[Urban] Hidden Sin (Complete) - Episode 19 (End)

    page views:1  Publication date:2023-03-24
After the eightieth wife vs. mistress

drama, a few days passed relatively peacefully, and Xue Jin thought the matter was over.

As January approached, the leaves on the trees lost their vibrant color; driven by a strong wind, almost overnight, the streets and alleys were bathed in golden hues.

Crops in the south can be harvested twice, making this the harvest season for farmers, and Xue Jin's business flourished—large and small projects poured in, often keeping Ding Bu busy to the point of complaining, but he was secretly overjoyed.

A few days ago, another sum of money entered Xue Jin's account. Looking at his nearly thirty million in savings, the man was in high spirits, considering whether he should buy something for the girl.

After much deliberation, he finally decided to look at houses; if he found a suitable one, he could buy it, as living with Ding Bu all the time wasn't ideal.

So, on a sunny afternoon, Xue Jin drove to an upscale community.

City A's urban layout was symmetrical—the southernmost and northernmost areas were mostly inhabited by the wealthy, while the eastern and western areas had more average housing prices, and the central area was the commercial center.

Xue Jin and Bai Sisi's home was in the south of the city, in a high-end residential complex. Originally, the man wanted to buy a house in the north, but that would make it inconvenient for his wife and mistress to visit each other. So, Xue Jin decided to look at a newly developed high-end complex in the south.

Parking the car outside the sales office, Xue Jin got out with his handbag.

The saleswoman, watching the handsome man get out of the Audi through the glass curtain wall, immediately became alert and greeted him as he entered.

"Sir, hello, this way please." The saleswoman smiled and led him to a sofa chair.

As soon as Xue Jin sat down, a steaming cup of coffee was placed on the coffee table. The waitress brought the cup, said softly, "Enjoy your coffee," and left.

"Sir, what is your surname?" the saleswoman asked, sitting down opposite him.

Xue Jin looked around, his gaze lingering on the model of the complex in the distance.

"My surname is Xue."

"Mr. Xue, are you looking to buy a house for yourself? What kind would you like?" the young lady asked, taking out a folder from the side.

"..." Xue Jin hesitated for a moment, then looked up at her: "For my little niece."

Actually, the man hadn't decided beforehand whether he should buy a house for Lian Yu, since they hadn't known each other for long. But Xue Jin really liked the girl and wanted to give her a stable life, and a house? He considered it the most basic thing.

However, buying it now was a bit premature, something Xue Jin knew very well.

But who could blame him for having so much money? Buying it sooner or later was the same; he'd keep it for now, and when the time was right, he'd hand the property certificate over to Lian Yu. Before that, Xue Jin didn't plan to tell her that the house was hers.

On the other hand, if Xue Jin's career wasn't doing so well right now, he might not have been willing to spend the money.

So now Xue Jin was very calm; he was a successful person, and whatever he did made sense.

The saleswoman paused slightly. Their apartments were very expensive; the smallest unit was 80 square meters, with a starting price of 7,000 yuan per square meter. All the miscellaneous costs added up to at least 600,000 yuan. Was giving this to her niece too generous?

She knew that most people buying apartments here were wealthy, either for themselves or for their children or elderly parents. Xue Jin was a first for her.

"Really? How old is your niece?" the saleswoman asked, purely out of curiosity.

"About 15," Xue Jin replied, his expression slightly unnatural, as if he wasn't happy.

The saleswoman immediately realized her lapse and quickly composed herself, getting into work mode: "Mr. Xue, these are all our apartment types. Please take a look; is there anything you particularly like?"

The development was called Haoyuan, divided into two phases. Phase one was completed, and phase two was under construction. The sales office was currently mainly selling phase two apartments, as phase one was basically sold out.

The saleswoman had barely finished her introduction when Xue Jin interrupted her, "I want to buy a ready-built apartment. Do you still have any left?"

"Ah...yes, all the apartments in Phase 1 are ready-built, but there aren't many left, and most of the layouts aren't ideal. I'm afraid you won't be satisfied," the saleswoman explained.

Xue Jin raised an eyebrow slightly, "I need to move in quickly. Do you have any decent ones?"

The saleswoman nodded, "I should have some. I'll bring you a sketch." With that, she stood up.

Xue Jin picked up his coffee, took a few sips, and the saleswoman returned, placing a folder on the coffee table and rummaging through it for a while.

"How about this one?" The saleswoman pulled out a sketch and handed it to the man.

Xue Jin glanced at the area marked on it and shook his head—over 200 square meters? It would definitely be too spacious for Lian Yu to live in, and the price would be outrageously expensive.

"This is the 20th floor, the top floor. It has excellent natural light and is quite spacious. If your niece gets married in the future, she and her partner can move in together. Even with a small child, it won't feel crowded," the saleswoman enthusiastically promoted.

Xue Jin smiled faintly. "Xiao Yu getting married? That seems a long way off!

" The saleswoman, noticing his lack of interest, quickly changed the picture: "How about this one? Large balcony, high-end renovation included, and good natural light..."

It was a one-bedroom, one-living room, one-bathroom apartment on the fourth floor, with unobstructed light and a nice layout.

Xue Jin nodded, then asked, "Why doesn't anyone want this apartment?"

The saleswoman smiled awkwardly: "It's not that nobody wants it; you can tell from the floor number." She continued, "This apartment was reserved by someone with connections, but when they took possession, the owner discovered the apartment was significantly smaller, almost five square meters less, so he didn't want it, leaving it as one of the last remaining units."

"Really? Then he should have given you less money." Xue Jin smiled along.

"That's what I thought too, but the customer absolutely refused, and there's nothing we can do." They encounter all sorts of customers; saleswomen often get scolded.

Xue Jin accepted her explanation and stood up from the sofa: "If I buy now, when can I get the keys?"

The saleswoman smiled broadly at his question: "Immediately, as soon as you pay, you can move in—our apartments are already fully furnished."

"Okay, let's go see the apartments."

Xue Jin walked out side-by-side with the saleswoman, overhearing the girl ask, "Mr. Xue, are you paying in full or by mortgage?"

"Full payment."

"And what do you do?" The saleswoman subtly moved closer to him—she had initially liked him; after all, Xue Jin was good-looking and drove a stylish car. After their conversation, she was even more enamored.

Someone so kind to a younger person would surely be kind to a lover, wouldn't he? Who wouldn't like a generous and wealthy man?

But clearly, she was overthinking it. Xue Jin's answers were conventional, but later he seemed almost impatient. The girl sensed something was wrong and couldn't help but feel a little disappointed.

After returning home, Xue Jin asked Lian Yu for her household registration booklet, saying he wanted to get her a temporary residence permit. The little girl handed it to him, somewhat confused.

The paperwork went smoothly, and he received the property certificate. Xue Jin locked it in his office drawer and then drove to Lian Yu's place in a high spirits.

The little girl had already prepared dinner and was setting the table in the living room when she suddenly heard the doorbell ring—Xue Jin had just called and said he would be there soon, so without thinking, she opened the security door.

But the next moment, before she could even see the two people clearly, they burst in, slamming the door shut behind them with a bang.

Lian Yu was startled. She asked blankly, "Who are you?"

Bai Sisi smiled coldly, her gaze towards the little girl filled with three parts contempt, three parts anger, and four parts resentment. She sized her up—slender, delicate skin, and exquisite features; no wonder her husband liked her.

But seeing the apron tied around her waist and the food laid out in the living room, she exploded—this little vixen really thought she was Xue Jin's wife, living like a proper wife.

They say rivals are especially hostile when they meet, and the first wife, seeing the mistress, showed no mercy. Without a word, she slapped Lian Yu across the face.

"Ah…" Lian Yu was caught off guard and felt excruciating pain. Before she could recover, Bai Sisi, gritting her teeth, slapped her back.

After a couple of blows, Lian Yu finally came to her senses. She knew she hadn't offended anyone, and her only leverage was Xue Jin. The woman had attacked her right away, and she realized this woman was likely Xue Jin's wife.

Lian Yu covered her flushed cheeks with both hands, shrinking away in fear—she was alone at home, and feeling guilty, she was terrified of Bai Sisi.

Accompanying Bai Sisi was her best friend Tao, who was somewhat confused by the scene. When Bai Sisi suggested they go find the mistress together, Tao had fully supported her.

Bai Sisi usually confided in her, and as a woman, she naturally sided with her best friend regarding Xue Jin's affair. She was determined to go with Bai Sisi to seek justice, but now…

the two, one big and one small, were pulling and tugging at each other, their struggle now reaching the living room sofa. Bai Sisi was grabbing the little girl's hair, pulling hard with her hands.

"I'll beat you to death, you little bitch, for seducing men..."

"Waaah, ugh... ah... ugh..."

Sister Tao watched as Bai Sisi used underhanded tactics, pinning the little girl to the sofa and slapping her face, leaving a bloody red mark: "I'll disfigure you, see how you find a man in the future, you bitch... I'll scratch you to death."

The woman immediately snapped out of her daze. She felt Bai Sisi had really gone too far. After all, the girl was just a little girl, and was she really a third party?

She rushed forward, using all her strength to grab Bai Sisi around the waist and pull her back, but her friend seemed to have gone mad, cursing and struggling twice before lunging forward like an arrow.

Sister Tao, without thinking, followed, hoping to stop Bai Sisi's somewhat crazy actions.

Xue Jin had his own key. He opened the door and immediately sensed something was wrong—Bai Sisi's shouts and curses were piercing, and Lian Yu's shrill cries made his heart sink.

Stepping out of the foyer, he was stunned by the chaotic scene before him—in his anger, his perception clouded, and he mistook the two women, Tao, who were trying to break up the fight, for the assailants.

Two women beating a little girl, and that little girl was Lian Yu?

Xue Jin's face turned ashen, his body trembling with rage. Driven by his fury, he strode forward, quickly throwing the two women aside. Then, he kicked Bai Sisi, who was furiously attacking him.

"Ah..." The woman felt a sharp pain in her waist and collapsed to the ground, her internal organs shifting in agony.

After dealing with one of them, Xue Jin turned back and saw Tao. She turned to run, but without thinking, he delivered another kick. After a scream, she too fell to the ground.

The two women, their faces ashen, groaned and clutched their wounds, their hearts pounding with pain, large beads of sweat rolling down their faces.

Xue Jin glanced at them coldly, then turned and went to the sofa, sitting down next to the little girl—Lian Yu, her hair disheveled, her eyes filled with terror, her slender frame curled up into a small ball on the sofa. Only

now, up close, did Xue Jin notice the shocking wounds on Lian Yu's face, and a pang of pain shot through him, igniting his resentment to its peak.

He turned back and kicked Bai Sisi again, causing her to cry out in despair, completely breaking down: "Waaah… Xue Jin, are you even human? You hit me! You're keeping a little bitch, waaaah…"

"Not only are you unfaithful, but now you're courting death? Don't you want to live?" Xue Jin stood in the center of the living room, hands on his hips, furious, wanting to kick Bai Sisi again.

But seeing her face contorted in pain, Bai Sisi realized that her kicks earlier hadn't been light either. If anything happened to her, things would get really messy.

Bai Sisi lay sprawled on the floor, unable to straighten up, and finally collapsed onto the floor, sprawled out.

"Live? Live what? You're driving me to my death! She's just a woman! You could play around with her, but look at you now, neglecting your family all day, how have you treated me? You don't even touch me, I'm living like a widow..." Bai Sisi sobbed, fiercely accusing him. As she spoke, she subconsciously punched the floor, but this action aggravated her injuries, causing another sharp pain.

Xue Jin scoffed at her words: "You think you can live like a widow? Don't be ridiculous."

Bai Sisi felt breathless at the mention of this, but that couldn't be an excuse for Xue Jin's indulgence. She glanced sideways at Lian Yu on the sofa. Perhaps sensing her gaze, the little girl also glanced at her, but only for a moment before shrinking back.

Lian Yu had been stunned by the beating and was only now regaining some of her senses. She felt only fear, shame, and an indescribable grievance.

"You fucking hit me for such a piece of trash? What the hell were you thinking? Don't you have any feelings for me at all?" Bai Sisi said, tears streaming down her face, resorting to a conciliatory approach.

Bai Sisi was now wary of Xue Jin, knowing he had changed. Although somewhat disheartened, she didn't really want to break off relations.

Xue Jin remained silent, his face cold.

Bai Sisi became even more agitated: "If you hit me, I'm going to die! There's no point in living anyway, just kill me! Waaah, why am I so unlucky..."

At this moment, her friend Tao finally managed to get up from the ground. She was in pain too, but Xue Jin's kick hadn't been as hard as Bai Sisi's.

She staggered to her friend's side and plopped down on the floor: "Xue Jin, are you being reasonable? I came to break up the fight, why did you kick me?"

She was furious.

Xue Jin frowned slightly, turned to look at Lian Yu, and the little girl nodded slightly.

Xue Jin turned back, his face still tense, showing no intention of apologizing.

"You're such a scoundrel! Harming a minor and beating your wife! There are very few men like you in this world!" Tao stammered, her anger barely contained.

"Enough, you can get out." Xue Jin's expression hardened, issuing an order to leave.

The two women exchanged a glance, both wanting to devour Xue Jin, but they were powerless against his advances. The sister, Tao, felt Bai Sisi was being treated too cruelly: "Sisi, let's go. Let's divorce this bastard. Are we afraid we won't find another man?"

Bai Sisi burst into tears, almost wailing and screaming, completely throwing a tantrum: "I...I...why am I so...unlucky...I found, found such a man...sob...I regret it so much..."

Bai Sisi gained nothing from this farce, ending up in the hospital and dragging her best friend down with her. The only consolation was that she had taught that bitch a lesson, but regardless, she didn't want a divorce. This incident was merely a warning to Xue Jin and the bitch, hoping they wouldn't go too far. Xue Jin was furious at Bai Sisi's actions, but ultimately it was his fault, and Lian Yu wasn't seriously injured, so he didn't pursue the matter further. The young girl was emotionally shaken; the sudden attack had thrown her into a panic, making her realize her own weakness. Amidst self-pity and sorrow, she increasingly felt that this life was shameful, dangerous, and unbearable.

The day after the incident, Xue Jin moved to a new home—the Grand Garden—with the injured Lian Yu. Late

January 81

:

While the north had entered deep winter, the beautiful Jiangnan water town of City A remained sunny and warm, though the temperature had dropped considerably. People donned fleece sweaters and thermal underwear to ward off the changing weather.

The provincial government compound was a hive of activity in the morning.

"Hurry, hurry...this table, put it here..." A man in his forties stood in the middle of the wide square, his brow furrowed, giving serious instructions to seven or eight staff members.

Rows of wooden chairs were arranged, with several tables in front of them—tea cups and flowers on them. A round microphone occasionally emitted a hoarse sound in the gentle breeze.

"The banner...the banner, whose is it?" Seeing that the setup was complete, the man looked up and realized that the most important thing was missing.

The staff doing these odd jobs were all young, newly arrived employees. In government offices, the first few years are spent starting from the bottom; this is the only way to advance, though there are exceptions.

Several recent university graduates, unaccustomed to such demands on campus, had been busy for nearly an hour without even a sip of water, yet they dared not slack off.

"It's here, it's here..." A refined-looking man, hearing his superior ask for a banner, hurriedly pulled it out of his pocket, quickly approached the man, and handed it over.

"..." The man's already bad expression turned even more ashen.

"What did you do? It's all crumpled up, is it even usable?" He roared at the young man.

"Section Chief, I, I was just in a hurry!" The young man felt wronged and helpless, thinking to himself how he'd gotten himself into

this mess. "Alright, enough nonsense, what are you standing there for? Hang it up now." Although the man was angry, he glanced at his watch; time was running out.

He'd deal with it first.

The man stood aside, watching the young man's clumsy movements, and couldn't help but scold him a few more times. Finally, he said angrily, "I'll settle this score with you later."

Some leaders in government offices operate on the principle of flattering their superiors while treating their subordinates with disdain.

This guy was always like that; every time a new batch of people left his department, they would secretly curse him.

The man took a few steps back, looking at the banner: Construction Department, 20xx Annual Summary and Commendation Conference, clearly visible.

Looking at the slight wrinkles on the lettering, the man felt it wasn't too noticeable with each new batch of people, and nodded with a forced smile.

Just then, people started coming out of the main building. The man knew the meeting was about to start. He turned and gave a signal to a few subordinates, then quietly retreated to the side.

A high-ranking leader like Xue Jin was the last to enter. As he stepped into the open-air meeting room, he could feel the increasingly loud murmurs below.

Among a group of oddly dressed men in suits, the young and handsome Xue Jin stood out like a prince charming.

Xue Jin was the youngest director, having only recently joined the department, so out of humility, he chose to walk at the back, and his seat wasn't on the side.

The director-general sat in the center of the long table, with Xue Jin sitting right next to him, indicating his high status.

After all the leaders were seated, the man who had been standing aside had another chance to go on stage. Holding a microphone, he began to organize the proceedings briefly, and then, according to the meeting agenda, began the meeting.

Usually at this time, the heads of various departments would speak, and Xue Jin, as the person in charge of his area, would also give a summary.

After the director-general and his brother-in-law finished their preambles, Xue Jin sat up straight and began to speak eloquently about his achievements and shortcomings this year.

Due to Xue Jin's outstanding performance at that meeting, Director Liang entrusted him with full responsibility for the reinforcement of primary and secondary school buildings. He mainly emphasized the progress and achievements of his work.

China suffered a devastating earthquake in Wenchuan in 2008, which shocked everyone.

The central leadership allocated special funds for reinforcing school buildings—students were the hardest hit in the earthquake, and most school buildings were poorly constructed.

As time passed, the Wenchuan earthquake was over, but other provinces and cities subsequently experienced earthquakes, drawing attention back to this issue.

Therefore, Xue Jin's opening remarks immediately captured the attention of the hundred or so people seated below.

Today, Xue Jin wore a purple sweater over a dark gray suit; his broad shoulders, handsome face, and magnetic, steady voice caused a slight stir among the crowd.

The people in the government offices were usually quite relaxed; the women loved gossip, and the men enjoyed joining in the fun, but they didn't know much about their new leader, who had only been there for a few months.

The director, sitting above, had a clear view of the situation below.

He frowned slightly but didn't show displeasure, though he knew in his heart that it was now the era of the young, and Xue Jin's appearance and political acumen were both excellent; in the near future, he would probably have to give way to him.

After Xue Jin finished speaking, a round of applause erupted, making him somewhat proud. The applause was very well received, though he didn't show it outwardly. However, he knew in his heart that he had truly made a name for himself and established a good image in the public eye.

The meeting lasted two hours. As it was dispersing, the leaders were the first to leave. Director Liang, who was walking at the front, suddenly stopped and looked at Xue Jin as he walked in

before smiling and speaking. "Xiao Xue, I see everyone's reaction to you is quite good. Keep up the good work. By the way, I went to report to the governor a couple of days ago, and he specifically praised you, saying you have ability and courage, and are a talent capable of great things." Director Liang patted his shoulder, displaying the demeanor of a superior showing concern for a subordinate.

"Director Liang, this is all thanks to you. If you hadn't trusted me and entrusted me with the reinforcement work, I wouldn't be where I am today. In the future, I hope you will continue to promote me." Xue Jin walked alongside him, his face beaming.

"Yes, no problem, no problem. I'm about to retire anyway, so this position will definitely be yours. If I ever need your help in the future..." Although Director Liang really wanted his brother-in-law to take the position, his backing wasn't strong enough, so he knew perfectly well that the position of director would eventually belong to Xue Jin.

"Sigh... You overestimate me. I wouldn't even dare to dream of being a director..." Xue Jin feigned helplessness, but was secretly excited: "In the future, as long as I can get things done, you don't need to ask me directly; just have someone pass on the message." Xue Jin quickly agreed. "

Hahaha, well done, you truly are someone I admire." Director Liang revealed a sly smile, moving quietly, knowing that Xue Jin's words were not what they seemed.

The two entered the building, and the large group behind them dispersed, people returning to their posts.

Around noon, Xue Jin and his assistant went to the cafeteria for lunch. The young man reported that during the Spring Festival, well-performing companies would give their employees bonuses, and government departments, known for their good benefits, naturally included gifts.

Xue Jin listened; they were mostly fruit, rice, and alcohol. He casually instructed his assistant to put the items in the trunk of his car.

Just as he finished speaking, Xue Jin suddenly remembered something.

"How many bags of rice? How many boxes of fruit?" he asked abruptly.

The young man hesitated, then shook his head somewhat embarrassedly: "Director Xue, I really don't know."

Xue Jin glanced at him but said nothing. Around 4 PM, the department held another brief meeting, but this time it wasn't as boring as the morning's.

After a busy year, everyone looked forward to this time—an inspection tour.

Called an inspection tour, it was really just about eating, drinking, and having fun, spending public funds, indulging in corruption. Usually, they only indulged in corruption within the province; this time, they were going to another province to splurge.

The high-ranking leaders, seven or eight in total, sat around the conference table and began their discussion.

Opinions differed, primarily regarding domestic versus international issues, and secondly, there were differing preferences regarding the province.

After much chatter and debate, the location was finally settled: Denmark.

Denmark is a small country with a temperate maritime climate, situated between Northern and Central Europe. Influenced by southwest winds from the Atlantic, Denmark enjoys mild winters and cool summers, making it very suitable for human habitation. Denmark

doesn't possess particularly outstanding natural resources, but it is a highly developed country, especially known for its avant-garde lifestyle, which attracts many.

Denmark has red-light districts and gay dating spots, and most notably, its sexual culture is very open; it is one of the few countries that recognizes same-sex marriage.

Therefore, it's self-evident what this group wanted to see in Denmark: blonde beauties and attractive foreign women.

Finally, everyone reached a consensus on going to Denmark, laughing and joking tacitly as they discussed how to plan the trip. Xue Jin was naturally very excited as it was his first time going abroad on official business, but he wasn't entirely satisfied with Denmark. He wanted to choose a renowned country, though he didn't show it outwardly.

Finally, Xue Jin was quite interested in some of Director Liang's remarks: being allowed to bring family members.

But what kind of family members? That was quite intriguing. Were they wives or relatives? Everyone knew that none of them had impeccable morals; they all had their share of affairs. So no one said anything. If they could bring their mistresses, they would; if not, they would just go and enjoy themselves. Nobody wanted to bring their wives to keep them in check.

Besides, if you brought a mistress, it would expose the other comrades' mistresses, so it was an unspoken rule.

Xue Jin left the meeting room and headed straight for the parking lot, pondering the matter as he walked. After all, it was his first year on official business, and everything had to be done cautiously.

He opened the trunk and checked the gifts inside: high-quality Wuchang fragrant rice in a bucket, seasonal southern fruits, and some seafood.

Xue Jin closed the hood, turned around, and got into the driver's seat. He was thinking about how to distribute these things—theoretically, one for his family and one for Lian Yu, he couldn't be biased.

The car moved steadily along the road. At a red light, Xue Jin stepped on the brake. He took out his phone from his pocket and dialed Bai Sisi's shop number.

After a while, there was a reply: "Hello!"

"Sisi, I have a business dinner tonight, I might be home late." Xue Jin watched the red light turn green, shifted gears, and slowly pulled over.

"Oh~~, when don't you have a business dinner?" Bai Sisi blurted out, full of resentment.

"..." Xue Jin frowned slightly, ignoring her, and continued, "The company distributed some things, and I'm going abroad for a business trip in a few days. I'm letting you know beforehand."

"Really?" Bai Sisi's voice betrayed surprise, but she quickly changed her mind: "Can I come with you?"

"No, this is a business trip, I can't bring family members." Xue Jin refused her decisively.

"Oh~" Bai Sisi snorted in dissatisfaction, unhappy but helpless. To balance herself out, she said, "Since you're leaving, I'll go traveling too."

Xue Jin's heart skipped a beat: "Where are you going? What about the work at your shop?" "I'll go wherever I

want. I'll take care of things at the shop, you don't need to worry about it." Bai Sisi's words were domineering.

Xue Jin didn't really care where she went, as long as she didn't go to the same place as him.

"What about the child?" His son was going on vacation in a few days, who would take care of him if they both left? "

Leave him at my parents' house, they're happy to look after him anyway." Bai Sisi said matter-of-factly.

Xue Jin felt she lacked love for her child and couldn't help but complain, "Can't you spend more time with him if you're not his mother?"

"Spend time with him? He's so big already, does he need me to always be with him?" Bai Sisi loved her son, though she didn't usually show it.

Xue Jin couldn't argue with her and didn't want to waste words, thinking to himself: if they divorced in the future, their son would definitely stay with him; otherwise, Bai Sisi would have a hard time taking care of him.

"Fine, fine, you're right. There are traffic police ahead, I won't say any more." Xue Jin hung up the phone. The traffic police glanced at his license plate but didn't stop him.

After all, Xue Jin was driving a government vehicle; the police had no reason to cause him trouble.

In winter, it gets dark early. When Xue Jin drove to Haoyuan, the sky in the distance had already turned gray.

Xue Jin frequently entered and exited Haoyuan, so the security guards were familiar with his car and let him pass without checking. When he parked downstairs at Lian Yu's building, he looked up and saw a bright light shining from a window.

Xue Jin's lips curled into a slight smile, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. He stepped out of the car, took out rice and fruit from the trunk, and carried them with both hands.

There weren't many items, but they were quite heavy. After taking the elevator upstairs, he quickly arrived at his front door.

He pressed the intercom button, and after a moment, a clear, pleasant voice came from inside: "Who is it?"

"Open the door," Xue Jin replied simply. He usually used his key to open the door, but today both his hands were occupied. With a

click, the security door opened.

Lian Yu was wearing beige loungewear, her hair simply styled in a ponytail, hanging casually on the left side of her head. A pair of yellow-green heart-shaped crystal balls were used as decoration, held in place by her hair tie, making her look cute and playful.

She looked at the items in the man's hands and asked curiously, "Did you buy these?"

"No, they were given to me by my company. Where should I put them?" Xue Jin asked as he walked towards the kitchen.

The kitchen was quite large, with a full set of cabinets and utensils, all brand new. Lian Yu glanced at them and quickly opened one of the cabinets and utensils; the space inside was spacious and sparsely furnished.

"Here it is." Lian Yu held the cabinet door, watching Xue Jin put the rice inside, and then stuffed the remaining small box of fruit in as well.

Xue Jin stood up and clapped his hands.

"The food is ready, go wash your hands first." Lian Yu closed the cabinet door and said naturally.

Xue Jin smiled slightly; the little girl's snow-white skin glowed with a healthy luster under the kitchen light, making him unable to resist leaning down to kiss her.

"You, what are you doing?" Lian Yu blushed from his kiss, taking small steps, then quickly and guiltily turned to look out the window.

"I'm happy today!" Xue Jin smiled again, said this, and turned to leave.

Lian Yu subconsciously glared at him, then began carrying the food to the small dining room—a corner separated from the living room by thick, hard glass, simply furnished with a table and a few chairs.

When Xue Jin came out of the bathroom, his bangs were still damp, but he looked much fresher, and the scent of soap was faintly noticeable.

He had taken off his suit jacket at some point, revealing a purple V-neck sweater that looked elegant and sophisticated on him, and was very comfortable.

He sat in the dining room chair, the food laid out on the table, while Lian Yu stood opposite him, serving him soup.

Xue Jin watched the little girl's every move, and finally, when the soup bowl was placed in front of him, he softly thanked her, then took the spoon Lian Yu offered.

"Xiao Yu, did you simmer this soup for too long?" Xue Jin took a sip and looked up to ask her.

Lian Yu held the steel spoon handle, took a large sip, and, hearing his question, replied with considerable confusion, "Two hours? What's wrong? Doesn't it taste good?"

She had already tasted it and thought it was alright.

"..." Xue Jin didn't answer her immediately. Actually, the soup was just average; it was probably undercooked. But he didn't want the girl to waste too much time; she should learn to be more discerning about food.

"It's alright," Xue Jin said dismissively.

Seeing that he had only taken a few sips before pushing the bowl aside and starting to eat, Lian Yu felt a little unhappy. After all, she had painstakingly prepared this; was it really that bad?

Xue Jin noticed her expression and smiled slightly, quickly praising her, "Your cooking is getting better and better; it's almost like a restaurant chef's work. I love it."

Lian Yu put a mouthful of rice in her mouth, lowered her head, and couldn't help but smile.

Next, Xue Jin asked Lian Yu about school. She had to attend extra classes during winter break; after all, she was a ninth-grade girl facing the high school entrance exam.

Xue Jin nodded, but didn't agree to let Lian Yu enroll in the school's classes. Instead, he planned to go to the Experimental High School in City A and try to find connections to get her into their winter break tutoring program.

Lian Yu looked hesitant, wondering if she could keep up.

Xue Jin knew this might be difficult for Lian Yu, but the teaching quality there was good, which would be very helpful. In fact, Xue Jin had already made some plans for the girl's future.

Lian Yu's foundation was poor, and she was studying at such a bad school; her chances of getting into the Experimental High School were zero. So Xue Jin had secretly used his connections, and if all else failed, he would pay to get her into a prestigious school.

But these follow-up arrangements weren't something to discuss now.

After they finished eating, they sat on the sofa watching TV. Xue Jin told her about the trip.

"What? Going abroad?" Lian Yu's eyes lit up, unable to hide her surprise.

"Yes, do you want to go?" Xue Jin took his hands off the back of the sofa and tightly encircled the girl's slender waist.

"I... I'm not good at English," Lian Yu said somewhat embarrassed.

“It’s alright, I’m here. I’m good at English, I can translate for you.” Xue Jin smiled gently.

“…” Lian Yu tilted her head and thought for a moment, seemingly preoccupied.

“What? Are you afraid I’ll sell you?” Xue Jin couldn’t help but tease her.

Lian Yu glared at him fiercely, gently twisting her body, trying to break free from the man’s grasp.

“Don’t move? Tell me, are you going or not?” Xue Jin’s large hands were very strong; if he didn’t want to, the little girl wouldn’t escape his control.

“I want to go, but what about my brother?” Lian Yu looked at him seriously and said.

“…” Xue Jin looked at her in confusion.

“My brother said he might be released from prison soon, and then he won’t be able to find me…” Seeing the man’s very unpleasant expression, Lian Yu didn’t dare to continue.

Lian Yu had never talked to Xue Jin about this issue before, but now she had to.

She wanted to leave, she desperately wanted to leave. She only had so much time left to spend with him. After her brother was released from prison, he really had no reason to keep her...

She had followed him for so long without knowing why, and the thought of it made her furious and resentful, especially after Bai Sisi came knocking on her door. It had truly terrified her, and even now, she slept in fear at night.

Xue Jin smiled coldly. How could he not understand her meaning?

"Xiaoyu, I promise you, as long as your brother is released, I'll let you go back to him. What do you think?"

The little girl wasn't stupid. Xue Jin's demeanor wasn't as relaxed as he made it sound. She had a bad feeling, but for now, she preferred to leave herself some hope.

"You...you mean it?" she muttered softly.

"I mean it..." Xue Jin curled his lip, a sarcastic tone in his voice, as if saying to the little girl: Don't you trust me?

The Eighty-Second Dilemma

: The Trip to Europe. Under Xue Jin's insistence and persuasion, the little girl hesitated repeatedly before finally agreeing.

That day, after lunch, Chen Lin, hands in his pockets, walked along the narrow path towards the guard post a mile away—the cell warden had told him that morning to come and collect some belongings.

Since arriving here, Chen Lin had lived a very comfortable life, wearing new clothes every month and eating meat every few days. The other prisoners knew he had some connections and both envied and resented him.

They envied his good life but resented his occasional acts of violence against them.

Lian Jun was also implicated; whenever Chen Lin wasn't around, he often faced disdain from some people. Lian Jun felt helpless but could only endure it, as he had no power to confront Chen Lin. Fortunately, he might soon be free.

At the guard post, there was an office specifically for receiving visitors. Usually, visits were held there, though there were exceptions. Last time Xue came in, he directly toured the cells.

The soldiers on guard saw Chen Lin's tall figure from afar and hurried to greet him as he approached.

"Chen Lin, here to pick up some stuff again?" The young man wasn't very diligent on duty; this godforsaken place rarely saw anyone and was usually quite boring.

Chen Lin was always coming and going, and over time, the two became acquainted.

"Yeah." Chen Lin smiled when he saw him, looking quite happy.

The two went inside together, and after Chen Lin signed the papers at the office, he retrieved the package. Afterward, they came out and sat down on the dry grass not far away.

The young man looked at Chen Lin, eagerly opening the package, his eyes fixed longingly on two packs of Zhonghua cigarettes among the pile of items.

Chen Lin glanced at him sideways, casually opening two packs and handing them to him.

The young man blushed, stammering and declining. He would have accepted the usual Furongwang or Little Panda cigarettes, but this was Zhonghua; he had only smoked it once, at a friend's wedding banquet.

"Don't be polite, here, take it." Chen Lin impatiently shoved the cigarette into the young man's hand, as if he'd really get angry if he didn't take it.

The young man chuckled awkwardly and scratched his head sheepishly, "Thanks, Brother Chen."

Chen Lin wasn't particularly generous or magnanimous; he had no intention of bothering with someone as insignificant as him. However, this young man wasn't entirely useless; at least he was simple and sincere.

"Did you bring your phone? Let me use it." Chen Lin had just given the man a favor, and now he wanted to get some interest back.

Upon hearing this, the young man quickly pulled out his Motorola from his waist. Two packs of Zhonghua cigarettes could cover his monthly phone bill. Now that Chen Lin wanted to use the phone, he was offering it up without hesitation. Although this was somewhat against the rules, if no one reported it, it would be fine; even if someone snitched, it wouldn't be a big problem.

In the labor camp, prisoners weren't allowed to use cell phones. Chen Lin smiled smugly, turned around, walked ten steps away, and started dialing.

About five minutes later, he returned the phone to the young man.

"Brother Chen, you're about to get out, right?" The young man had a cigarette dangling from his lips—obviously just taken from the two packs he'd received—and reached out to pull one out, handing it to Chen Lin.

Chen Lin took it, smelled it, and the strong tobacco aroma of the Zhonghua cigarette invigorated him. "Who told you that? You're quite well-informed."

The young man still smiled, holding his lighter close to Chen Lin's lips. After Chen Lin lit the cigarette, he continued, "Everyone's concerned about your situation. I was just asking casually. Of all the people here after lunch, you're the luckiest. You'll be able to celebrate the Spring Festival after you get out."

Chen Lin casually exhaled a smoke ring. "Lian Jun will also be released before the New Year. This time, we can both reunite with our families."

The young man paused, taken aback.

Chen Lin thought he was playing dumb: "What, don't tell me you don't know who Lian Jun is."

Their affair was common knowledge within their small circle. Chen Lin's openness made it clear to everyone that Lian Jun was his sexual partner. Some were indifferent, some cursed and sympathized, but most were just watching the drama unfold.

The young man chuckled after realizing what was happening, but his expression seemed full of confusion.

"What's wrong? Something's up?" Chen Lin asked, puzzled.

"Uh, Brother Chen, I haven't heard that Lian Jun is also going to be released? The other day we were playing mahjong, and XX said that only you can leave before the New Year." The young man told the truth.

This time, it was Chen Lin's turn to be dumbfounded.

He blinked, somewhat confused. After thinking for a moment, he looked up and asked, "That's not right. Lian Jun's sentence is short, and his behavior after this labor camp wasn't bad. Why can't he come out with me?"

Chen Lin's tone turned unfriendly, leaving the young man somewhat bewildered. He looked at Chen Lin innocently and shook his head. "Brother Chen, maybe I misheard. I'll ask him next time."

"Don't say next time. Call XX now." Chen Lin realized he had lost his temper but didn't want to control it—if everything was true, he would be very upset.

Although Chen Lin was domineering and rude, and somewhat cunning, he had developed a strange fondness for Lian Jun lately. Although they sometimes argued, especially about sex, which usually required physical force to subdue each other, wasn't that a kind of fun in life?

Lian Jun's presence had added a lot of fun to his prison life. He hadn't gotten tired of this cat-and-mouse game yet and hoped that everything could continue after his release.

At this time of year, the grass on the farm is dry and yellow, so there's no need for daily grazing. However, people aren't idle; there's still endless work to be done.

Chen Lin wandered around the two rows of steel-framed prefabricated houses for a couple of moments, finishing a cigarette before finally going inside.

The machines were roaring, and 'workers' wearing masks were meticulously working under them—wool and spools of yarn were simply combined and transformed into cashmere products on the production line.

Insoles, cashmere gloves, knee pads, and other simple, small items were produced here and then sold to specific regions.

"Hey, Chen Lin, what brings you here today?" The supervisor was taken aback when he swaggered in.

Chen Lin acted like a tyrant here, though no one dared to say anything—he didn't graze livestock in the summer and didn't enter the workshop in the winter.

"I'm here to see my wife..." Chen Lin smirked, looking around.

The supervisor smiled obsequiously, his face full of ambiguous expression. He turned around and pointed, "There she is, no one's missing. You've been keeping a close eye on her."

Chen Lin raised an eyebrow like a scoundrel, glancing at him sideways, "What? Are you envious?"

The supervisor felt very uncomfortable under his gaze, coughing awkwardly, and patted Chen Lin's shoulder, saying, "You little rascal, you never learn to be good, always so frivolous."

After the joke, Chen Lin walked past the supervisor and came to Lian Jun's side.

The young man was wearing a navy blue work uniform made of washed fabric, looking somewhat rustic, but his earnest work appearance was still quite endearing—Lian Jun was in charge of product inspection.

Amidst the noise of the machines, he didn't hear Chen Lin's footsteps until the man was so close that he was startled.

Lian Jun turned around, saw it was him, and glared at him irritably: "Why are you here?"

Although Chen Lin wasn't a germaphobe, he didn't want to come to such a dirty and tiring place as the workshop. He had tried to persuade Lian Jun to quit the job, but the other man was completely unmoved. He

only coldly retorted, "Mind your

own business." Chen Lin was very unhappy that he had been treated this way, but he didn't lay a hand on him.

However, that didn't mean he would swallow his anger. His revenge was quickly carried out that night—after dinner, he dragged Lian Jun into bed. The other man had been exhausted all day and should have gone to sleep early, but the guy had no intention of letting him rest; instead, he continued to torment him with boundless energy.

The next day, Lian Jun's buttocks and back ached, but he endured it, gritting his teeth and going to work. This went on for three days, until the fourth day when Lian Jun ended up in the hospital.

Seeing him suffer and looking sickly, Chen Lin wondered if he had gone too far.

After Lian Jun was discharged from the hospital, his desires subsided considerably. Lian Jun was stubborn, especially fond of opposing Chen Lin, but he often ended up getting hurt.

"Wife, I missed you, so I came." Chen Lin constantly talked about his wife, and now Lian Jun was tired of it.

At first, he would fly into a rage, but now he was used to it.

Lian Jun ignored him, still busy supervising the products. Seeing this, Chen Lin tugged at his sleeve: "I need to talk to you, ask your supervisor for leave!"

Lian Jun rolled his eyes: "Do you think I'm like you? I'm working right now, I can't take leave."

Chen Lin was displeased and quickly grabbed his hand, pulling him away. Lian Jun, seeing his stubbornness, was helpless and anxiously shouted: "Chen Lin, can't we talk about it when we get home tonight?"

"No, if you won't ask for leave, I'll ask for you." The two of them dragged each other to the supervisor. Chen Lin's words carried

weight; with a simple "I need to talk to him," without even considering the supervisor's wishes, he dragged Lian Jun away.

Lian Jun stopped struggling, his face pale and flushed with anger. They walked to a small grove of trees before Chen Lin stopped.

He turned to face Lian Jun and said slowly, "I'll be released from prison soon, and I hope you can come with me."

Lian Jun sulked, his head bowed. The earlier scuffle between the two men was too embarrassing. Even though everyone knew their relationship, Lian Jun still felt uncomfortable.

In his heart, he felt that overly ambiguous behavior should be avoided; after all, he was a man with self-respect.

"You go your way, I'll go mine," Lian Jun said angrily, raising his head.

Chen Lin wasn't surprised that Lian Jun would say such a thing. Their current relationship was entirely due to circumstances. If Lian Jun were in a normal life, he would definitely try to avoid him.

"You're mine, and I'll take responsibility," Chen Lin said, his body stiff with anger, blurting out the words in a daze.

Both of them were stunned. Lian Junxiang felt extremely insulted and angrily yelled at him, "I'm a man, I don't need you to take any responsibility, I just want you to stay away from me."

Chen Lin's breath hitched, and he struggled to catch his breath before his breathing became rapid.

His own words had startled him. Should he take responsibility? He was used to being unruly; how could he say something like that today? Had he lost his mind? Before he could even figure it out, Lian Jun's words had enraged him.

"Don't want it? Who was it that begged me to sleep with them? Looking like this, how can you even hold a woman?" Chen Lin blurted out, his words uttered without thinking.

Lian Jun was filled with shame and embarrassment, immediately blaming everything on Chen Lin. Thinking about the ways Chen Lin had tormented him, he wished he could disappear into the ground.

"You forced me to do this! You're shameless!" Lian Jun's eyes reddened with anger.

Chen Lin knew his methods weren't exactly honorable, but he coldly chuckled, "I'm shameless, I've always been shameless, I'm a rogue."

Lian Jun gritted his teeth, furious, glaring at him for a long time before retorting, "Despicable is the way of the despicable."

Chen Lin laughed at his insult, reverting to his roguish self, and said nonchalantly, "Heh heh, I'm illiterate, can you explain what that means to me?"

Lian Jun turned his head away, pursing his lips, "Do I need an explanation? Just look at yourself and you'll understand."

Chen Lin touched his nose, then licked his lips, inwardly lamenting: I didn't want to argue with him, how did we end up like this? He was stubborn to begin with, and if this continued…

He steadied himself, calmly exhaling a breath of stale air.

"Lian Jun, I'm sorry, I was a bit impulsive just now, but I was worried about you." He began to apologize, appealing to his emotions.

Lian Jun ignored him.

“We came here together, and I thought we could get out together, but I just found out you might have to continue serving your sentence here, so I’m a little emotional…”

Lian Jun suddenly turned his head, his heart pounding.

“What did you say?”

“Don’t worry, I was surprised when I first found out, but it’s true. I’ve already checked with XX.” Chen Lin was also very downcast.

“Why? Why? What did I do wrong?” After the initial surprise, Lian Jun was filled with confusion and anger, and he shouted hysterically.

Chen Lin’s sentence was longer than his, and he wasn’t working on the farm, while he considered himself to have behaved reasonably well. Why could Chen Lin get out, but he couldn’t?

He was looking forward to spending the Spring Festival with his sister. But now it was all ruined. How could he accept this?

“Lian Jun, don’t get agitated, listen to me.” Chen Lin quickly comforted him when he saw that he was tense.

“You know, in today’s society, you can’t achieve your goals just by not working hard and doing well.” Chen Lin mentally organized his thoughts, “In this world, fairness can only be earned through your own efforts. I’m telling you this now because there’s no turning back.”

“What turning back?” Lian Jun regained some composure from his initial panic.

“I’ll have my brother help me get you out of here. What do you think?” Chen Lin had planned his strategy beforehand, but he knew the other party was stubborn, so he wasn’t confident.

Lian Jun paused, acutely aware of something—recalling their conversation, Lian Jun understood that if he accepted his favor, he would have to pay a price.

His mind raced again, his face haggard, and he sighed softly, “Let me think about it, okay?”
