Liang Yun kept her eyes open and lay there until the sky began to lighten.

Liang Yun didn't tell Chen Yang that she had returned. She simply sat by the window of her apartment, watching the sunset fade and night fall.
Tall plane trees lined the ground floor, their bright white streetlights almost blinding. The night breeze, seemingly black as well, rustled through the dark green leaves, making a soft, whispering sound before vanishing into the boundless stillness.
It's too quiet, so quiet it's oppressive.
The night's dampness slowly seeped into the air, and distant starlight broke through the thick curtain of the dome, peeking out to shine, clear yet melancholic, like tiny, scattered tears...
Liang Yun unlocked her phone, watched the wallpaper of her and Chen Yang embracing disappear, and sent a text message:
"I'll be back tomorrow. Wait for me for dinner, okay?"
The next day, Liang Yun did not return to the company to report back from her leave. She spent the entire day at home, gathering her courage and strength for the meeting that evening. Finally, just before setting off to see Chen Yang, she believed that at least her appearance had recovered without any flaws.
Chen Yang wore a charcoal gray coat and a light blue shirt with a striped tie tied in a Windsor knot, clearly showing that he had been carefully groomed.
Liang Yun changed into a plain-colored dress: a snow-white round-neck shirt with checkered piping on the cuffs, a blue checkered suspender skirt, and cotton knee-high socks that hugged her straight and shapely legs.
The combination of a white shirt and blue skirt almost resembled a school uniform; her beautiful skin was flawless, and her stunning figure was showcased to its fullest.
Chen Yang was slightly taken aback when he saw her, but immediately pulled her close with pride, his tone deliberately casual, "Dressed so young, you really make me look like an old man!"
Liang Yun forced a smile. "Do you prefer someone younger or someone more mature?"
Chen Yang kissed her forehead. "I'll like anything you wear."
For dinner, they ordered seafood. As always, Chen Yang peeled the crabs, sliced the abalone, and dipped the sashimi in wasabi and sauce before feeding them to Liang Yun.
Liang Yun chewed slowly, a little different from usual. She didn't look like an excited hamster with her eyes shining when she ate her food. That was usually Chen Yang's favorite expression, but it seemed that Liang Yun's enthusiasm had touched him, making even his food taste better.
Liang Yun was looking down, poking at a small piece of lotus root soaked in sweet and sour sauce with her chopsticks, when suddenly a peeled lobster was handed to her. Turning her head, she saw Chen Yang holding a napkin, wiping his hands with practiced elegance, and also wiping the shiny silver seafood tongs beside him.
"Thank you," Liang Yun said.
"What's wrong today? Are you too tired from the business trip?" Chen Yang got up, walked around to the chair on the same side as her, and sat down, changing from facing each other to sitting close together.
Liang Yun lowered her head. "A little." She cut off a piece of lobster meat, forked it, and put it in her mouth.
Before she could even begin to chew, a large hand reached up from behind and forcefully pulled her into his embrace.
Chen Yang cupped her face and kissed her deeply. His tongue pried open Liang Yun's teeth, deftly flipped, and snatched the lobster she had just put in her mouth.
He chewed it a couple of times and swallowed it, a smirk playing on his lips. "Delicious!"
After dinner, Chen Yang, as usual, gentlemanly opened Liang Yun's coat with both hands and draped it over her shoulders. "Let's go home."
Liang Yun knew that he meant: go back to his home.
After closing the door, Chen Yang helped Liang Yun take off her coat, then bent down to take off her shoes, his fingers beginning to wander restlessly along her shapely calves. When he straightened up, he cupped her face and eagerly kissed her.
Liang Yun opened her eyes and looked out through the living room's floor-to-ceiling window at the beach not far away, where waves were rolling in, each one feeling like it was hitting her heart.
