Soon after, King Tang led the armies of the feudal lords to attack the licentious and tyrannical Xia Jie. Xia Jie, by this time, had lost his former vigor due to excessive indulgence, and with an empty treasury and widespread desertion, he was no match for King Tang's benevolent army. Finally, while fleeing to Mingtiao, he was captured by King Tang's men and imprisoned. Remembering that Tang had previously released him, Tang only ordered the execution of Mei Xi, exiling Xia Jie to Nanchao, where he later died. Tang then ascended to the throne and established the Shang Dynasty.
