Coming-of-age ceremony on the Mongolian grasslands!

Coming-of- Age Ceremony on the Mongolian Grasslands
As a senior reporter for the People's Daily, I received orders during a work meeting to travel to Inner Mongolia to investigate the customs and traditions of the local ethnic groups. On the plane
to Hohhot, I fell into deep thought; how to conduct research on this vast grassland was indeed a headache. Fortunately, the unique exoticism of the Mongolian grasslands immediately made me forget my work worries. Blue skies and white clouds, green fields and red flowers, flocks of sheep, the aroma of milk wafting in the air—the thousands of miles of northern grasslands, the boundless Gobi Desert—this is the cradle , the birthplace of Mongolian culture. It is full of alluring charm, rich in mystery, and steeped in ancient legends. From the Yinshan rock paintings to the Turkic stone figures, from the land of dinosaurs to the Hongshan Culture, from the Yuan Dynasty's Shangdu to Genghis Khan's mausoleum, from grassland sightseeing to hot springs, whether it's milk tea in a yurt or the songs of a shepherd, whether it's horseback riding or the melody of the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle), all are experiences of nomadic life. But these are the Mongolian cultures that are best known to the general public. As one of the most influential news media outlets in the country, repeatedly reporting on these well-known old Yellow Pages might seem perfunctory. This time, the editor-in-chief's requirement was to uncover new, unusual, and little-known materials! This was precisely what gave me the biggest headache. Exploring the mysterious side of the Mongolian grasslands was indeed no easy task. First, I was completely ignorant about Mongolian culture; my understanding of it was limited to a short introduction in a Mongolian tourist brochure. It seemed the first priority was to find a capable local guide! I received enthusiastic help from the Provincial Cultural Bureau. A seemingly shrewd young Mongolian man joined the mission. From the moment we met, we hit it off immediately. His name was Uto, a native Mongolian, 25 years old, a graduate of Inner Mongolia University specializing in Mongolian culture. On the way back to the hotel, the young man confidently told me that this expedition would definitely yield unexpected results. Seeing his confidence, I smiled with satisfaction. Due to the time constraints of the mission, we decided to depart tomorrow, but where was our destination? What was my target for the interview? My mind went blank, and I felt completely lost. Uto was also puzzled: "Your People's Daily is so big, you've investigated Mongolia countless times, what else is worth investigating?" Then I remembered the editor-in-chief's request: "Sigh, it's just orders from above, saying we need to discover some novel things. It's a real dilemma." I looked up at Uto; he was resting his chin on his hand, seemingly deep in thought. "What, do you have a good idea?" I asked eagerly. After a moment of silence, he spoke: "Well, I know a place where you might find what you're looking for." Hearing this, my eyes lit up, as if I had struck gold. I excitedly grasped the young man's hands: "Brother, you've done me a huge favor! Let's set off tomorrow!" During our conversation after dinner yesterday, I learned that the place we were going to was called Tak Banner, 120 kilometers from Baotou. The majority of the inhabitants there were Lali people (the Lali are a branch of the Mongolian people, also called White Mongols). The Lali people are few in number and prefer not to interact with the outside world. Therefore, few people know about their customs and traditions, and some even believe they don't exist at all. Uto told me that the Lali's sacrificial rites are among the oldest and most mysterious of the Mongolian people. Due to near isolation, they have preserved the most complete and traditional sacrificial procedures. (Due to the progress of the times and culture, the Mongolian people have now eliminated some outdated customs ). It is currently the time for the Mongolians' four annual Genghis Khan commemorations. This interview was a golden opportunity. We boarded a bus to Baotou , and although the journey was arduous, my interest in the Lali people grew stronger! After a long day's travel, I arrived in Baotou, the second largest city in Inner Mongolia. To my shame, my knowledge of Baotou was limited to my fondness for Little Sheep Hot Pot . Unexpectedly, this city was filled with people of all ethnicities, and a middle-aged woman with a full figure was waving warmly at us. As we approached, we learned she was a friend of Uto's, named Nawa. Uto introduced her as a genuine Lali woman, 45 years old, working at the Baotou Cultural Bureau. I warmly shook her hand, my eyes filled with curiosity and excitement! I never imagined that the legendary, mysterious Lali people would be met so easily. During our conversation, I found Nawa to be a very hospitable Mongolian, somewhat different from the Lali people's reputation for a secluded life. I expressed my questions to her. She said, "Maybe it's because I've lived in the city for too long, I feel more like a Han Chinese. Hahahaha..." Her hearty laughter instantly bridged the gap between us. My initial apprehension towards the Lali people eased slightly. We checked into the guesthouse of the Baotou Cultural Bureau . Although we were tired from the journey, we had no desire to rest as soon as we entered the room. Due to time constraints, the three of us had to quickly formulate a research plan for our trip to Lali and decided to set off the next day. During our meeting, Nawa gave me a brief introduction to the Lali. She said that tomorrow was the third day , the last and most important day of the ceremony. Tomorrow would be the Lali people's annual coming-of-age ceremony, also called the Chagan Suluk Festival, where every Lali boy who turned fifteen would participate in the ceremony to become an "adult." What excited me even more was that this ceremony was unique to the Lali people, and they still preserved the complete sacrificial ritual. It included many activities unimaginable in modern society. It was truly enticing. But what Nawa said next was like a bucket of cold water poured over my head. My heart sank. "But outsiders aren't allowed to watch the Lali tribe's coming-of-age ceremony." "Ah... what do we do then? We can't just go for nothing, can we?" I asked helplessly. "Hehe... it's okay, I'll explain to them, hopefully it'll work out." The boy seemed confident. " Then I'll leave it to you." After saying that, my mind was a mess. I hadn't expected this trip to Mongolia to be so difficult. I don't know how long I slept before the boy woke me up; it was already dark. "How did it go?" I asked sleepily. "He agreed. I have to admit you're very lucky. Father is very pleased that you came all this way to watch our ceremony!" The boy smiled slightly. "Hehe... am I dreaming? You're amazing! Thank you so much! After it's all done, come visit me in Beijing, I'll treat you! Haha..." The boy told me to go for a walk, but I was still a little scared from the afternoon's experience, so I just peeked out the door. Unexpectedly, I was immediately captivated by the lively nomadic life . Under a sky full of stars, bonfires burned brightly. People gathered around the fires, talking and singing, the melodious sound of the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle) and the heroic voices of the Mongolian men filling the air.

Mai's singing made me truly feel the fervor and passion of the Mongolian sacrificial ceremony.
Following Nawa's guidance, we arrived at the largest yurt in the center of the settlement. Nawa said it was like a large hall,
a place where the tribe held important events and meetings. Approaching, we found many people already waiting at the entrance. A little nervous, I tugged at Nawa: "What's going on? Is everything alright?"
Nawa laughed, that hearty laugh again. "They're welcoming you!"
Oops, that really startled me. Just then, an elder walked towards me and, unusually, hugged me. I was caught off guard by this sudden gesture, momentarily
at a loss , afraid of doing something wrong. Then the elder spoke, and according to Nawa's translation, I understood the general meaning.
"Today, on this great day, we welcome our distinguished guest. This is the first time the Lali people have ever accepted an outsider to participate in our sacrificial ceremony.
For so many years, the Lali people have lived a secluded life, unknown to the world. This is truly a great regret, and as your
leader, I do not wish to continue this situation. This distinguished guest is an excellent journalist, and today I invite him to join our ceremony. I believe
his arrival will surely bring good fortune to our children! It is time for us to integrate into the larger family of our people!"
Hearing this, I felt much more relaxed, suddenly feeling a sacred mission on my shoulders. Ah… I never imagined the Lali people's temperament could be so fickle. "
This … it is a great honor to be here to interview the Lali people. Everything here feels so wonderful! I love it here, and I am very grateful to everyone for giving me this
rare opportunity!! Thank you!"
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, we entered the yurt amidst the enthusiastic cheers of the Lali people.
Unbelievable !
Stepping into the yurt, a strong, unpleasant odor (the smell of sheep) filled the air. Inside, it felt very warm; the yurt was made of animal hides. The slightly reddish animal hides,
illuminated by a few oil lamps, filled the room with a mysterious atmosphere. The yurt floor was carpeted with sheepskin, very soft to sit on. Several
tables . In the center was a round wooden platform, presumably where coming-of-age ceremonies were held. At first glance, the yurt's decorations were indeed
somewhat simple, but the various foods laid out on the tables caught my eye.
It seemed the Lali people loved dairy products, producing a rich variety of dairy products. The boy told me about Zhehe, milk skin, milk tofu, Tarig,
cheese, fermented mare's milk, and milk wine. Besides the dairy products, what attracted me most was the whole roasted lamb—fragrant, crispy, and delicious—a truly satisfying meal! The feast proceeded
very harmoniously and warmly, with people vying to toast and offer blessings. Of course, I was no exception; after a few rounds, my tolerance for alcohol became quite high. With the meal complete
, the main activities began. At this point, the elder stood up.
"Fellow tribesmen, today is a great day, a sacred day for our children to become men. Our great ancestor Genghis Khan will
forever protect them, and his boundless power will help them become true eagles of the steppe!" The elder's voice was powerful and weathered, resonating deeply.
"How many boys are participating in the coming-of-age ceremony today?" I asked, puzzled, since I hadn't seen the children yet.
"My father said five. All fifteen years old," the boy replied.
"Could you briefly explain the ceremony?" I was already impatient before it even began.
"Hehe...it's best not to tell you yet. You'll have a big discovery later?" the boy said mysteriously.
"Oh? I hope so." The boy's words sparked my imagination.
Just then, the elder announced the start of the ceremony. The entire tribesman began humming a high-pitched song, the atmosphere solemn and dignified. I
held my breath to suppress my excitement. Uto next to me, however, seemed unfazed, still munching on his lamb chop. Seeing his greasy face, I smiled happily
.
The yurt's curtain was opened, and five barefoot boys entered one after another. What surprised me was their attire; they wore
large . Guided by the master of ceremonies, they came to the center of the carpet and faced the elder. Several ceremonial officials, their faces veiled with black gauze, then
offered each boy a cup of sheep's milk wine. After the children accepted the wine, the elder spoke.
"The grasslands nurtured you, the grasslands raised you, the grasslands are your stage to achieve great things. You, like the great leader Genghis Khan, roamed the same
grasslands, the same blood flowing in your veins! Children, fulfill your mission like Genghis Khan!"
With that, the five children raised their cups and drank them down. Just then, the yurt's curtain was opened again. Five women, seemingly middle-aged, entered,
also barefoot and wearing large robes. This puzzled me greatly.
"Who are they?" I asked eagerly.
"They are all the children's mothers. They are also participants in this ceremony," Nawa said.
"Oh... I see. Looks like the ceremony is quite lively."
Just as I finished speaking, something unexpected happened. The mother and child removed their long robes, revealing nothing underneath—they were completely
naked . I was stunned by what I saw.
"My God! What are they doing?" I asked frantically.
"Don't be nervous, I told you you'd have a big discovery," the child said calmly.
I looked at Uto beside me; he seemed even more surprised than I was. "
The coming-of-age ceremony
," the child joked, "They play the role of untamed wild horses. Tonight, these children will complete the task of taming them."
"What? Is this a joke?" I asked, bewildered.
"No, it's not a joke. This is a sacrificial ceremony passed down through our Lari tribe from several years ago," the child said seriously. "Let me put it
bluntly the son must bond with the mother to complete the step towards adulthood."
Uto and I were speechless, staring at each other in disbelief. Meanwhile, five naked mothers, guided by the emcee, lined up and
lay prone on the carpet, their snow-white buttocks raised high. Their private parts were completely exposed to everyone's gaze. The boys remained standing as the emcee
applied a kind of ointment to their penises; the boy said this ointment, made from goat's milk, served as a lubricant.
A mother near my table appeared to be in her forties, a typical Mongolian woman with a full figure, fair skin, and
a pair of full breasts. Her expression seemed quite natural, without any sense of shame. She was calling her son. The smallest
boy among the five walked over; he looked shy, still somewhat childish, with a rosy blush on his round face. It was unclear whether this was natural or something else.
Shy. In stark contrast to his bashful face, his genitals stood proudly erect, exuding an imposing aura. His penis was covered in a milky-white paste.
The boy knelt behind his mother, his hands supporting her buttocks. At this moment, Uto and I held our breath in suspense. Such a scene was unimaginable in
modern society. The boy seemed to sense my thoughts.
"What's wrong? Are you having trouble accepting it?"
"This… I'm sorry, this is indeed the first time I've seen something like this."
"It's alright, I understand. This might be wrong where you are, but in Larry it's sacred and noble."
Sacred and noble. Those words still echoed in my mind, refusing to fade.
Until all five boys were ready. The elder stood up: "The moment when the children become adults is about to arrive. Conquer
the grasslands like heroes!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a high-pitched song rang out again. Under their mother's guidance, the children carefully inserted their still-immature penises into her body. At
this moment, my heart almost stopped. With their sexual organs fully joined, the son began slow thrusting. The sticky, viscous penis rubbed against the mother's body,
producing a clear sound—an indescribable sound that rhythmically continued amidst the soaring song.
An exchange of souls.
Suddenly, a serious question occurred to me: would these children ejaculate inside their mothers? Judging from the signs just now, neither mother nor child seemed
to have used any contraception. When I told the child this question, she laughed.
"Contraception has long been practiced. Before the ceremony, the mother consumes our ancestral herbs, which have a very strong anti-nausea effect. We've
used this method for thousands of years."
Hearing this, I was greatly surprised. I hadn't expected this small Lari tribe to possess such abilities; truly remarkable.
The boy continued, "A boy must ejaculate inside his mother's body, and not a single drop can be wasted. In the Lari tribe, semen represents the soul,
the essence of the male body. A boy is born without a soul; it is given to him by his mother. During his coming-of-age ceremony, the boy ejaculates his
first drop of virginity into his mother's body, signifying that he has returned the soul his mother gave him to her." The boy spoke earnestly. "This is also
an explanation to his mother for the fifteen years of nurturing he has received, returning the child's soul to truly become a man and begin his independent life."
"Please continue," I said, listening intently.
"The Lari people also believe that bonding not only allows for the exchange of souls but also the transmission of survival experience. At birth, a child takes away not only the soul given by the mother but also her
survival experience. Before the coming-of-age ceremony, the child's previous survival experience is no longer sufficient for their future life, so they need to re-enter the mother's
body to absorb her rich survival experience. From then until the child's marriage, they must have sexual intercourse with the mother once a year on their birthday. This is also
an important step for the child towards adulthood."
I looked at the mother and son in front of me, still continuing their so-called sacred sexual intercourse. What a harmonious scene! There was no carnal desire, no evil thoughts,
only a sacred union built on the highest spiritual world. The boy's bronze skin and the mother's snow-white body slowly blurred and merged completely before my eyes.
The mother's serene expression swayed back and forth with her son's thrusts, her prominent breasts swaying incessantly. The boy looked very serious, his expression calm
and unaffected by pleasure. He really looked like a Mongolian man whipping his horse.
"Why use this position?" I saw the mother, her hips raised high, ask the boy in confusion.
"First of all, the meaning of this position is to express conquest. As mentioned before, the mother plays the role of an untamed wild horse. Boys must first conquer
the wild horse before they have the courage to conquer the grassland. And men must first conquer women before
they have the courage to conquer the world. In the Lari people, the mother is considered the best of all women. The children riding on their mother and ejaculating inside her is the best proof of their complete conquest of her." The child answered patiently.
At this moment, I saw the boy in front of me speed up his thrusting. He was about to climax. The sticky paste previously applied to his penis had turned into liquid under repeated friction,
and the unusually clear friction sound gradually disappeared. The boy hugged his mother's snow-white buttocks and began to groan loudly. After the last thrust, he thrust his hips forward and
began to twitch rhythmically. It seemed that he was ejaculating inside his mother.
After the climax, the boy lay on his mother, panting. Sex had exhausted the boy's strength. At this moment, the mother turned her head and smiled, murmuring
something to him. Beside them, two other children continued their activity, seemingly about to finish their intercourse soon. At this point, the emcee called for the children who had finished to leave
their mothers ' bodies. The boy carefully withdrew his already limp penis. The mothers didn't get up; they remained in their original positions. Several emcees
were wiping their genitals with hot towels.
"Why can't they get up?" I asked the child.
"They can't get up yet because the semen is the son's soul. To prevent the semen from leaking out and to better absorb the children's semen, they must
maintain this position for a while," the child said with a smile.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere didn't dampen after the group sex ended; instead, people began singing even more joyfully. The emcees brought out a sumptuous feast.
After the mothers left, several Larry girls went to the carpet where the mothers and children had intercourse and danced joyfully. The atmosphere reached another climax.
"The ceremony ended successfully, and everyone is happy for the children's performance," the child said with a smile.
Uto and I were also infected by the atmosphere and danced with them.
