and said, "Mei, you're not right. If everything you do isn't appreciated by the one you love, do you think it can still be called happiness?" Yu Mei smiled, a sweet smile, and I smiled too, a smile of contentment. Although we didn't say a word, we could already read each other's thoughts through our eyes. I think we both belong to the happy kind of people.

"Aunt Mei, do you prefer my father before or my father now?" Yingying suddenly interjected, asking Yumei with a smile.

Yumei pondered for a moment before smiling and saying, "I think I prefer your father as he is now, because he's become more carefree than before. He's not like that hypocrite who only eats what's offered to him. I think you must also prefer your father as he is now, right?"

Yingying glanced at me with a slightly flushed face and nodded gently. Her "protesting too much" gesture made Yashi giggle, which made Yingying even more embarrassed, her face turning bright red.

"Hehe, is the bride shy?" Yumei couldn't help but tease Yingying. Yingying lowered her head, her face flushed, and remained silent, truly like a bride.

Looking at Yingying's still innocent and radiant face, my heart was instantly filled with tenderness and affection. I tenderly embraced her delicate body, which seemed somewhat fragile after her first experience with hardship.

Yingying nestled obediently in my arms, burying her flushed face in my broad chest. I gently stroked her dark hair, a feeling of happiness and tranquility flowing through me, as beautiful as a dream. But I knew very well that this was not a dream, but rather a result of my changing state of mind. As the saying goes, "The elegance of wind and flowers, the clarity of snow and moon, are mastered only by the tranquil; the flourishing and withering of water and trees, the waxing and waning of bamboo and rocks, are governed only by the leisurely."

"Hehe, you're really shy now? Okay, I won't tease you anymore, I'm going to cook." Yu Mei smiled at the shy Yingying in my arms, then turned and walked towards the kitchen.

Ya Shi stood up and said, "Aunt Mei, let me help you."

Yu Mei quickly stopped her, glancing at me with her beautiful eyes and smiling, "Ya Shi, although you're not the bride today, it's still best for you to rest properly. Be careful next time, don't hurt yourself again." Ya Shi gave me a shy glance, blushing and nodding.

Time flies like an arrow, and in the blink of an eye, it was 2004. I resigned from my teaching position citing "poor health and the need for rest," and began a reclusive life, spending my days at home engrossed in studying mathematical models of stocks, almost to the point of obsession. Yu Mei and the others were quite worried about this for a while, but seeing that I was doing well, they gradually relaxed.

Of course, there was another important reason that reassured them: my research results had already begun to show results in practice, allowing them to experience the power of science and knowledge, although they might still have some doubts in their hearts.

It was the afternoon of Thursday, January 8th. Ruolan turned from her computer screen, looking at me with some concern. "Uncle Liu," she said, "Dongfang Group (600811) hit its daily limit this morning, but ZTE Corporation (000063) hasn't moved yet." These were the two stocks I currently held, each with a million-dollar investment. No wonder Ruolan was getting impatient.

I smiled slightly and said, "Why are you in such a hurry? There's still plenty of time before the market closes."

Although I sounded confident when I told Ruolan, I knew perfectly well that the stock trend prediction mathematical model I had built was still quite crude and had a lot of room for improvement. However, even so, the model had performed very well in the past week's practical testing, earning me nearly 400,000 yuan in just one week. That means I had made more than 20% profit in the stock market in the past week, which was quite a small miracle, wasn't it?

Looking at Ruolan's pretty face, which showed signs of unease, I couldn't help but recall the events of the past few days.

To be honest, Ruolan was initially very skeptical of my research, not believing I could actually come up with anything. When I decisively invested nearly two million yuan of my funds in the stock market, she even advised me against taking the risk. But now, her attitude has completely changed.

Faced with the facts, Ruolan finally realized that my "stock trend prediction model" wasn't just a pipe dream. She now firmly believes in my view that "the stock market also has its patterns." From extreme skepticism to complete conviction, less than two weeks have passed, proving the saying that practice is the sole criterion for testing truth.

The term "stock trend prediction model" may sound intimidating, but it's actually not that complicated. Simply put, it's a calculation formula that I developed using mathematical methods such as probability statistics and pattern classification based on a large amount of real-world data. This formula calculates a decimal in the range of "0-1" based on the stock's trading data from the past week. This decimal represents the probability that the stock will rise in the next trading day, which I call the "probability of rise indicator" for stocks.

Obviously, the closer this indicator is to 1, the greater the probability that the stock will rise the next day. All I have to do is calculate the "probability of rise" indicator for thousands of stocks in the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets every day, then select one stock from each market with the highest "probability of rise" indicator to build a position, and then wait for the stock to rise the next day before selling off. Then I recalculate, buy again, and sell again, repeating this process until my pockets are overflowing. However, nothing is perfect. Based on the results of the past week's practice, although all of the dozen or so stocks selected by the model rose the next day, about one-third of them rose by less than 5%, and only about one-third rose by more than 8%. The remaining one-third rose between 5% and 8%.

Although this result is quite good, I am not satisfied because I believe I can make the results even better. I believe I should at least achieve the goal of a stock rise of no less than 5%.

The good news wasn't just about making money in the stock market; two other things also brought me joy.

First, after spending time together and communicating, Ruolan gradually came to understand my ambiguous relationships with the other women, especially my illicit relationship with Yingying. While she might not fully approve of our actions, at least she could interact with us openly and had become cheerful and outgoing again, which was enough. Yumei and I were most worried about her being unhappy.

The other thing that made me happy was that through careful investigation, I confirmed that I had indeed become "smarter" than before.

In researching mathematical models for stocks, I was often able to calmly and intuitively discover the hidden patterns behind the numbers when faced with massive amounts of seemingly chaotic data. From analyzing sample data to developing a model, it only took me a few days—a feat that even I found unbelievable, but it actually happened, even though the model was still quite rudimentary.

I am an atheist. Although what happened to me was so strange and incomprehensible, I still refuse to believe in ghosts and spirits because that goes against my faith in science. I believe that everything can be explained by science, as long as science evolves and develops to a sufficient level.

These days, I've also searched online for a lot of information about mysterious events and medicine. Although I still can't fully explain everything that happened to me, some of the information is still very enlightening. Perhaps the scene I encountered with Ah Ling before waking up in the hospital was a kind of "near-death experience," and my increased intelligence might be the result of my brain undergoing restructuring under critical conditions.

Perhaps influenced by me, Yingying has also become very interested in all sorts of mysterious events. She even bought the DVDs of seasons one through eight of the TV series "X-Files," saying she wanted to do a danascully. So now I have a new "routine" every night: watching two episodes of "X-Files" with Ya Shi and Yingying.

Although the plot of a TV series shouldn't be taken literally, after watching the first season, I feel that many of the mysterious events described in *X-Files* have real-life backgrounds. Who knows, maybe one day my experiences, Liu Yulin's story, will become part of the plot of future *X-Files* episodes.

"Uncle Liu, Uncle Liu, what are you daydreaming about? I'm talking to you and you're not responding..." Ruolan's gentle nudge woke me from my reverie.

I snapped out of my reverie and saw Ruolan staring at me with wide eyes. I apologized, "Sorry, I was thinking about something and didn't hear what you said. What did you want to say?"

"Phew..." Ruolan sighed and shrugged helplessly, "Uncle Liu, Yingying was right, you really are becoming more and more like a 'daydreaming man'." She shook her head and said, "I wanted to tell you that I'm going out to meet an old classmate. Keep an eye on the stock market. If things look bad, sell ZTE. We won't lose money anyway."

"Oh, you seem more nervous than I am. What's there to be nervous about? We've already made hundreds of thousands. What's there to be afraid of?" I said confidently.

Ruolan smiled slightly and said, "Uncle Liu, you're really quite the big shot! But I must remind you, there are no undefeated generals in the stock market, so it's better to be careful."

I smiled slightly and joked, "You're such a busybody! Aren't you going to see your old classmates? Why aren't you leaving yet?" As I spoke, I added with a grin, "Are you going to see your old classmates? Or are you going on a blind date? If so, you'd better dress up nicely."

"It's a female classmate..." Ruolan blushed at my words and said coquettishly, "Uncle Liu, you're just teasing me. I'm ignoring you." Ruolan stomped her foot hard and glared at me resentfully, which made me burst into laughter.

Ruolan twisted her waist, about to throw a coquettish tantrum, when suddenly there was a knock at the door. I gestured to Ruolan, indicating she should open it. Ruolan rolled her eyes at me, then went to open the door. "Oh, it's you?"

"Sister Ruolan, it's me. Is Teacher Liu home?" A voice, both familiar and unfamiliar, reached my ears. My heart skipped a beat; I knew who it was.

Ruolan replied, "Uncle Liu is home. Please come in." Then I saw Ruolan leading Mei Yuqing in. Several months had passed, and Mei Yuqing seemed a little thinner.

"Uncle Liu, look who came to see you! Uh, they even brought you a gift!" Ruolan led Mei Yuqing to me, waving the gift bag in her hand.

I stood up and greeted her with a smile, "Oh, it's Miss Mei! Please have a seat."

Mei Yuqing blushed slightly and said somewhat reservedly, "Teacher Liu, hello. I've been wanting to come see you for a long time..."

"Don't say that. Please sit down." I gestured for Mei Yuqing to sit down. Ruolan poured Mei Yuqing a cup of tea and then said, "Yuqing, I have to go out for a bit. I won't be able to entertain you. You and Uncle Liu should have a good talk." Mei Yuqing nodded without saying anything. Ruolan greeted me again and then left, leaving Mei Yuqing and me alone.

"Teacher Liu, how have you been lately? My mother has been worried about your health and asked me to give her my regards." Mei Yuqing brushed a strand of hair from her forehead and asked me softly.

I smiled slightly and said, "Okay, I can eat and sleep well, what's wrong with that? Go back and tell your mother for me that I'm doing well. By the way, don't call me Teacher Liu anymore, I've resigned from my teaching job."

"I already know about that. I just met with Principal Chang, and she seemed quite regretful when she talked about you." Mei Yuqing asked softly, "Did you feel any regret about giving up your beloved teaching position?"

"Of course I feel a little regret, after all, humans are emotional beings." I sighed softly and said, "You're the same, aren't you? Because of what happened to A-Ling, you didn't even get to go to university, you must feel even more regretful, right?" I only recently learned from Yingying that Mei Yuqing had been admitted to Renmin University last year, but the accident that killed A-Ling happened just before the start of the semester, so Mei Yuqing didn't go to university.

"After something so serious happened, how can I pretend to be nonchalant and sit in class listening to the lesson?" Mei Yuqing shook her head and said, "I already know from Yingying that you've decided to forgive me. I'm very grateful for your magnanimity, but I can't easily forgive myself. I don't think I'll ever forget what happened last September..."

"I won't forget either, but..." I sighed softly, "What's done is done, and we can't change it. We still have to look forward. You're still young, so don't let this setback get you down. Treat it as an obstacle on your life's journey. I think you'll become more mature after you overcome this obstacle. Oh, by the way, have you considered taking the college entrance exam again this year?"

"I don't plan to take the exam again." Mei Yuqing gently shook her head and said, "People often say that society is also a university. After the ups and downs of the past six months, I've come to terms with many things. I don't think it's necessary to go to university. There's nothing wrong with what I'm doing now. I can acquire the necessary knowledge through self-study, and at the same time, I can gain more life experience and social experience through practice. I think I might learn more from reality than I would from university." "

If that's your thinking, I completely agree. After all, there's more than one path to success than going to university." I nodded approvingly, and then said, "You must be very busy lately. I heard from Yingying that you became the vice president of a home appliance company."

Mei Yuqing blushed slightly and smiled a little shyly, "You've heard about it? This home appliance company is a subsidiary of 'Tenglong Group.' I'm a little embarrassed to say that the title of vice president is just a big, intimidating title. My father insisted on putting it on me. Actually, I'm going there to learn. You tell me, what do I know about business management right now?"

"Sigh, don't underestimate yourself. Which successful entrepreneur was born knowing business management? Did they all gradually learn through practice, accumulate experience, and grow slowly?" I smiled slightly and said, "When you become a well-known entrepreneur in the future, you can tell those newbies: 'Back then, I was just like you, a complete novice...'" "

Look at you, you're really joking..." Mei Yuqing blushed at my teasing and stood up, saying, "Teacher Liu, I have something to do later, so I have to go. I'll come to see you again when I have time. You won't be unhappy with me, will you?" "Welcome

, of course you're welcome, but don't bring anything next time you come." I got up to see Mei Yuqing out, and at the door I said softly to her, "Ah Ling's matter is in the past. Thinking about it too much won't help. It's just putting a lot of psychological pressure on yourself. When I saw you this time, I felt you seemed a little thinner. Please pay attention to that in the future."

"Mm." Mei Yuqing nodded, her pretty face slightly flushed. She glanced at me shyly, then said goodbye, "Teacher Liu, I'll head back now." Watching her graceful figure slowly disappear down the stairs, I shook my head slightly and turned to go inside.

Looking at the clock on the wall, it was already 2:30. I remembered the stock market was about to close. When I opened the stock market website and saw the real-time price chart of "ZTE Corporation" displayed online, I couldn't help but pump my fist and shout, "Yay!" It was fantastic! Just before the market closed, "ZTE Corporation" suddenly surged, hitting its daily limit in less than an hour. My "ZTE Corporation" shares were successfully sold when they reached my predetermined selling condition—a 9.5% increase—making a profit of nearly 100,000 yuan.

Today was truly an auspicious day, the most successful day for Ruolan and me in stock trading. We made a net profit of almost 200,000 yuan. If Ruolan knew, I wonder how happy she would be?

With a sense of excitement, I launched the Lostm (Lord of the Stock Market) program, which calculates the "probability of stock price increases," to help me select two rising stars from the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets.

This Lostm program was completed under Yi Jing's guidance. Although it's just a console application without a window interface—incredibly rudimentary—I'm proud of it and have given it a powerful name: "Stock God." Perhaps this name is somewhat undeserved now, but I believe it won't be long before it truly lives up to its name. Whenever I

think about this, I can't help but feel a surge of excitement; my blood seems to boil. I can't wait to see that day arrive. The future is truly something to look forward to. As

the year draws to a close, people far from home, like weary birds returning to their nests, embark on their journeys home. Although the atmosphere of the Spring Festival is not as strong as it used to be, the descendants of Yan and Huang, with their thousands of years of ancient tradition, still tirelessly travel back to their parents' side every year at this time, reliving the deep family affection that cannot be measured by money.

Unfortunately, both my parents and Ah Ling's parents passed away long ago, and we are both only children, without any siblings. This naturally diminished the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year. However, it also saved me a lot of trouble. I didn't have to rack my brains trying to buy train tickets, nor did I have to worry about being crammed like sardines in a can on the train, or endure the arrogant "railway giant's" opportunistic profiteering.

Perhaps it was due to the festive atmosphere of the New Year, but the Chinese stock market was also soaring. With the help of a "stock market guru," Ruolan and I achieved great success in the stock market, earning over 600,000 yuan in just over a week, bringing our total capital to over 3 million yuan. Unfortunately, the stock market was closed for the Spring Festival, forcing me to temporarily halt my money-making endeavors. But as the saying goes, there's no end to the money in the world, so I temporarily put aside stocks and relaxed to welcome the Year of the Monkey with my family.

With Lunar New Year's Eve fast approaching, while other families were busily preparing all sorts of New Year's goods, our family was a different story. Yu Mei and the others spent less than half a day buying all the necessary New Year's goods, and then everyone had nothing to do but wait for the eve of the New Year.

Actually, this was not surprising. Apart from Yu Yi, who still had her parents and younger brother as close relatives, Ah Ling, Yu Mei, and I not only had parents who had long since passed away, but also no siblings. Although we had a few relatives, some close and some distant, we rarely visited them. Therefore, we didn't need to spend a lot of energy and money preparing for the New Year like most families.

On the evening of January 18th, Yu Yi came home from work and told us that they would be on holiday starting the next day. Together with Yu Mei, Ya Shi, and Ying Ying, who had already started their holiday earlier, and Ruo Lan and I, the two idle ones, the whole family could finally put work aside for a while and happily gather together to enjoy family time.

After dinner, the family sat together, drinking steaming green tea and chatting about everything under the sun while cracking sunflower seeds. It was the first time such a harmonious family scene had occurred since Ah Ling's passing, and it warmed my heart.

As the conversation flowed, the topic turned to what to do tomorrow, and everyone started offering suggestions. After I ruthlessly rejected unoriginal ideas like shopping, or playing mahjong, Yingying suggested, "Dad, I have a suggestion. Since everyone has some free time, why don't we take this opportunity to go on a trip? You've made quite a bit of money in the stock market, haven't you?"

“Hmm, I think Yingying’s suggestion is good. Many families don’t stay home for the Spring Festival these days; they travel instead. But we don’t necessarily have to follow suit and go abroad for the New Year. We can find a nearby place and play for a day or two.” Yumei was the first to agree. Looking at me, she added, “Lin, you’ve hardly left the house lately. We’re all worried you’re getting bored. This is a good opportunity to go out and relax.”

Before I could say anything, Yashi, Ruolan, and Yuyi also expressed their agreement. Of course, I had no reason to object, so I nodded and said, “That’s a good idea. I wholeheartedly agree. But we need to think carefully about where to go.” Finding a place to visit near QH City is actually quite difficult, as there aren’t many options.

The women chimed in with their opinions, but none of the locations were ideal. After some discussion, they couldn’t reach a conclusion, and the discussion reached a stalemate.

“Uncle Liu, I have a suggestion…” Ruolan suddenly said, “I heard someone say a few days ago that a high-end hot spring resort has just been built on the border of QH City and the neighboring W City. It’s said that the conditions and facilities are very good. If it’s really like what people say, we might as well consider this place…”

“Yes, there is such a place. I remember now.” Ya Shi suddenly slapped her forehead and said, “I even saw its advertisement in the newspaper today. How could I forget?”

Ya Shi excitedly ran to the bedroom and found today’s “QH City Morning Post.” Everyone gathered around and looked at it. Sure enough, they found an introduction to the resort in the advertisement section. Although they were somewhat skeptical of the flowery words in the advertisement, after discussing it, they finally decided to go to this tourist resort called “Dream Manor.” Seeing is believing, and they would know whether it was good or bad after they went to see it for themselves.

The next morning, after about an hour’s drive, the tour bus carrying our family of six and more than twenty other tourists arrived at the “Dream Manor” resort at 10:30 a.m.

When we got out of the car, we discovered that the resort, built at the foot of a mountain, was quite large. They were even laying the foundation on a vacant lot near the perimeter, suggesting a major construction project was in the near future. Yingying, standing next to me, smiled and said, "It looks pretty good. It's a pity Jia Ni and the others didn't come." We had originally invited Yi Jing, Jia Ni, and Xiao Yan to come with us, but they all had to help with chores at home and didn't have time to come out, which was a real shame.

"Sir, we offer both standard guest rooms and family suites specifically for families. Standard guest rooms are available in four types: six-person, triple, double, and single rooms. Family suites are available in three types: standard suite, premium suite, and superior suite. Each type has a different price; this is the price list. You can consider it carefully before making a decision. However, since you are traveling with family, I recommend a family suite. This way, the whole family can stay together without any outside interference, which is especially suitable for families like yours traveling together."

The beautiful, smiling, and charming receptionist enthusiastically introduced the accommodation to us. We had just taken a quick look around and found that the place was indeed as advertised, with quite a few activities to do, so we decided to stay here for one night.

"Miss, could you explain to me what this so-called superior suite is like, and why the price is so high for one night?" I asked the receptionist, pointing to the superior suite item priced at 1188 yuan per night on the price list.

The receptionist smiled sweetly, then pointed to a row of houses not far away and said, "Sir, do you see those? Those are the luxury suites. Each suite is a separate two-story building. We only have twelve of these buildings in our resort right now."

After a slight pause, the receptionist continued, "Before explaining why a suite costs so much per night, I'd like to tell you about the hot springs here. I'm sure you've heard from others that our hot springs are very famous, with many benefits such as relieving illness, beautifying the skin, and strengthening the body. If you come here and don't soak in the hot springs, you've really wasted your trip."

"The most special thing about this deluxe suite is that the first floor has a small hot spring bath of over 60 square meters. You and your family can soak in it for as long as you like; otherwise, you and your family would have to go to the public hot spring bath that charges by the hour, and you'd have to squeeze in with other tourists, which is obviously not as good. Sir, let me tell you, this price of 1188 yuan per night is a 25% discount because we just opened. It won't be this price after a while."

Yu Yi was stunned and said, "Would anyone stay in such an expensive room?"

The receptionist... My sister smiled slightly and said, "Of course, some people are staying here. This morning alone, four families chose to stay in these deluxe suites, and now there are only two left." After a slight pause, she continued, "This is because we just opened recently, and it's almost Chinese New Year, so there are relatively few tourists. If there are more tourists after the New Year, these twelve rooms definitely won't be enough, so we will be building a new batch of deluxe suites soon. The foundation work has already begun."

I gave a soft "oh" and smiled at the women beside me, saying, "It's rare for our family to come out like this, so let's treat ourselves and stay in a deluxe suite, how about it?"

"Let's not, it's too expensive. Let's just stay in a regular suite," Yu Yi and Yu Mei whispered to me, while Ya Shi, Ying Ying, and Ruo Lan looked on with anticipation.

I smiled slightly, waved to Yu Yi and Yu Mei, and then said to the receptionist, "Miss, we've decided to stay in the deluxe suite."

"Oh, okay, please pay the deposit and complete the formalities first, then one of our ladies will escort you there." The receptionist's face was full of smiles; if it weren't for her overly professional demeanor, she would have been quite charming.

A few minutes later, our family of six arrived at the villa we had booked, led by a petite and lovely waitress. Sure enough, upon entering, we saw a large, steaming marble hot spring bath. Beside the bath were lounge chairs, cushions, a coffee table, a beverage machine, a wardrobe, a telephone, and so on. On the left wall near the door was a large mirror, on the right wall hung a large landscape painting, and on the wall directly opposite the door was a large LCD screen.
