I put a cushion behind my back, leaned against the headboard, and touched Mini's hair with my left hand—it was so black and shiny.
Before I could even really look at Mini properly, I suddenly wondered, had Oil gotten home yet? It's
been so long. Is she safe? How could I have forgotten to ask her?
I felt guilty and quickly picked up my phone: "Oil, I'm sorry, are you home yet?"
Oil replied immediately: "I'm home."
Me: "Can I see you then? I want to confirm."
Oil: "You mean video chat? I don't want to show you."
I thought to myself, I don't want to video chat either. If we did, she'd see I wasn't home, and Mini was with me.
Even if she's patient, she'd probably come and kill me today, especially since Mini has left several red marks on my neck.
I said, "I just want to see you, to make sure you're safe at home."
Oil: "I'm home, I'm safe."
