Chapter Seventy-Four: Crossing the River Far Away
Abandoning fame and fortune, my heart is at ease, a smile beyond the white clouds. With a few close friends, what harm is there in drinking heartily? Drunk, I dance with sleeves, feeling the world is
too narrow.
This is a famous piece composed by Guan Yunshi, a breath of fresh air amidst the hustle and bustle of fame and fortune. Reading and singing it carefully,
gently waving a folding fan to the rhythm of the drinking song, is truly one of life's great pleasures.
On the vast sea, the blue waves and sky are nowhere to be seen, only a line of wild geese flying late in the sky, large snowflakes
constantly falling on shoulders, the cold wind howling against the face, bringing a long-lost chill.
On this vast, pristine sea, a large ship sailed against the wind and waves, heading deeper into the ocean.
At the bow sat a group of young people: a dozen musicians in red robes and gauze hats, each holding an instrument, sitting cross-legged. Beside them, a stove simmered fine
wine. Despite the frost and snow, Nangong Xian'er and Jin Yue sat at their respective music tables. Two beautiful young women, one in flowing blue robes
and the other in pristine white, sat nearby. The sea breeze occasionally blew, causing their long hair and delicate shoulders to flutter. In the midst of the swirling
snow, the beautiful women lightly touched the strings, producing melodious music.
A sharp, gleaming longsword flashed. Clad in simple scholar's robes, wielding the sword was Xuan Yuanwen. His long
hair was tied with a jade crown, highlighting his youthful, dashing face. The longsword, like a silver ribbon, gleamed as he performed
a sword dance for the group.
Holding a bamboo flute, Zhou Ning sat cross-legged by the stove, playing his flute. He was still dressed simply in black, a
valuable longsword at his waist, his black hair flowing wildly over his shoulders. The flute music, accompanied by the zither music, floated across the sea. A dozen musicians, their skills superb,
played a chilling melody of the frontier amidst the fragrant aroma of wine!
Xuan Yuanwen, with steady steps, tilted his head and lightly flicked his longsword, a snowflake landing precisely on its tip. His imposing presence was evident as he strode
forward, saying: "Once there was a beautiful woman, Gongsun, whose sword dance moved all four directions.
Spectators were as numerous as mountains, their faces downcast; heaven and earth seemed to bow low.
Swift as Yi shooting down nine suns, graceful as emperors riding dragons.
Coming like thunder, calming its fury, ending like the stillness of the sea.
Crimson lips and pearl-embroidered sleeves, both now lonely; later, disciples spread her fragrance.
The beauty of Lin Ying at Baidi, her wondrous dance of this melody is divine.
Since you have already spoken with me..." Reflecting on the past and present, my sorrow deepens.
The late emperor had eight thousand maidservants, and Gongsun's swordsmanship was unparalleled.
Fifty years have passed in the blink of an eye, the dust and turmoil have clouded the royal court. The Pear
Garden disciples have scattered like smoke, their lingering beauty reflected in the cold sun.
South of Jin Su Dui, the trees have grown tall, and the grasses of Qutang Stone City are withered.
The banquet's urgent music has ended, joy turning
to sorrow as the moon rises in the east. This old man knows not where they have gone, his calloused feet wandering the desolate mountains, his sorrow growing ever stronger.”
Nangong Xian'er pressed her jade-like hands on the zither strings, smiling sweetly, and said, “This poem is most fitting for this scene,
Your Highness. Please…” "Continue!"
Murong Ji, his silver hair flowing, held a whisk in his hand and smiled faintly, "I'll continue with four words:
Heaven's Way is to be kind..."
Those around him clapped and cheered. Jin Yue smiled gently, "Heaven's Way is vast, humanity's Way is vast, but both
are inseparable from the word 'kindness.' Your Highness, why don't you play a tune to add to the merriment?"
As she spoke, Jin Yue stood up gracefully, smiling as she offered her seat. Murong Ji shook his head and smiled helplessly, "Very well,
I'll play a tune to accompany it." "Let's play together ."
With that, she gently sat down cross-legged, placed her whisk in her lap, and lightly pressed the strings of her zither. With a clear, resonant sound, Nangong Xian'er stopped playing and smiled beautifully, "Your Highness , let's play together." Murong Ji's silver hair was draped over his shoulders, and the two zithers simultaneously emitted heavenly sounds. The sword dance became more urgent, and the flute music echoed the zither music. Waves crashed against the large ship in waves. The zither music was sometimes slow and sometimes fast, just like the rise and fall of the waves, yet it had a discernible rhythm, captivating the listeners. Jin Yue gracefully poured wine for everyone. When the song ended, the wine was boiling and fragrant. Everyone raised their cups in toast and encouragement. Snowflakes drifted down from the bow of the boat. Not to mention Murong Ji's profound learning and his reclusive life as a monk , his ten years of wandering the world had left him with countless stories to tell. Everyone vied to sit beside Murong Ji and talk to him . Nangong Xian'er reached out her jade-like hand, poured a cup, and offered it to Murong Ji, smiling, "Your Highness, where have you been the farthest?" Murong Ji took a small sip of wine. With his eyes fixed on the vast sea, he smiled and said, "I've been to the ends of the earth, and I've been to the corners of the sea." Nangong Xian'er's beautiful eyes lit up, and she murmured to herself, "The ends of the earth, the corners of the sea, may all be just a thought away ..." Xuanyuan Wen also looked into the depths of the sea. Just then, the monk Wuxiang, wearing a golden silk robe and with a solemn and dignified appearance, walked out, holding prayer beads in his hands. Behind him were two monk soldiers holding iron rods. Everyone was drinking and laughing, and when they saw the monk Wuxiang, they all put their hands together in prayer, and the atmosphere of drinking relaxed a little. The monk Wuxiang bowed slightly, raised his palm, and uttered, "Namo Amitabha." His Buddhist teachings were profound, and he was revered like a deity. Xuanyuan Wen clasped his hands together and asked, "Master, this journey to the Demon Realm is perilous. Can you foresee the calamities ahead?" The monk Wuxiang sat cross-legged, and someone immediately poured him tea. He was handsome, his eyes gazing at the sea. He said, "The Demon Sea has three forms, and three gates. The first is a raging storm, the second a towering wave, and the third a dragon palace. In each level, savage beasts wreak havoc, swallowing ships." These people on earth were all skilled, but in the vast ocean, they were like lone leaves; no matter how great their abilities, they dared not act recklessly. His words caused everyone to frown. The monk Wuxiang continued, "The Demon Sea is..." It exists to separate the two realms , and is also said to be the two layers of hell in the underworld. The first and second layers are filled with the mournful cries of ghosts, and countless evil spirits. There is also the Devouring Sea Fish, a demon sealed by the gods in the first layer of the sea. Upon hearing this, Jin Yue said, "Master, the Devouring Sea Fish is a heaven-defying being. It committed many evils in the sea, incurring the wrath of heaven and the resentment of men. Wasn't it eventually killed by the gods?" The monk Wuxiang shook his head and said, "What you wish for is also the great wish of the Buddhist community. Unfortunately, the Devouring Sea Fish is still roaming freely in the first layer of the Demon Sea." Murong Ji said calmly, "The Devouring Sea Fish is indeed still alive. The gods only cut out its heart. This heaven-defying demon lives without a heart and has become even more ferocious." Everyone's expression changed, and the monk Wuxiang said compassionately, "Amitabha..."

Murong Ji gazed into the depths of the sea, letting out a soft sigh. Hearing these words, even his appetite for drinking
vanished. Zhou Ning, sword in hand, rose and said, "Once the arrow is released, there's no turning back. If the demons can come to our realm,
why can't we conquer the demon realm?"
Xuan Yuanwen, equally magnanimous, declared, "That's right! They can cross the Demon Sea, so why can't we?"
The monk Wuxiang said, "Excellent, excellent! Remember, there's always a way out."
Murong Ji, whisk in hand, stood up and said, "The Devouring Sea Fish loves to deceive people, transforming into
small islands at sea, leading ships away before suddenly launching an attack, causing shipwreck and death. In my entire life, I have traversed the world and never encountered such a perilous
situation. Infinite Heavenly Venerable..." "!"
The monk Wuxiang shook his head and smiled, "Miss Jin Yue, did Master Ouyang give you the Morning Dew Sword?"
Jin Yue looked at him and said, "Indeed."
The monk Wuxiang and Murong Ji exchanged a glance. The monk Wuxiang smiled gently and said, "The Chi You Sword is in
the hands of Prince Murong Chong. This Morning Dew Sword is also considered a divine weapon, a famous sword treasured by the Liang Kingdom's royal family. Princess Mingxue
brought the Morning Dew Sword to Dingzhou, and Fairy Feishang Xue brought the Chi You Sword to the Northern Kingdom. They are all rare and precious swords."
Murong Ji turned and left, carrying his whisk, disappearing into the swirling snow in the blink of an eye. Jin Yue poured herself another cup of wine and
sipped it lightly, saying, "If a sword has a soul, it must be a soul that looks down on everything."
The monk Wuxiang looked dejected. Yi Xiao said, "That must be it. The soul of a sword is to be indifferent to everything. As long as its master is brave
and fearless, how can the sword ever retreat? Even if it's a mantis trying to stop a chariot, even if it means mutual destruction, as long as the sword is in its master's hand, its
soul will always be loyal and fearless, daring to fight to the death. That resounding cry, 'Though there be thousands, I will go!
' is truly a golden rule for survival in chaotic times."
Jin Yue raised her cup and stood up, smiling beautifully, "I imagine the plum blossoms in Dingzhou are in full bloom now. If
we could pick a branch and bring it with us, it would be a stunning sight."
Zhou Ning followed with a smile, "Sister Jin Yue, if you like plum blossoms, we can plant
more when we return to Dingzhou."
Jin Yue turned to look at him and said, "Okay, we'll plant more when we get back to Dingzhou." "Plant some."
Nangong Xian'er stood up and called out sweetly, "Everyone, let's go back to the boat and have something to eat. The food should be ready."
Xuan Yuanwen smiled faintly and said, "I can smell it too. Please, everyone."
The boat was rocking, and no one had much of an appetite. They simply drank some rice soup, vegetables, and a bowl of light tea
to get by. On the contrary, few people touched the abundant meat dishes. After the meal, many people took turns going to chat with Murong Ji.
The monk Wuxiang liked quiet and stayed at home chanting Buddhist scriptures. Murong Ji was a man of great knowledge and learning. He was proficient in everything from
astronomy to geography, metaphysics, military strategy, physiognomy, divination, and the arts of music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. He was also a monk who had seen through the vanities of the world
. For a while, several people sat in the room chatting with him, and the atmosphere was very pleasant.
The further the boat went, the larger the waves became. As dusk fell, snowflakes drifted down from the sky, and the sea was deserted.
In the freezing cold, only one person stood at the bow. Zhou Ning leaned against the boat and looked up. Jin Yue, dressed in flowing green, held
a sword called "Morning Dew" in her jade-like hand, standing gracefully at the bow, gazing at the distant sea. Large snowflakes fell incessantly, landing on his
clothes. Zhou Ning shook his head and smiled, walking over and saying, "What heavy snow..."
Jin Yue gently tilted her delicate body, her long hair dancing in the wind, her beautiful face saying, "Actually, I don't understand why you
would risk such danger to go to the demon realm."
Zhou Ning stroked the railing and said, "Sister Jin Yue..." "I said I would follow you, and I will."
Her jade-like hand, lightly wrapped in a light blue gauze sleeve, rested on the railing. Her alluring figure, curvaceous and alluring, swayed in the wind, her aura
slightly aloof. "Following Nangong Xian'er might be alright, but she might be better than me."
Zhou Ning couldn't help but laugh. "I trust my judgment; I've chosen Sister Jin Yue."
Jin Yue's gaze fell on his face, and she lightly bit her red lips. "I hope your choice is right, but I ca
n't give you anything right now, unless…"
Zhou Ning glanced at her red lips, his heart fluttering. "Unless… what?"
Jin Yue gave a soft hum, a hint of languor in her voice. "Nothing."
The wind carried the girl's fragrance, and Zhou Ning inhaled it intently, feeling somewhat intoxicated. Looking back at the bow of the boat, he saw only
one person beside him. He couldn't help but reach for her gauze sleeve, grasping her snow-white, smooth hand. Jin Yue calmly
withdrew her hand, saying, "What are you thinking about?"
Zhou Ning's mouth went dry, and his eyes immediately fell on the two full, firm breasts beneath her white strapless bra. Her slender figure
was already alluring, but her nature was always aloof. At this moment, the girl's alluring body, combined with her unapproachable aloofness
, made him forget his true nature. Hearing this, she coldly snorted, "How annoying..."
Her face flushed. In the end, she didn't say it aloud. Zhou Ning blurted out, "I'll go to your...room tonight."
Jin Yue's pretty face was frosty, and she trembled as she said, "You...!"
She snorted coldly and turned to leave...
In the night, the large ship sailed on the sea, cutting through the wind and waves. Snow mixed with the cold wind blew all over the place.
People are most prone to drowsiness when the sea is rough. In the vast deep sea, the waves surged and the snowflakes fluttered. Some people went to sleep early, while others
had not yet fallen asleep. Her room was quiet. In the dead of night, there were two soft knocks on the door,
followed by a creak as the door opened. It turned out that the door had not been closed and had been pushed open by the person who came in.
Zhou Ning entered the room and closed the door behind him. The room was dimly lit by candlelight. Jin Yue, dressed in a light blue robe
, sat gracefully on the bed, her demeanor cool and aloof. Zhou Ning blew out the candle, plunging the room into darkness.
He couldn't help but call out, "Sister Jin Yue!"
Jin Yue replied coldly from the shadows, "What are you doing here?"
Hearing her voice, Zhou Ning sensed a girlish charm beneath its cool tone, an allure heightened by the darkness. The darkness also fueled
his unease, and he almost impatiently reached out. The closer he got, the clearer the faint orchid fragrance became—this
cool, alluring jade... His body was right beside him; with a touch, he found a pair of smooth, jade-like hands resting on her light blue dress.
He felt the hands tremble slightly, making his mouth go dry. Just as he was about to push her down, he
heard Jin Yue say coldly, "Brother, what kind of person do you take me for?"
The infatuated Zhou Ning felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over him, and he jolted awake. Jin Yue scoffed, "I'm
scared to sleep alone. You can sleep on the floor."
With that, Jin Yue tossed aside the blankets and turned to sleep on her side. The two remained silent, both feeling deeply ashamed.
The further the ship sailed, the larger the waves became. The crew drifted in and out of sleep until late at night, all experiencing chaotic dreams
. The eerie storm outside the ship subsided, replaced by a series of rapid, thumping sounds from the hull. These were all
skilled and capable individuals, and almost all of them awoke simultaneously. The well-trained and specially
selected sailors remained steadfast in their posts amidst the commotion. When everyone on board was awake and reached the bow, they saw
a vast, calm sea, shrouded in darkness. Three miles away, a small island floated on the surface,
bathed in the glow of the rising sun, its rays illuminating the world like a radiant dawn,
beckoning them to explore further.
The myriad rays of light cast a deathly pale glow on everyone on board. The sailors, terrified at the sight,
exclaimed, "It truly is a Heaven-Swallowing Sea Fish! Is this our destined calamity...?"
The monk Wuxiang chanted a Buddhist prayer, "May Buddha have mercy."
Jin Yue, decisive as always, immediately ordered the naval forces to prepare for battle. Dozens of cannons roared as they adjusted their muzzles, the flag bearers
gave continuous commands, the musketeers stood ready, and the crossbowmen were on high alert.
The Heaven-Swallowing Sea Fish was a force defying the heavens, and no one dared to face it directly. Jin Yue, wielding her Morning Dew Sword, calmly directed the ship
to avoid the fish, sailing swiftly. However, as the ship rapidly circled around, the distant island, bathed in even brighter light, steadily
caught up, eliciting gasps of alarm from the civilian sailors.
The small island floating behind the large ship followed at a leisurely pace. The sunset illuminated the ship brightly, but
a gust of cold sea wind blew in from behind, carrying a nauseating stench. Xuan Yuanwen, toying with
the powerful bow in his hand, shook his head and chuckled, "Brother Zhou, do you know the joy of hunting?"
Zhou Ning turned his back and coldly snorted, "When victory is assured, watching your prey desperately flee,
scattering like headless flies—that's the kind of game-like hunt that hunters, who hold the power of life and death, love to play, enjoying the chase."
"The thrill of toying with prey."
Xuan Yuanwen took out an arrow and hung it on the bowstring, saying, "That's not enough. A good hunter is one who can lure his prey into a trap
. But no matter how powerful this Devouring Sea Fish is, it's just an uncivilized sea monster."
Zhou Ning really had no mood to talk about this. A gust of fishy wind blew in from behind, and the island, bathed in
rosy light, changed colors on its own. In the midst of the golden light, the rising sun disappeared from the island, and in the blink of an eye, the island was indeed piled with gold and
jewels, glittering and illuminating half the sky.
Behind the Wuxiang monk, two monk soldiers holding iron rods closed their eyes and chanted scriptures with utmost piety. Unexpectedly, the colors of the island behind them
changed, transforming into a dignified golden Buddha, draped in a cassock, chanting countless Buddhist sounds. However,
the wind from the waves was even more fishy and foul. Some timid sailors were so frightened by this scene that they cried out for their parents. The Wuxiang monk coldly said:
"Ignorant beast! Even with your myriad transformations and worldly experience, you cannot learn even a fraction of the true essence of Buddhism!"
The sailor was terrified, and the ship sped off, pursued relentlessly by the radiant light that transformed into the rising
sun, mountains of gold and silver. The gods and Buddhas in heaven were of no use; in another transformation, it became a celestial palace,
filled with countless pavilions and towers, auspicious omens everywhere, a row of cranes frolicking on colorful clouds, numerous divine mountains floating, and
within the celestial palace, a woman of pristine purity. A stunningly beautiful fairy in white robes leaned against a jade railing, seemingly about to ride the wind
away. A commotion erupted as the naval officers and soldiers shouted, "It's Her Highness the Princess! It's Her Highness the Princess!"
Murong Ji slowly rose and said, "It seems your Princess Mingxue must have been to the Demon Realm."
The white-robed fairy in the celestial palace was so beautiful that it captivated everyone.
Zhou Ning and Xuan Yuanwen couldn't help but stare, muttering to themselves: "Truly
worthy of being called the most beautiful woman in the world..."
The monk Wuxiang frowned and said, "This Devouring Sea Fish is no ordinary creature; it has become a demon. The desires,
greed, lust, and jewels of all living beings can be conjured by this demon at its sight. Such a monster is terrifying."
Murong Ji, holding his whisk, said, "In my ten years of monastic life, I have never encountered such a bizarre and dangerous event."
Seeing the large ship still speeding away, the Devouring Sea Fish, enraged, let out
a sharp, piercing cry. The roar of the giant ship shook the heavens and earth, piercing the ears.
A gust of wind, carrying a fishy stench, swept in, and the celestial palace behind it vanished like a bubble. The sea was suddenly filled with towering waves. The giant sea fish behind the ship
roared and raged hysterically in the water. Tentacle-like suckers shot into the sky and danced wildly as they emerged from the sea. The island-like body
floated out, its countless tentacles churning and churning the water. It slowly opened its two large, green eyes,
filled with ferocious greed, and charged forward fiercely.
The timid screamed "Mommy!" and collapsed onto the ship, their cries of agony filling the air. Even
the bravest among them trembled. Xuan Yuanwen, bow and arrow in hand, shouted, "What storms
haven't we Kangguo people weathered? Are you just going to sit here and wait to die? Anyone who doesn't get up will be thrown into the sea to feed the fish!"
Hearing that anyone who didn't get up would be thrown into the sea, the men were even more terrified. The naval officers and soldiers, being bolder, slapped
the limp men across the face. The slaps snapped them out of their daze, and they ran back to their posts, yelling as they steered the ship. Jin Yue
gripped the Morning Dew Sword tightly and ordered the stern to load cannons and fire. Behind them, Xuan Yuanwen personally directed the crossbowmen to aim and fire
. The sailors steered the ship at breakneck speed. As everyone rushed to the rear, the Devouring Sea Fish, enraged and filled with
resentment, its fierce, treacherous, and greedy eyes gleaming, relentlessly pursued them despite the flying cannonballs.
Zhou Ning couldn't help but exclaim, "How could such a terrifying creature exist between heaven and earth? Who could have created it
!"
Jin Yue remained calm and asked, "Why were the people of the Demon Realm able to cross the Demon Sea safely?"
Xuan Yuanwen coughed and said, "Perhaps... they were lucky and didn't run into the Devouring Sea Fish."
Jin Yue asked, "Then how did Princess Mingxue and Fei Shangxue get to the Demon Realm?"
Xuan Yuanwen said, "They were cultivators seeking immortality, so crossing the Demon Sea shouldn't have been difficult for them."
Murong Ji shook his head and said, "The existence of the Devouring Sea Fish isn't entirely without reason. In a sense, its existence
separates the Demon Realm from ours. But everything is preordained, and the will of Heaven cannot be defied...
"
The Devouring Sea Fish continued to dance its tentacles, relentlessly pursuing them. Jin Yue, who was naturally aloof, was being chased...
In desperation, Yu Shou suddenly raised the Morning Dew Sword and said, "Whatever, fate has its own arrangements, and everything is beyond
human control."
As she spoke, the distance between them grew ever closer. Unable to move, they had no choice but to shift the ship's position. Twenty cannons were aimed at
the head of the Devouring Sea Fish. At a command, the twenty deafening cannons simultaneously unleashed scorching flames. The Devouring
Sea Fish screamed in terror. Ten giant crossbows fired arrows as long as spears. In the blink of an eye, the fish, wounded,
sank into the water. Jin Yue urgently ordered the sailors to turn and flee. The Devouring Sea Fish disappeared beneath the surface, but the instinctive
sense of danger grew stronger…
The large ship sped along, the naval officers and soldiers drawing their swords and standing ready, everyone armed. The gunners and archers
looked around anxiously, an unprecedented fear gripping them. The sailors steered the ship at breakneck speed, but unexpectedly, the ship
crashed into something with a loud bang. Someone blurted out, "Did it run aground?"
No one answered. The ship was immobilized. Sticky, tentacle-like tendrils slung over it like vines,
completely entangling the vessel. The crowd paled; some cried out, "We're done for
!" Some were scared to death on the spot. Jin Yuecang drew her Morning Dew Sword with a clang and shouted, "Slash!"
The crowd snapped out of their daze and roared, raising their swords to strike. Some were swept away by the tentacles, others had their tentacles
chopped off one by one. The Devouring Sea Fish howled in pain, desperately dragging the ship into the water. Tentacles lashed back
and forth. As the ship sank, entangled by the fish, the Wuxiang Monk suddenly opened his eyes. With a flick of his wrist,
a dozen or so Buddhist beads shot into the fish's tentacles, shattering five or six thick, python-like tendrils. The fish howled in agony
, its enormous head slamming against the ship. Two monks raised one hand and chanted Buddhist mantras, "Namo Amitabha
Buddha."
Their faces flushed red, and with a roar, they swung their iron clubs at the tentacles of the sea fish. The tentacles fell to the ground.
Xuanyuan Wen, wielding a steel sword, paced back and forth on the ship, slashing at any tentacles he encountered. In the blink of
an eye, the ship was riddled with holes and on the verge of death. The sea fish, also gushing blood, rammed against the ship's hull,
causing it to tilt and sway. As soon as the ship broke free of the tentacles, it fled, crashing violently underwater. Musketeers and archers
fired at any exposed sea fish. A fierce battle raged, the fighting intense and evenly matched, until a distant sunrise illuminated half
the sky, tearing through the night and turning everything white. The sea fish, exposed to the sunlight, hissed and emitted
blue smoke as it rapidly sank back into the sea.
Everyone looked at each other as if in a dream. The large ship was battered beyond recognition by the sea creatures, riddled with
wounds. Fortunately, the ship was sturdy enough, and Xu Liang had put in a lot of effort, so it hadn't sunk.
After dawn, Murong Ji said, "This monster is extremely cunning; it will definitely come back."
The monk Wuxiang said, "Buddha is merciful; good will always prevail over evil. Let's hope we can cross the first
layer of the Demon Sea before nightfall."
Jin Yue ordered the ship to be repaired. Most of the crew were exhausted, so they sat at the bow to rest for a while before returning
to their quarters. The sailors were rotated, and the ship was steered at high speed, escaping the first layer of the Demon Sea.
Once people are tired, they can fall asleep instantly. The Devouring Sea Fish, which can only remain submerged in the depths of the sea during the day,
allows for a brief respite. They slept until midday, and then everyone woke up. Nangong Xian'er was in the dining
room, sipping rice porridge. When Zhou Ning and Jin Yue entered, the table was laden with abundant food and wine
. Nangong Xian'er said gently, "I still think rice porridge is the best, with vegetables and steamed buns."
Jin Yue poured herself a glass of wine and slowly ate slices of beef. Zhou Ning also poured himself some wine and started eating meat; after all,
he was exhausted from the previous night's activities. He asked, "Did you sleep well last night, Miss Xian'er?"
Nangong Xian'er smiled gently and said, "I slept..." "It's great! I had a few extra drinks and slept soundly until dawn."
Zhou Ning nodded and said, "What good fortune..."
Jin Yue drank another cup of wine to ease her troubled mood. Zhou Ning picked up the wine pot and poured wine for all three of them, and they all
started drinking. They chatted while drinking, never mentioning the swallowing sea fish from the previous night. Before long, they were
laughing and talking. Nangong Xian'er liked to drink rice porridge and had a rather light diet, seemingly not liking meat.
Even when faced with delicious food, she only ate some vegetables. Zhou Ning brought her a plate of steamed pork and said, "Miss Xian'er, try this."
Nangong Xian'er picked up a piece, ate it, and praised, "It's delicious! It's smooth, tender, and very soft..."
"..."
Jin Yue also picked up a slice and said, "Ran'er usually likes this at home."
Nangong Xian'er said, "It's a rare treat to have it occasionally."
She then drank another cup of wine, and the three of them finished the wine in the pot in no time. They then ordered someone to bring over
a jar of fine wine, raised their cups, and drank heartily, saying, "This is truly fine wine, bottoms up!"
The three of them raised their cups and drank it all in one gulp. Jin Yue covered her mouth with her jade hand and chuckled, "This wine was secretly brought onto the ship.
Lord Xu doesn't allow drinking; this ship is Lord Xu's precious treasure, he's afraid we'll get into trouble if we drink."
Nangong Xian'er chuckled and said sweetly, "Jin Yue, you're so naughty!"
Jin Yue poured wine and said, "A long journey without wine would be so lonely!"
Nangong Xian'er drank a cup with her and asked, "Speaking of which, Miss Jin Yue, you've been to the grasslands, what are your
thoughts on the grassland scenery?"
Jin Yue rested her face on her hand and said, "There are a lot of blue skies and white clouds, the grass is very green, and the water is very clear...
" Then, the sound of shepherd's flutes drifted on the air, and thousands of horses galloped, stretching as far as the eye could see. When they got tired, they would stop to rest
, and then continue on their way…”
Nangong Xian’er cupped her hands to her heart and said, “It sounds really wonderful…”
Jin Yue said, “Those who haven’t seen the vast grasslands truly don’t know their beauty. Fine horses and good wine—many people
dream of galloping across the grasslands; it’s the most joyful thing in life.”
Nangong Xian’er snapped her fingers and said charmingly, “Our place is quite nice too. Let’s have a musician come and
we can all go to the bow of the boat and play a song, accompanied by a good lyric. It’s rare to have such calm weather, and with a cup of good wine, wow!”
Jin Yue stood up and said with a smile, “Alright, let’s call our friends to come to the bow of the boat to drink and sing!”
The young man did as he was told. A dozen musicians played music, and everyone gathered at the bow of the boat to drink and chat. It was a rare good day,
with the sun shining brightly overhead, a welcome sight. Everyone forgot their worries and raised their cups to drink. Nangong Xian’er and Jin Yue…
A woman played the flute, another the zither, and the men toyed with wine cups, facing the vast sea, singing a frontier song in unison. The song was
both melancholic and majestic. A large ship sailed forward, cutting through the waves, a Kang-character flag fluttering in the wind at its bow. In moments of jubilation, the men and
women sang duets—a rare sight indeed!
Murong Ji, a prince of the Northern Kingdom, who enjoyed all the riches and honors of the world, had never witnessed such an unforgettable gathering. His silver hair
fluttered across his face. Overwhelmed with emotion, she exclaimed, "In this world, only we are truly genuine..."
As the song ended, the aroma of fine wine filled the air. Jin Yue, holding a wine cup, toasted everyone, saying, "May all the people of the world enjoy peace
and tranquility, and may we, ten years from now, also be able to drink such fine wine!"
Everyone rose together, raising their cups and laughing, "Cheers!"
The fear of being enveloped by the Devouring Sea Fish was completely forgotten. A bright sun hung overhead, and the snow in Bizhou
was likely melting. The group chatted at the bow as the large ship sailed forward, cutting through the waves into the deep sea. The Devouring Sea Fish only
dared to appear at night, hiding in the deep sea during the day—everyone knew this perfectly well. Looking up at the sun,
a hint of worry remained.
Sailing on the vast ocean, the large ship was like a leaf in the wind. As the group drank until they were slightly tipsy, they ordered the fine wine to be removed.
While admiring the sea view, they suddenly noticed a stone tablet floating motionless in the distance. The monk
Wuxiang immediately stood up, chanting Buddhist prayers, "Amitabha, we've reached the second level of the Demon Sea."
Jin Yue asked, "Then, have we gotten rid of the Devouring Sea Fish?"
The monk Wuxiang nodded, "You could say so."
Zhou Ning asked curiously, "What is that stone tablet?"
The monk Wuxiang sat cross-legged, closed his eyes to meditate, and said, "That stone tablet was erected by the gods in the Demon Sea, and at its base
is a heart."
Zhou Ning felt a chill and asked, "A heart?"
The monk Wuxiang gently nodded, "During the Liyue Dynasty, there was a prince of the Dragon Palace named Xi, who was inherently cruel..." When his temper was unpredictable
, he would capsize countless ships and recklessly unleash his divine power, summoning devastating floods that swept across the land. After the floods,
countless people drowned, and corpses floated for miles on the water. His actions ultimately angered the gods, who punished him with the most severe punishment.
Zhou Ning listened intently and asked, "And then what happened?"
The monk Wuxiang clasped his hands together and said, "When Prince Xi was executed, the pain he endured was extremely agonizing. His dragon
tendons and bones were pulled out, and he bled to death. After death, his resentment was boundless, and his vengeful spirit transformed into an evil spirit that wreaked havoc at sea.
Even more wicked than before, he became a terrifying, cruel, greedy, and lustful Devouring Sea Fish. The gods, angered by his
sins, personally gouged out the heart of the Devouring Sea Fish and suppressed it under a stone tablet, banishing its heartless body to the demon realm." The sea,
its heart pressed beneath the stone tablet, has suffered the torment of being struck by lightning for generations. The heartless sea fish, left only with numb and inhuman
greed, and the foul-smelling wind, are the rotting wounds from its ripped-out heart.
These words sent chills down the spines of those who heard them. The large ship quickly approached the stone tablet, which was
ancient and simple in style, its age unknown. Beneath the tablet were more than a dozen thick iron chains, bobbing
up and down like pythons in the sea. Upon closer inspection, the tablet was inscribed with ancient characters: "
During the Shence era of the Liyue Dynasty, the sea committed a crime that angered heaven and man. The gods erected this tablet to suppress the sea."
After reading the inscription, the large ship sailed into the second level of the Demon Sea. The initial voyage into the second level of the Demon Sea... As the sun
set, a deathly silence reigned. There were no storms or waves as rumored; instead, the calm was eerily profound.
A cold moon hung in the sky, its pale light spilling across the sea. The ship slowed its pace, and the sailors, having taken turns on duty,
were much more alert. The sea was spotless, the surface perfectly still. Several sailors chatted outside the ship
when suddenly, with a splash, a dragon leaped and thrashed from the water. Just as they were terrified, the monk Wuxiang, observing this
, smiled faintly and said, "No need to panic. The dragon's power has long been stripped away by the gods."
Reassured, two soldier monks stood guard behind, iron clubs in hand. The monk Wuxiang sat cross-legged, silently chanting Buddhist scriptures.
The others seemed to be growing accustomed to the monotonous life on the ship.
Dingzhou City was shrouded in a blanket of white snow. Snowflakes drifted down outside the window, landing on people's shoulders. Ran'er
slept soundly in bed, while Lin Mengxue leaned against the vermilion window, admiring the scenery below. Below stood a man, a
proud figure beneath a plum blossom tree—Qin Chuan.
The snow continued to fall. The door opened softly with a creak, and Qin Chuan's cold face softened slightly as he asked, "Are you
cold?"
Two maids followed behind him, smiling gently. "I'm alright," they replied. "You're the one who should be cold
..."
Qin Chuan reached out and broke off a plum blossom branch. "I have a fan I'd like to ask Madam to inscribe a poem for it."
He took a folding fan from his sleeve, revealing a white background with plum blossoms. As he offered it to her, Lin Mengxue shook
her head, turning her back to him. "The fan is very fine," she said . "There's no need to add anything more."
Qin Chuan closed his fan and leaned against the corridor, saying, "My wife and I are both people of this chaotic era, and we meant no offense
. Your marriage to Dingzhou is a loveless union, which is regrettable."
Lin Mengxue said gently, "I wonder what you regret?"
Qin Chuan looked up at the night sky and said, "Fate is beyond our control; it's all arranged by others."
Lin Mengxue said, "I don't think so. To live a peaceful life is an immense luxury.
What else shouldn't we be satisfied with?" "Is that enough? Your Highness's unwillingness to be ordinary doesn't mean others are the same. Forcing others to
accept it is not something I agree with."
Qin Chuan shook his head and asked, "How is Prince Ran?"
Lin Mengxue replied without hesitation, "It depends on what Your Highness thinks."
Qin Chuan opened his folding fan with a clatter, admiring the snow-covered scenery, and said, "Now I understand
the cruelty of the demon realm, and the contrast with the sentiment of Dingzhou is truly stark."
Lin Mengxue didn't say much, and Qin Chuan leaned against the wall and said, "The Northern Kingdom, which is opposed to Dingzhou, has more of
the spirit of righteousness in chaotic times. Murong Ji's renunciation, Murong Chong's indifference, and Yan Yifan's tranquility—these princes all have their own personal
charm."
Lin Mengxue sat down, her jade hands playing with her hair, and said, "So Your Highness believes that with the demon realm's fierce and
cruel mentality, they can cross the Demon Sea and attack us?"
Qin Chuan walked step by step into the vast snow and said, "Madam is wrong. I have no such intention. Others in the Nine Heavens do have
such thoughts, and it can't be hidden from them."
Lin Mengxue stood up and said, "When Your Highness gave alms to the poor, your eyes were full of kindness. You don't seem like a heartless
person."
Qin Chuan chuckled and said, "Is that so?"
This man was usually so cold, so his sudden smile was quite warm. Lin Mengxue plucked a plum blossom and said, "Of course it is
. I don't believe Your Highness would deliberately put on such an act for a young woman."
Qin Chuan handed her a folding fan and said, "Of course not. You can have this fan."
Lin Mengxue didn't refuse and took the fan, saying, "Perhaps Your Highness doesn't like women."
Qin Chuan nodded seriously and said, "I already have a beloved wife at home. Making a few friends is not a problem. Friendships between men and women,
if they are just casual acquaintances with mutual respect, are fine. " "Nothing's wrong with that."
Lin Mengxue said softly, "Just don't be as scheming as Prince Shifan."
Qin Chuan said, "My brother here is different from me. He's frighteningly scheming. It's not
good to talk about people behind their backs, but it's a reminder to you, Madam."
Lin Mengxue said, "Thank you."
Qin Chuan wrinkled his nose and complained, "Hey, it's really cold here when it snows."
Lin Mengxue smiled and said, "Snow is so nice. My name has 'snow' in it. But it's getting late. You should go back
. I don't want to be with a man other than my husband in the middle of the night."
Qin Chuan clasped his hands and said, "Then Madam, please go to sleep early."
Lin Mengxue nodded and said, "Okay."
The maids were all from the princess's residence. The reason they were kept by her side was simply to avoid gossip.
The second level of the Demon Sea was calm and peaceful. A bright moon even shone on the dark water. The water rippled gently beneath the boat.
In the distance, the blue sky and night were dotted with stars, like a dream.
In the darkness of the night, a stunningly beautiful young woman, dressed in snow-white robes and
with a slender figure, appeared at the bow of the boat like a fairy in the gentle breeze. As soon as she stepped off the boat, a refreshing breeze blew in her face, making her feel lighter
.
This young woman was Nangong Xian'er. She had woken up in the middle of the night, not feeling sleepy, and had come to the bow alone
to admire the scenery. Murong Ji was also meditating at the bow, holding a whisk in his arms. His simple and unassuming nature, combined with the
cool moonlight shining upon him, gave him an even more ethereal and otherworldly air.
She gracefully moved to Murong Ji's side, her beautiful face captivating, and said, "Greetings, Your Highness."
Murong Ji picked up his whisk and placed it on his lap, shaking his head and smiling, "I've been a monk for so many years now, from now on,
please address me as Daoist Master."
Nangong Xian'er nodded and said, "Then, Daoist Master, is something on your mind?"
Murong Ji pondered for a moment and said, "I miss my family far away."
Nangong Xian'er gently gathered her clothes with her jade-like hand and said in a gentle tone, "You've been away from Taizhou for ten years. Although you've become a monk..."
But missing family is only natural.
Murong Ji said, "Knowing that family is doing well makes me happy too."
Nangong Xian'er said gently, her beautiful eyes filled with tenderness, "Daoist Master, please don't overthink it. Look how beautiful the night is tonight!" As
she spoke, she gently gathered her hair at her chest with her jade-like hand and softly recited: "The autumn wind is bleak and the weather is cold, the grass and trees wither and the dew turns to frost, the swallows depart and
the geese fly south.
Thinking of you, my love, I am heartbroken. I yearn to return to my hometown. Why must I linger in a foreign land?
I, your humble servant, am all alone in my empty room. When sorrow comes, I think of you but dare not..." Forgetting, tears unknowingly soaked my clothes.
I took up my zither and played a clear, mournful tune, a short song that could not last long.
The bright moon shone on my bed, the Milky Way flowed westward, the night was not yet over.
The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl gazed at each other from afar, what wrong have you done to be separated by the Milky Way?
Parting is so easy, meeting is so hard, the mountains and rivers are far and the road is long.
I am filled with sorrow for you, but dare not speak, I sent a letter on the floating clouds, but it will never return.
Tears streamed down my face, ruining my appearance, who can bear this sorrow without sighing?
I lay on my pillow, unable to sleep, I put on my clothes and went out, walking east and west.
I unfolded a poem and sang a clear song to comfort myself, joy turned to sorrow, tearing at my heart.
The mournful wind was sharp and the autumn air was cold, the silk curtains slowly... " I have passed through Qin Xuan.
I look up at the stars and moon, gazing at the clouds. Birds sing at dawn, their voices pitiful.
Lingering, I cannot bear to leave."
She finished reciting this poem, "The Song of the Swallow," which sounded as if one were slightly intoxicated. Murong Ji picked up his whisk and pondered, "Ancient poems
are thought-provoking. Such is the nature of poetry, yet it alone condemned Zhen Luo to death."
Nangong Xian'er said, "Among all the most beautiful women throughout history, only Zhen Luo left behind a 'Rhapsody on the Goddess of the Luo River
.'"
Murong Ji stood up, whisk in hand, and admired the sea under the moonlight. Nangong Xian'er suddenly heard several splashes and
saw water spraying in the distance. Curious, she asked, "What are those people doing?"
Murong Ji looked at the fishing boats on the sea and said, "They're pearl diggers sent by the government."
Nangong Xian'er frowned and said, "Xian'er has heard that pearl digging is extremely dangerous; many drown.
The pearls they painstakingly collect must be offered to the government."
Murong Ji said, "There are countless impoverished families who are unseen. Their way of survival, which we often find difficult to understand,
is their only source of food and drink. Many people do it, continuing their simple, ordinary lives generation after generation
. For example, the fishermen who jump into the sea to collect pearls—if they don't encounter sharks, they're fine with strong winds, but if they do,
escape is difficult. Daring to come to the second level of this Demon Sea is probably due to generations of accumulated experience."
Nangong Xian'er looked intently at him, then suddenly exclaimed, "Such a small child, why did he come along?"
Murong Ji said calmly, "He's only ten years old..." "You're young. This industry has been passed down from generation to generation.
Learning from your elders early on is beneficial for your future. Besides, who would want to come here if they weren't forced by circumstances
?"
Her fair hand unconsciously touched her clothes, feeling their silky smoothness, fragrance, and softness. Her gaze then fell on
the pearl divers in the distance, their bare chests clad in coarse cloth, their exposed skin tanned like coal.
A pang of pity struck her. "I've lived in the capital of Liang for many years and have never seen such a sight..."
Murong Ji, carrying his whisk, came to the bow of the ship and looked out to sea. Amidst the splashing water, the pearl divers moved
nimbly, constantly diving into the sea. Nangong Xian'er followed him to the bow and called out sweetly, "Little brother, what's your
name?"
The boy poked his head out and smiled happily, "Ahu."
Nangong Xian'er smiled beautifully, "That's a lovely name. You look as fierce as a little tiger.
You'll definitely amount to something when you grow up."
Murong Ji said calmly, "The Dragon Palace's ship is coming."
Nangong Xian'er looked up and indeed saw a large ship floating in front of her, its silhouette faintly visible. After crossing the pearl-diving
waters, the Dragon Palace's ship stopped on the sea. Standing at the bow was a middle-aged man dressed in brocade clothes,
about forty years old. He had a ruddy face, a fat head and big ears, and a pair of sly eyes that gleamed with a cunning light. He had two small mustaches on the corners of his mouth,
making him look rather lewd and comical. His face was so fat that he didn't even have a chin. This was none other than the Turtle Prime Minister.
Upon seeing Murong Ji from a distance, the Turtle Prime Minister eagerly clasped his hands and smiled, "Your Highness, it is an honor to have you here . I am deeply ashamed of my lack of hospitality.
" Murong
Ji shook his head and smiled, his expression calm and composed, "Passing by the Dragon Palace, I have not had the chance to pay my respects. I am truly ashamed." The Turtle Prime Minister shook his head vigorously, "Your Highness is too kind. However, my young master is also on board. Would Your Highness like to see him?" Murong Ji raised his hand, "It is the middle of the night. I will not disturb your young master any longer. Perhaps we can meet again sometime." The Turtle Prime Minister smiled and nodded, "Miss Nangong's name is renowned throughout the Dragon Palace." Nangong Xian'er, with her hands behind her back, smiled sweetly, "I do not wish to use my common name, Prime Minister, for I am not accustomed to such things." The two large ships passed each other at a distance, maintaining their distance, until they were quite far apart before Murong Ji spoke: "The Dragon Palace obeys the Nine Heavens and has eyes and ears all over the world; we must be wary of them." Nangong Xian'er scolded, "Xian'er is just a lowly woman, yet that person was recognized at a glance, even though we've never met before. The Dragon Palace's actions are so blatant; they're only relying on the Nine Heavens." Murong Ji sighed with some worry, "The Nine Heavens of the Demon Realm are truly a terrifying existence..." Nangong Xian'er asked curiously, "Having roamed the world all your life, would you still be so wary of the Nine Heavens?" Murong Ji slowly sat down and said, "Otherwise, why would the Northern Kingdom and the Kang Kingdom, these mortal enemies, form an alliance, allowing Chahetai to rise to power?" Nangong Xian'er said, "Let's not talk about them. I'm going back to sleep now. Your Highness should also go to sleep early." Dawn broke in Taizhou, and the morning air was filled with... A chill hung in the air, carrying the faint fragrance of snowflakes. Snowflakes drifted down, and in the lakeside pavilion, Xiao Xuan, chopsticks in her mouth, peered left and right at the steaming food on the stone table, her big eyes darting around. She craned her head curiously and asked, "Mother, why are we eating so well today?" Zhu Yao served her a bowl of rice porridge, saying gently, "When have I ever let you eat anything bad?" Yan Yifan patted Xiao Xuan's head and said, "Your mother is right, eat up." Xiao Xuan giggled, "The atmosphere is different today, I want to drink!" Yun Xuan hurriedly said solicitously, "Good sister, let me get you some!" Yan Yifan looked at Mu Lejing curiously and asked, "Isn't Wen Xuan eating?" Mu Lejing said softly, "She studied late yesterday and couldn't get out of bed. Husband, don't worry, I've already sent someone... " "I brought her food." Xiao Xuan gulped down a large cup of sweet wine and said with a grin, "Someone will be so ashamed after hearing this!" Yun Xuan was too angry to talk to her. Zhu Yao, who was usually gentle, couldn't help but scold her , "You're so young, how can you like to make fun of others like this? Who taught you that?" Xiao Xuan's eyes reddened, and she said aggrievedly, "You're being unfair and bullying me!" Mu Lejing quickly hugged her and said, "It's not that I'm being unfair, but do you think it's okay for you to make fun of others like this ?" Xiao Xuan said angrily, "Who told him to be so bad and not let anyone talk about it!" Zhu Yao frowned and said, "What did your brother do wrong? Is he not good to you?" Xiao Xuan pouted and said, "He didn't do anything wrong. The teacher punished him." "What are you doing !" Yan Yifan said helplessly, "Why are you so stubborn, girl? A family shouldn't tease each other like this, but rather care for and understand one another. Your brother didn't do anything wrong, otherwise why wouldn't your parents care? You don't need to worry ." Yunxuan looked at Mu Lejing and said, "Mom, I want some soy milk." Mu Lejing served him a bowl and said with concern, "It's a little hot, drink slowly." Yunxuan took a sip and said, "The food today does seem better than usual!" Yan Yifan couldn't help but laugh, "You two siblings make it sound like your parents aren't letting you eat well. Isn't today's food the same as usual?" As he spoke, he remembered Wenxuan and ordered someone to send her some more food, then looked at Mu Lejing and said: "It's good that children like to read, but reading until midnight is not advisable. Sleeping late and not being able to get up to eat is not good for their health. Jing'er might as well talk to her. Wenxuan is obedient and listens to everything you say." Zhu Yao peeled an egg and handed it to Xiaoxuan, saying, "Here, have an egg." Xiaoxuan took the egg and ate it slowly. After a while, she asked, "Whose is that empty stool?" Yunxuan said, "It must be reserved for the fairy!" Xiaoxuan raised her head, her face full of resentment, and said, "Dad, you're so fickle..." Zhu Yao chuckled and said, "Don't talk nonsense. Hurry up and eat yours. Your Qingniang and your dad are a couple who have been through thick and thin together. Remember to call her 'Mom,' not 'fairy,' understand?" Yan Yifan peeled an egg and said, "Your mother is right. You can't call her 'fairy,' you have to call her 'Mom,' understand?" Yunxuan and Xiaoxuan nodded and said, "We understand!" Yan Yifan handed the peeled egg to Mu Lejing and said, "Your Jingniang told Yaoniang that tonight..." "Is it snowing? We'll have hot pot here as a family tonight, so you two shouldn't run around." The two children nodded again, and Zhu Yao said with a smile, "Stop nodding, you'll be nodding like a rattle drum..." Not long after, A-Juan also came over. As soon as A-Juan arrived, Xiao Xuan stood up happily and said, "Aunt Juan, sit next to me!" Yun Xuan said anxiously, "Aunt Juan, come sit next to me!" A-Juan chuckled and said, "You two children aren't allowed to make a fuss, understand?" Zhu Yao chided, "As long as they're together and don't fight, it's fine." Mu Lejing served A-Juan a bowl of rice soup, and Zhu Yao asked, "Did Qingqing sleep well last night?" A-Juan smiled and said, "The princess slept very well in the Snow Pavilion. She's used to being quiet and doesn't like crowded places ." Xiao Xuan gulped down a mouthful of rice soup and said, "I'll go play at Qingniang's place tonight." Zhu Yao scolded, "Children aren't allowed to be naughty. We're having hot pot tonight, and your Qingniang will definitely come."

Yan Yifan asked with concern, "In a little while, I'll prepare some wine and dishes and go see Qingqing."
Zhu Yao said, "Hmm, that's a good idea."
Yunxuan handed a steamed bun to Ajuan and asked, "Aunt Juan, is Qingniang a princess?"
Ajuan nodded and said, "Yes, she's a princess of Liang Kingdom."
Xiaoxuan gulped down her rice porridge and said, "Liang Kingdom is almost gone!"
Mu Lejing patted her head and said, "Little girl, you can't even eat properly..."
After a while, the maids had prepared the wine and dishes, and he carried the food box to Xuege Pavilion. Xuege Pavilion, like Ruolan Pavilion,
was a quiet and elegant place. Walking on the cobblestone path, the plum blossoms by the roadside were in full bloom, exuding a touch of coldness
and a touch of stunning beauty.
Amidst the picturesque scenery and the beautiful swirling snowflakes, carrying a food box, Yan Yifan climbed the snow-covered pavilion. The moment he pushed open the door,
a delicate fragrance wafted towards him. Deep within the bright yellow gauze curtains, a stunningly beautiful woman's figure emerged. Parting the layers of veils, he
saw a breathtakingly beautiful fairy in white robes, leaning against the window.
Yan Yifan gazed at her from a few steps away. Outside, a vast expanse of white snow stretched out.
As her dress and hair danced lightly in the wind, a captivating fragrance emanated from her, intoxicating him. Not only did she exude an
aura of pure and ethereal beauty, but her snow-white dress, noble and moving, perfectly accentuated her alluring curves,
adding a touch of fairy-like seduction to her otherwise aloof and holy aura, making her seem like a fairy descended from the heavens to the mortal realm.
At the same moment, she turned around and looked back. Their eyes met, and everything seemed like it was just yesterday. Yan
Yifan stood there, stunned. For ten years, she had been nowhere to be found, and everything had become a mirage. But now, she had returned, and
the person before him was real...
The sound of a flute floated softly on the sea. The Kang character flag slowly rose. Jin Yue sat gracefully, her red lips lightly touching her jade flute
, playing melodies. Nangong Xian'er held a zither, facing the setting sun. The setting sun was like blood, spreading a crimson line across the sea,
the water dazzling. Murong Ji picked up his brush and painted. In the painting, the green mountains stood tall, the setting sun like blood, and a ship
sailed against the wind at the foot of the green mountains on the vast sea. The Kang character on the ship was particularly bright. With a splash, more than a dozen Kang character flags were raised high, fluttering wildly in
the wind. The large ship docked against the mountain.
The long procession traversed the desolate ancient land, the landscape deserted and dilapidated. Xuan Yuanwen, holding a map,
glanced back and said, "We're currently in Jia Prefecture of the Mountain Kingdom."
Jin Yue asked, "Approximately how far is the nearest town?"
Xuan Yuanwen frowned, looking at the map for a few moments before replying, "There's a small town about fifty li ahead. This entire area, spanning a thousand li,
is Jia Prefecture's territory. Further ahead lies the seventh heaven of the Demon Realm, Jiangdu City of the Water Kingdom. Our boat should arrive there before
us."
Jin Yue said, "The Master specifically instructed us to thoroughly explore the Demon Realm's territory, and everyone agrees. In
that case, let's go."
Xuan Yuanwen looked at Murong Ji and asked, "Daoist Master, where do you think we should stay tonight?"
Murong Ji shook his head and smiled, "Miss Jin Yue, please decide."
Xuanyuan Wen stuffed the map back into his pocket. Jin Yue gazed into the distance and said, "We have two hundred and five people. We
'll divide into four teams of fifty each: Zhou Ning's team, Miss Xian'er's team, Xuanyuan Wen's team, and my team. Each team
will support each other. The journey is long, so we'll find a place to rest after dark. Let's set off!"
Everyone agreed. The two hundred Dingzhou soldiers advanced in four teams. The setting sun, like blood, spread across the white earth. The snow hadn't
melted, and the biting cold was constant. Jin Yue and Murong Ji walked side by side. Jin Yue said, "The Nine Heavens possess
the best troops in the world. Are they really no match for the Ten Thousand Mountains?"
Murong Ji coughed lightly, covering his mouth with his hand, and said, "Let alone the Nine Heavens, even the Misty River Navy of Jiangdu City in the Water Kingdom
is enough to give us a headache."
Jin Yue added: "The Wujiang Navy has indeed greatly enhanced the prestige of the Nine Heavens. If we were to compare it,
how do the Changjun and Taizhou navies compare?"
Murong Ji said. "The Taizhou Navy consists of three battalions, totaling 60,000 men, with 200 warships and
21 powerful aerial warships, each with at least 1,000 men, totaling just over 80,000. Your country's Changjun
Navy is roughly equivalent to Taizhou. As for the Wujiang Navy, its elite forces are exceptional, numbering 150,000,
which is equivalent to the combined forces of Taizhou and Changjun, not even counting their powerful aerial warships."
Jin Yue said, "It's said that once the Wujiang Navy's powerful aerial warships are deployed, they can blot out the sky
. "
Murong Ji shook his head slightly and smiled, "Don't be too pessimistic. As long as we defeat the Wujiang ..." "Jiang Shuishi, everything is
fine, isn't it?"
Jin Yue nodded and said, "What the Daoist said is consistent with my master's opinion."
Murong Ji looked into the distance and said, "Fighting against the Demon Realm is not like the struggle between Kang Kingdom and the Northern Kingdom. Not to mention that
the people of the Demon Realm are bloodthirsty and cruel, there is also a barbarian cavalry of 100,000 who are very difficult to deal with. This time, the four kingdoms are allied. The Wujiang
Navy will be dealt with by Taizhou, Kang Kingdom, and the Northern Kingdom. The barbarian cavalry of the Nine Heavens will naturally be dealt with by Chahetai."
Xuan Yuanwen looked at the map again. It clearly marked the entire territory of the Demon Realm. The first layer is the Yuanhuang of the Slave Kingdom, the second layer is
the Gui Nong of the Swamp Kingdom, the third layer is the Xuanfu of the Demon Kingdom, the fourth layer is the Fuchuan of the Shang Kingdom, the fifth layer is the Duyue of the Sea Kingdom, the sixth layer is the Jiazhou of the Mountain Kingdom, the seventh layer is the Jiangdu of the Water Kingdom, the eighth layer
is the Longcheng of the Demon Realm, and the ninth layer is the Shenzhou of the Holy Kingdom.
Looking at the map, the four kingdoms of Nu Kingdom, Shan Kingdom, Mo Kingdom, and Hun Kingdom
are all mountainous, forested, swampy, and desolate regions, considered barren and impoverished
. They are home to various tribes who live a primitive, uncivilized life, and are thus regarded as savage lands.
On the other side, the five kingdoms of Shang Kingdom, Hai Kingdom, Shui Kingdom, Yao Realm, and Shengfu Shenzhou
occupy magnificent territories and prosperous cities. Their inhabitants are wealthy and arrogant, often regarding the perpetually war-
torn four kingdoms as barbaric.
Longcheng is the center of the Yao Realm, while Shengfu Shenzhou is revered as a divine city by the people of the Yao Realm, and is the residence of the Holy Maidens throughout history
.
This vast Yao Realm is as if cleaved in two, one half being the barren and impoverished four kingdoms, and the other
half the magnificent and beautiful Longcheng and Shenzhou kingdoms.
The scenery was beautiful when we first disembarked
. After crossing a large mountain, we saw a desolate, uninhabited landscape below, devoid of even a bird. The vast expanse of white snow was a blur, and the sun was about to set. As we descended the mountain...
As dusk settled, a winding road descended into the distance, the Kang banner fluttering in the wind. Xuanyuan Wen took out
his wine flask, took a sip, and said, "In the Nine Heavens, the people of Jia Prefecture in the Zhongshan Kingdom are known for their fierce and warlike nature, producing many powerful armies and frequent conflicts
. Longcheng also highly values Jia Prefecture. Two large camps are permanently stationed there, with an army of 140,000. Once the Ten Thousand Mountains
raise their banner, the elite troops of Jia Prefecture will be the first to face a formidable enemy."
Murong Ji added, "Jia Prefecture is a mountainous country, vast and sparsely populated, with five prefectures distributed across its territory. Chang Prefecture and
Qing Prefecture are particularly known for their bravery and cruelty, and the lords of both prefectures are ambitious and ruthless individuals."
Xuanyuan Wen nodded in agreement, saying, "You are right." "Indeed, the Mu family of Changfu and the Wei family of Qingfu are the most powerful
vassal states in Jia Prefecture. These two vassal states have made countless contributions to the defense of Jia Prefecture for the Nine Heavens. When the Master was discussing matters with the generals in Ding Prefecture, he
also highly valued the existence of Jia Prefecture. Moreover, the raising of the banner in the Ten Thousand Mountains is imminent."
Jin Yue raised her jade hand and looked into the distance, saying, "The Ten Thousand Mountains are the lair of demons and monsters. There are eighty-one demon tribes
and twenty-four generals. These twenty-four generals are all ancient demonic beasts with astonishing magical power. These demon tribes live in
barren mountains and swamps, not to mention countless miasma and poisonous snakes. The demon god is about to break free of his seal and be reborn, raising the banner to conquer the world again
. Even a powerful place like the Nine Heavens will face great difficulties." "Facing this critical moment, this trip to the Demon Realm carries a heavy responsibility. We must choose the lesser of two evils."
Xuan Yuanwen stopped, looked around, and took out paper and pen to draw the terrain before catching up with Jin Yue. "Jia Prefecture is in turmoil ; we must be careful." Jin Yue stood by the roadside, her slender figure framed by her hands, gazing into the distance. Her fragrant shoulders and flowing hair fluttered in the wind, brushing against her snow-white cheeks. "This trip will definitely help us ascertain the true strength of the Demon Realm. A war with the Demon Realm is probably inevitable sooner or later. Is there anything more dangerous than dealing with a tiger?" Xuan Yuanwen watched as her hair brushed against her red lips as she spoke, and this aloof beauty suddenly possessed a captivating allure. He was momentarily stunned. Jin Yue turned away calmly. "If you encounter troops from Jia Prefecture, do not start a fight without authorization, understand?" The crowd shouted in agreement. Zhou Ning chatted with Nangong Xian'er for a long time. She complained about the strong wind, took out a veil to cover her face, and said sweetly, "Miss Jin Yue, let's find a windless place to spend the night. It's getting dark." Jin Yue turned around and smiled, "Alright, let's walk a little further and find a sheltered place." The group walked step by step in the icy snow against the cold wind. The high mountains above were a vast expanse of white, with no sign of human habitation. A winding road led into the distance. The wind howled and whipped at their faces, freezing their bodies. After walking for a while, they finally found a small hill that sheltered them from the wind. They sat together by the roadside and started a fire to cook. The mules and horses were weary, wisps of smoke rose from the fire, and the firelight was warm. The five people huddled together by the fire for warmth, and chatted about their life aspirations. Nangong Xian'er smiled beautifully and said, "Let's just take it one day at a time." Xuanyuan Wen shook his head and smiled, "I don't have any grand ambitions. I'll be content to marry the woman I love and spend my life with her . Although I sometimes have a bit of ambition, it's nothing when I'm indifferent." Zhou Ning sat cross-legged on the snow and smiled helplessly, "Learn swordsmanship well. One shouldn't give up halfway through life." Everyone chuckled at this. Jin Yue rested her chin on her hand and thought for a moment, then said, "I'll choose a good man and live a secluded life in the countryside .
