trip down the mountain: One late spring evening in the nineteenth year of the reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang, in Yingkou, a major city in Northeast China, at the Gao family compound.
Outside the Gao family compound, all was quiet except for the chirping of insects. Inside the spacious bedroom
of the Gao family, bright torches illuminated several mournful faces. The venerable Old Master Gao, his wife, two concubines, and the steward were
bound hand and foot, unable to move.
Old Master Gao, indeed a man of the world, remained unfazed even facing several masked men. The others
were all terrified, their faces ashen, trembling like leaves.

Suddenly, the fifth brother tugged at my clothes and whispered, "Brother, what do you think of this one?" We
looked in the direction he pointed, and saw a range of gray-green mountains, no different from the others. The eighth brother scoffed and
said, "Fifth brother, your judgment isn't that great either."
The fifth brother kicked him and said, "You don't know anything! This mountain may look no different from others, but
it's self-contained, with cliffs on three sides. Only this side is accessible, making it a good place." Indeed, a
good place. We split into two groups, one exploring the terrain to see if there were other ways to ascend. After nearly two hours,
we regrouped. The consensus was: the mountainside had three cliffs over twenty feet high, covered in vines, with a stream

. I led the third and fifth brothers to explore from north to south, while the others went from east to west.
I carried the sword we'd seized from the Gao family, while the third and fifth brothers carried their long knives. We carefully cleared
a path through the branches and weeds. The mountaintop and its slopes were nothing but forest; the north side was blocked by a cliff.
We even managed to hunt a few rabbits. Reaching the south side, we were surprised to find another cliff. Suddenly, the sharp-eyed
fifth brother spotted a small cave and rushed in, chasing away the snakes and rats. It turned out to be much more spacious inside. It was about two zhang
high, one zhang deep, and over four zhang wide. The fifth brother used his knife to clear away the branches and waist-high weeds at the entrance.
The cave immediately became much brighter.
"This cave could serve as a meeting place for brothers to discuss important matters, but it's a bit too dark,"
I said, somewhat disappointed. While the third and fifth brothers carefully examined the cave, I daydreamed, envisioning how to arrange this future
meeting place.
The cave was fairly flat; we could level it with gravel and then lay stone slabs on top. The uneven stone walls were
minor issues. The real problem was the lack of light. Fifth Brother, perched on Third Brother's shoulders, was looking at something, but Third Brother kept telling him he
was too heavy and to get down.
Fifth Brother went outside and soon poked his head in through a five-foot square hole in the stone wall.
He had cleared away the weeds outside, making the inside of the cave no different from the outside.

"That's easy to fix. Just dig a ditch outside the hole to drain the rainwater, and add a roof over it."
"Alright, let's go see what they've found over there." The front of the mountain was like this; maybe there was
a better spot on the back.
Fifth Brother, carrying the rabbit he'd hunted, hurriedly followed.
Fourth Brother, seeing the several plump rabbits, kept urging us to roast them and eat them. We quickly grabbed a knife and got to work.
The front mountain connecting to the back mountain is a narrow-at-the-top, wide-at-the-bottom section, about six feet wide and two zhang (approximately 6.6 meters) in length, covered with
wild grass and vines on the black soil. The second brother and his men had already cleared a path.
We climbed the back mountain and, following the trail, soon found the second brother. He seemed very excited and quickly reported
that this back mountain was the real gem. A large forest, at least six or seven thousand acres, covered the summit,
with many towering trees that would take two people to encircle.
The other three went to the mountainside, while the second brother led the way, reporting as he went. The fifth brother whistled, and
a response immediately came from the southern mountainside. The four of us followed the sound downwards. Hearing our voices,

The front mountain was only a mile from the Sui River; a floating dock would be secretly built in the reeds along the river for
loading and unloading goods by small boats.
Ten bunkers and sentry posts would be set up along both sides of the main road leading up the front mountain. These would serve to monitor incoming enemies and
provide covert fire support. The third brother would be responsible for assigning personnel to the bunkers and sentries.
The open space on the front mountain would be filled in and used as a drill ground for checking personnel before leaving the mountain.
A road would be paved from the drill ground to a cave on the front mountain, which would then be used as a meeting hall.
The path at Niubozi would be paved with stone slabs and seven feet wide.
