Chapter 174 Peerless Bright Eyes

Just as he was feeling awkward, a faint chanting echoed from a portal on the right rear side of the altar. It became clearer

in , but he couldn't understand a single word; it was probably some kind of Jurchen incantation. Before he could finish his thought,

an arm reached out from the portal and slowly beckoned to him.

He glanced around; no one reacted. They must be calling him, right? He walked over, stepping through

the crowd, but still no one paid him any attention. He entered the portal, which led to a slightly smaller underground chamber than the main hall.

Against the wall were placed shamanic artifacts such as a divine drum, mirror, bell, whip, sword, banner, and staff.

Hanging on the wall was a bronze mask twice the size of a human face, its features clearly defined, shaped exactly like a human, complete with

eyes, eyebrows, mouth, nose, hair, and a large beard. A piece of fat meat was held in its mouth. He remembered his wife

saying that shamanic high priests who wore such masks could communicate with the gods and gain divine power; the eyebrows,

beard were made from black bear mane.

He was engrossed in looking at it when a white figure emerged from some dark corner. He leaned against the wall,

bowed slightly , and said, "Are you the High Priest? What brings you here?"

The white figure suddenly burst into laughter: "What High Priest? I am the Smiling Immortal, here specifically to punish your

Heavenly Emperor 's Whip! You have ruined my life… I will annihilate you, body and soul! Hahahaha!"

The laughter was shrill and piercing, like the sound of metal scraping together. The white figure, like a ghost, suddenly appeared before him, face to face,

less than half a foot apart. Good heavens—what a terrifying face it was! The smiling goddess had transformed into a wrinkled, white-haired woman,

her features inverted!

Upon closer inspection, the white figure was hanging upside down. In his astonishment, two eerie green lights shot from her eyes, piercing his

vision. Instantly, he felt dizzy, his body swelling as if about to burst!

In his dazed state, he hastily drew his curved sword and slashed at her head. His strikes were masterful, embodying the quick, accurate,

and ; his blows rarely missed, only lacking in skill.

The blade sliced through her neck, yet it felt as if nothing was there, as if not a physical entity, but

a phantom of a human form. Yet she continued to laugh maniacally, her features lifelike, the green light in her eyes growing ever more piercing, as if trying to steal

his soul.

This wasn't human; it must be a ghost!

Knowing the struggle was futile, and feeling as if his head were a fully inflated balloon about to burst, he

was terrified and, drawing strength from who-knows-where, leaped forward, shouting for help! With so many people in the hall

, even evil spirits would retreat in a place teeming with people.

Looking back, he saw the white shadow following him like a shadow! He frantically darted into the crowd;

the broken bone seemed to have shifted again, but the excruciating pain was overwhelmed by fear. He ran out screaming,

but the people in the hall remained motionless and unresponsive. Were they all in a meditative state?

In his panic, he disregarded politeness and slammed his hand on someone's shoulder, yelling, "Wake up! A ghost is here!"

The person immediately fell to the ground, like an upright wooden stake!

Startled, he looked around intently. The faces of the people around him were lifelike, yet as

lifeless . He quickly reached out and touched one person's face; it was cold and lifeless. If it was a person, it was definitely a dead one!

He turned and glared at the ethereal white figure, hissing, "Have you killed all these people?"

The white figure cackled, "They're just soulless walking corpses, and you're the same, but you'll

suffer even more! I'll refine your primordial spirit, utterly destroying you body and soul, condemning you

to eternal damnation!" Her voice was filled with venom, uttering the most vicious curse imaginable!

Wuyue roared, "I have no grudge against you, why are you so cruel to me?"

The white figure gritted her teeth, "What a fine 'no grudge'! Do you remember Ji Lingxian? She's my daughter,

weren't you cruel to her? How did she treat you? You should know better than I do! Just because she caught you

two adulterers in your act, you actually… Besides, I'm acting on your behalf, loyal to you, and this is the only way. Enough

talk , come on!"

Wuyue was utterly bewildered. Ji Lingxian? Who is she? What does she have to do with me?

Before he could even react, an overwhelming, unstoppable energy enveloped him, draining his inner energy as if it were being

violently drained, causing his body to swell as if about to explode. His eyes flashed with a vibrant green light, then a wave

of intense dizziness washed over him. He felt himself rising like wisps of mist, looking down to see his body still

standing motionless in the crowd, drifting further and further away. How terrifying!

More terrifying than a nightmare! Was he dreaming? He wanted to reach out and pinch his face, but it was just a thought.

He had no hands, no body, not even a head. Besides being able to see and think, he had nothing!

The white figure followed him like a shadow, its captivating green light growing ever brighter, as if burning his

soul —more terrifying than the Samadhi Fire of his nightmares. His vision blurred, his mind filled with a muddled,

increasingly chaotic mass.

He irreversibly wanted to drift into a deep sleep. The scenery before his eyes dissipated, his thoughts shattered, as if he had split into

countless selves, scattered in every corner of the universe, each seeing a different scene. Some were in the ocean,

some drifted among the stars, some found themselves in a strange, empty space, with

nothing …

All of these selves were no longer in that temple.

Yet, no matter which space his consciousness was in, he could feel that blinding green light, like a bone-deep affliction,

impossible to shake off. Finally, just as all the stars in the sky perished, all the fragmented consciousnesses gradually disappeared, leaving

him . But without consciousness, was he still himself?

"The world can finally be at peace, you scourge! I should go see my

poor …" These were the last words he heard before he collapsed.

The world gradually fell silent, as if returning to the primordial chaos before the creation of heaven and earth. Just before complete

silence , a wisp of consciousness drifting somewhere in the sky suddenly glimpsed a blurry black shadow flying

towards them, instantly growing larger. A deafeningly chaotic sound erupted, but nothing could be seen or heard; only a sense

of cataclysmic upheaval and terrifying force remained…

He didn't know how much time had passed, but the scattered consciousness gradually regrouped. Each time they

merged, a wave of dizziness, like a rush of heat, washed over him, making his head spin!

After enduring dozens of violent collisions, he finally succumbed and fainted…

Wuyue slowly awoke. Opening his eyes, he saw that it was already bright daylight. The eerie feeling that had enveloped everything at night was gone

. He was still lying in the east room, on a pile of branches in the corner. Qing'er was curled up in his arms, having

woken up before him as usual. The first thing he saw was her big, innocent-looking eyes,

followed by her dark little face, staring blankly at him.

Except for the excruciating pain in his head and right foot, everything was exactly the same as before he fell asleep last night, even their

positions were identical!

He was puzzled. The terrifying experience of the middle of the night was crystal clear; the pain in his right foot when he grabbed the wall to get out was

so real. How could it be another dream? He touched his right foot; the newly grown cartilage at the broken bone was clearly bruised.

Pressing it even slightly sent a cold sweat through him!

He pondered for a long time without finding a solution. Oh well, as long as Qing'er and I are alright!

Normally, upon waking in the morning, those bull-like eyes, so close to his face, would always make him feel uneasy. Why look

so close? It made him dizzy and uncomfortable! However, having just experienced a truly real ordeal,

seeing those eyes now, he actually felt good, completely relaxed, because it meant everything was alright.

So, unusually, he stared intently at those eyes he had always ignored.

Seeing him open his eyes, Qing'er remained motionless, her perfectly almond-shaped eyes unusually large, still staring blankly

at him. Two bright spots in her deep black pupils were crystal clear, holding a hint of familiarity.

Tears seemed to swirl in her slightly swollen eyelids, poignant and heartbreaking. For no reason, he

felt an urge to hold her and cherish her.

He had never realized those eyes were so beautiful, or rather, he had never seen such poignant and moving eyes,

even surpassing those of Sister Beifeng and Lingti…

After staring at each other for a long while, he heard Qing'er whisper, “This seems to be the first time you've looked at me so closely.

Have discovered anything new?”

He winked at Qing'er and smiled, “Nothing much, I just think these eyes must be in the wrong

place. They should be on her face, hehe~ Little girl, wake up! By the way,

did you hear any noise last night?”

Qing'er shook her head and said innocently, “I had a nightmare. It seemed like a woman was flying around,

and then I realized you were gone. It made me wake up crying, but thankfully you were still here!”

Wuyue looked at her face and saw that there were indeed tear stains, no wonder her eyes were a little red and swollen.

She thought for a moment, then asked, "By the way, who was that 'she' you were talking about earlier?"

Wuyue replied, "My sister Beifeng. I'm warning you, after you come back with me, you'd better stay away from her,

otherwise you won't find a husband when you grow up."

Qing'er asked curiously, "Why?"

Wuyue glared at her and said, "Think about it, standing next to such a beautiful woman, even a fool wouldn't

give you a second glance. Remember my words, I won't harm you."

Qing'er asked, "Is she very beautiful?"

Wuyue replied, "Yes! But I only recently discovered it myself."

Qing'er carefully observed his expression and said thoughtfully, "I know who that 'she' you were talking about last night is,

it's also your sister Beifeng, isn't it?"

Wuyue said irritably, "Even adults don't understand these things,

what are you, a little kid, meddling in? Stop dawdling, do what you're supposed to do!
