morning, Lachong, northern B country, the capital of the K ethnic autonomous region. In a spacious
courtyard in the somewhat dilapidated northern part of the city, the guard battalion belonging to the KS Independent Army headquarters was stationed. A jeep roared into the courtyard and screeched
to a halt. Du Mai jumped out of the car excitedly and walked towards a detached bamboo house deep in the courtyard.
The female soldiers on duty and training inside and outside the courtyard stopped and saluted him when they saw Du Mai, but he ignored them and strode
forward.

Reaching the door of the bamboo house, the two armed female soldiers standing guard at the door stood at attention and saluted. Just as they were about to speak, Du Mai waved his hand,
pointed inside, and asked in a low voice, "Are you up?" The female soldiers at the door nodded. Du Mai smiled,
stepped to the door, and was about to push it open when he suddenly remembered something and knocked twice on the door.

Before he could lower his hand, the door creaked open, and Manfeng, dressed in standard jungle camouflage combat uniform, stood
expressionless in the doorway. Du Mai sized up the stunningly
beautiful woman in military attire standing before him, grinned, and said casually, "Madam, last night…"

"Who's Madam?" Manfeng's face tightened, and she rudely interrupted Du Mai, turning and going back inside.

Du Mai pursed his lips, quickly followed her in, closed the door behind him, and strode to Manfeng, continuing with
his grin , "Congratulations, Madam…

" "You…" Manfeng glared at Du Mai angrily, about to turn away, when he
magically produced a stack of newspapers from somewhere and waved them in front of her.

Manfeng's eyes lit up, because in that fleeting moment, she seemed to see a familiar face on one of the newspapers. She snatched
the newspapers and unfolded them, seeing the front page headline: "ZX Country Drug Lord Long Kun Arrested, to be Extradited to T Country Soon."
Below the headline was a large photo that took up almost half the page. Seeing that repulsive face, Manfeng's
heart pounded wildly, almost leaping out of her throat: It really was Long Kun! Long Kun was truly finished!

Manfeng read the newspaper several times; it was undeniable, Long Kun had really been caught! She could hardly believe
her luck. A few words overheard by chance, a desperate gamble with her life, had actually hit the mark. She
didn't quite understand why Long Kun was arrested by the police of T country. But the location mentioned in the news was indeed that
small mountain village called Mengjia Mountain in LS country. The news also mentioned that, after identification and DNA comparison by the police of ZX country, it was indeed Long Kun
without a doubt.

Manfeng burst into tears of joy, threw the newspaper on the ground, covered her face with her hands, and cried uncontrollably. Seeing this, Mai
quickly helped her sit down on the bed next to her. After an unknown amount of time, Manfeng cried herself to sleep, her sobs becoming
intermittent. Du Mai pried Manfeng's hands apart and said with a smile, "This is the grand vow you made that day,
isn't it?"

Seeing Manfeng wiping her red, tear-stained eyes without answering, Du Mai grinned mischievously and said, "Your great vow has been fulfilled, should
n't you give thanks... Madam?"

"Pah, shut up!" Manfeng glared at Du Mai fiercely, then turned away, ignoring him.

Du Mai didn't know what he had said wrong, scratching his head uncertainly, "Feng... Feng..."

Manfeng turned her face, opened her red, tear-stained eyes, and looked at Du Mai, saying each word clearly, "You're not allowed to mention that name in front of me
..." Without waiting for Du Mai's reaction, she softened her tone and said, "Don't worry, I
'll never break my promise to you, but you didn't make this up to fool me, did you?"

This time it was Du Mai's turn to glare. He picked up the newspaper from the ground and said to Manfeng, "Look carefully, this wasn't
printed by me. It's a newspaper from the government of Country B. I specially had it bought from outside and delivered to you."

Suddenly remembering something, he called out towards the door, "Meng Hong, come in!"

"Yes..." A tall young man entered, the same
attendant who always followed Du Mai. Du Mai said to Meng Hong, "Where's your computer? Take it out and let Madam Feng... see the news."

"Yes." Meng Hong, clearly prepared, agreed and took a
laptop , opening it and placing it in front of Manfeng.

Manfeng looked at the computer curiously, discovering it was a trendy Apple product, a new model she had never seen before.
Even more surprising, it had an internet connection. After a moment's thought, she awkwardly
opened a commonly used portal website and, sure enough, found the news of Long Kun's arrest prominently
displayed .

Manfeng checked several authoritative websites in China, Singapore, and Malaysia to confirm that the news of Long Kun's arrest
was absolutely true , and that he had been captured based on the information she had provided. She let out a sigh of relief, slammed her laptop shut,
and said decisively to Du Mai, "Alright, you win."

Du Mai glanced at Meng Hong triumphantly and chuckled. Seeing this, Meng Hong wisely turned and left,
closing the door tightly behind him. Manfeng waited until Meng Hong's figure disappeared, then turned to Du Mai and said earnestly, "Are you sure you want me to be
your wife?"

Du Mai nodded hurriedly, "Yes, one hundred percent sure!"

Manfeng's eyes dimmed, she lowered her gaze and avoided looking at Du Mai, saying sadly, "Do you know what I've been through these past two years?
Do you know I'm a defiled woman, an impure woman, do you know that?"

Du Mai pulled a stack of documents from the briefcase Meng Hong had left behind and threw it in front of Manfeng, saying, "I know everything about you
. I don't think you're an impure woman. You managed to persevere in such a desperate environment until today,
and finally sent your enemy to his grave with your own hands. You are the woman I want. I want you to be my wife."

"Wait..." Manfeng raised her hand to interrupt Du Mai, "Don't be so
sure of yourself. This isn't something you can decide alone. You're sure, but I'm not."

Seeing Du Mai's eyes widen, Manfeng said, word by word, "I already said I
'll never go back on my word. But don't forget, what I promised you was that if fate gave me the chance,
I would go with you. But I didn't promise to be your wife."

"What... is there a difference? If you come with me, what else can you do besides be my wife?" Du Mai
stared at Manfeng with wide eyes.

Manfeng didn't hesitate and said without ambiguity, "I have two conditions. If you agree, I will willingly..."
" I'd be willing to be your wife. If you can't agree, then take me away and I'll do anything you want.
I'll be your slave without complaint, even if you send me back to that bunch of scum, I won't say a word..."

"Wait...wait..." Du Mai quickly interrupted Man Feng. He sensed the tense atmosphere in the room
and deliberately said jokingly, "Just two conditions, shouldn't we have a three-point agreement?"

Man Feng's lips curled into a stiff smile at Du Mai's words: "Okay, three points it is. Listen
carefully: First, you must swear that you will never stand against the Xiwan family..."

Du Mai nodded without thinking: "No problem. Whoever you side with, I, Du Mai, will side with."

Man Feng glanced at Du Mai, bit her lip, and said, "Second, you must guarantee that you
will cut all ties ."

"This..." Du Mai hesitated, his eyes fixed on Man Feng's lips as they moved, but he didn't say anything.

Manfeng sneered, "Well, you can't do that, can you? Then our negotiations are over..." She stood
up, holding her arms together in front of Dumai.

Dumai quickly grabbed Manfeng's hands, pulling her back down to sit, and said with difficulty, "I understand what you mean.
Trafficking heroin is a heinous crime, and I don't want to do it..."

"But you just won't agree..." Manfeng looked at Dumai aggressively. Dumai

sighed, "You don't know, our K tribe's territory is all high mountains and deep valleys, with no decent
industries. Our main sources of income are quarrying, logging, and heroin trafficking. Heroin trafficking
accounts for almost half of our total income. If we stop this, a large number of K tribe members will immediately go hungry."

Dumai's complaints made Manfeng fall into deep thought, but she didn't back down. Tears welled in her eyes as she gave a bitter
smile and said, "Then I'll have to make the sacrifice. I mean what I say. I'll do whatever you send me to, I'll have no
complaints, but I just can't be your wife."

Seeing the pain on Du Mai's face, Man Feng felt a pang of pity. She softened her tone and said to Du Mai, " Think
about it, the only meaningful thing I've ever done in my life is being a narcotics officer. That's why I'm hated by Long Kun and fell victim to his schemes. I'm like this now entirely because of him. If you continue trafficking drugs, then you'll be one of him. And if I agree to be your wife, then all the past twenty-odd years of my life will have been wasted. All the suffering I've endured with Long Kun these past two years will have been for nothing. If I had just given in to him, wouldn't everything have been fine? Why go through all this trouble? A narcotics officer who just escaped the clutches of one drug lord, only to immediately become the wife of another drug lord—don't you think that 's the biggest joke in the world?" Man Feng's words left Du Mai speechless, his face alternating between pale and dark. After a long pause, he gritted his teeth and said to Manfeng, "I admit you have a point, and I don't want to be a drug lord hated by everyone. However, the K ethnic group has been trafficking heroin for over a century since the British started here; it's become our livelihood. To be honest, the government is putting pressure on us and has offered conditions: if we stop trafficking heroin, they can consider recognizing the K ethnic autonomous region. Here's the thing: to be frank, I can't completely stop the heroin business immediately, but I can do three things : First, within the K ethnic region's jurisdiction, no one is allowed to grow, manufacture, or use heroin; violators will be executed without mercy. Second, our heroin trafficking will never involve B country or ZX country. Third, give me some time to transition; within five years I will stop all heroin-related business, as you said, completely severing ties with heroin." Du Mai's frankness moved Manfeng. She bit her lip, speechless for a long time, her eyes unfocused, sitting there lost in thought. After a long pause, she turned her gaze to Du Mai. Du Mai tensed up immediately, but then heard Man Feng say softly, "The drugs are only not sold to B country and ZX country?" Du Mai was taken aback, but immediately his face lit up with joy. He grabbed Man Feng's hands and said, "You say, you say where we won't sell them, and we won't sell them there." Man Feng replied without hesitation, "We can't sell them to any country that borders B country." "Okay, okay..." Du Mai nodded repeatedly in agreement, "So, you agree to this?" "There's a transition period, at most three years... Back then, the drug problem in the northern mountainous areas of ZX was much more serious , involving the livelihoods of millions of people, and there was also the obstruction of the opposition party. My brother-in-law solved it in less than three years..." Du Mai was silent for a moment, then gritted his teeth, "Three years it is, I'll listen to you, Madam." Man Feng rolled her eyes at him and said, "It's not something you can just say and forget. If I find out you're just going through the motions, you know the consequences." "I know, I know..." Du Mai wiped the fine sweat from his forehead and stared intently at Man Feng. Manfeng understood what he was waiting for, and sighed deeply, saying, "The third condition is simple: starting today, no... starting now, no one is allowed to mention the name Manfeng again." As she spoke, a pained yet resolute expression appeared on Manfeng's face . Du Mai pondered for a moment before asking, "Not allowed to call you... then what should I call you from now on? Ah Feng, Feng-mei..." "Pah, still talking!" Manfeng said sternly, "You're not allowed to mention those two words in front of me again, not just you, but everyone!" This time, Du Mai didn't hesitate: "Okay, no problem, I'll give the order right away, Madam." Manfeng's gaze froze, and she didn't speak again, then quickly glanced at Du Mai, a blush rising on her cheeks. "Alright, alright, deal!" Du Mai said excitedly, reaching out to put his arm around Manfeng's shoulder. Manfeng stiffened, instinctively stepping back. Du Mai smiled warmly and patted Man Feng's shoulder affectionately: "Wait a moment." He then turned and went out. Du Mai called out something outside, and when he returned to the room, two women followed him. One was a female soldier in jungle camouflage, the same woman who had always been by his side. The other was young and clever, looking to be under twenty, wearing a traditional K tribe sarong. Du Mai pointed to the female soldier and said, "This is A-Jun, you've met her before. She's the commander of the guard battalion, personally trained by A-Mei through thick and thin. She's been with me since A-Mei left, and from now on she'll be with you." A-Jun stepped forward and gave Man Feng a standard military salute: "Madam..." Du Mai then called over the other woman and said to Man Feng, "This is A-Xiang, she'll be in charge of taking care of you from now on."

"Rest in peace."

Ah Xiang called out "Madam" and came over to bow. Man Feng looked Ah Xiang up and down, about to say something, when
Du Mai instructed, "Madam hasn't had breakfast yet, go and prepare it."

Ah Xiang replied "Yes," and turned to leave.

Du Mai pointed at A Jun and said, "From now on, the rear guard battalion will be under your direct command. Whatever it is, just tell A
Jun to do it..."

Man Feng nodded kindly to A Jun, then turned to Du Mai and said, "I don't know how to fight, and I can't command troops
..."

Du Mai chuckled, "You're the wife now, so you need to get into the role as soon as possible!"

Man Feng blushed, and A Jun stood at attention and

said, "If you need anything, please give the order, and A Jun will do her best." Before Man Feng could answer, Du Mai interrupted, "Oh, by the way, there's something I need you to handle personally..."

"What is it?" Man Feng looked up at Du Mai in confusion. She couldn't understand
why she had to handle something personally when she had just agreed to be Du Mai's wife and was still completely clueless about everything. Du

Mai grinned mischievously, "Don't rush, eat first. I'll bring you a big gift later."

Man Feng was taken aback, "What big gift?"

"Alright, stop guessing. I'll go arrange it. Please do me the honor of joining me after breakfast, Madam." As Du Mai
spoke, Ah Xiang had already brought in breakfast. He greeted Man Feng and disappeared like the wind.
