【Resent to Chunxiang】

    page views:1  Publication date:2023-03-24
In the first year of the Mingdao reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty, a
legendary story of "a concubine ruining a family" unfolded in Lu Ning Coast, Zhejiang, which is today's Hangzhou.
Near the Guanyin Temple north of Zhong'an Bridge in Hangzhou, there lived a merchant named Qiao Jun, courtesy name Yanjie, originally from Qiantang
. He lost his parents at a young age, was tall and strong, and was known for his lust and greed.
Qiao Jun and his wife, Gao, were both forty years old. They had no sons, only an eighteen-year-old daughter,
nicknamed Yuxiu. The three of them lived harmoniously.
They also had a servant named Sai'er.
Qiao Jun seemed to have a fortune of thirty to fifty thousand strings of cash. He specialized in collecting silk in Chongde, Chang'an, transporting it to Kaifeng and Luoyang for sale,
and also buying dates, walnuts, and other goods to sell back in his hometown. He was away from home for half the year.
Sai'er opened a tavern in front of their shop, and they also hired a winemaker named Hong San to make wine at home.
Qiao Jun's wife, Gao, managed the tavern's daily finances and other ordinary affairs.
In the spring of the second year of the Mingdao era, after selling silk in Kaifeng, Qiao Jun bought walnuts, dates, and other mountain goods. He hired a boat
to transport them back to Hangzhou for sale. The boat reached the Xinhe River near Nanjing and was about to set sail when a strong wind prevented it from doing so.
For three days in a row, the wind howled, making it impossible for the boat to sail.
Qiao Jun was anxious and stood at the bow of his boat watching the sky. Suddenly, he saw a beautiful woman on a neighboring boat; her skin was as white
as snow, and her hair was styled in a cloud-like bun.
Upon seeing this, Qiao Jun was immediately filled with lust…
He quietly inquired of the boatman on the neighboring boat, “Who are your passengers? Why are there women on board?”
The boatman replied, “On board is the family of Inspector Zhou of Jiankang Prefecture, who has died of illness. They are escorting his coffin back to Shandong
. This young woman is the Inspector’s concubine…”
Qiao Jun was overjoyed and said to the boatman, “Sir, please ask the Inspector’s wife for me.
If she is willing to remarry this concubine, I am willing to give her a generous dowry to take her as a concubine. If this can be accomplished,
I will give you five taels of silver.”
The boatman then went down to the cabin and asked the wife, “Madam, is this concubine willing
to remarry?
” The First Madam had always disliked the concubine's arrogance and desire to get rid of her as soon as possible. Hearing the boatman's
question, she was delighted and immediately replied, "Do you have any good connections? If someone wants to marry her, I
will definitely agree, for a dowry of one thousand strings of cash."
The boatman was overjoyed; it seemed he had made a profit of five taels of silver.
He quickly replied, "A date merchant on the neighboring boat wants to take a concubine and specifically sent me to
inquire with the First Madam."
The First Madam immediately agreed.
The boatman told Qiao Jun, "The First Madam has agreed, but she requires a dowry of one thousand strings of cash!"
Qiao Jun was overjoyed at such a bargain. He immediately opened his chest, took out one thousand strings of cash, and gave it to the boatman to deliver to
the First Madam's boat.
The First Madam accepted the dowry and instructed the boatman to invite Qiao Jun to her boat.
Qiao Jun changed his clothes and went to the neighboring boat to pay his respects to the First Madam.
After the lady of the house learned his origin and surname, she called the concubine to her side and said, "Our
husband is dead, and we are all alone. I have decided to marry you off to this gentleman as a concubine. Now, go
with Master Qiao to his boat. Hangzhou is a big city; you will live a comfortable life in your next life. Be careful
in serving him and don't be careless."
In ancient times, the words of the first wife were commands, and the concubine dared not disobey. So she bid farewell to the first
wife with Qiao Jun.
Qiao Jun took five taels of silver and rewarded the boatman.
He and the woman returned to his boat, and the more he looked at her, the more he liked her. He asked her, "What is your name?"
The woman replied, "My name is Chunxiang, and I am twenty-five years old."
That night, Qiao Jun embraced Chunxiang, lay down in the cabin, stripped her naked, and indulged in revelry...
Chunxiang was fair-skinned and beautiful, with a captivating charm, indeed more lively and lovely than the old hag at home!
The next day, the sky was clear, the wind was calm, and the waves were still. All the boats, large and small, set
sail. Qiao Jun's boat traveled for five or six days before reaching Beixin Pass. He disembarked, hired a sedan
chair to carry Chunxiang, and followed it into Wulin Gate. Arriving at his own doorstep, he alighted from the sedan chair and dismissed the bearers.
Qiao Jun led Chunxiang into his home. He first went to the inner hall to meet Madam Gao and told her about taking a concubine
before coming out to lead Chunxiang in to pay her respects.
When Gao saw Chunxiang, she was consumed by jealousy and said, "Husband, now that you've married her, I can't
refuse. If you agree to two things, I'll allow you to stay."
Qiao Jun asked, "What are the two things?"
Gao said, "First, you must move her elsewhere; she's not allowed to stay at home."
Qiao Jun replied, "That's easy; I'll rent her another room."
Gao added, "Second, from today onwards, I will no longer live with you. All the money, belongings,
jewelry, and clothes in the house belong to me and our daughter Yuxiu; you're not allowed to ask for them."
Qiao Jun pondered for a long time, thinking, "If I don't agree, life will be even harder."
So Qiao Jun said, "Alright, I'll do as you say!"
The next morning, Qiao Jun got up early, went to the dock to unload his goods and luggage, then rented a
house. On an auspicious day, Qiao Jun, along with Zhou Shi, moved in.
Time flies like an arrow, and more than half a year has passed in the blink of an eye.
Qiao Jun collected some accounts, added his own savings, and calculated that he had enough capital to start his business again
.
So he told Chunxiang, "Be patient, I'll be back in two months at most."
Then, Qiao Jun went home to explain the family matters to Gao Shi, and then went out to board a boat and set off.
Two months passed, and Chunxiang waited at home day and night, leaning against the door, waiting for her husband to return.
It's winter again.
That year, it was bitterly cold. Suddenly one night, dark clouds gathered, and a heavy snow fell.
Gao, a kind-hearted woman, pondered why her husband, who had left, hadn't returned by winter. She asked
Sai'er to bring some firewood, rice, charcoal, and money to Chunxiang's house.
Also, considering that Chunxiang was alone and needed someone to help, she had Sai'er stay at Chunxiang's house to serve her.
Gao herself sold wine in front of her door.
Unexpectedly, Chunxiang was a naturally promiscuous woman.
From the moment Sai'er arrived, she took a liking to him.
Sai'er was twenty years old, with a square figure, a broad chest, shiny hair, and a pair of bright,
cheerful eyes beneath thick eyebrows…
Chunxiang often cooked hot meals for Sai'er.
Seeing that Chunxiang was alone, Sai'er worked even more diligently.
Chunxiang often flirted with him, and Sai'er was interested, but dared not take the first step.
One night, on the 30th of December, Chunxiang asked Sai'er to buy some wine, meat, and fish for the New Year.
That evening, Chunxiang told Sai'er to close the door, heat a pot of wine on the stove, cook some meat, set up a brazier,
and light a lamp, placing them on the table by her bed in her room.
Sai'er tended the fire, and Chunxiang gently patted her shoulder.
"Sai'er, come to my room and get something to eat."
Sai'er entered the room, and Chunxiang sat on the bed, striking a seductive pose.
"Sai'er, come keep me company. I'll drink a couple of cups of wine with you, and you can sleep in my room tonight!"
"I wouldn't dare."
Chunxiang scolded him a couple of times, "Fool!"
Saying this, she put her arms around Sai'er, dragged her to the bed, and the two sat down side by side.
Chunxiang poured the wine, and the two of them shared a cup, taking turns sipping, drinking five or six cups in total.
Chunxiang then hugged Sai'er and gave him a warm kiss on the cheek.
"You sleep outside, I sleep inside, it's so cold and unbearable. You're such a fool, not listening to me."
Upon hearing this, Sai'er knelt on the ground and said, "I am grateful for your kindness, my lady. I have long harbored this intention, but I dared not
speak it. Today, my lady has shown me such favor; I can never repay this kindness, even with my life."
Chunxiang was overjoyed upon hearing this and immediately stripped off her clothes, falling onto the bed…
Sai'er's eyes widened, her mouth watering uncontrollably, her heart pounding so hard it almost jumped out of her throat

Chunxiang's white flesh was like white jade, so white, tender, smooth, and fragrant…
Her two high, firm breasts trembled slightly, rising and falling with her breath, full of youthful charm…
Her two white thighs parted lewdly, slightly revealing that hairy, dark cave
… Sai'er could no longer contain his burning desire. In a flash, he stripped off all his clothes,
leaped onto the bed, straddled Chunxiang's body, and pressed down on her with all his might…
Chunxiang's legs, like water snakes, tightly coiled around her waist, shaking wildly…
Sai'er gritted his teeth, using all his strength to attack and retreat, rising and falling…
Chunxiang felt her blood boiling, as if she were floating on air, and couldn't help but let out a wanton cry…
This cry ignited Sai'er's own desire. He cried out, and a torrent of fluid gushed forth…
From then on, Chunxiang and Sai'er lived together like husband and wife, their lives intertwined.
This affair, naturally, was difficult to hide from the neighbors, and soon the news spread throughout the neighborhood, eventually reaching the ears of the Gao family.
Madam Gao was a very virtuous and chaste woman, and she didn't quite believe this, but just in case, she had
Chunxiang and Wang'er move into her home so she could keep an eye on them.
After moving into Madam Gao's residence, Chunxiang and Wang'er found it very inconvenient to sneak around under her watchful eye
.
Finally, Chunxiang devised a clever plan.
Madam Gao's daughter, Yuxiu, was eighteen years old and very beautiful, so Chunxiang told Wang'er to flirt with her.
Yuxiu was a young woman, and of course she wouldn't allow herself to be flirted with by a servant.
However, girls are shy and dared not speak out.
Seeing that one plan had failed, Chunxiang devised another.
One day, she invited Yuxiu to her room for tea, then slipped a sleeping potion into it. After Yuxiu drank it, she fell into a deep
sleep. Chunxiang then opened the door and let Sai'er in, stripped Yuxiu naked, and raped her…
When Yuxiu woke up, she realized she had been defiled and cried bitterly.
Chunxiang tried to comfort her.
In ancient times, a woman's chastity was more important than anything else, and Yuxiu, having lost her virginity, dared not speak out.
Sai'er seized on this weakness, threatening her to continue offering herself. Yuxiu dared not resist and had no choice but to have sex with him.
Chunxiang had dragged Yuxiu into this affair, making it easier for her to have an affair with Sai'er, and the three of them continued their illicit affair.
Not long after, Yuxiu was taking a bath in her room when Gao entered. Seeing that her daughter's body had changed drastically, she knew she had
been raped and interrogated her.
Unable to deny it any longer, Yuxiu had no choice but to tell the truth: "I was raped by Sai'er."
Madam Gao cried out in despair, "It's all Chunxiang's doing!"
Madam Gao thought to herself, if word got out, how would her daughter ever marry?
She frowned, a plan forming in her mind: only by killing Sai'er could she eliminate the future trouble!
Before long, it was the Mid-Autumn Festival in August. Madam Gao deliberately arranged a family banquet, especially rewarding Sai'er with two large bowls of wine.
Sai'er dared not refuse, drinking it all in one gulp, and before she knew it, she was drunk and collapsed to the ground.
Madam Gao first told Yuxiu to go to sleep, then calmly ordered Chunxiang to bring a hemp rope and strangle Sai'er!
Upon hearing this, Chunxiang trembled with fear.
"It's all because of you, you slut, that you committed adultery with him, thus ruining my daughter, and you're still helping him?"
Gao cursed loudly, and Chunxiang, having no other choice, went to the room to fetch a hemp rope. Together with Gao, they strangled
Sai'er to death!
The body was left unattended, and Sai'er's corpse was difficult to dispose of.
Gao then summoned the winemaker, Hong San, and ordered him to throw the body into the river.
Hong San, seeing this, was overjoyed and embraced Gao, saying, "If you don't sleep with me, I'll
report you to the authorities for murder, and you'll both be beheaded!"
Gao, a woman of pure virtue, now had her life threatened and, with no other option,
had to offer herself to Hong San for rape.
Hong San then raped Chunxiang and Yuxiu as well, becoming the head of the household. He was a cunning man; before
Qiao Jun returned, he took Gao, Chunxiang, and Yuxiu and fled, disappearing without a trace.
After the New Year, Qiao Jun returned home to find himself penniless and heartbroken, only then regretting his decision to take a concubine.
