[Cause and Effect]

This is a story of karmic retribution for adultery with another man's wife and daughter, and the wife and daughter's adultery with another man.
During the Yuan Dynasty, there was a young man from a prominent family named Tie Rong. His ancestor was an imperial censor, and his wife, Di, was renowned for her beauty
throughout the city.
In that area, it was customary for wealthy families to flaunt their wives' beauty. A family that married a beautiful woman was not only afraid others wouldn't know,
but they would also go around showing her off, going out to be seen by others.
On beautiful mornings and evenings, amidst the bustling crowds, women would jokingly rub shoulders, their eyes meeting and their hearts darting around, yet they remained oblivious.
Returning home at night, they would gossip and comment, saying which woman was the best, which woman the second best, their
praises flowing freely, regardless of whether their husbands heard them. Even if their husbands did hear, they would only think it was praise for their wives' beauty, secretly
pleased with themselves.
Even if someone made a few sarcastic remarks, they would not take it to heart.
Tie Rong, having married a beautiful wife, couldn't wait for her to go around flaunting her beauty. Wherever she went, everyone who saw her praised
her.
Those who knew Tiesheng teased and praised him, needless to say. But those who didn't know him, upon seeing
Di Shi and learning she was Tiesheng's wife, would flock to her, flirting with her, offering her food and drink, praising her as a fortunate and
blessed man, and flattering her relentlessly.
Therefore, Tiesheng didn't need to carry a single penny; this group of people would invite him to drink and eat, always
returning home drunk and full. Everyone in the city knew him, and everyone harbored some wicked intentions, trying to seduce
his wife.
Only Tiesheng, being from a wealthy family and somewhat hot-tempered, dared not provoke him lightly without reason, and could
only swallow their saliva, seeking some advantage in appearance and words.
As the ancients aptly put it: "Deception invites theft, and alluring beauty invites lust."
Di Shi was so beautiful; in this climate, how could she, pure and innocent, remain untouched after her death? Naturally, trouble arose.
As the saying goes, "no coincidence is too much to tell," and at that time, there was a man in the same village named Hu Jing, whose wife, Men, was also very
beautiful. Although slightly less beautiful than Di, she was still a woman of exceptional beauty, and if Di were not around, no one could rival her
.
This Hu Jing was also a libertine, and despite having such a beautiful woman,
he felt resentful that Di had taken her place. Unexpectedly, Tie Sheng, upon seeing Men, also envied her and thought of having both beauties at once, thus
fulfilling his desire.
Therefore, the two harbored mutual ulterior motives, became close friends, and agreed to a marriage alliance, willingly sharing his wife with everyone
.
Tie Sheng was straightforward, while Hu was cunning. Tie Sheng often hinted at his intention to seduce Hu's wife.
Hu, playing along, used flattering words to win Tie Sheng's heart, leaving him with no way to refuse.
Tie Sheng thought Hu Sheng was easy to talk to and could be used for schemes, but little did he know that Hu Sheng was actually planning to use this opportunity to seduce Di Shi, yet he didn't reveal
any flaws. Tie Sheng said to Di Shi, "Everyone says you are the most beautiful woman, but in my opinion, Hu Sheng's wife is
no less beautiful than you. How can I devise a way to get her? If I could have both beauties, I would die happy."
Di Shi said, "You and Hu Sheng are so close, you can't tell him the truth."
Tie Sheng said, "I have hinted at my intentions before, and he didn't seem to mind. But how can I be so direct? It must be you who makes
the first move for me to succeed. I'm afraid you'll be jealous and give in."
Di Shi said, "I've never been jealous. I can help." "Everywhere you go, I'll help you, but there's one thing: women's business
is private, how can you offend him? Unless you and Mr. Hu are intimate, and your wives and children are completely open with each other
, and you frequently bring him to my house, then I can find an opportunity to get my hands on you."
Tie Sheng said, "My wise wife's words are very reasonable."
From then on, he became even more familiar with Mr. Hu, frequently bringing him to his house for drinks, even inviting his wife over, with Di Shi accompanying them.
Outside, he frequently entertained famous courtesans and patrons, both to please Mr. Hu and to arouse the desires of his wife.
During banquets, Di Shi would lead his wife to peek out from behind a curtain. Seeing the lewd and flirtatious acts outside, even
Shiwa and Mu Meiren would be aroused. Both men harbored wicked intentions, flirting
and scheming to win over the beautiful women.
Unexpectedly, one of the women watching from inside became aroused first. It turned out that although Lady Men was also peeping,
she was a guest and somewhat restrained, unlike Lady Di, who was in her own room, freely observing and arousing her desires.
Hu Sheng was superior to Tie Sheng not only in appearance, but also in his charming demeanor, gentle personality, and refined manners
.
Lady Di, on the other hand, was captivated, frequently revealing her lustful desire behind the curtain, and becoming even more determined to peep, showing no sign of fatigue.
Tie Sheng was happy to have a wife who was a great help to him, but little did he know the true meaning behind it. After drinking, Tie Sheng said to Hu Sheng, "You and
I each have beautiful wives, and we get along extremely well. This is truly rare."
Hu Sheng humbly replied, "My wife is plain and simple; how can she compare to your sister-in-law's perfect beauty?"
Tie Sheng said, "In my opinion, they are equally good. It's just one thing; if we each keep our own, there's no
difference. Why don't we exchange wives and enjoy each other's beauty? What do you think?"
This remark hit Hu Sheng's deepest point. Hu Sheng feigned ignorance and replied, "My wife is plain and simple. Although I am honored by this compliment, I
dare not offend your sister-in-law."
Tie Sheng laughed and said, "We have been drunk and carefree here, completely forgetting ourselves."
They laughed heartily and parted ways.
Tiesheng entered, slightly drunk, and looked at Di Shi. He lifted her chin and said, "I'd like to offer you to the Hu family for a swap,
what do you say?"
Di Shi feigned anger, "You foolish turtle! You're from a good family. You want to steal another man's wife, yet you're willing to give up your own
wife's body. How can you say such a thing?"
Tiesheng said, "We're family friends, what's wrong with each other benefiting?"
Di Shi said, "I'm fine with helping you out in the house, but I wouldn't do this."
Tiesheng said, "I was just joking. Do you really think I'd give you up? I just want to seduce him
."
Di Shi said, "This can't be rushed. You just need to please Hu Sheng. He might not be as shrewd as you, and he
might not be unwilling to give up his wife." Tiesheng embraced Di Shi and said, "My virtuous wife, you're right."
They went to the room together and slept.
Now, although Madam Di had fallen for Hu Sheng, she worried about Tie Sheng's temperament. She thought, "He was just thinking about seducing
Madam Men and said those foolish things in his excitement. What if he finds out after we've done it? He might become suspicious and get in my way."
"My foot is definitely not good. How can I just use some tricks to do it secretly, without him knowing, so I can live a peaceful and happy life?"
He had already made up his mind. One day, Hu Sheng went to Tie Sheng's house for drinks again. This time, it was just the two of them; there were no other guests.
Di Shi kept coming back and forth behind the curtain to signal to Hu Sheng. Hu Sheng understood, and while he didn't drink much, he poured a large bowl of wine for
Tie Sheng, coaxing him, "I have always been favored by you, brother, even more than by blood. You think of my wife, and she admires
you too. I spoke to her, and she's somewhat willing. I just need you to look after me and first
invite me to host a hundred or so prostitutes, then we can make this happen." Tie Sheng said, "If you're willing to do it, I'll host a thousand prostitutes
."
Seeing that he was so happy, Tie Sheng poured a large bowl of wine, and Hu Sheng just used flattering words to coax him to drink. Before long ,
he was completely drunk.
Hu Sheng helped Tie Sheng through the curtain. Di Shi, who was standing by the curtain, never hesitated to help him in.
Tie Sheng, oblivious to this, leaned his lips towards Di Shi's face as if to kiss her. Di Shi then hooked his foot with her toe
and quietly instructed her maids, Yan Xue and Qing Yun, to help their mistress inside.
Once Hu Sheng and Di Shi were alone inside the curtain, Hu Sheng embraced her tightly, and Di Shi returned the embrace. Hu Sheng used one hand
to fondle her breasts and the other to caress her buttocks.
Di Shi rubbed her vulva against Hu Sheng's erection.
Hu Sheng pleaded, "I have longed for this moment so much. Today, to achieve this heavenly pleasure is a blessing beyond measure."
Di Shi replied, "I have long desired this; there is no need for further words."
With that, she rustled down her trousers and sat on a chair in the hall, raising her legs to reveal her moist
vulva, her alluring eyes gleaming seductively.
Hu Sheng hurriedly took out his hard object and, looking at the white-skinned, red-fleshed cave, thrust it in with a "whoosh."
Di Shi let out a soft "Oh," raising her pink legs high, letting Hu Sheng begin his lovemaking.
It was laughable that Tie Sheng, greedy for Hu's wife, had been defiled by Hu Sheng first.
Hu Sheng, skilled in amorous affairs, used his techniques to his heart's content. Di Shi was overjoyed and instructed Hu Sheng, "Don't let this slip
."
Hu Sheng replied, "Thank you, sister-in-law, for not abandoning me and granting me this pleasure. But since you've been with me for so long, it's
no problem if you already know."
Di Shi said, "My husband speaks because of his greed. Although he is lustful, he is also straightforward and honest. Don't provoke him.
It's best to use a trick to deceive him and enjoy your pleasure privately; that will be the most convenient way."
Hu Sheng asked, "How should I use a trick?" Di Shi said, "He's a womanizer. Find some famous courtesans and
take him to eat..." "If he doesn't return, we can have a good time all night," said Hu Sheng.
Hu Sheng replied, "That's a very good idea. He just tried to seduce my wife, promising me a hundred hostesses at the brothel. I
'll use this opportunity to have one or two good courtesans keep him occupied; he won't be able to resist. The only problem is how to get enough money
to support him."
Di Shi said, "That's mostly on me."
Hu Sheng said, "Seeing how thoughtful you are, I'll risk my life to keep you company."
They agreed on their plan and went their separate ways.
It turned out that the Hu family was poor, while the Tie family was rich. Tie Sheng befriended Hu Sheng through food and drink, and Hu Sheng flattered
him, but Tie Sheng's scheme backfired. Although Tie Sheng's family was wealthy, he squandered his ancestral fortune on wine and women.
Then, Di Shi became involved with Hu Sheng, providing him with entertainment every day, while Di Shi herself enjoyed herself with Hu Sheng.
Di Shi was excessively fond of Tie Sheng and spared no expense. Taking advantage of Tie Sheng's lustful nature, she and Hu Sheng flattered and fawned over him, even
selling off their property.
Di Shi also hid some money to secretly support Hu Sheng.
Hu Sheng, having found a famous courtesan, led Tie Sheng there for a life of pleasure, spending his days and nights drinking and not returning home.
Di Shi would also send her husband her hidden possessions from time to time to help with his food, drink, and entertainment, as long as he didn't return home,
she would indulge in revelry with Hu Sheng.
Tie Sheng thought his wife was virtuous and not jealous, and became even more unrestrained, feeling quite pleased with himself. Two days later, when he returned home, Di Shi was overjoyed to see him, showing
no sign of anger or jealousy. Tie Sheng was extremely grateful and even dreamed that his wife was a good person.
One day, just as she had prepared wine and fruit to enjoy with Hu Sheng, Tie Sheng returned home and asked, "Why have you prepared
wine?"
Di Shi replied, "Knowing you were returning today, I feared you would be lonely, so I arranged this. I've already sent someone to invite Hu Sheng to keep
you company."
Tie Sheng said, "My wife understands my heart."
A moment later, Hu Sheng indeed arrived, and Tie Sheng enjoyed himself immensely with him. Their conversation revolved around what happened at the brothel entrance. Sometimes, when drunk, they
would provoke the brothel's women.
Hu Sheng said, "Now that you have such famous courtesans to associate with, why bother with this lowly woman?
" Indeed, he didn't mind her ugliness; he would find a way to get his hands on her.
Tie Sheng was endlessly grateful, but despite saying this, he was constantly lured to brothels by Hu Sheng, becoming drunk and
disoriented, leaving him no time to indulge in any romantic pursuits with the brothel's women. Hu Sheng and Di Shi, however, were deeply in love, spending every night
together.
With Tiesheng at home, it wasn't very convenient. Hu Sheng, however, had a method for getting drunk easily, which he secretly taught Di Shi
. After only ten or so cups, she would be completely drunk and slumped over, only wanting to sleep.
Since learning this method, even at home, Tiesheng would only drink a few cups with Di Shi or Hu Sheng before collapsing into a drunken stupor.
Hu Sheng would then come out and exchange wine with Di Shi, spending the whole night laughing and lewdly playing around, and Tiesheng remained oblivious.
One day, upon returning home, he caught Hu Sheng and Di Shi drinking merrily. Hu Sheng hurriedly fled, leaving the cups and plates in disarray
.
When Tiesheng asked, Di Shi simply said that a relative had come to stay for dinner, and she had run away to avoid being forced to drink more.
Tiesheng didn't press the matter further, simply believing Di Shi's previous statement about not being able to exchange wine, considering her a virtuous
person. Hu Sheng was obsequious and flattering, never wanting to miss an opportunity. He spent his days with prostitutes and drinkers, and Tie Sheng never suspected anything .
Besides, two people with ulterior motives are one without, and with the maid's help, any minor clues were concealed . Tie Sheng outwardly considered Hu Sheng a good friend, and inwardly considered Di Shi a virtuous wife, completely oblivious to his surroundings. Tie Sheng indulged in wine and women all day long, as if in a drunken stupor. Before long, he fell ill, unable to get out of bed, and remained confined to his home. Hu Sheng, feeling uncomfortable, dared not visit. Di Shi informed him, "Your husband won't get out of bed, and I've already bribed him. You can come without worry; it won't cause any trouble."

Upon receiving this news, Hu Sheng became reckless, moving about as he pleased. His habitual footsteps led him to forget his surroundings, and he mistakenly
walked past the bed.
Tie Sheng, suddenly seeing him, asked in surprise, "How did Hu Sheng come out from inside?"
Di Shi and the two maids replied in unison, "We didn't see anyone walk by. There was no Hu Sheng there."
Tie Sheng said, "What I just saw was clearly Hu Sheng. You said no one walked by. Could it be that your eyes are blurred by your illness, and
you've seen a ghost?"
Di Shi said, "It's not a ghost. You've been thinking about your wife all day long, so you're delirious. When you open your eyes and
see her, it's just your eyes playing tricks on you."
The next day, Hu Sheng, upon learning of this, said, "Although I lied to him for a while, once he recovers, he will
surely... " Thinking it over, wouldn't he suspect that since he believes it's a ghost, I have a point. Let's really show him the ghost. Let him believe
it's just his eyes playing tricks on him, so as to avoid future suspicions."
Madam Di laughed, "You're just teasing me again. There's no ghost here."
Hu Sheng said, "Tonight I'll stay in your back room and enjoy myself with you. Tomorrow I'll dress up as a ghost and leave
. Wouldn't that kill two birds with one stone?"
Sure enough, that night Madam Di settled Hu Sheng in the back room, but ordered two maids to accompany her master by the bedside. She herself said she was impatient
to serve him and wanted to sleep in another bed, leaving Tie Sheng behind and sleeping with Hu Sheng for the night.
The next day, after inquiring about Tie Sheng's groggy state, Hu Sheng painted his face with indigo, dyed his temples red, wrapped
his feet in cotton to walk silently, and deliberately rushed straight out in front of Tie Sheng.
Tie Sheng, who was sick and weak, was terrified when he saw this and shouted, "A ghost! A ghost!"
He hurriedly covered his head with the quilt and trembled.
Mrs. Di hurriedly came and asked, "Why are you so alarmed?"
Tiesheng cried, "I said yesterday it was a ghost, and today I really did see a ghost. This illness is more ominous than hopeful; I must quickly find a sorcerer
to help me."
From this fright, his illness worsened, and Mrs. Di felt somewhat guilty, so she went to seek out a Buddhist master.
At that time, there was a Zen master named Xugu, about a hundred miles away. Tiesheng invited him with courtesy and built a Dharma altar to pray for the Buddha's protection.
That day, Master Xugu entered meditation and did not rise until dusk.
He asked Tiesheng, "Did you have a father-in-law in your ancestor?"
Tiesheng replied, "That was my father-in-law."
Master Xugu then asked, "Among your friends, is there a Hu Sheng?"
Tiesheng replied, "He is my good friend."
Mrs. Di, hearing about Hu Sheng, felt uneasy and also came to listen.
Master Wo said, "What I saw just now was quite strange."
Tiesheng asked, "What was so strange about it?"
Master Wo said, "When I first came here, I saw the local earth god, who happened to see our ancestor, the Embroidered-Clothed Elder, there, complaining that his
grandson had been murdered by Hu Sheng."
The earth god, being of low rank, couldn't handle this matter,
so he told the Embroidered-Clothed Elder, "Today, the two stars of the North and South will converge at the foot of Jade Bamboo Shoot Peak. Go there and plead your case; you will surely get justice." The Embroidered-Clothed Elder invited me to go with him. When we arrived, we indeed saw two old men. One
was dressed in scarlet, the other in green, sitting opposite each other playing chess. The Embroidered-Clothed Elder kowtowed and pleaded, but the old men didn't respond. The Embroidered-Clothed Elder continued his pleading.
After the game of chess, Fang Jian said, "Good deeds bring fortune, and wicked deeds bring misfortune; Heaven has its own laws. You are a Confucian scholar, yet you are ignorant of the principle of self-destruction and
pursue useless gains. Your grandson is unworthy and deserves to die, but you are a renowned Confucian scholar and it is not right for your lineage to end, so your grandson may not die. Hu Sheng has indulged in
debauchery and corrupted morals, recklessly seducing your grandson. If he does not suffer retribution in this world, he will surely be punished in the underworld. You should go home now; Hu Sheng has his own master to watch over him. There is no need
to hate him, nor to complain to me."
After saying this, he turned to the poor monk and said, "You are also fortunate to have seen us. Now that you have seen this matter, you must tell the world about it,
so that they may know that fortune and misfortune are inevitable."
"This is what I saw in my meditation. Now there really is a man in embroidered robes and a man in embroidered robes, is this not strange?"
Di was greatly surprised when she heard this, and remained silent, not paying any attention.
Tie Sheng only knew that Hu Sheng had seduced him into prostitution, which was why his father-in-law complained to him, and he was unaware of Di's reasons.
Hearing that he was alive and had a chance to live, he relaxed and his illness improved somewhat. It was Di who, however,
worried about Hu Sheng and developed a mental illness.
Before long, Tie Sheng recovered completely, but Hu Sheng's back pain worsened. Within a month, his illness flared up.
The doctor said, "It's due to excessive drinking and womanizing; he's exhausted and beyond help."
Tie Sheng went straight to his bedside every day to inquire about his illness, showing no restraint since they were close friends.
Men, who served him at his bedside, was secretive but grateful for Tie Sheng's daily support. Gradually,
they began to talk and exchange glances. Although Men wasn't as promiscuous as Di, Tie Sheng had long admired her, and with this opportunity,
he naturally seized it.
One afternoon, Tie Sheng went to visit him. Hu Sheng was half-asleep, and Men was in the kitchen preparing medicine.
He followed her, boldly embracing her from behind, his hands reaching for her breasts, kneading and squeezing them relentlessly. She
struggled slightly but didn't cry out to stop him. After some thought, Tie Sheng released her breasts, lifted her skirt, and pulled down her panties, revealing her
rounded buttocks and her legs clamping her tender flesh.
She was overcome with shyness and tried to twist back, but Tie Sheng pushed her off balance, forcing her to hold onto the stove.
He then took out his hard object and inserted it into her swollen vulva from behind, thrusting in and out relentlessly.
Soon, she couldn't help but moan. The lewd sounds woke Hu Sheng, who realized his wife and Tie Sheng were engaged in passionate lovemaking during the day
.
He thought to himself: "I've already broken the mold. If I weren't bedridden, what would I have done?" He closed his eyes and endured it silently.
After Hu Sheng turned his back on him, Tie Sheng took advantage of her, finally ending
their affair after a long time of neglecting his wife.
After this affair was arranged, the relationship between Lady Men and Tiesheng became as inseparable as that between Lady Di and Hu Sheng at the beginning. Knowing that Hu Sheng's life was hanging
by a thread and that his days were numbered, the two decided to remain husband and wife until the very end.
Tiesheng said to Lady Men, "My wife
is very virtuous. The other day she even asked me to bring you here to help me with this marriage. Now, seeing you as my wife, it's the perfect decision.
" Lady Men sneered, "So willing to help others, she'll surely help herself."
Tiesheng asked, "How will she help herself?"
Lady Men replied, "She and my husband have been seeing each other for a long time, and she often doesn't sleep at my house at night. But when she sees you out, she
goes to your house. Don't you know anything about this?"
Tiesheng suddenly realized, as if from a dream, that Hu Sheng had deceived him. Therefore, he had entered a deep meditation, a consequence of his ancestors' actions
.
Today, Lady Men had intervened, a fitting retribution. He said to Lady Men, "I saw it with my own eyes the other day, but they..."
"The lies have been concealed. If it weren't for you speaking up today, the truth would have been kept from them by the two of them."
Madam Men said, "You mustn't tell your family, or they'll blame me."
Tie Sheng said, "Now that I have you, I can let go of my resentment. Besides, your husband is dying;
why would I go home and spread rumors?"
He quietly parted from Madam Men and returned home, keeping his anger hidden.
Two days later, Hu Sheng died. After paying his respects, Tie Sheng returned home. Madam Di, remembering their past happiness, was overcome with grief and tears welled up in her eyes
.
Tie Sheng, who was now paying close attention, saw through her tears and coldly asked, "Where do these tears come from?"
Madam Di was speechless for a moment. Tiesheng said, "I know everything, there's no need to hide it."
Di's face flushed purple, but she forced herself to say, "It's because your lover died that you couldn't help but feel sorrow and shed tears
. What's there to know or hide?"
Tiesheng said, "Don't try to force yourself. When I stayed out, did he ever stay in my own home? Did you ever stay out alone?
I saw it with my own eyes when I was sick the other day. Who was it? It was your lover who died, hence your sorrow and tears."
Seeing that he was telling the truth, Di dared not argue, and remained silently unhappy. She also missed Hu Sheng, seeing his usual appearance every time she closed her eyes. She
became ill from worry, lost her appetite, and died.
Half a year after her death, Tiesheng asked Mei to marry Men Shi as his second wife.
Tiesheng and Menshi got along very well. Reflecting on Master Wo's words about karmic retribution, he became deeply aware of the consequences. He said to Menshi,
"I only had lustful thoughts because of your beauty, but Hu Sheng preemptively raped my wife. This is my karmic retribution. Hu Sheng and
my wife betrayed me with their lust, and today they are dead. You have come to me; this is their karmic retribution. This serves as
a warning against lustful thoughts. Master Wo, after returning from meditation, already revealed this to me. I now repent. Although our family fortune is ruined, we can still
rebuild. We will live peacefully and obediently."
Tiesheng bowed to Master Wo as his teacher, received the Five Precepts, abstained from illicit sexual activity, and never allowed Menshi to wander off again
