Maternal Dog Offspring Sequence 01~03

Prologue
In the late autumn of 1996, the sun was about to set, its afterglow leaving a golden glow that
turned the sky rose-colored. The entire earth was shrouded in a magnificent twilight, like a polished and boundless
sheet of metal.
Soon, the rosy glow faded, the rose-red turning to crimson, then to pale red.
Finally, when all the red light disappeared, only a lone cloud slowly crept across the horizon.
The coastal town of Wushi, nestled amidst countless mountains, was about to welcome another peaceful night.
A portly, obese man walked with a slow, labored gait, his
cheeks flabby and covered with a sparse beard. He wore a green military overcoat,
stained and greasy, suggesting a slovenly lifestyle. In his right hand, he carried a white plastic bag
filled with various groceries.
This is a residential area built in the 1980s in the old town of Wu City. At that time, most small cities didn't have
the concept of property management, so everywhere you looked, there was all sorts of litter, pet excrement,
and bicycles and motorcycles parked haphazardly, crammed into every available space. Some
low-lying holly trees lined the road, but most were withered and yellowed, with discarded plastic bags caught between the branches, swaying in the wind along
with the fallen leaves.
It was dinnertime, and from the dilapidated stairwells plastered with various small advertisements,
the sizzling sounds of food being cooked could be heard, and the air was filled with the aroma of various seasonings. The lights were about to come on; night
was approaching again.
"Fatty" looked extremely tired, panting as he walked slowly,
his anxiety evident in his slow, stout gait.
"Hello, sir! Excuse me..." A woman's voice suddenly came from behind him, accompanied by hurried footsteps, startling
him. Still shaken, he quickly turned around, only to find a young woman standing before him.
He instinctively looked her over, one hand nervously reaching into his coat pocket.
She was a woman in her early twenties, at least 1.7 meters tall, slender and graceful
. She
wore plain hair clip visible. Around her neck hung a pair of headphones playing Hong Kong singer Anthony Wong's "Spring Light Leaks" (back in the era of cassette tapes and answering machines), a typical look for a young urban woman in the
1990s . The girl had a small, delicate face, but perhaps due to lack of grooming, her appearance wasn't particularly striking. However, her beautiful, clear eyes, which occasionally revealed a hint of melancholy, could be described as "expressive beyond their years." Although her eyes weren't large, the corners of her eyes were naturally slightly upturned, exuding a natural charm and liveliness. Upon closer inspection, her nose was also straight and delicate, with narrow, rounded nostrils; her mouth was well-shaped, with full, red lips , and a small, barely visible mole on the left corner of her mouth, its size just right. With a little effort in dressing up, she might very well be a captivating beauty. But the fat man completely ignored her, still staring at her warily. The young woman, seeing that the middle-aged man, so fat his neck was almost invisible, didn't answer her question, smiled at him with a slightly embarrassed expression, two shallow dimples appearing on her beautiful cheeks. "Excuse me, sir , I just wanted to ask if you know how to get to a community called 'Hongyun' around here. It's my first time here, and I'm really lost; there are so many communities around." The fat man didn't reply, continuing to sized her up. "Not from around here, I don't know. You should ask someone else," he said indifferently after a while. Rejected, the young woman could only say with a hint of helplessness , "Oh, I see. I'm really sorry, sir ," and then turned and left. The young woman didn't notice that the fat middle-aged man had been watching her warily for a long time, until she asked the same question to a shopkeeper a short distance away before turning around and continuing on her way, but with a more hurried pace. Two streets away at an intersection, a silver-gray Changhe minivan was parked. Inside sat a thin, serious-looking middle-aged man; he was balding, so he combed one side of his hair as far as possible towards the center. The interior lights were off, the only light in the dark cabin flickering from cigarette butts. Suddenly, the door opened, and fresh air rushed in, washing away the lingering smell of smoke. The woman who had asked for directions earlier was the one who opened the door. She leaned into the driver's seat and said to the man, "Captain Zheng, it's confirmed, it's Zhang Biao." The man didn't reply immediately but waved for her to get in. "Are you sure you're not mistaken?" the man asked, clearly unsure, glancing at the woman getting in through the rearview mirror. "He's at least two sizes bigger than in the photo, but I'm sure it's him," the woman replied firmly , sitting in the back seat and closing the door behind her . "So you didn't alert him, did you?" the man continued to ask. "I don't think so, I'm sure, Captain Zheng." The "Captain Zheng" she was referring to was Zheng Tu, the captain of the Wu City Criminal Investigation Detachment, a seasoned police officer with over 20 years of experience , 45 years old at the time. The young woman was Liu Xiao, a 24-year-old policewoman from the Wu City Police Department. "Chen Gang, Liu Gaoyang, Ma Le, Lao Sun, did you guys hear that? It's confirmed, it's Zhang Biao. Did you hear that? Get back to me if you heard !" Captain Zheng grabbed the walkie-talkie from the passenger seat and contacted the other officers staking out the area. "Damn it, this bastard was hiding here! We all thought he'd fled, but he's still in Wu City, hiding in the city center. This kid's cunning, we've been looking for him for over half a year, damn it..." A string of profanities came from the other end of the walkie-talkie. This was during the period following Deng Xiaoping's southern tour in 1992, when he delivered a speech calling on everyone to emancipate their minds, be bold in trying new things, and vigorously promote reform and opening up. As a result, many open casinos and semi-open entertainment venues emerged in society. Perhaps what people emancipated first was not their minds but their desires.

Zhang Biao was originally the backstage manager of a nightclub in Wushi, but he also secretly organized prostitution.
He fled after causing a disturbance while drunk in 1995, crippling one person, and the police repeatedly tried to apprehend him without success.
In the 1990s, criminal gangs and organized crime groups often had some social connections, but most lacked powerful backers
and were far less large-scale and rampant than they are today. It was an era of fighting, brawling, and violence; to
survive in society, you had to uphold some code of honor and be ruthless. Zhang Biao was a
notorious ruthless figure on the streets at that time.
He was originally from an ordinary working-class family. At 18, he took over his father's job in the factory.
If the company hadn't gone bankrupt five years later, he probably would have worked honestly in the state-owned enterprise factory for the rest of his life. But
the dramatic changes in society ultimately dealt a heavy blow to his originally peaceful and impoverished life.
If people were given the choice between poverty and crime, most would choose poverty; but if given
the choice between crime and hunger, most would only choose crime. Zhang Biao made the same choice.
While Zhang Biao was on the run, his painstakingly run nightclub was shut down by the police. That
operation was Liu Xiao's first time participating in a "crackdown on prostitution" after joining the police force. She had only been with the force for less than five months, but
she could still clearly recall the scene that night: dozens of scantily clad prostitutes and half-
naked clients were taken away in batches to police cars in the darkness, while the surrounding streets were crowded with onlookers. The blaring
sirens, the noisy crowd, the frenzied music, and the constantly flashing lights—everything was so
chaotic that she was overwhelmed.
That night, Liu Xiao witnessed for the first time the chaotic state of those "brothels,"
the piles nauseating stench permeating the secluded, dimly lit, and cramped rooms
—a smell that was indescribable, both sour and foul, yet strangely unsettling.
Liu Xiao never dreamed that the
city . Everything before her eyes felt incredibly dirty and filthy to her, a newcomer to society.
That night, Liu Xiao rode in the same police car back to the police station with the arrested prostitutes. In the car, she watched as
these heavily made-up women covered their faces with their hands. The sight filled her with complex emotions
—what force drove these women down this path? Was it really just money,
or some hidden tendency in human nature? No one could give her the answer, but from that night on, she
knew clearly: the world was far from as beautiful as she had imagined; life was treacherous, and people's hearts were unpredictable.
"Captain Zheng, if it's confirmed, should we arrest them? Should we arrest them now? We can report it to our superiors later
, and get a bonus at the end of the year so we can have a good New Year." The urgent
voice of police officer Chen Gang on the walkie-talkie interrupted Liu Xiao's thoughts.
"It's only autumn, and you're already in such a hurry for the New Year! This bastard can hide in the city for a year, he must have accomplices. Let's
wait a bit longer. We've already confirmed his whereabouts, what's the rush to 'lift the lid'? We
'll arrest his accomplices together when they show themselves." Captain Zheng's tone was stern; he was trying his best to appease his eager-to-make-a-merit subordinates.
"Keep a close watch on him. No one is allowed to move without my orders, understand…"
Sitting in the back seat, Liu Xiao let out a deep sigh of relief. This was her first time on a crime scene, so it was inevitable that she was nervous. Liu Xiao
tightened her thin trench coat; winter was approaching, and it was getting cold.
Zheng Tu glanced at Liu Xiao again in the rearview mirror, then turned around and said with concern, "What's wrong, Xiao Liu
? Are you tired?"
Liu Xiao quickly shook her head. "No, Captain Zheng. I'm just a little nervous. It's my first time on a crime scene, and I'm afraid
of making mistakes ." She hurriedly explained.
"If you're tired, just say so. We understand, it's okay. It's also been hard on you, a young lady, running around with a bunch of
grown By the way, I just realized it's been a year since you became a police officer, right
?" Liu Xiao smiled at Zheng Tu. "Um... um... yes, one year and two months." She answered somewhat
shyly , and the car fell silent for a long time.
Zheng Tu knew the new girl was shy, so he started a conversation,
" I don't know what my old comrade was thinking, sending his precious daughter
to suffer like this, and making her a criminal investigator... I remember you used to love singing and dancing when you were little, why
didn't you consider going to an arts school? These days, artists make a lot of money... definitely more than us
police officers."
Zheng Tu was Liu Xiao's father's old comrade-in-arms and colleague, and their families had been friends for many years.
Her father's old connections had helped her get into the police force after graduating from police academy. However, becoming a police officer back then wasn't as difficult as
it public security system had preferential policies for family members; as long as you had the necessary education and no criminal record,
anyone who wanted to work in the field could be recruited, let alone a college graduate like Liu Xiao.
Faced with her leader's concern, she didn't know where to begin, and simply smiled slightly at him.
"Actually, it's true. These days, movie and TV actors have absolutely no shame. I remember
a while ago , my wife and I watched a movie together, it was called... what was it again? Oh right!
What was the name of Emperor Xuanzong's wife again? Oh, right, 'Yang Guifei.' The actress filmed a bathing scene,
basically completely naked, her buttocks... you could see her buttocks clearly. How can the social atmosphere not be chaotic? Back in Mao
's time, no one would dare to do such a thing... You have to say, the public security now is just chaotic. Damn,
there are . The economy is bad, and there are many laid-off people...
" Staking out is a very hard and tedious job. Most veteran detectives
pass the time by chatting and smoking. Liu Xiao just listened silently. After all, police officers are also human beings, flesh and blood
.
Time flew by, and soon it was late at night. Liu Xiao, on his first crime scene call, was overcome with drowsiness and unconsciously
dozed off…
“Captain Zheng, come on, have some roujiamo (Chinese hamburger). I just bought it, it’s still warm. Damn, it’s so
cold today!” Police officer Chen Gang suddenly opened the car door and plopped down in the passenger seat, the sound waking
the drowsy Liu Xiao.
"Hey, scared my little junior sister, sorry, sorry." Chen Gang turned his head and grinned at Liu Xiao.
"Damn, you're the only one who knows how to be filial. Who's watching behind the building now?" Zheng Tu rolled his eyes at Chen Gang.
Actually he knew that ever since Liu Xiao came to the police force, these bachelors
had all become incredibly energetic, like they'd been injected with chicken blood. He'd been young once, so he understood.
"It's Old Sun, don't worry, nothing will happen. Hey, you'd better eat this bun quickly, I specially
added two eggs for you!" Chen Gang said with a cheeky grin, taking out a roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) from his pocket and handing it to Zheng Tu, but
Zheng Tu didn't take it.
"Give it to Xiao Liu, I'm not very hungry. Xiao Liu, you eat some while it's hot, we don't know how
long we'll have to keep watch." He glanced down at the Polaris watch on his wrist; it was already 9 p.m.
Chen Gang smiled and tried to hand the roujiamo (Chinese hamburger) to Liu Xiao. After several refusals, Liu Xiao took the roujiamo from
Chen Gang . She was indeed a little hungry and said, "Thank you, senior brother," before
taking small bites.
"You're thanking him? No need to thank him. Your 'senior brother' immediately made Officer Chen beam with joy. Look
how hot he is, his face is glowing!" Zheng Tu teased.
"Captain Zheng, what you're saying... do I look like that kind of person?"
"I think so.
" Although Chen Gang said this, he couldn't help but think to himself: Liu Xiao's figure is
really good, even better than an actress; but as for her looks, to be honest, I don't know if she doesn't know how to dress or if she's
too reserved. Although she's pretty, she's not very attractive at first glance. But if you look closely,
her features are actually not ugly, and her face shape is quite pleasing to the eye. Especially her eyes, they're beautiful and alluring. The more you look at them,
the more you feel a certain charm. I wonder what kind of girl she likes... Still
not entirely at ease, Zheng Tu picked up the walkie-talkie. "Old Sun, Old Sun, report back, report the situation behind the building,
report the situation behind the building..." But there was no response from the other end of the walkie-talkie.
"You old bastard, are you asleep again? Hey, if you're still breathing, say something. If you heard me, hurry up and fart!"
Zheng Tu cursed impatiently, but all he got back from the walkie-talkie was static.
"Chen Gang, what's going on? When did you break up with him?" Zheng Tu immediately became nervous about his subordinate's unusual behavior
and hurriedly asked Chen Gang, who was sitting next to him.
"It'll only be 40 minutes, I think... it should be fine!"
"It'll be too late if something happens. Roll back immediately and check. Report anything immediately, go right now, don't
dawdle."
Chen Gang didn't dare delay. He opened the car door and got out, quickly disappearing into the night.
The atmosphere inside the car became extremely tense due to this sudden turn of events...
"Team Leader Zheng, Team Leader Zheng, Old Sun's head's been split open, his head and face are covered in blood, Team Leader Zheng." Soon after, the worst news everyone wanted to hear came through
the walkie-talkie .
"How badly is Old Sun injured? Is he conscious? Is he still conscious?
" "He's still somewhat conscious, he can talk. I'm looking for something to bandage him. He's lost a lot of blood," Chen Gang
replied urgently.
"Quickly ask who hit him, Zhang Biao
?" "Yes, it was Zhang Biao! He attacked Old Sun from behind when he got out of the car to urinate."
"Is the gun still there? Was it stolen?"
"No, the gun is still there!"
"Oh... thank goodness." Zheng Tu breathed a long sigh of relief.
"Quickly, call the power line! Hurry! What alerted that bastard Zhang Biao? He must have known he
was being followed, that's why he attacked so ruthlessly..." Before Captain Zheng could finish speaking, a dark figure flashed past from
the holly , followed by a series of rustling sounds as branches snapped—someone
was running in the dark.
"Damn it, it's that bastard Zhang Biao who messed things up."
Zheng Tu grabbed another walkie-talkie from the dashboard, turned around and shoved it into Liu Xiao's hand in the back seat, then instructed,
"Xiao Liu, hold onto the walkie-talkie and stay in the car. I'm going down to check things out. You keep an eye on your surroundings and report
anything unusual immediately. Remember, never act alone, and don't be reckless, understand?"
"Understood, Captain Zheng, don't worry." As Liu Xiao stood up to take the walkie-talkie,
her unbuttoned beige trench coat revealed her leather belt.
The belt's metal buckle was brass, with a steel-engraved national emblem and the prominent "August 1st" inscription.
This leather belt was a gift from Liu Xiao's father on her first day at work, saying it was a military belt given to her by an old comrade-in-arms, sturdy and
durable, a work gift for her.
When Zheng Tu saw the belt, his expression instantly changed, his brows furrowing. But he had no time
to think or say anything; he could only pull out his Type 64 pistol, cock it, grab the walkie-talkie, and jump out of
the car.
"Zhang Le, Zhang Le, you and Liu Gaoyang, get to the north intersection immediately. I just saw a figure pass by
; it's very likely Zhang Biao, very likely Zhang Biao. Get your guns cocked!"

Zheng Tu, a veteran police officer, had indeed miscalculated today's arrest. He hadn't expected Zhang Biao to
resist . He had thought that since Zhang Biao hadn't committed a capital offense, once he found his accomplices, they could immediately close in without
much resistance. But he never expected Zhang Biao to be so reckless.
This guy must have other cases on his hands, otherwise he wouldn't be so reckless.
"I'll break this bastard's legs if I catch him!" Zheng Tu groped his way through the darkness and chased after him.
Alone in the car, Liu Xiao dared not turn on the headlights for fear of alerting the criminal. She could only
nervously observe her surroundings by the faint moonlight. Everything suddenly became eerily quiet. A moment later, she saw
a shadowy figure approaching from the opposite direction.
"It's Zhang Biao! He's come back again!" Liu Xiao thought to herself, a bad feeling creeping over her. If she didn't stop him
, Zhang Biao could easily escape the community along this road. If he reached the main road, it would be much harder to apprehend him
.
"Team Leader Zheng, Chen Gang, did you hear that? Did you hear that? Zhang Biao is in my direction. I'm
getting out of the car to stop him!" After speaking into the walkie-talkie, she jumped out of the car without waiting for a reply.
"Officer, stop!" Liu Xiao shouted. "Hands up! I'll shoot if you run again!"
Zhang Biao, who had his back to Liu Xiao, was startled when he heard the police behind him. He froze, but quickly
calmed down and slowly turned around. He glanced sideways and saw that the person behind him was
the young woman he had just met. The woman was holding a gun, but her hand was trembling uncontrollably.
"Hands up! Don't move!" Liu Xiao shouted to bolster her courage.
Zhang Biao slowly raised his hands and turned around. The inexperienced Liu Xiao assumed he had given up and
approached him with her Type 54 pistol, trying to subdue him. Just as she fumbled for the handcuffs on her waist,
Zhang suddenly turned and delivered a powerful punch. The slender Liu Xiao didn't even have time to react before she collapsed to
the ground.
She hadn't expected that such a seemingly dull and obese man could be so strong.
Liu Xiao, her mouth bleeding from the blow, struggled to get up to pick up the pistol that had been thrown to the ground (the gun only had five bullets; police officers
had a limited number of bullets they could carry on missions, and ammunition was counted before being issued, with any shortages requiring reporting; therefore, criminal police officers carried guns
more for courage). But Zhang Biao rushed forward and punched her hard in the neck again, causing Liu Xiao to fall to
the ground once more. Zhang Biao stomped hard on her chest, immobilizing her, then pulled
a , raising it high above his head to bring it down.
"Stop! If you move again, I'll kill you!" Chen Gang, who had arrived at the scene, was already
standing . A veteran, he shouted as he approached Zhang Biao, knowing that the
closer he was to the criminal, the higher the probability of hitting him if he fired.
"Go to hell!" Zhang Biao swung his arm violently, sending the axe flying straight at Chen Gang. It struck Chen Gang squarely
in the right shoulder, the sudden, heavy blow causing him to fall backward in pain. In that instant, Chen Gang saw
the crazed Zhang Biao lunging at him. His finger instinctively pulled the trigger, "Bang bang..." Two bullets
fired in quick succession.
The bullets whizzed through the air. One shattered the rearview mirror of a Changhe car parked nearby,
causing it to ricochet. The out-of-control bullet, trailing sparks, spun rapidly before bouncing high into the air upon hitting the ground.
Startled, Liu Xiao, still lying on the ground, quickly turned and dodged to the side. The other
bullet grazed past Zhang Biao's ear; though it didn't hit him, the scorching air still tore a bloody
gash across his face.
Ignoring his bleeding wounds, Zhang Biao lunged at Chen Gang, grabbing Chen Gang's gun-wielding hand with one hand and
snatching the axe that had struck Chen Gang's shoulder with the other. Blood gushed from the wound instantly.
"You dogs, can't you give me a way out? I'll kill you all!" Bloodthirsty Zhang Biao swung
the axe at Chen Gang's head again. Chen Gang jerked his head to the side, and the axe struck the concrete floor with a loud thud,
sparks flying everywhere. Zhang Biao immediately raised the axe again.
Just then, Liu Xiao, who had been lying on the ground, finally stumbled to her feet, grabbed her dropped pistol, and
shouted at Zhang Biao's back, "Stop!"
Zhang Biao turned around. "Come on, if you've got the guts, kill me. I'll fuck your mother, you rotten bitch."
He turned back and swung the axe at Chen Gang beneath him again.
"Ah...stop!" Liu Xiao squinted and yelled as she pulled the trigger.
"Bang, bang..." Two more sharp gunshots pierced the night. When Liu Xiao opened her eyes, there were two bullet holes gushing blood
in , a wisp of smoke rising from the muzzle. Zhang Biao
lay sprawled on the ground like a tattered sack of potatoes...
