A Thousand Years of Elegance Discussed in Laughter (Complete) - 27

Volume 35, Chapter 12: The Joys of Life

"What, Father wants to see Xiaoyao?" Shinguji Mina reined in Sheng and turned to ask.
"Yes, Sect Master heard that the young hero who escorted Miss along the way defeated dozens of masters from various schools, and even broke through Aoki Toshishi's absolute defense a few days ago. He couldn't help but be curious."
"Sect Master must be itching for a match and wants to spar with Brother Ren," Zaraki Kenpachi laughed heartily.
"No, no, Little Sword, you've got it wrong. This isn't a martial arts sparring session; we just want to see what kind of character and manners our future son-in-law will have." Kusashi Yachiru jumped onto Ren Xiaoyao's shoulder with a little foot, hugging his head and saying, "Big brother, you have to behave well, or you won't be able to marry Mina-neechan."
Upon hearing this, everyone exchanged knowing smiles. Shinguji Mina blushed and said, "Yachiru, you..."
"Candy, wedding candy, I want wedding candy!" Kusashi Yachiru smiled radiantly, clapping her little hands excitedly. She was clearly an innocent and pure little girl, hardly like the vice-captain of the Eleventh Division.
Ren Xiaoyao couldn't help but think of Liu Yong, the one who insisted on becoming his disciple but refused to learn any of his extraordinary skills, only asking him to teach him how to write lyrics...
Unbeknownst to him, more than half a year had passed since he left Xunfeng City. How was he now? Was he still mischievous and willful, always making fun of Liu Qianyun, or had he realized the responsibility on his shoulders and begun to study hard and practice martial arts diligently?
Furthermore, how is the reorganization of the Longxiang and Huyi armies progressing? Have they drawn elite followers from various halls to restore the standing force of eight thousand men? How is the plan to join forces with Tingyuxuan to exchange tea and silk for warhorses with Tibet and Western Xia, and to breed them along the fertile Yangtze River to expand the cavalry and counter the Liao army, progressing? When exactly do the Shura Sect and Juesha intend to invade the Central Plains, and will other forces from the surrounding barbarian countries participate? Are the heroes of the martial arts world under the command of the Jade Void Alliance prepared to resist foreign enemies...?
After
settling everyone into their lodgings, Ren Xiaoyao accompanied Shinguji Mina out of the city and headed towards Mount Kii.
Mount Kii is located at the confluence of the Yu River and the Kii River, surrounded by water on three sides. Its main peak rises over a hundred feet high, its majestic and beautiful form stretching for dozens of miles. Surrounding it are towering peaks and rugged ridges, and halfway up, it is shrouded in mist.
Ren Xiaoyao, accompanied by Captain Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni, Captain Hitsugaya Toshiro, and other captains and vice-captains, basked in the warm afternoon sun, crossed the river and climbed along the foothills.
Between the two mountain ranges lies a hilly wilderness covered in dense forests. Streams and rivers are hidden among towering ancient trees, including fir, pine, white oak, and camphor trees, creating a breathtaking natural landscape. Clouds cluster around the mountains to the north and south, with flowing clouds like ribbons on the mountainside, and misty haze. Wild trees cling to the ponds and mountains, their roots intertwined, moss flowing green, and waterfalls cascading down or plunging in stages, water striking the rocks and creating countless swirling, splashing, and captivating scenes. After passing through a mountain peak, the scenery suddenly changed. Deep forests stretched out, and pools were connected by rushing waterfalls, their contours rising and falling with the terrain. The valleys resembled tiered steps, with waterfalls cascading down and overflowing, their roar echoing. It was as if a path had ended, only to suddenly reveal a hidden paradise, a delightful surprise and a delightful discovery.
Around a bend, the scenery changed again. First, the roar of a waterfall thundered, and then, as the walkway widened, a wave of mist washed over them. Amidst the swirling mountain mist, a waterfall, like a dragon emerging from a cave, gushed down from a precipice, reaching the bottom and forming a turbulent torrent before rushing away with the mountain's current—a breathtaking sight.
Even Ren Xiaoyao, accustomed to famous mountains and rivers, was captivated by the spectacle. He reined in his horse, stood with his hands behind his back, and gazed in silent contemplation, feeling his spirit soaring and merging with the universe.
"Ah, if only I could cast aside the world's strife, live in seclusion here with my women, enjoying all the pleasures of life and the joys of love, without having to concern myself with the fighting and killing in the martial world, how wonderful that would be."
Seeing Ren Xiaoyao watching intently, Shinguji Mina roughly guessed what he was thinking. A faint smile appeared on her crimson lips as she softly said, "I once asked my father, 'What is the duty of a true ninja?' My father was silent for a long time, and finally said, 'In chaotic times, we fight to the death to protect civilians; in peaceful times, we do our best to safeguard the happiness of the people.' This is the ninja's duty and mission, and also the ninja's pride." "Duty and mission..." Ren Xiaoyao nodded as if he understood, repeatedly pondering those six words.
“Yes, just like you, as the leader of the Heavenly Pole Sect, not only must you protect the interests of your brothers in the sect, but you must also fulfill your responsibilities to the nation and the country, even traveling thousands of miles across the sea to Japan to establish a trade alliance between the two countries.” Shinguji Mina’s gaze drifted towards Ren Xiaoyao, her pretty face glowing with a holy and bright light, making her even more breathtakingly beautiful. “Originally, we could have completed the agreement simply by going to Kyoto and spending a few days at the Grand Minister’s residence, but because of me, you were dragged into the struggle for the crown prince’s position, making your return date uncertain. I’m truly sorry.”
Ren Xiaoyao, feeling guilty, awkwardly looked away. He knew that the terms “trade between the two countries” and “alliance agreement” were all things he had mentioned when he first met Shinguji Mina. The reason for her fabrication would inevitably be exposed if she continued down this line, so she quickly changed the subject, saying, "By the way, I noticed that Yachiru isn't even ten years old yet. How did she become the vice-captain? Although her lightness skill is good, she's still too young. Her internal strength and ninjutsu cultivation... cough cough, I mean, if such a young girl is appointed as the vice-captain, will the other members of the Eleventh Division obey her orders?"
Shinguji Mina's elegant and beautiful face revealed a meaningful smile as she slowly said, "My mother taught me a proverb from your Central Plains: 'You can't judge a book by its cover, and you can't measure water with a bushel.' If I hadn't said it, you probably would never have imagined that Yachiru is only sixteen years old this year, just two years younger than me."
"What!? She...she's already sixteen!"
"Yes, Yachiru was born in the poorest 'Kusa-Shika' district of Nara. Her parents died when she was five. Because she was always hungry and cold, her physical development was extremely slow. She stopped growing after the age of nine and always looked like a child. More than ten years ago, in the winter, Captain Zaraki was on a mission and found her frozen stiff behind a dilapidated house on the verge of collapse in Kusa-Shika. Because she looked pitiful, he took her back to Hueco Mundo..." At this point, she suddenly rode forward, leaned close to Ren Xiaoyao's ear, and whispered in a soft voice, "Nominally, Yachiru's martial arts were taught by her father, but in fact, apart from ninjutsu, everything else was taught by her mother. Only I know this secret, so don't tell anyone else."
Ren Xiaoyao nodded knowingly, secretly planning how to find out about Hanashi-kun's current situation through Kusa-Shika Yachiru so that he could give Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan a satisfactory answer as soon as possible.
Mina Shinguji gave a sweet, innocent smile, her beautiful eyes fixed on him as she continued, "For over a decade, Captain Zaraki has treated Yachiru like his own sister, showering her with meticulous care and love. Aside from eating, sleeping, and practicing martial arts, they're inseparable, even during missions. You've fought Captain Zaraki, so you should know his personality—he usually has a stern face and rarely speaks, but when a fight breaks out, he immediately becomes energetic and can destroy an opponent's mind with just words."
Ren Xiaoyao nodded with deep feeling. Kenpachi Zaraki was a formidable opponent he had never encountered before, even surpassing Hentian in some aspects; no wonder he was on par with Toshishi Aoki.
"Yachiru's personality is quite the opposite. Because she rarely sees strangers, she's usually very carefree and speaks without restraint. But once she gets into a fight, she's more serious than anyone else." Shinguji Mina let out a silvery laugh, her dreamy, misty eyes glancing at the chattering and noisy Kusanagi Yachiru sitting on Zaraki Kenpachi's shoulder a few feet away. She said with a half-smile, "Of course, everyone who has met Yachiru treats her like a child, and no one is wary of her. So, since she came of age and completed her apprenticeship, she has never failed in any mission. No matter what school or sect the opponent comes from, once they've seen her make a move, none of them are still alive."
"I see. No wonder Hojo Tomohide was so terrified when he talked about Yachiru." Surprised, Ren Xiaoyao felt a pang of shame. It was one thing for others to misjudge, but even he, with his keen eye and unerring judgment, hadn't noticed. A mere vice-captain possessed such abilities; the 13th Division of the Imperial Guard truly lived up to its name.
"In terms of strength, the 11th Division is undoubtedly the strongest of the 13th Division. Not only does its captain possess the title 'Kenpachi,' bestowed upon the strongest ninja by the sect throughout history, but even the 3rd Seat, Madarame Ikkaku, the 4th Seat, ōmaeda Kichiyo, and the 5th Seat, Ayasegawa Yumichika, all possess vice-captain-level power. The 6th Division's vice-captain, Abarai Renji, and the 7th Division's vice-captain, Iba Tetsuzaemon, also come from here. Yet Yachiru is the only vice-captain among all of them who was promoted without taking the entrance exam, and no one objected. Do you know why?" (

Volume 35, Chapter 13: Unmarried Before Marriage)

"Why?" Ren Xiaoyao immediately became interested.
“Because…” Mina Shinguji suddenly smiled, mysteriously saying, “It’ll lose its charm if I tell you. You’ll know when the time is right.”
“We’re here! We’re here! We’re almost here!” Yachiru Kusashi clapped her hands excitedly.
Looking into the distance, Hueco Mundo nestled against the mountains and embraced the water, built along the rugged terrain. The city walls meandered down from the peaks, following the contours of the mountains. The main buildings stood majestically on a large flat area carved out of the mountains, forming an irregular square shape that was longer in the north and south and shorter in the northwest, protected by city walls. It had four gates, and together with several watchtowers and arrow towers, it formed a complete defensive system. It possessed a majestic aura that made it impossible for one man to break through ten thousand, dominating the surrounding mountains and plains, facing the Obsidian Forest in the distance, symbolizing the dominant power over the safety of all of Nara, and even the whole of Japan.
To Ren Xiaoyao's surprise, despite Shinguji Ryuugen's grand gesture of sending seven captains and seven vice-captains of the Thirteen Guards to protect his daughter, the entire Xuye Palace showed no sign of joy in welcoming the young lady's return. Not only did they not see it, but the guards at the palace gate were all holding swords and looking serious. Even the dozen or so crossbows in the arrow quiver were fully loaded with arrows and ready to be fired, aiming at the only path leading to the palace gate. But if anyone accidentally touched the bowstring, they would be the one shooting Ren Xiaoyao and his companions.
Yoruichi Shihōin said in a deep voice, "Master Ren, please don't take offense. These are extraordinary times, and the Third Prince is residing in the palace. The Thirteen Divisions cannot afford any mishaps, so..."
Ren Xiaoyao asked in astonishment, "What? Does anyone dare to attack this place directly?" Yoruichi
was about to speak when Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni suddenly turned around and interrupted, "Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. Until the succession struggle is resolved, the defenses of Hueco Mundo cannot be relaxed."
Ren Xiaoyao nodded and remained silent. He keenly sensed that this matter was far from simple, and that some unspeakable secret was hidden behind it.
The exterior and interior of Hueco Mundo evoked completely different feelings. If the former conjured images of attack and defense, of war and slaughter, the latter only evoked tranquility, peace, and solemnity. The
sheer size of the palace gate alone revealed the immense manpower and resources invested in its construction.
This gate is flanked by towers, each tower reaching twelve zhang in height, complemented by crenellations. The gate passage extends more than ten zhang deep, with upturned eaves and walls echoing the towers. A double-story building with a hanging lintel is flanked by carved wooden dragons and tigers, creating a magnificent sight. The overall architectural style is quite similar to that of Xunfeng City, clearly referencing Tang Dynasty palaces.
Upon entering, palaces are arranged in rows, with crisscrossing thoroughfares. A cross street runs east-west, dividing the palace city into north and south sections, creating a layout that is narrower in the south and wider in the north. Hundreds of palaces are distributed on both sides, connected by more than ten orderly, bluestone-paved avenues. The most distinctive feature is the tiered ascent along the mountainside, with stone steps and ramps connecting each level for easy access for carriages and horses. Trees and flowers line the paths, and mountain spring water is channeled to form streams that meander through the gardens and residences, creating endless beauty with small bridges, flowing water, ponds, and pavilions. The spacious and comfortable environment resembles the scenery of a Jiangnan garden, making one feel as if they are in a large mountain garden.
The main buildings of Hueco Mundo are clustered on a large platform about two miles in circumference on the ninth floor. The buildings are imposing and elegant, constructed of wood and stone. From the eaves to the latticed windows, the meticulous craftsmanship creates a magnificent atmosphere that blends Eastern and Western cultures, further highlighting the significant position of the Hokushin Itto-ryu school in Japan.
Hokushin Itto-ryu ninjas, all dressed in white with numbers one through thirteen marked on their chests and badges on their shoulders indicating their respective squads, are visible everywhere.
Particularly striking are the black-clad figures standing atop the palace every few dozen feet, gazing intently at the surrounding area. They all wear white masks mimicking animals, and their clothing is identical. Unlike the members of the thirteenth squad who proactively bowed, these figures, despite clearly seeing Ren Xiaoyao and his companions, remained motionless, seemingly oblivious, as if the young lady and her captains were not present at all.
Ren Xiaoyao observed this and frowned. The Song Dynasty was a land of etiquette, and the Heavenly Pole Sect was even more rigidly hierarchical. Even when meeting a colleague of higher rank, regardless of whether they belonged to the same branch, one had to bow and scrape respectfully. After taking office, he found these formalities too cumbersome and ordered their abolition. Even so, no member of the Heavenly Pole Sect dared not fail to pay respects to the Commander, Deputy Hall Master, or Hall Master.
Japanese culture largely originated from China, and its etiquette was even more elaborate. Ordinary people couldn't simply nod and bow and address officials as "Your Excellency"; they had to kneel directly, prostrate on the ground, and only rise when spoken to. When leaving, they had to kneel again to see them off, without the slightest disrespect; otherwise, it would be considered insubordination, and execution wouldn't be unjust. Putting aside Mina Shinguji's status as a young lady, there are a total of fourteen Jonin of the Hokushin Ittō-ryū school, eight of whom were present. It is truly against the rules that they saw it but did nothing.
Seeing Ren Xiaoyao's displeasure, Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni was slightly surprised. Following Ren Xiaoyao's gaze, he understood and stroked his beard, saying with a smile, "Master Ren, please don't take offense. They are our sect's 'Anbu,' short for Assassination Tactics Special Forces. They are composed of elite Chunin selected from the Thirteenth Division. Their main responsibility is to protect the women of the palace and prevent foreign invasion. They engage in confidential or espionage work, and sometimes they are also responsible for reconnaissance and assassination missions. All members of the Anbu are loyal only to the sect leader. All orders are issued by the sect leader. There are five squads under them, and the squad leaders relay orders and lead the execution. The nature of the missions and all other information are kept secret, and their actions and achievements are never made public.
" Kodama Soi Fong added, "Because of the special nature of the Anbu's duties, all the rules and regulations regarding etiquette can be disregarded. Even if they encounter the young lady, they cannot leave their posts without permission." As they spoke ,
the group left the solemn and majestic palace complex, walking along the winding cobblestone path through the gardens until they arrived at an open area.
Nestled among lush trees, a crescent-shaped lake came into view. In the center of the lake was an oasis, spanning several acres, dotted with more than ten elegant and exquisite small buildings. A long, snow-white jade bridge connected the oasis to its shore. Stepping onto the bridge was like entering a beautiful landscape painting; the wind rippled the clear water, the trees shone brightly, and the pavilions and towers on the oasis blended seamlessly with the surrounding scenery. The colors intertwined, a small bridge and flowing water nestled among lush green foliage, shimmering and sparkling, a breathtaking sight. All around
, vibrant flowers of every hue bloomed, carpeting the ground in a riot of colors, a tapestry of blossoms, the water like clouds. In the distance, several elegant houses were faintly visible, interspersed with strangely shaped rocks and peaks, creating an exceptionally beautiful scene. Crossing the jade bridge, a few unnamed flowering trees stood sparsely ahead, their crimson and white blossoms interspersed with green buds, their cool elegance shimmering. Beneath them, soft, lush grass grew, a scene of vibrant spring.
"This was the imperial garden during the Heian period, used by the royal family to tame various rare and exotic animals. In recent years, under the sect leader's instructions, it has been converted into a training ground for a secret mobile force," Shihouin Yoru explained as they walked.
"A training ground! Here?" Ren Xiaoyao was taken aback.
"Yes, you wouldn't believe it, would you? A picturesque imperial garden connected to rigorous training." "Yoruichi Shihouin giggled. "But...hehe, there's something even more surprising coming up."
The group passed through the grove of flowering trees. Ahead, every five steps there was a bridge, every ten steps a pavilion. Amidst the rows of willows, nestled a serene and elegant building. In the flowerbed before the building, a dozen or so women in white dresses were gathered in twos and threes
, pruning the branches. Each one was as beautiful as a flower, their delicate charm enhanced by the blooms. Ren Xiaoyao's eyes lit up. The Hokushin Ittō-ryū was indeed filled with beauties. In terms of mature allure and captivating charm, Yoruichi Shihōin and Rangiku Matsumoto were no less than the Five Beauties of Igagaya; in terms of pure beauty and delicate charm, Momo Hinamori and Aya Sakabe were the foremost; as for Mina Shinguji and Nanao Ise, they possessed an indescribable cold beauty, making one feel that conquering them in bed would be the greatest pleasure in life. These girls before him each had their own unique charm and allure, even he, accustomed to seeing beautiful women, couldn't help but stop and admire them.
"Young Miss is back! Come and greet her!" Shout Aya, and the girls immediately stopped pruning the branches and rushed towards Shinguji Mina with cheers.
"Captain, you're finally back! We've missed you so much!" "Yes, yes, we were so worried about you!" "Everyone trained very hard and did not disappoint the captain."
Hearing the girls calling "Captain!" "Captain!", Ren Xiaoyao was dumbfounded. After a long while, he managed to utter through gritted teeth, "Mina... does Mina have another title?" "No, these are the members of the Covert Mobile Force... oh, I should say the main force members." Yoruichi Shihouin shrugged slightly, seemingly casually.
"Main...main force members?" Ren Xiaoyao was so shocked his eyes almost popped out. "The Hidden Mobile Force is full of teenage girls?"
"Yes, as a newly established secret organization of our sect, all members of the Hidden Mobile Force are beautiful young girls under the age of twenty. Don't be fooled by their innocent appearance and lack of guile; they have undergone rigorous training since childhood and are proficient in various skills such as infiltration, disguise, espionage, reconnaissance, and assassination. They are responsible for reconnaissance before operations,"
Yoruichi Shihouin explained with a smile. "Master Ren is a man of passion; he should know that beautiful girls are the easiest to infiltrate the enemy camp and obtain first-hand intelligence."
"But...the price to pay will be correspondingly higher, right?" Ren Xiaoyao countered.
"There are gains and losses. A ninja who doesn't understand sacrifice cannot be called a ninja at all." Yoruichi Shihouin's beautiful eyes gleamed with a strange light as she slowly spoke, each word deliberate. "To prevent the throne from falling into the hands of the extravagant and debauched Prince Kiriko, to stop the Iga Valley's evil deeds that wreak havoc on the martial world, and to maintain the stability of the ninja world and the entire nation, the entire Hokushin Ittō-ryū school is prepared to sacrifice itself!"
Ren Xiaoyao was suddenly shaken. The current situation was so similar to the day the Liao army invaded, and the 100,000 soldiers of the Tianji Sect vowed to fight to the death. Only the real battles on the battlefield had been replaced by the intrigue and deceit between sects.
After a brief stop by the bridge, the group arrived at a magnificent and imposing courtyard.
Yoruichi Shihōin suddenly stopped, lowering her voice, "The sect leader's personality... might seem a bit strange to Master Ren. The reason he summoned you here might be..."
Ren Xiaoyao was startled, "The head of Shinguji isn't going to use me as a test subject, is he?"
Yoruichi Shihōin leaned close to his ear, her voice filled with worry, "Testing your martial arts is inevitable, but I'm afraid the sect leader might get carried away and lose control. You don't know, do you? Rumors about you and the young lady are rampant in the martial world, saying that back in Nara you... you forcibly... deflowered her... cough cough. This time, we traveled a long way, overcoming numerous difficulties, to send her back to Hueco Mundo, all to propose marriage to the sect leader."
She paused, lowering her voice even further, "Being unmarried... is a major taboo in the ninjutsu world. The sect leader was furious when he found out. He has a whetstone; the names of all his targets are engraved on it. A few days ago, I sent the secret mobile force back..." "The news was sent to Guanlan Hall, and I saw your name..."
Ren Xiaoyao asked in surprise, "What good would killing me do for him?"
Shifengyuan Yeyi said in a deep voice, "The sect leader only has one daughter, the eldest young lady, whom he cherishes like a treasure. Over the years, he has gone through all the elite disciples of the seven major sects to choose a son-in-law, but none of them have met his approval. Now that the rumors have spread, everyone in the martial arts world knows about it. According to the traditional rules of our Fusang, it is impossible not to marry the eldest young lady to you, unless you are..." As she spoke, she slightly raised her hand and made a "snap" gesture, "If your performance satisfies the sect leader later, then there will be no problem. If not... Sect Leader Ren is injured, and if a fight breaks out, he may not be able to withstand a few moves from the sect leader. How about I try to say a few good words for you and see if I can dissuade him..."
Ren Xiaoyao laughed and said loudly, "I, Ren Xiaoyao, am not the kind of person who backs down in the face of battle. If the head of Zhengong Temple wants to test my skills, then let him test them." Having said that, he strode confidently through the courtyard gate. (

Chapter 14 of Volume 35: Testing the Son-in-Law)

Upon entering, a winding corridor stretched across the pond and flowerbeds. Following the corridor, turning left and right, one could see lush greenery everywhere, the scenery changing with every step, creating a unique and enchanting atmosphere.
At the end of the corridor stood a hexagonal stone pavilion, precisely at the center of the pond, connected by a stone bridge to a surrounding corridor that led to another entrance. Within this corridor, ancient trees could be seen reaching for the sky, dense and robust, full of vitality.
Ren Xiaoyao followed the others through the stone pavilion, across the bridge, and up the corridor, passing through the second courtyard gate. Suddenly, the space opened up before him, at the far end of which stood a magnificent five-bay wooden structure. A grand hall stood before them, eight zhang high, ten zhang wide, and over twenty zhang long, its imposing presence accentuated by the side halls on either side.
A towering locust tree, several zhang tall, stretched majestically in the center of the courtyard, its canopy like a parasol, shading the buildings and the courtyard. Bathed in sunlight, its verdant shade spread across the ground, blending seamlessly with the main building, creating a harmonious and poetic scene.
Ren Xiaoyao felt greatly pleased, strolling leisurely around the locust tree to fully appreciate its beauty before slowly ascending the white stone steps of the building bearing the plaque inscribed with the three characters "Guanlan Hall."
The vast space of Guanlan Hall... A figure stood with his back to the door in the center of the hall, unarmed, his posture as straight as a javelin. He wore a long, gray-black robe that stretched to the ground, his imposing presence like a mountain. His jet-black hair was tied in a bun on top of his head. His hands were behind his back, and even without visible facial features, he exuded an air of arrogance
and dominance. On either side of the wall hung more than a dozen samurai swords of various shapes. Against the wall at the other end of the door stood a massive, dark, glossy stone, shaped like a stalagmite, reaching a person's height. On the side facing the door were many names carved, the top one being "Ren Xiaoyao," the strokes of which were imbued with the spirit of Shinguji Ryuken. The pursuit of the ultimate in martial arts added an indescribable layer of meaning to the already solemn atmosphere.
The captains and vice-captains stood on either side, none daring to speak, not even Mina Shinguji.
The hall was deathly silent, thick with tension.
Even someone as unconventional and audacious as Ren Xiaoyao, facing this extraordinary figure hailed as "the greatest martial artist in Japan," a figure even Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan would be ashamed of, felt a little apprehensive. He respectfully bowed to Shinguji's back, saying, "This junior, Ren Xiaoyao, pays respects to Headmaster Shinguji!"
Ren Xiaoyao asked in surprise, "Am I late?"
Shinguji Ryuugen whirled around, coldly replying, "From Tottori to Nara, a mere twenty-day journey, you took Mina two months. Isn't that late?" He didn't intentionally raise his voice, yet it was like a thunderclap, piercing the heavens, as if the entire hall trembled.
Ren Xiaoyao finally faced the powerful and influential leader of the seven major sects of Fusang, Zhen Gongji Longxuan—the father of his beloved.
It was a flawless, handsome face, with eyes, ears, nose, and mouth that all possessed a robust quality as if sculpted from granite. His high forehead and upturned chin gave him a majestic appearance, and his calm demeanor carried a melancholy expression that could move anyone, yet also made one feel that the emotions within were deep and elusive.
Though his temples were streaked with gray, he showed no signs of aging; instead, it added to his noble air of a high-ranking family and the demeanor of a Confucian scholar, making him awe-inspiring and unapproachable. Standing there, he exuded an air of dominance, as if he were the only one worthy of the title. Combined with his well-proportioned and graceful physique and imposing stature, he truly possessed the captivating aura of a peerless master. His broad shoulders and thick scapulae accentuated the lines of his chest, which filled his tight-fitting black suit. His face and physique complemented each other perfectly, making him handsome and imposing. His high, bony forehead inspired fear, and beneath his thick eyebrows were a pair of sharp, hawk-like eyes that seemed to see through everything, as if there was nothing he couldn't do.
He was a little taller than Ren Xiaoyao, and when Ren Xiaoyao's gaze swept over him, an uneasy feeling arose that nothing could escape his notice.
Shinguji Ryuugen glanced around and said loudly, "Everyone, you've all worked hard. The faction will remember you for your contribution in bringing Mina back safely. Go back and rest for now. The second, seventh, eighth, and tenth squads will change shifts as usual in two hours."
The captains and vice-captains all agreed in unison and soon left, leaving only Ren Xiaoyao, Shinguji Mina, Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni, and Kurosaki Masayoshi in the large hall.
Shinguji Ryuugen glanced at Ren Xiaoyao a few times, then looked up at the roof beam and said calmly, "I heard that you broke through the absolute defense single-handedly and fought Kenpachi to a draw while injured. Is that true?"
Ren Xiaoyao cupped his hands and said, "I dare not accept such praise. In my fight with Sect Master Aoki, I lost consciousness first and was spared by his mercy. Yesterday, my sparring with Captain Zaraki was only halfway through..."
Shinguji Ryuugen abruptly interrupted, "Enough! Excessive humility is arrogance. You are a Song person, haven't you heard of this saying?" He spoke fluent Chinese.
Mina Shinguji tried to smooth things over, saying, "Father, Xiaoyao, he..."
Ryuugen Shinguji's gaze returned to Ren Xiaoyao's face, and he sneered, "This kid is skilled in martial arts and also adept at disguise. If he had taken you and Zhengliang back to Xuye Palace alone, it would have taken twenty days... no, fifteen days to get back to Nara. Why did he have to lead a large group of people, stopping and starting, and spend two whole months to arrive safely?"
Seeing her father's displeasure and noticing her lover's name engraved on the whetstone, Mina Shinguji was afraid that a wrong answer would provoke her father's anger, so she quickly said gently, "Those who came with Xiaoyao are all experts from the Tianji Sect. It's safer to travel with them. Besides..."
"Safe? Hmph, so far, in every battle, in every fight, has this kid not fought alone? Has he ever asked anyone else for help?" Ryuugen Shinguji's face hardened, and he said sternly, "I think he's clearly just looking for an opportunity to show off his martial arts in front of you, so that you'll follow him wholeheartedly. People from the Central Plains, they're very cunning."
"Ha, Father is beating around the bush when talking about Mother, I'm going to tell on you!" Shinguji Mina's beautiful eyes darted around, and she said coquettishly.
"You... fine, fine, fine, Shijun often says 'a daughter is no longer worthless when she grows up,' this time you went out on a mission alone, who knows, you might fall in love with some man and forget your parents - reprinted from *** bookstore hand-typed works, enter *** to support the hand-typed works! At first I didn't believe it, but now it seems..." Shinguji Ryuugen's face turned cold, and his eyes were filled with murderous intent, "Now it seems you really are siding with outsiders, insisting on protecting this kid. Fine, I'll kill him now, let's see who you protect!"
"Sect Master..." Yamamoto Genryusai Shigekuni only said two words before Shinguji Ryuugen suddenly moved, raised his palm and struck out, with a fierce wind, towards Ren Xiaoyao's forehead.
Ren Xiaoyao was shocked by the words "Shijun" in Shinguji Ryuugen's mouth, and never expected that Shinguji Ryuugen, with his status, would attack so suddenly.
Even more unbelievable was that wherever Shinguji Ryuugen's figure appeared, it instantly transformed into countless illusory shadows, shifting east and west, north and south, closing in from all directions. Even with Ren Xiaoyao's unparalleled keen senses and unmatched eyesight, he couldn't immediately discern the direction of Shinguji Ryuugen's attack.
What to do? What to do?!
Should he channel his innate supreme qi to protect his meridians and withstand Shinguji Ryuugen's blow? Or should he risk his life and gamble, pushing the Nine Revolutions Returning to Origin Force towards the most likely point of impact, hoping to deflect Shinguji Ryuugen's palm strike back? Or should he use the Hunyuan Wuji technique to try and neutralize the opponent's fierce and relentless offensive...?
If he had a dozen or so, he could surely devise a strategy for every possible counterattack within a hundred or so moves, but Shinguji Ryuugen's movements were far too fast; there was simply no time for him to consider. In a
split second, Ren Xiaoyao had already made his decision.
He stood motionless, neither dodging nor parrying, even forcibly dissipating the internal energy that naturally gathered in response to external stimuli.
"Xiaoyao!" Shinguji Mina was horrified, her delicate body trembling, nearly collapsing in fear.
"Whoosh—" The gust of wind vanished just before it touched Ren Xiaoyao, merely ruffling a few strands of hair from his forehead, leaving no mark on his skin.
Shinguji Mina's legs gave way, and she collapsed to the ground.
If Shinguji Ryuuxuan had been even slightly slower, Ren Xiaoyao would have been dead on the spot.
"Good lad, why didn't you make a move?" Shinguji Ryuuxuan's deep voice sounded from behind.
"The timing, location, and popular support are all in the Sect Master's hands. Besides, I'm injured. Even if I manage to block this attack, I definitely can't block the second. And even if I could block the second, I'd still be..." Ren Xiaoyao was also covered in cold sweat. If his judgment had been slightly off, he would never have been able to return to the Central Plains.
"You think you're going to die anyway, so you might as well stand there and not move?" Zhen Gongji Longxuan said coldly.
"No, as long as I don't move, Sect Master, you won't kill me." Ren Xiaoyao smiled slightly.
"Oh, how do you know?" Zhen Gongji Longxuan said coldly.
"The Sect Master is the head of one of the seven major sects, commanding the ninja world and ruling over the heroes of the martial world. Why would you take action against a junior who has no power to resist?" Ren Xiaoyao turned around nonchalantly.
"Hahaha, good lad! Such courage and boldness at such a young age, calm and composed in the face of danger! I'm so relieved that Mina is marrying a man like you!" Shinguji Ryuuji carefully examined Ren Xiaoyao, confirming several times that he showed no sign of panic or tension. Suddenly, he laughed heartily, a satisfied expression spreading across his face, instantly dissolving Ren Xiaoyao's cold demeanor and the murderous intent in his eyes.
"Father, what are you going to do? Mina's scared to death!" Shinguji Mina muttered softly.
“I wanted to test whether this kid was qualified to marry you, so I tested him. Otherwise, given your father’s status, if we were to fight, we would have arranged a date and fought properly. Why would I need to suddenly intervene?” Shinguji Ryuugen stroked his beard and smiled. “He’s protected you all the way here, so his martial arts must be quite strong. There’s no point in fighting him directly. Besides, what I value most is character. Just now, I took advantage of his unpreparedness and launched a sudden, heavy-handed sneak attack. If he had done something shameful to you, he would have retreated out of guilt, thinking I knew. If he were arrogant and conceited, thinking his martial arts were superior and unable to analyze the situation, he would have attacked to defend himself. But he was able to calmly analyze the situation in a very short time and knew that staying still was the best way to save his life. This courage and boldness are probably unique in Japan… in the Central Plains, no, in the entire world!”
"Could it be...could it be that you engraved Xiaoyao's name on the whetstone purely to test...test his character and...and his ability to adapt to changing circumstances?"
"Also, those words of Captain Ling Sui, could they have been deliberately spoken by you, Sect Master?"
"Hahaha, if it weren't for Sui Feng's 'kind reminder,' would you have known I was going to take your life the moment I struck, and would you have shown your true intentions in your actions?" Shinguji Ryuugen's eyes flashed with sharp light as he stared at Ren Xiaoyao and slowly said, "Don't blame me for using trickery. For my daughter's lifelong happiness, I, as her father, would do anything. Of course, you're quite capable, kid, easily passing my test."
"Sect Master, you flatter me, I..."
"Don't think you can marry Mina just because I nod. You still have many tests to face." Shinguji Ryuugen strode forward, hands behind his back, stopping about five steps behind Ren Xiaoyao. His gaze, filled with deep emotion, fixed on the locust tree in the courtyard. He said casually, "Mina, take Sect Leader Ren to your mother. She has many questions for this young man from her homeland." (

Chapter 1, Volume 36: Harmonious Union)

Leaving Guanlan Pavilion, Ren Xiaoyao couldn't help but sigh, cold sweat trickling down his back.
A test? What kind of test is this? If he hadn't been used to big scenes and could remain calm in crucial moments, he wouldn't even know how he died.
"You were frightened by Father, weren't you? Actually, he's not usually this strict." Shinguji Mina moved closer, apologetically saying, "It's all my fault for not informing you beforehand."
"Hehe, the Sect Leader loves his daughter deeply; I can understand that. " Ren Xiaoyao laughed heartily, "After all, you are his only daughter. If you marry a bad man, wouldn't that ruin your life?"
"But you are a good man. Besides my father, you are the best man I have ever met in my life." Shinguji Mina gave him a shy yet sweet smile, exceptionally charming, her fragrant lips uttering softly.
"Oh, what makes me so good?" Ren Xiaoyao asked with a smile.
"You...we are complete strangers, yet you protected me at all costs, even risking your own life." Shinguji Mina's cheeks flushed red, her beautiful eyes blazing with an incomprehensible intensity, "Remember when we were besieged by wandering ninjas at Zenkoji Temple? I saw you chasing Aiuchi Rina for a long time without returning, so I ran out to look for you alone, only to find myself trapped in a burning forest. It was you, you risked your life to rescue me, even injuring yourself to protect me with your inner strength." “
Protecting my loved ones is my duty. Even if it kills me, I won’t let you suffer the slightest harm.”
“Why ‘you’? Can’t you just comfort me alone at a time like this?” Mina Shinguji’s pretty face flushed slightly, then a fleeting look of resentment appeared before she lowered her head and said softly.
“Do ninjas fall for this kind of ‘coaxing’?” Ren Xiaoyao cleverly countered with a question.
“Although I’m a ninja, I’m still a girl.” Mina Shinguji’s beautiful eyes sparkled as she gazed at the clear blue sky, locking onto a drifting, free-floating white cloud, and said wistfully, “What girl in the world doesn’t wish that the person she loves only loves her, like Father and Mother, living in harmony and growing old together?”
“You know… such a thing is simply impossible for me.” Ren Xiaoyao gave a bitter smile and sighed softly, "I like you, and I also like Fengyi, Fengzi, Furong, Xiuxiu, Hanbi, and Feiyun. I love you all deeply, I love each and every one of you, I love your every smile, every gesture, every feature. But if I had to choose which one I love more, or stop loving one for the sake of another, I... I can't do it."
Shinguji Mina chuckled, her captivating eyes darting across his handsome, serious face. She leaned closer, lowering her voice to its lowest possible level, yet still speaking clearly and softly, her breath like orchids, "Just kidding. My sisters are very close, why would I be jealous of them? I was just thinking about seeing Mother soon, and it made me a little sentimental, so I just asked."
"Sentimental? What sentimental?" Ren Xiaoyao was taken aback upon hearing this. "
Do you know that the Shinguji, Taira, Minamoto, and Kuchiki families are known as the four great families of Japan? The Minamoto and Taira families are close relatives of the royal family, while the Kuchiki family and our family are famous for their immense power in the court and the ninja world, respectively. For any family, continuing the family line and maintaining the purity of the bloodline are matters of course of great importance. However, as the head of the Shinguji family, Father has not yet had an heir. The elders in the family have all advised Father to take another wife and have a son to inherit the Shinguji family in the future, but Father has always refused to agree. He would rather sever the direct bloodline than not stay with Mother." "Mina Shinguji sighed softly, turned and nestled into Ren Xiaoyao's arms. Her ethereal, otherworldly beauty was tinged with melancholy. She frowned slightly and sighed again, her voice trembling with a sob, "Those old fogies in the clan dare not criticize Father, so they vent their anger on Mother, saying she's an unlucky woman who has been married to Father for over twenty years but hasn't been able to conceive... hasn't been able to bear children. If Mother hadn't practiced martial arts since childhood, her willpower would be far stronger than ordinary people, and she probably wouldn't have been able to hold on." "
What!? The Shinguji Sect Leader's feelings for Senior Hua are so deep!" Ren Xiaoyao's body trembled violently, he stood frozen on the spot, his mind churning with turmoil, unable to calm down. "We made a mistake coming here. This trip to Japan was a complete mistake." "
Mina Shinguji, unaware of her lover's unusual behavior, buried her head in his arms. "Over the years, Mother has endured so much blame and hardship. Father is too busy with his affairs to stay by her side for long periods. I also went to Nara and haven't been back for several months. I really don't know... I really don't know what Mother is like..."
"Don't worry, Auntie will hold on, she definitely will!" Ren Xiaoyao hugged Mina Shinguji tightly, and their passionate hearts became one at that moment.
Junna
Palace, the palace of the Empress during the Heian period, was renovated and became the secluded residence of Hanashi-kun.
This alone is enough to demonstrate Shinguji Ryūken's favor towards Hanashi-kun.
This is because the scale and decoration of Junna Palace are in no way inferior to Taiji Palace, his residence in Mitsukaze Castle. Taiji Palace was meticulously renovated by Emperor Taizu (Zhao Kuangyin) after he ascended the throne with the help of the Tianji Sect, with everything resembling the imperial regalia. It is almost equivalent to the current Emperor's residence, Funei Palace. In the impoverished country of Japan, even the Emperor's palace in Kyoto might not be comparable.
Junna Palace was built ... The Qian Hall, situated on a single-layered stone platform, rises to a height of several tens of feet. From the ground to the roof's eaves, it is approximately twenty feet high, surrounded by a low, permeable wall made of yellow and green glazed bricks. The palace spans seven bays in width and three bays in depth, with a single-eave hip roof. It appears to have two stories from the outside but is actually three stories inside. The four corners are pyramidal, with blue glazed tiles adorning the eaves and ridges, and the rest covered in yellow glazed tiles. The roof is entirely covered with gilded bronze tiles, and each of the four ridges is topped with a gilded bronze phoenix. The eaves, columns, and beams are decorated with openwork cloud and dragon interlocking rings, and the brackets below are also decorated with solid gold, creating a magnificent and opulent atmosphere. The four sides of the hall are secretly guarded, ensuring tight security. To the left and right of the palace courtyard are large wells for supplying water to the imperial palace; two-story buildings with a hanging bell are also built to the southeast and due south of the courtyard. A hanging drum and a water clock below would chime the bells and drums at certain times to announce the time.
The main hall itself was even more grand in scale, spanning thirteen bays and twenty-nine rafters, with a three-tiered pavilion, pillars twenty-four spans in circumference, carved beams and railings, snow-white lintels and elegant pillars, a beautiful well with hanging lotus flowers, and flowing rainbows, dazzling to the eye. It possessed both the solemnity and grandeur of Tang Dynasty palaces and a touch of the elegance and refinement of Song Dynasty palaces, rich in poetic charm.
The two walked hand in hand through the "Dragon Tail Path" in front of the hall, which was the staircase leading from the ground to the main hall. The Dragon Tail Path was divided into three levels, the main body of which was paved with marble, with blue stone railings on both sides. The uppermost railing was carved with a special dragon-head ornament symbolizing the Hokushin Itto-ryu school, while the middle and lower levels were carved with cherry blossom patterns. The crest of the Shinguji family.
Entering the main hall, one finds everything spotless. Numerous flowers bloom on either side, along with various bonsai trees. In the center stands a suite of tables and armchairs made of catalpa wood, each piece exquisitely crafted, the components seamlessly joined as if carved from a single piece of wood. Marble inlays adorn the backs and sides of the chairs, their lines clear, rounded, elegant, and beautiful.
After taking his seat, a maidservant served tea. Ren Xiaoyao lifted the lid, and a fragrant aroma wafted out. The tea leaves were a vibrant green, and he exclaimed with delight, "Judging by the shape of these tea leaves, they must be top-quality pre-Qingming Longjing… Hmm, it's been almost a year since I've had any since leaving the main headquarters. To be able to enjoy such a treat today, I must properly thank Senior Hua later." Just
then, a maid brought out a lacquered tray, presenting eight kinds of delicate pastries. The white porcelain dish contained pine nut candy, small walnut cakes, walnut slices, rose cakes, candied almonds, mung bean cakes, lily pastries, and osmanthus-flavored candied bayberries—all Suzhou-style pastries, exquisitely delicate, and something Ren Xiaoyao hadn't tasted since arriving in Japan.
A short while later, light footsteps sounded from the back room, and the two quickly stood up to greet them.
Surrounded by several beautiful maids, Hua Shijun slowly entered the main hall. The moment Ren Xiaoyao saw her, he immediately understood why Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan would rather remain unmarried for life, determined to fulfill their vow from thirty years ago.
She had eyebrows like spring mountains and eyes like autumn waters. She wore a silk kimono adorned with countless shimmering pearls, shining brilliantly. Two crystal-clear pearls dangled from her earrings. Her cloud-like hair was styled into a high bun, swaying slightly to one side, adding to her feminine charm. A golden hairpin shimmered in the center of her hair. Her beauty and charm almost overshadowed her daughter standing nearby, yet her demeanor was dignified, exuding an innate noble and graceful air, a kind of awe-inspiring and unapproachable air of nobility.
Thanks to her excellent maintenance, she looked much younger than her actual age, appearing to be in her thirties from afar. Only upon closer inspection could one notice the faint wrinkles around her eyes, yet these did not diminish her beauty. Her flawless, snow-white skin made even the most breathtaking scenery around her pale in comparison. Most striking was her straight nose, perfectly proportioned to her slightly high cheekbones, and her beautiful eyes, brimming with a melancholic and graceful expression, hinted at a touch of sadness.
Even Murong Ruorong, the wife of Nangong Bubai, Dugu Hong, the mother of Lin Yuxiu, and Yin Shuangshuang, the wife of Tang Yunhe, were once among the most beautiful women in the martial arts world, but compared to the woman before them, Hua Shijun, they all paled in comparison.

Volume 36, Chapter 2: Mother-in-Law Refuses Marriage . Ren

Xiaoyao took a deep breath, struggling to calm himself. Just as he was about to bow in respect, Hua Shijun preemptively asked, "Are you the young man who protected Mina along the way, escorting her from Tottori all the way to Hueco Mundo?"
Shinguji Mina, holding Hua Shijun's right arm, said sweetly, "Yes, Mother. If it weren't for Xiaoyao, I would have fallen into the hands of those bastards in Iga Valley long ago."
Hua Shijun revealed a loving and tender maternal expression, unable to resist reaching out to stroke her lovely face. Her face was full of joy, but she pretended to scold, saying, "You, you've been gone for months at a time. I was so worried that something might happen to you. In the future, take more team members with you on missions, understand?" Her voice had a clear and crisp beauty, reaching Ren Xiaoyao's ears. Perhaps due to his unusually sharp senses, it seemed like a whisper rippling on a flowing river, carrying her heavy maternal love and her weariness and indifference towards the martial world.
"Yes, Mother, I understand. I will definitely pay attention next time." Shinguji Mina readily agreed, her delicate beauty captivating.
"Master Ren has gone to great lengths for Mina. As her mother, I should truly thank you." Hua Shijun smiled as she sized up Ren Xiaoyao, her expression somewhat like a mother-in-law looking at her son-in-law.
"Not at all, protecting Mina is my duty as a junior." Ren Xiaoyao returned the smile.
Hua Shijun gestured for Ren Xiaoyao to sit down, asking about his basic information, such as his age, lineage, and martial arts background. Of course, she also inquired about his purpose in coming to Japan.
Ren Xiaoyao was well-prepared, answering all questions flawlessly. He showed no arrogance when mentioning his dual roles as the leader of the Heavenly Pole Sect and the Champion Marquis, nor did he appear unnatural when discussing the upcoming trade treaty. He diligently cultivated the perfect image of a good son-in-law.
Throughout, Hua Shijun's words were very amiable. Compared to Zhen Gongji Longxuan's "test of strength" upon first meeting, her attitude was noticeably gentler. However, her words revealed a hint of melancholy and resentment, along with a touch of sadness. It seemed that the blame and difficulties imposed on her by her elders were indeed putting a lot of pressure on her.
Strangely, although Zhen Gongji Mina had told him that her mother missed her homeland and often mentioned her two former junior brothers, Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan, she didn't even ask about them after chatting with Hua Shijun for a while. Whenever Ren Xiaoyao deliberately steered the conversation in that direction, she would intentionally avoid it, as if she simply didn't want to talk about anything from the past.
Perhaps because she hadn't seen her mother for a long time, Mina Shinguji, unlike her usual aloof and noble self, displayed a naive and innocent side, saying sweetly, "Mother, stop asking so many questions, let's talk about something else."
Hanashi-kun nodded, her gaze suddenly sharpening as she looked at Ren Xiaoyao, her tone as calm as a still well. "Can you give up everything you have in the Central Plains for Mina and settle down in Japan?"
"Mother, how could you…"
"Let him answer!" Hanashi-kun's face hardened, her phoenix eyes radiating authority without anger.
"I…I…" Ren Xiaoyao was taken aback by Hanashi-kun's sudden change in attitude, stammering and unable to muster any of his usual quick wit.
"Say it, can you or can't you?" Hanashi-kun continued to press, her voice not intentionally raised, yet Ren Xiaoyao felt an oppressive pressure emanating from within, leaving him no room to hide.
"I…I can't!" Ren Xiaoyao couldn't shirk his responsibility and had no choice but to answer truthfully.
"If you can't even do this, what makes you think you can give Mina happiness?" Hua Shijun's tone turned cold as she spoke.
"What...what do you mean?!" Ren Xiaoyao felt as if she could see right through him, her every thought laid bare. All the strategies he had rehearsed before were useless. He stammered, "I promise, I will love Mina with all my heart, just like the Shinguji Sect Master loved you, Madam."
"What, you also want to build a Chunhe Palace for Mina?" Hua Shijun looked at Ren Xiaoyao with a half-smile, her words carrying a chilling calmness.
"No, in my heart, Mina is a celestial being. How can she be defiled with worldly things? I want to learn from the Shinguji Sect Master's deep affection, willing to defy his family for the sake of his beloved..." He stopped mid-sentence when he caught a glimpse of sorrow in Hua Shijun's eyes. Realizing he had touched a sore spot, he quickly fell silent.
"Is that so? You can be as faithful to me as Long Xuan?" Hua Shijun sighed softly, then regained her elegant and dignified demeanor, casually asking a question that left Ren Xiaoyao speechless.
“Mother, Xiaoyao isn’t the kind of heartless, fickle man who starts something and then abandons it,” Mina Shinguji said, seizing the opportunity to speak up for Ren Xiaoyao. “Although he has many girls around him, he has never mistreated me or any of them. The sisters all have a good relationship with each other, and they all genuinely love Xiaoyao.”
“Everyone? Hmph, it seems Yoruichi wasn’t lying to me. You really are a charming and philandering man, falling in love with every girl you meet, even bringing them with you to Japan.” Hanashi-kun’s beautiful eyes sharpened again, a hint of mockery in her jade-like face. “How can I entrust Mina to you with such a promiscuous man?”
Hearing this, Ren Xiaoyao suddenly stood up, abandoning his usual elegant and refined demeanor. His hands were clenched tightly, veins bulging on his forehead, and his chest heaving rapidly, seemingly overwhelmed by Hanashi-kun’s repeated harassment and overflowing with anger.
The ANBU guards at the door, hearing the commotion, rushed in and surrounded Ren Xiaoyao.
"Get out, this is none of your business." Hua Shijun, unconcerned by Ren Xiaoyao's sudden, unannounced action, waved for the ANBU to leave.
"Madam, this…" the ANBU leader hesitated. Ren Xiaoyao's reputation had already spread throughout Japan; if he were truly angered, how could the "weak and powerless" Madam possibly defend herself?
"Didn't you hear what Mother said?" Shinguji Mina walked up to the ANBU and said calmly. She then gave Ren Xiaoyao a reproachful look. She knew Ren Xiaoyao would never "take action" just because he couldn't argue with his mother, so his sudden standing up must have been for another reason. Besides, with her mother's martial arts skills, she didn't need anyone's protection.
"Wait, it's good to have a few more brothers witness this." Ren Xiaoyao smiled unexpectedly, smoothed his hair at the back of his head with his left hand, and with a swift motion of his right hand, he cut off a large clump of hair. As everyone stared in disbelief, he declared loudly, "Ren Xiaoyao swears to the heavens that if he ever abandons Zhen Gongsi after starting something, and betrays her, he will be struck by lightning and die without a burial place. Today, I cut off my hair in place of my head to show my resolve!"
Both Hua Shijun and the mother and daughter, Shinguji Mina, were shocked. Hua Shijun's calm demeanor changed, and she stared in astonishment at Ren Xiaoyao. The daughter's beautiful face revealed an undisguised, breathtaking surprise; two blushes rose on her cheeks, making her elegant demeanor even more exquisite. Her heart pounded, and she was speechless for a moment.
At that time, people firmly believed that "our bodies and hair are given to us by our parents," and they dared not easily damage even a single hair. Ren Xiaoyao, to demonstrate his unwavering devotion to Shinguji Mina, was willing to make a solemn vow, even cutting off his hair as a substitute for his head. In that era of male dominance and the lack of social status for women, no one dared to imagine, much less act. After all, in the eyes of almost all men, women were merely their appendages and playthings, not worth sacrificing for. Yet Ren Xiaoyao, this young hero in a high position, whose every action was a model for the world, was willing to swear an oath with his life to guarantee his fidelity to Shinguji Mina!
Hua Shijun met his resolute gaze, looked at him deeply, and sighed softly, "Your persistence moves me, and I must admit that there is no one in the world more suitable to be Mina's husband than you, but..." At this point, she suddenly changed the subject, saying as if to say something earth-shattering, "But I still cannot marry Mina to you."
"Why!?" Ren Xiaoyao exclaimed in surprise.
“Because…” Hua Shijun sighed softly, her deep eyes replaced by a complex and unfathomable expression, as if she were trapped in memories that tormented her soul. “Because I am a woman who married into a foreign country, and I know the pain of leaving one’s homeland. Although I have no relatives left in the Central Plains, and Long Xuan has treated me with immeasurable kindness, every time the night is deep and quiet, I always think of the beautiful Jiangnan region—the land that gave me birth, nurtured me, and raised me. Every Mid-Autumn Festival, Double Ninth Festival, and Lantern Festival, these festivals of joy and reunion, the longing in my heart grows stronger every day, tormenting me like a knife twisting in my heart. I long to return to the Central Plains, to go back to the innocent and carefree days of my childhood, to go back to savor the fragrance of my hometown soil, but I cannot leave Long Xuan, I cannot leave Long Xuan who loves me deeply, and Long Xuan cannot leave the Xu Ye Palace he built with his own hands, nor can he leave the Hokushin Itto-ryu he has painstakingly led.”
“Mother…” Shinguji Mina’s delicate body trembled, and two lines of clear tears slid down her cheeks.
"For thirty years, I've been tormented by homesickness, yet I can't confide my feelings to anyone. Because I am the wife of the leader of one of the seven major sects, every action I take is a model for women of Japan. But even the slightest mistake would not only tarnish Long Xuan's reputation but also affect the absolute authority of the Hokushin Ittō-ryū in the ninjutsu world." A bitter smile appeared on Hua Shijun's lips as she apologetically said, "If you weren't the leader of the Tianji Sect and the Champion Marquis, I would entrust Mina to you without hesitation. However, the burden you bear is no less than Long Xuan's. Mina marrying you will only..." "To become the second me, the second woman to suffer the pangs of homesickness for her husband without finding solace."
Hua Shijun tenderly stroked her daughter's trembling back, her eyes filled with guilt as she looked at Ren Xiaoyao. Her lips trembled several times before she managed to speak, "As a mother, I cannot bear to see the tragedy that caused me such unbearable pain repeat itself in my daughter, so… so I will never agree to your marriage."

Volume 36, Chapter 3: A Heartbreaking Plea for Love.

Shinguji Mina cried out, throwing herself into her mother's arms, weakly opening her beautiful eyes, tears streaming down her face.
Ren Xiaoyao's eyes were also slightly red, unable to speak for a long time.
He had lost both parents at a young age, and it was thanks to Meng Fei's care that he had grown up. Although the Four Sages of Qin, Qi, Shu, Hua (a family of four renowned scholars) doted on him like a grandson, they had never known what maternal love was. Today, in this magnificent Chunhe Palace, he finally understood from the bottom of his heart the selflessness and greatness of maternal love.
Hua Shijun hugged his daughter tightly, a tear sliding down her cheek. The tear quickly subsided, and she regained her usual noble and dignified composure, her jade-like face as still as water, beautiful as a pure white lotus. She said softly, "I am very grateful to Master Ren for everything he has done for Mina. I know that with Master Ren's status and position, he doesn't care about any form of repayment. But since I cannot make Mina your wife, I should offer..."
Ren Xiaoyao interrupted, "This junior has no other requests, only that you answer one question for me, Madam."
Hua Shijun asked in surprise, "What question?"
"Xiaoyao, don't..." Zhen Gongji Mina thought her lover had truly given up on proposing to her mother, her pretty face flushed red with anxiety, her heart pounding, and she kept giving him meaningful glances.
Ren Xiaoyao, seemingly oblivious, slowly said, "If one day, Prince Tonghu, Fujiwara no Michitaka, Kubo Kousuke, and others are all brought to justice, and the Japanese martial arts world is pacified, and the head of the Shinguji sect is willing to relinquish his position as sect leader to accompany you back to the Central Plains, would you agree? Would you forgive the Shinguji sect leader for all the wrongs he caused you in the past due to his busy affairs with the sect?" Having said this, he knelt down, adopting an attitude of utmost respect and attentive listening, awaiting Hua Shijun's answer.
"Yes, of course I would." Hua Shijun looked down at him, her eyes filled with complex and intense emotions, and slowly nodded.
"I don't believe it. I don't believe that thirty years of regret can be resolved overnight."
"Don't you understand, Master Ren? As long as two people truly love each other, nothing else matters. Even the estrangement accumulated over the years can dissolve in the moment when one selflessly gives to the other, and their hearts merge..." He suddenly stopped mid-sentence, his eyes becoming complex, seemingly containing countless emotions hidden deep within. Staring at Ren Xiaoyao, he exclaimed in surprise, "You...you're trying to trick me!"
Ren Xiaoyao stood up abruptly, his flawless face turning solemn. His eyes, shining like the brightest star in the darkest night sky, were filled with unwavering determination. "Mei Nai truly loves me. Although I cannot abandon my responsibilities now, and can only take Mei Nai to the Central Plains, letting her endure the pain of leaving her home and being separated from her family, one day I will quell the conflicts in the martial world and eliminate the threats from the borders." "Leaving aside all worldly affairs, I'll accompany her back to Japan and make up for her longing for her hometown and family." He walked to Shinguji Mina's side, taking her delicate, exquisitely sculpted hand. "If Madam can forgive the Shinguji Sect Leader, I believe Mina can forgive me too. Of course, I won't make Mina wait thirty years. I only ask her to wait three years. After three years, I will do everything I can to make up for all the debts and guilt I've incurred for her over these thousand days and nights!"
Shinguji Mina shed tears again, turning and throwing herself into Ren Xiaoyao's arms. She reached out a trembling hand to his face, pressing her cheek against his chest, sobbing, "Don't say anymore... don't say any more. Since Mother won't agree to our relationship, you should leave quickly. If you continue, Mina will be heartbroken."
"No, I must say it! For your lifelong happiness, I must say it." Ren Xiaoyao gently pushed away Shinguji Mina, then knelt before Hua Shijun with both knees bent, like a mountain collapsing and a jade pillar falling. He kowtowed three times, and when he raised his head, blood was seeping from his forehead. He choked out, "Please, Madam, grant me permission to marry Mina." "
Mother, please, please don't make things difficult for Xiaoyao anymore." Shinguji Mina knelt down beside him.
Looking at the resolute Ren Xiaoyao and her daughter, who was already in tears, Hua Shijun knew that even a thousand oxen couldn't pull apart this couple whose true feelings were revealed. A helpless smile crossed her jade face, and she sighed softly, "Alright, I will consider your matter, but the final answer can only be decided after this turmoil has completely subsided." In fact, she had already tacitly approved of her daughter's marriage to Ren Xiaoyao, so she proposed to postpone the answer, only wanting to use the power of the "Heavenly Extreme Sect Masters" to help the Beichen Itto-ryu fight against Prince Tonghu's side.
"Thank you for your kindness, Madam. I will do my utmost to receive your reply as soon as possible." Ren Xiaoyao bowed again. Putting aside his relationship with Shinguji Mina, if Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan knew of Shinguji Ryuu's deep affection for Hua Shijun, the two elders would be doing themselves a disservice if they didn't destroy Iga Valley, given their thirty years of misunderstanding and resentment.
"Alright, you can go back now. Mina and I have some private things to discuss." Hua Shijun glanced at Ren Xiaoyao with a flirtatious look, much like a mother-in-law looking at her son-in-law, growing more and more fond of him with each glance
. Ren Xiaoyao stood up, reluctantly bidding farewell to Shinguji Mina. Her pretty face, still wet with tears, showed a mixture of joy and shyness, so captivating that he almost lost track of time.
Just as he was about to step out of the palace gate, a gentle voice called out from behind, "Wait!"
Ren Xiaoyao turned around gracefully and asked, "Is there anything else, Madam?"
"You've come from the Central Plains, you should have heard of the names Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan, right?" The question was expected, but the timing was unexpected. Her voice was gentle and soft, perfectly matching her demeanor.
"Of course I have. Seniors Yi and Fu are outstanding figures, ranking fifth and sixth among the eight great masters of the Central Plains martial arts world. I have admired them immensely since I was old enough to understand."
"Then... have you ever met them? I heard that they went into seclusion after the Battle of Wuyun Mountain more than twenty years ago, and their whereabouts are unknown. I've sent people to inquire several times, but there's been no news." Hearing "ranked fifth and sixth," a faint smile appeared on Hua Shijun's beautiful face, which could take anyone's breath away, but it was quickly replaced by a sad expression.
"I have met them." Ren Xiaoyao had no reason to hide this.
"Really! Are they... are they alright?" Hua Shijun's beautiful eyes lit up, revealing an expectant look.
"Both elders are in good health, and their martial arts are as strong as ever," Ren Xiaoyao said, observing Hua Shijun's changing expression. "Xiaoyao owes much of his current cultivation to their guidance and support."
"What? You learned the martial arts of the Palm Sword Unparalleled Sect? They taught you..." Hua Shijun suddenly became excited, but stopped abruptly, realizing her inappropriate behavior.
"Palm Sword Unparalleled Sect? Mother, is that the sect you joined before marrying Father?" Hua Shijun interjected.
"Ah...no, no..." Hua Shijun suddenly panicked, waving Ren Xiaoyao away. Ren Xiaoyao, though unwilling to stop there, couldn't disobey his future "mother-in-law's" wishes and obediently left.

Stepping out of Chunhe Palace, the heavy weight on Ren Xiaoyao's heart finally lifted.
From the moment he entered the mountain, his mouth hadn't stopped. Fortunately, he passed two tests: winning the approval of Shinguji Ryuugen and getting past Hua Shijun. He also learned that she cared about her two senior brothers to some extent. Overall, it was a worthwhile trip, and he could report back to Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan.
However, a problem arose immediately. When he came from Guanlan Pavilion, he was so busy talking to Shinguji Mina that he didn't pay attention to the surrounding path. Xuye Palace was built against the mountain and was magnificent, with no less than a thousand buildings and pavilions. He became dizzy and disoriented after only a few steps, unable to distinguish east from west. Ren Xiaoyao was
also a person who cared about his reputation, so he couldn't just ask any disciple for directions. He wanted to climb onto the roof to get a clear view, but the surrounding area was full of ANBU (Anti-Secret Army), so he could only wander around aimlessly.
As he walked, he came to a quiet and elegant pavilion. From afar, he could see the plaque above the main entrance inscribed with the four characters "Mirror Flower, Water Moon," with a small "five" in the middle.
"Is this the Fifth Squad's residence? Why such a strange name?" Ren Xiaoyao frowned slightly. Just as he was about to return the way he came, he suddenly heard several faint, fragmented voices coming from inside the pavilion: "This morning... went out... and... inquired... waiting for what?" "Nothing... what... to confirm?" "Heavenly gift... missed... where else..." The speaker deliberately lowered his voice, and even with his superb hearing, he couldn't hear it clearly.
"It sounds like there are only three people inside. I might as well ask for directions." Ren Xiaoyao's mind stirred, and he stepped forward, not paying much attention to the fragmented words he had just heard.
"Who's there!" Just as he reached the door, a loud shout suddenly came from inside.
"Whoosh—" Before Ren Xiaoyao could answer, two cold stars shot out, whistling as they struck his face.

Volume 36, Chapter 4: A Profound Affection (

No update yesterday, making up for today).
Hidden weapons are fast, vicious, and accurate, launched suddenly without warning, requiring the weapon to pierce through paper-covered windows to discern its direction. Dodging them is extremely difficult; at most only one in a hundred can avoid them.
Ren Xiaoyao was not one of them, as he easily deflected the hidden weapon with a flick of his finger.
"How dare you trespass on the Fifth Division's secret society!" A middle-aged man rushed out, shouting angrily. This man's appearance was quite peculiar; although angry, his smile remained undiminished. Ren Xiaoyao looked at him in astonishment; it turned out his lips were upturned, his eyes narrowed, likely indicating he was crying sadly, but to onlookers he appeared to be smiling.
"Oh, I..." Ren Xiaoyao realized he had mistakenly trespassed into forbidden territory and was immediately embarrassed.
"Yin, you're too reckless. Master Ren is a distinguished guest of the Sect Leader and his wife; he can go anywhere within the Xu Ye Palace." Amidst a light laugh, a man emerged from the restaurant. He was about thirty-seven or thirty-eight years old, with a healthy blush on his fair, youthful face. His jet-black hair was tied in a white bun. He had distinct features, a refined and cultured demeanor, and a striking yet intelligent air. His long, narrow face, as perfect as a marble statue, wore a radiant smile. On the surface, he appeared to be a frail scholar, but Ren Xiaoyao could tell from his gleaming eyes that he was definitely a top-tier expert, with a resolute and stubborn personality, unlikely to be swayed by others.
"Is that so? My apologies for not recognizing you, my apologies!" The middle-aged man, addressed as "Yin," laughed heartily and bowed.
"Fifth Division Captain Aizen Sousuke, Third Division Captain Ichimaru Gin?" Ren Xiaoyao was taken aback.
Before coming to Hueco Mundo, Mina Shinguji had given him a detailed description of the captains and vice-captains of each division to avoid any awkwardness upon meeting. The
fifth division captain, Sosuke Aizen, was Shinguji Ryuken's top disciple and his most trusted confidant. Not only had he mastered all of Aizen's martial arts, but he had also traveled throughout Hokkaido, Shikoku, and Kyushu, visiting twenty-seven different ninjutsu schools without encountering a worthy opponent.
His strategic acumen was also exceptional, making him arguably the most accomplished of the thirteen guards of the palace, skilled in both martial arts and strategy.
The third division captain, Gin Ichimaru, nicknamed "The Smile That Hides a Dagger," possessed unparalleled espionage and assassination skills in Japan. He always greeted everyone and everything with a smile, even his enemies, making it impossible to read his mind or detect the murderous intent hidden behind his smile.
"I heard from Hinamori (Momo) that Master Ren accompanied the young lady to the madam's place. How come... Oh, the madam and the young lady must have something to say privately, which is why Master Ren came out alone." Aizen Sousuke's voice was polite and magnetic. If Ren Xiaoyao hadn't possessed unparalleled keen intuition, knowing that he possessed inexhaustible and unfathomable profound power, he would never have believed that this refined, humble, and scholarly-looking middle-aged man was a master in the Thirteenth Division, second only to Kenpachi Zaraki and Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto.
"Yes, I wanted to see the sights of Hueco Mundo, and before I knew it, I was here. If I have offended anyone, please forgive me." Ren Xiaoyao only wanted to ask a teammate where the palace gate was in private, so how could he admit to being lost in front of the two captains? He simply made up a story based on Aizen Sousuke's words.
"It's alright, it's alright. Ren Xiaoyao is one of us, there's nothing to hide." Ichimaru Gin's anger subsided, and he said with a smile.
"The two captains were having a secret conversation in the forbidden area, they must have been discussing something important. Xiaoyao was just strolling over and only reached the entrance, so he didn't hear anything." Ren Xiaoyao was a smart man, and naturally knew what to say at this time.
Aizen Sousuke and Ichimaru Gin exchanged glances. The former looked at Ren Xiaoyao and smiled leisurely, "Although we have only just met Leader Ren, we feel an instant connection. We wonder if we could ask you for a small favor."
Ren Xiaoyao thought to himself, "It should be you helping me get out." But he didn't show it on his face and said casually, "Captain Aizen, please speak freely. I will do my best to help."
A fleeting look of delight crossed Aizen Sousuke's face. He stepped forward and leaned close to Ren Xiaoyao's ear, lowering his voice to say, "Whatever you heard, saw, or didn't hear or see just now, please forget it. Just pretend you left Chunhe Palace and went somewhere else, and that you never came to Jinghua Shuiyue Pavilion at all." Upon
hearing this, Ren Xiaoyao became puzzled. He had only overheard a few fragmented words of Aizen Sousuke and Ichimaru Gin's conversation in Shuiyue Pavilion, and even if he were to tell outsiders, he wouldn't be able to reveal anything. But judging from their expressions and demeanor now, they seemed very nervous, as if they were afraid of revealing the contents of their conversation.
Seeing Ren Xiaoyao remain silent, Aizen Sousuke suddenly stepped forward, leaned close to his ear, and whispered, "To be honest, I recently received information that someone in the 13th Division is secretly colluding with Iga Valley, plotting to assassinate the Third Prince and overthrow the Hokushin Itto-ryu school. I specifically sought out Ichimaru and me to discuss countermeasures. Because the source of this information is not entirely reliable, and it doesn't specify any particular targets, I urge Master Ren to keep this a secret, lest it spread and alert the enemy."
Ren Xiaoyao asked in surprise, "Is this true? Getting this wrong is no laughing matter."
Ichimaru Gin said in a deep voice ... "It's better to be safe than sorry," said Aizen Sousuke. "Right now is a critical moment for the survival of the Hokushin Itto-ryu. We can't let even the slightest clue slip by."
Aizen Sousuke added, "If it were just ordinary members, we wouldn't be so nervous. But this time, the traitor is very likely a captain-level figure, and not just one, so..."
Ren Xiaoyao was shocked and exclaimed, "What!? This... this is actually true."
Ichimaru Gin smiled bitterly, "Captain Aizen and I don't want to believe it either, so we want to find out the truth as soon as possible."
"If there's anything I can help with, please don't hesitate to ask," Ren Xiaoyao volunteered, unconsciously viewing the situation entirely from the Hokushin Itto-ryu's perspective.
"This..." Aizen Sousuke hesitated for a while before saying, "As far as I know, Master Ren lives in a cabin at the foot of the mountain. It might be inconvenient for him to frequently come to Hueco Mundo to investigate."
"That's true, but investigating spies doesn't necessarily have to be done only on the mountain," Ren Xiaoyao said with a carefree smile.
"Hahaha, Master Ren really gets it right away." Gin Ichimaru lowered his voice, speaking mysteriously, "According to the report from the secret mobile force, the Shiki-ryu ninja have secretly gathered in the city. Given the relationship between Yoshihiro Tomoyuki and Kubo Kousuke, and his ruthless reputation in the ninjutsu world, all the actions of the 'Anti-Hokushin Ittō-ryū' alliance before the Iga Valley group arrives in Nara will inevitably be related to him. Captain Aizen and I are on duty and cannot easily leave the palace. If the other team members go, not only will they not be able to keep an eye on this old ghost, but their lives may also be in danger..."
"Alright, leave Yoshihiro Tomoyuki to me!" Ren Xiaoyao blurted out without thinking.
"Master Ren's righteous assistance is deeply appreciated." Aizen Sōsuke and Gin Ichimaru were both moved by his quick agreement and bowed down.
"Without further ado, I'll go down the mountain now."
"Gin, go see Master Ren off. I have some matters to discuss with the team's captain. Let's arrange a time to talk again tomorrow."
At the Ichimachi Palace, Matsukaze-kaku.
"What! Shinguji Ryuugen really only married Shijun, preferring the Shinguji family line to die out rather than take a concubine?"
"Yes!"
"Shijun endured thirty years of homesickness for him, refusing to return to the Central Plains alone?"
"Yes!" "
The scale and decoration of Chunhe Palace are even more magnificent and luxurious than the Taiji Hall in Xunfeng City?"
"Yes!"
"Nonsense!" Yi Tianhan slammed his hand on the table, making the entire room tremble.
"These are all things I saw and heard with my own eyes and ears, not a single word is false." Ren Xiaoyao had never seen Yi Tianhan so angry, and dared not utter a single word of comfort.
"What do you know! Thirty years ago, Shinguji Ryuugen forcibly abducted Mina. We brothers remember every word and action of that scoundrel, and we still haven't forgotten it to this day." Yi Tianhan almost jumped up excitedly. "He was more ruthless than Guiming Shenjun and Hentian. He was more arrogant and conceited than you... than Ren Qiaocui. It's possible that he was lustful and doted on Shijun, building her a magnificent and luxurious palace. But I absolutely refuse to believe that he would rather the Shinguji family line die out than take a concubine!"
"That's right, the claim that she 'endured thirty years of homesickness and refused to return to the Central Plains alone' is utter nonsense!" Fu Longyuan said indignantly. "We grew up with Shijun since childhood and know her personality best. When our master's wife took her to visit relatives in another place, she cried and begged to go home after only one day. How much more so when she was far away from home, going all the way to Japan. I think it's not that my junior sister didn't want to come back, it's that Shinguji Ryuugen simply wouldn't allow it!"
"Godfather, Uncle Master, please calm down," Su Hanbi gently advised. "Xiaoyao relayed Mina's mother's exact words, he didn't make them up himself."
"The exact words? How do you know that Shijun wasn't forced to say that by Shinguji Ryuuxuan!"
"Being forced won't do any good," Shui Furong muttered softly.
"Of course we did!" Yi Tianhan said coldly. "Back then, we told that scoundrel that one day we would go to Japan and snatch Shijun back from him. The Japanese martial arts world is currently on the verge of collapse. The Hokushin Ittō-ryū is about to go to war with Igagaya, and no one can predict the outcome. If Fu boy and I suddenly appeared and joined the opposing side, Hueco Mundo would surely be wiped out. Shinguji Ryūgen is cunning and calculating. Seeing that you are so young yet have such outstanding martial arts skills, he probably thinks we have some connection. He deliberately forced Shijun to say these things to dissuade us from seeking revenge against him."
"No, I can guarantee that Senior Hua's words came from the bottom of her heart and were not forced..." As Ren Xiaoyao said this, the image of Hua Shijun's beautiful face, which was filled with melancholy and resentment, and the deep affection she showed for Shinguji Ryūgen in her several confessions kept flashing through his mind. He was overwhelmed with emotion and couldn't continue.
"How old are you, kid? What do you know about women's feelings?!" Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan were both hit where it hurt, and they slammed their fists on the table and started cursing.

Volume 36, Chapter 5: Ambush in the Street

"Senior, actually..." Ren Xiaoyao wanted to explain, but Long Feiyun tugged at his sleeve, leaned closer, and whispered, "Forget it, the two seniors are in a bad mood right now. The more you explain, the worse it will get."
"If we don't clarify things now, what if the two seniors, in a fit of anger, storm the Void Night Palace..."
"Do you think everyone is like you, so quick to call for violence over a woman?" Long Feiyun rolled her eyes at him, scoldingly, "The two seniors are seasoned veterans. Even if they acted impulsively, they wouldn't do something so foolish. Instead, you, caught in the middle, keep siding with your 'future father-in-law,' which is incredibly annoying."
"I'm right..."
"It's the truth, I know, but you also have to consider the feelings of the two seniors." Long Feiyun's understanding was very much like Nangong Fengyi's. "After all, this is a thirty-year-old grudge, something that has lingered in their hearts for most of their lives. You think you can resolve it with just a few words? You're underestimating their persistence and beliefs."
"Then...what do we do now?"
"You go out first, wait until the two seniors have fallen asleep and come back, so they won't be angry." Long Feiyun leaned close to his ear and whispered softly, "Leave the rest to me."
"You? You have a way to persuade the two seniors?" Long Feiyun was intelligent and quick-witted, and being an outsider, she could see things more clearly. Perhaps she could really persuade Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan to give up their revenge.
"No, this kind of thing is not something outsiders can solve." Long Feiyun shook her head slightly, answering very decisively.
"What!" Ren Xiaoyao was stunned upon hearing this.
“However, I can keep you two quiet for now.” Long Feiyun gestured towards the window and said in a deep voice, “Fortunately, the Hokushin Ittō-ryū has arranged a separate courtyard for us, otherwise, if outsiders heard such a loud noise, who knows what kind of trouble it would cause—alright, you should leave now, don’t stay here and make the senior angry.”
“Okay, then…” Ren Xiaoyao hadn’t finished speaking when Long Feiyun pushed and shoved him out.
Stepping out of the city gate, Ren Xiaoyao looked up and saw that the moon was only half-risen, knowing that he would have to wander around outside for at least two or three hours. He had just “reported” to Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan on an empty stomach, thinking that he could eat his fill afterward, but he didn’t expect to end up like this. He had no choice but to find a place to satisfy his hunger first.
He was not one to waste time. Since he couldn’t return to Matsukaze-gaku for the time being, he might as well take this opportunity to go to the Seiki-ryū residence that Aizen Sōsuke and Ichimaru Gin had told him about to investigate the situation.
Logically, Ren Xiaoyao, injured, shouldn't have taken such a risk. However, his undefeated record since arriving in Japan had inflated his confidence to an excessive degree, making him completely disregard everything. Although his battle with Kenpachi Zaraki brought him to his senses, Shinguji Ryuu's high praise had elevated him to the heavens. "
Just Yoshihiro Michiyuki?" he thought. "With Ren Xiaoyao's current martial arts skills, I don't even consider him a threat. Even if something unexpected happens, if I can't win, I can always escape."
Nara, after all, was a premier metropolis in Japan. The nights were filled with joy and hustle and bustle. Houses stood side by side, their roofs high and imposing, a breathtaking sight. The streets were bustling with carriages and horses, and crowds of people—a vibrant scene of a prosperous metropolis.
The house where the Shiki-ryu were gathered was just ahead, and a sushi restaurant was conveniently located a short distance to the left. Ren Xiaoyao decided to go there first to fill his stomach and inquire with the staff about any recent unusual activity.
Just then, a burst of children's joyful shouts came from the left. Ren Xiaoyao looked in the direction of the sound and saw a group of about a dozen children, around seven or eight years old, playing together. They carried toys like windmills and rattles, or sweets and snacks, weaving and chasing each other through the crowd, laughing and playing as they approached him.
Looking at the innocent and carefree children, Ren Xiaoyao couldn't help but feel a pang of emotion. On the surface, Nara seemed to be in a state of joy and peace, but behind this prosperous scene lurked endless danger.
The Emperor was already terminally ill, and the struggle for the Crown Prince was a ready-made battle for the throne. As the territory of the Hokushin Ittō-ryū, it was destined to be engulfed in war. Regardless of which side won, the people of the city would inevitably be affected, and even the entire city of Nara would be destroyed in the full-scale clash between the two powers.
He had to help the Hokushin Ittō-ryū stop this catastrophe and achieve victory with minimal losses.
Ren Xiaoyao took a deep breath, barely managing to calm his mind. The children had already run up to him. One little girl, dressed in a purple kimono and with pigtails, hid behind him, letting out a bright, innocent laugh. She grabbed the back of his sleeve, panting, and laughed, "Come on, you can't catch me! You can't catch me!" The other children swarmed around him, chasing and weaving, constantly tugging at his clothes.
Ren Xiaoyao felt increasingly moved, gently stroking the children's foreheads with affection. At that moment, an indescribable feeling welled up inside him.
He couldn't quite put his finger on what he sensed, but he felt very uncomfortable, as if an invisible pressure was affecting his tranquil state of mind.
His innate supreme qi automatically rose to its limit, and his ears immediately picked up every subtle sound within a ten-foot radius, even the crawling of insects and ants.
Several men squeezed through the crowd at the front, rushing towards him. At the same time, two other experts were rapidly approaching from behind, while others closed in from the left and right, their killing intent suddenly intensifying.
Ren Xiaoyao, a veteran of countless battles and possessing numerous unique skills, even when surrounded outside Xunfeng City and facing tens of thousands of Liao soldiers single-handedly, could have preemptively launched a defensive maneuver to ensure his own safety.
But now, he was surrounded by more than a dozen innocent children, completely blocking his movement. Even leaping or dodging would injure the children.
In a flash, the attackers had arrived.
The three men at the front drew weapons hidden beneath their robes, ignoring the children's safety, and attacked him directly. The flashing blades were like deadly demons, giving him no chance to breathe. The events unfolded too suddenly and swiftly. The surrounding pedestrians, confused by what was happening, instinctively scattered upon seeing the attackers draw their swords, making the situation even more chaotic.
Ren Xiaoyao immediately realized he had fallen into a carefully laid trap. They first used despicable means to lure the children, getting them to play around them, and then launched an attack from all sides. Sensing the impending danger, the children naturally huddled in his arms or clung to him for protection, making him even more powerless and causing him to groan inwardly.
Three gleaming samurai swords slashed forward in a triangular formation towards Ren Xiaoyao. The first sword, following an arc from the front, aimed straight for his face, its chilling aura enveloping several feet around him, stinging his face.
The other two swords were aimed at his shoulders, aiming to incapacitate him in one strike.
A skilled hand can tell at a glance; these three were definitely at the Jonin level!
If there were no obstacles, Ren Xiaoyao could easily evade them with a simple "Crossing the River on a Reed," but the problem was that both his legs were being held by the children. Unless he had the heart to injure them, escape was impossible.
Of course, Ren Xiaoyao's hands were still mobile. Although the swordsmanship of the three ninjas before him had reached the level of first-rate masters, they still couldn't harm him even a hair. The problem was that there were daggers attacking from both sides and two longswords thrusting towards his back from behind—the blades were still a foot away from him, but his entire back felt like it was immersed in frozen water, which showed that these two were also Jonin level, and none of them were easy to deal with.
The Ice Soul Frost Sword hanging at his waist had long been held by the child, so if he wanted to fight, he could only rely on his bare hands. With the profound power of his innate supreme qi, combined with any move of the Eighteen Subduing Dragon Palms, the Heaven-Defying Divine Palm, or the Great Vajra Palm, he could easily knock everyone back, but he couldn't, because if he did, the children would surely die.
So what about using the Nine Revolutions Returning to Origin Force to deflect the enemy's attacks or the Free and Unfettered Palm to deflect the force?
No, still no—he wasn't confident that he could handle seven weapons at the same time with perfect precision. Even if the blade or the sword was slightly off-center, the children would suffer.
So he could only endure it, endure the fierce attacks of his opponents.
How wonderful it would be to wear the Vast Snow-Treading Armor at this moment! No matter how much you slash, hack, slice, or stab, I would remain unharmed. Yet, having already suffered two major losses because of this, Ren Xiaoyao still hadn't learned his lesson.
He was a genius, but not a genius who knew everything. At least, he hadn't learned any of the defensive martial arts like the Golden Bell Cover, Iron Shirt, or Thirteen Bodyguards' External Training; he relied solely on his protective inner strength.
This was the first time Ren Xiaoyao had faced such a situation since his debut. He sighed inwardly and gathered all his inner strength at the point where he would be stabbed.
Dugu Yu praised the Innate Supreme Qi as the number one divine
skill in the world, not only for its super explosive power and endurance, but also for its unparalleled defensive power. If it only protected a few parts of the body, even the Shaolin Temple's world-renowned Vajra Indestructible Body Divine Skill would be no better—this was also why Ren Xiaoyao had been stubbornly refusing to wear the Vast Snow-Treading Armor.
Children, it's the children who are ruining things again!
The seven weapons suddenly moved down from where Ren Xiaoyao was still, stabbing towards the vulnerable children.
The children, who had never witnessed such a scene before, burst into tears. One collapsed in front of him, another clung to him in terror, and yet another rolled to his left. Two others tugged at the hem of his robe from behind.
Ren Xiaoyao was helpless; he could only pull the children forward, falling straight down to temporarily escape the fierce attack. "Bang—" As Ren Xiaoyao fell to the ground, he swiftly twisted, turning to face up, and swung his hands, simultaneously striking the incoming blade and forcefully shoving the three away, attempting to buy himself a moment to catch his breath.
But his opponent gave him no chance to breathe. In the blink of an eye, a storm of blades swept in like a whirlwind, and two poisoned daggers with red-hot tips were instantly thrust at his cheeks.
A vicious opponent closing in from behind swiftly swung his sword, aiming for his waist. If struck, he'd never be a man again. With a roar, the opponent charged like a whirlwind, unleashing a devastating attack, as fierce and unstoppable as thunder.
Even his supreme innate qi might not be enough to withstand such a blow. The three men he had just forced back lunged back, two wielding their blades, aiming for his neck and left ribs, while the last ninja thrust straight at his chest.
In an instant, the two were trapped in a hopeless situation, unable to advance or retreat. Most horrifyingly, even if he managed to escape, none of the innocent children caught in the crossfire would survive.
Ren Xiaoyao tried to block the attack, but his arms were tightly held by the panicked children. Despite possessing a thousand martial arts skills, he couldn't use any of them. (

Chapter 6 of Volume 36: Severely Injured

) The enemy's operation was meticulously planned, as if they had anticipated Ren Xiaoyao's arrival. They had pre-planned a vicious scheme to incite the children to play, and while the innocent children frolicked around him, the enemy, relocated to a strategic position, launched a lightning-fast surprise attack, aiming to kill him in one fell swoop.
He had only decided to come here to investigate on short notice, so why was his whereabouts completely known to the enemy?
Ren Xiaoyao had no time to think about this, because he had to find a way to save his own life and the children's.
With his hands and feet immobile, what could he rely on to survive?
External assistance? Impossible. The members of the Thirteenth Division were all at Hueco Mundo; the Anbu and the Covert Mobile Force also had their own missions; his seniors were either sulking or practicing, and the women were all busy with their own affairs—they couldn't possibly suddenly appear here to help him escape his predicament.
Therefore, he could only rely on himself, on his own strength.
Although his hands and feet were temporarily immobile, he still had his mouth.
Ren Xiaoyao roared, activating his divine skill—the infallible Shaolin martial art, the Vajra Lion's Roar.
He didn't possess Master Xiaochen's ability to effortlessly manipulate the sound waves infused with internal energy to attack a single opponent, but he could barely control the roar to the upper left side of his body, more than enough to deal with close-range attacks.
To ensure the children's absolute safety, he made two preparations: first, to keep the roar as low as possible to avoid accidentally injuring the children nearby; second, as the roar was emitted, his outer robe ripped apart, carrying immense innate true energy that roared towards the enemy.
Due to various concerns, he couldn't unleash his full power in his attack; therefore, even if he could repel the opponent, he would undoubtedly be injured. He only hoped to injure them without killing them, and to save the children from great harm.
The two ninjas wielding daggers were closest to him. The Lion's Roar sent a jolt through their bodies; they groaned and stumbled backward. Then, the three swordsmen in front of him were also struck by his tattered robes and tumbled to the ground. The true energy that had seeped into their bodies through the robes was the culmination of Ren Xiaoyao's life's work—not easily endured. But the swordsmen attacking from behind were far more powerful and their attacks more skillful than Ren Xiaoyao had anticipated. The instant the roar was uttered, they leaped up simultaneously, flying above him. Their longswords, unchanged, slashed downwards, aiming straight for his crown chakra—though they were dressed in unremarkable commoner's clothes, Ren Xiaoyao recognized them instantly as the ruthless and vicious men he had met at the office at noon, the trusted confidants of Yoshihiro Tomoyuki. Ren Xiaoyao couldn't free his hands in time, and his legs were useless due to the child's embrace. He could only barely manage to twist his upper body to the right using his waist.
The longsword shifted direction, still pointing straight at the crown of the head, but paused slightly, creating several fleeting openings.
Ren Xiaoyao had been waiting for these tiny gaps!
With a quick hook and pull, he finally managed to draw it out, then grabbed two handfuls of konpeito (Japanese candies) from the children's pockets and hurled them at the two men. Each piece contained a sharp, powerful force, no less potent than iron lotus seeds or coin darts thrown by others. If it struck any vulnerable area like the eyes or nose, blood would instantly splatter everywhere. Even more ingenious was his simultaneous exertion of force with all ten fingers as he withdrew his hands, sending the two children flying back two zhang (approximately 6.6 meters) with a thud, landing on the ground without hindering his movements.
One of the two sword-wielding ninjas, less skilled, hastily dodged to the side, avoiding the "hidden weapon," and then changed his attack; the other continued his attack, relying solely on his breath to blow away the candies, his momentum undiminished.
In a one-on-one fight, what did Ren Xiaoyao have to fear? With a raised hand and a tilted head, he uttered a powerful shout of "Attack!" It was like throwing a icy snowball into a raging battlefield. Even with the ferocity of his opponent, a Jonin, the sudden sound threw him into disarray, as if struck by lightning. His sword grip faltered, and the Jonin's palm strike sent
his weapon flying from his hand. Ren Xiaoyao rarely sought to kill unless the opponent was utterly wicked, but considering their use of children to set a trap, their ruthless methods were appalling. He immediately resolved to kill, deciding to strike first against this strongest Jonin.
He lightly pulled his foot from the pile of children, and with a gentle tap, he soared into the air, his movements swift and elusive as he lunged at the disoriented enemy.
The other ninjas rushed to his aid, flashing blades from all four directions.
At this moment, Ren Xiaoyao was like a tiger among sheep, unstoppable by a few high-ranking ninjas of the World Ghost School. He channeled 40% of his power, forming a protective net around his body based on the Nine Revolutions Returning to Origin Force. No matter how swift the attacks of the six ninjas were, they wouldn't be able to harm him in the slightest for a short time, and he was confident he could take their lives in ten strikes.
Little did he know that the six ninjas' "besieging Wei to rescue Zhao" was a mere feint. They didn't intend to force Ren Xiaoyao to stop and defend himself, nor did they intend to block fatal attacks for their companions. Instead, they simultaneously threw down their weapons, and the latter three struck the backs of the former three, causing them to suddenly accelerate. Before Ren Xiaoyao could even understand their intentions, they grabbed his legs and left hand with an almost rogue-like tactic—the Nine Revolutions Returning to Origin Force is meant to return all attacks, but with the opponent lunging at him, how could he return with only 40% of his power? Even if he did, where could he return it to?
Almost simultaneously, a shadow suddenly loomed overhead, followed by a flash of cold light and a surge of murderous intent. Thousands of blades slanted downwards, a surprise attack on Sun En.
Ren Xiaoyao reacted swiftly, immediately looking up, a strange feeling rising within him.
The opponent was completely shrouded in black clothing, only revealing a pair of eyes radiating endless killing intent, like a ghost emerging from the darkness. Due to its astonishing speed, even someone as discerning as Ren Xiaoyao felt a sense of unreality, as if the opponent had no physical form, merely a phantom.
Ren Xiaoyao then realized that the previous ambush was all a decoy; the real assassin was right before him!
In an instant, the man in black was within five feet of him, his hands moving with unpredictable and mysterious techniques as he attacked. His speed and the strangeness of his movements even surpassed that of Hentian.
In the blink of an eye at high speed, Ren Xiaoyao's mind raced through countless possible scenarios. He wanted to dodge but couldn't, as his feet and left hand were firmly restrained, leaving him no choice but to fight with a single palm. With
a "thud," the three palms clashed, and Ren Xiaoyao was horrified to discover that the opponent's left and right palms possessed completely different strengths. Not only were they different in terms of hardness and softness, heat and cold, but one was extremely hard and hot, while the other was extremely soft and gentle. What was even more deadly was that the hard and hot right palm's force was as fierce as a raging tidal wave, pouring down with a violent attack, while the soft and cold force of the left palm generated an irresistible suction force.
If Ren Xiaoyao also had two palms, he would naturally be fearless—a direct confrontation based on strength, even if Shinguji Ryuken himself came, might not be able to defeat him; a clash of hot and cold, what kind of internal energy in the world could suppress the supreme innate qi?
However, he could only use one hand. Suddenly, when the two palms of the same person struck two different forces at the same time, he felt as if his whole body was being torn in two. Immediately, his meridians felt like they were about to burst, and he felt both cold and hot. He had a lot of internal energy, but he could only desperately resist and could not make any counterattack.
That alone wouldn't have been so bad, but the three Jonin who had been wielding swords drew daggers from their waists and slashed at his ears and ribs, their movements incredibly coordinated. Even with his full attention and no constraints, he still had to be careful, not to mention the black-clad man's strangely powerful and abundant internal energy, which surged towards him like a rising tide.
Ren Xiaoyao roared again, channeling all his strength into a powerful kick, forcefully sending the two Jonin who were holding him flying. Then, maintaining his balance with his right leg, he bent his left leg and kicked out with lightning speed towards the black-clad man's abdomen.
He knew very well that with his protective divine power, even if he were stabbed by a dagger, it would only be a superficial wound. If he were distracted and allowed the black-clad man to take advantage of his weakness, the combination of cold and heat would surely kill him.
Blood splattered as the dagger pierced his left arm. His innate, supreme internal energy automatically generated a force-dissipating effect, causing the poisoned dagger to bounce away from his body before inflicting further damage. However, he couldn't avoid the two subsequent neck-slashing blows. One missed, while the other left a deep gash on his left shoulder. This was only because Ren Xiaoyao swiftly swayed his upper body, barely managing to use the Shadow Clone Technique to avoid fatal blows.
The man in black sneered, bending his left knee and swinging it to block Ren Xiaoyao's flying kick. His strength in his palms not only didn't diminish but actually intensified. A gust
of wind blew, lifting a corner of the man in black's mask. Seeing the eerie smile on his lips and his white beard, Ren Xiaoyao felt a chill run down his spine—Yoshihiro Tomoyuki!
What to do? This was the evil master who had nearly wiped out the seven major sects, along with seven highly skilled Jonin. He was already injured and had completely fallen into the trap the man had meticulously set.
Escape? No, Ren Xiaoyao never backed down easily. As long as he had the strength to fight, he would fight to the bitter end.
Ren Xiaoyao yanked his left hand away, risking his broken bone, and forcefully broke free from his opponent's grasp. Just as he was about to unleash his power, a sudden, sharp pain shot through his elbow—the long-standing injury from his fights with Aoki Toshishi and Zaraki Kenpachi had suddenly flared up!
Ren Xiaoyao gritted his teeth, trying to endure the pain, but his entire arm simply wouldn't obey him.
Now, he had no choice but to retreat, because he couldn't possibly win with just one palm.
Several Jonin attacked a second time. Ren Xiaoyao hurriedly withdrew some of his power, opened his mouth, and spat out a burst of energy, aiming directly at Yoshihiro Tomoyuki's eyes. If Yoshihiro Tomoyuki didn't dodge, he might severely injure Ren Xiaoyao, but his eyes might also be at risk of being blinded.
Yoshihiro Tomoyuki, knowing Ren Xiaoyao was doomed, naturally refused to trade blows and hastily withdrew his palm strike.
With a series of sharp "whoosh" sounds, a dagger from the left pierced Ren Xiaoyao's shoulder. Ren Xiaoyao roared and swung his hand back at the opponent's shoulder. The ninja screamed and rolled sideways, the dagger being pulled out before it could penetrate deeply, accompanied by a spurt of blood from Ren Xiaoyao's body.
Before Ren Xiaoyao could turn around, a long sword thrust straight into his chest, giving him no chance to dodge. It pierced straight into his ribs. Ren Xiaoyao's right hand reached out quickly, grabbing the enemy's sword, which was two inches deep. Knowing that if the enemy released his internal energy, his heart meridian would be shattered, he quickly channeled his true energy into both hands and attacked the enemy fiercely. The
enemy's body trembled violently, unable to channel his internal energy, and used the momentum to pull his sword away and fly back. Ren Xiaoyao slammed his palm into the ground, enduring the excruciating pain throughout his body, and casually drew his Ice Soul Frost Sword. With a circle and a sweep, two clanging sounds rang out as he severed the dagger that followed.
"If not now, when?" Ren Xiaoyao, his chest wound bleeding profusely, dared not hesitate for a moment.
He used the "One Reed Crossing the River" technique, weaving through the bustling, dense crowd towards the south of the city. The chaotic battle spread outwards from him like waves, with passersby scrambling to avoid him. Some crossed the street, causing traffic chaos, with horses neighing and people shouting. Two patrols of soldiers arrived from the west gate, adding to the tense and chaotic atmosphere.
Blood streamed down Ren Xiaoyao's left arm, the pain so intense he couldn't lift it, only able to support himself with his right arm to maintain his balance. Due to excessive blood loss, dizziness washed over him, reducing his usual skill to less than 70%, while the ferocious enemy behind him relentlessly pursued, seemingly intent on taking his life on the spot.
Just as Ren Xiaoyao, certain he wouldn't last long and was running back to the city palace, lamenting his impending doom, a tall, slender samurai suddenly appeared before him. His robes fluttered as he charged towards him. Though not wearing the white uniform of the Thirteen Guards, he carried a katana, and his footwork was identical to the captains he'd seen in the room earlier.
A savior! A savior! Ren Xiaoyao's heart leaped with joy, and he rushed straight towards him.
"Brother, help me..." Ren Xiaoyao had only uttered four words when the man attacked. His target wasn't the pursuing enemy, but Ren Xiaoyao himself!
"Swish—" Ren Xiaoyao hadn't expected this move and had no time to defend. The gleaming blade pierced his abdomen, and blood gushed out!

Volume 36, Chapter 7: Life Hangs by a Thread

"You...why..." Even after being stabbed, Ren Xiaoyao still couldn't believe that the people of the Hokushin Itto-ryu school would join forces with the Seiki-ryu school to kill him. If it weren't for the innate supreme qi within his body automatically generating resistance and preventing the blade from penetrating deeper, his dantian would probably have been pierced through as well.
"Hehe, die!" The samurai chuckled sinisterly, ignoring his question, and directly drew his blade, slashing back with a whooshing motion towards Ren Xiaoyao's face.
A strong wind rose behind him; Yoshihiro Tomoyuki had also caught up at that moment, striking Ren Xiaoyao's back with both palms raised.
With his life hanging in the balance, Ren Xiaoyao roared to the sky, forcefully raising his previously immobile left hand. A sharp pain shot straight to his heart, and every muscle in his body reacted instantly. He leaped into the air, twisting mid-air to barely avoid the blade. Then, he unleashed both palms, channeling his innate energy, and used the ultimate move of the Xiaoyao Wuji Palm, Hunyuan Wuji, to deflect the sword-wielding warrior who was charging at him with his left elbow—no, to pull him back to where he had been.
Ji Hongtong's strange and vicious palm strike was aimed at this spot, but just as it was about to hit, his vision blurred, and the target became his own companion.
His martial arts were indeed remarkable. At the critical moment, his left palm moved in a circular motion through the air, supporting his right wrist and swiftly pushing it aside, managing to dodge the attack in the blink of an eye. The lightning-fast and ferocious palm strike did not touch the warrior at all.
The samurai's skills were equally impressive. Several Jonin who had participated in the siege earlier needed considerable time to recover from the impact of only 40% of Ren Xiaoyao's power, yet he neutralized the innate true energy that had invaded his body in the instant he passed Yoshihiro Tomoyuki. With a swift movement, his longsword pierced the air and struck Ren Xiaoyao again.
With just this one move, Ren Xiaoyao was certain that this man's skill was no less than that of the captain of the 13th Division of the Imperial Guard.
Two grandmaster-level experts attacked from both sides, flanking the exhausted Ren Xiaoyao.
Ren Xiaoyao could neither escape nor fight. Although his innate supreme qi was inexhaustible, his body was nearing its limit.
One move, just one move. If he were to attack with all his might now, he could only use one more move. If he couldn't escape his predicament after that, he would only be left to be slaughtered—even in good condition, even in a one-on-one fight, Ren Xiaoyao's dream of defeating either of them in one move was a pipe dream.
But this time, he should be thankful that he had encountered two opponents of roughly equal strength, who were ruthless in their attacks and equally determined to kill him.
"Nine Revolutions Returning to Origin!" Ren Xiaoyao roared to the sky, and in the instant before Ji Hongtongxing and the warrior attacked, he unhesitatingly unleashed the peerless divine skill that Meng Fei had painstakingly researched for twenty years to avenge the murder of his brother and sister-in-law.
He didn't expect to severely injure his opponents, after all, he was injured and had lost too much blood, his strength was unstable, and he wasn't entirely confident that he could fully recover his palm and sword power; he also didn't hope to switch their moves and force them to exchange blows, because that would only buy him a little time and wouldn't change his fate of being chased to death.
What he wanted to do was to combine the power of the three of them into one, causing an explosion and fighting them to a draw.
A draw? Yes! With the protection of his innate supreme qi, he was invincible, but Ji Hongtongxing and the warrior might not be so lucky.
Wherever the true force went, a raging storm instantly filled the entire arena. Yoshihiro Tomoyuki and the samurai were jolted, as if witnessing a brutal battlefield where thousands of troops clashed, rivers of blood flowed, and the sun and moon were obscured. Knowing what terrible thing was about to happen, they instinctively tried to dodge, but because they had exerted all their strength when they attacked, they were unable to stop their momentum.
"Boom!" The three enormous forces collided at one point, and the chilling true force exploded from that point, spreading at an astonishing speed to a space of two zhang in radius. A raging storm swept outward from the point of contact, and the deadly energy surged and rolled, covering the space of about two zhang in radius, causing dirt and dust to scatter and fly everywhere, as if to engulf everything.
Ren Xiaoyao didn't even have time to glance at his opponent, who was coughing up blood from the shock. He stomped his feet together, turned in mid-air, and used the Flying Immortal Transformation technique to retreat swiftly. A surge of concentrated energy suddenly struck him, shattering the qi barrier he had hastily gathered to protect his back like an iron hammer, and throwing him far away. He rolled on the ground like a weak scarecrow in a gust of wind, his momentum undiminished even after he was more than ten feet away.
"Hurry, hurry, it's just ahead!" Several high-ranking ninjas who had been left far behind due to their inferior lightness skills shouted and chased after him. Ren Xiaoyao dared not linger. He endured the pain, got up from the ground, and used the One Reed Crossing the River technique to run away without looking back, hoping that the chaotic crowd could delay his opponent for a little longer.
"Sect Master, are you alright?" "Don't worry about me, go after Ren Xiaoyao." "Kill him, kill him no matter what!" "Yes!" "What the hell are you waiting for? Charge!" Hearing the shouts behind him, Ren Xiaoyao's heart leaped into his throat. He was severely injured in multiple places, his clothes were soaked in blood inside and out, and he couldn't lift his hands at all. Let alone seven Jonin, even a butcher could easily take his life.
Ren Xiaoyao ran wildly, but as soon as he turned the corner, he saw an old man selling stewed dishes carrying a load coming towards him. He wanted to stop, but it was too late.
With a "crash," he crashed into the food load, the hot soup in the pot and the soy sauce and vinegar on the shelf were spilled everywhere, and a large stack of cooked dishes was smashed to pieces. The stone ground was already slippery, and with the sesame oil all over the ground, Ren Xiaoyao couldn't stand up and fell to the ground with a "thud."
The impact aggravated his injury, causing him to grimace in pain. He struggled to his feet and tried to slip into the alley, but the old man selling food rushed over, grabbed his collar, and pounced on him, hissing, "You brat, can't you see where you're going? I'm over seventy, childless and all alone, my only hope is this carrying pole to survive. You knocked over my manhood, I'll fight you to the death!"
It would have been easy for Ren Xiaoyao to get rid of the old man, but he knew he was in the wrong. He gasped, "Grandpa, let go! I'll pay for the broken things, I'll pay for them."
The old man said, "Fine, you pay. Give me the money. This carrying pole cost two strings of cash, plus the ingredients and the freshly made sauce, it'll cost at least three strings."
"Alright, alright, three strings of cash it is... I don't have any copper coins, here's ten taels of silver." Ren Xiaoyao said, reaching for his money pouch, but instead touched his blood-soaked jacket. He then remembered that during the fight, he had used his internal energy to shatter his outer robe, and the money pouch had fallen with it. He couldn't find a single coin on him. He said apologetically, "I... I'm sorry, I lost my money. Let me go first, and come to the City Hall tomorrow morning. I'll give you a hundred taels."
The old man angrily said, "Hmph, that's easy for you. Someone who can't even come up with three strings of cash can afford to stay at the City Hall? Don't think I'm afraid of you just because you got into a fight and are in this state. Don't expect me to let you go until you hand over the money."
Ren Xiaoyao was in a hurry to escape. He could have simply knocked the old man down, and at worst, have Long Feiyun pay him back tomorrow. But seeing his hunched back, his emaciated frame, and the deep and shallow wrinkles etched on his face and forehead, a sudden pang of sorrow gripped his heart. He thought to himself, "If I just run away like this, he won't even get through the night." With a heavy heart, he tore off the nine-dragon jade pendant from his waist and handed it to him. "Old man, take this jade first. I'll bring money to redeem it tomorrow." The old
man kept shaking his head. "No, I only want money. Heaven knows what this is."
Ren Xiaoyao had no time to explain. He grabbed the old man, trying to run into the alley, but the old man wouldn't budge, grabbing him with both hands and desperately clutching his chest.
"Stop!" A sharp shout rang out behind him. Ren Xiaoyao hurriedly turned around and saw two high-ranking ninjas chasing after him, slashing at his chest and abdomen with a sword and a blade in quick succession.
What to do? What to do now? Ren Xiaoyao tried to pull his hand away to defend himself, but his right arm was held back by the old man, and he couldn't even lift his left arm.
The only way, and the best way, was to swing his right hand to shield the old man. As long as the old man blocked the weapon, he wouldn't be harmed, and he could even use the opportunity to counterattack. However, the old man's life would certainly be in danger.
Faced with such a perilous situation, one would normally prioritize their own safety, caring little for the lives of others.
But Ren Xiaoyao wouldn't. He wouldn't allow any innocent civilians to suffer any unnecessary harm.
Without the slightest hesitation or delay, he pushed the old man aside, using his own flesh and blood to meet the gleaming blade in mid-air.
He would rather die than harm others.
"Hey, you…" The old man was stunned, collapsing to the ground with a thud.
As luck would have it, his buttocks landed squarely on the side of the carrying pole that was stuck by the stone,
sending the entire load flying and crashing down on the two Jonin. The two Jonin were startled and hesitated, failing to strike Ren Xiaoyao.
"Murder! Help!" the old man cried out, scrambling to his feet and running aimlessly. In his terror, he bumped into Ren Xiaoyao.
As luck would have it, the impact sent Ren Xiaoyao stumbling several feet away, landing behind the two Jonin.
A golden opportunity! Ren Xiaoyao had no time to ponder the coincidence of his two rescues. He roared and unleashed the Shaolin martial art, "Shadow Following Kick," striking the two men squarely in the lower back. They coughed up blood and were thrown aside like motionless rag dolls, crashing into the roadside wall and remaining motionless after landing.
"Old man, run!" Ren Xiaoyao, having fought desperately to kill two men, suddenly felt all his injuries flare up, blood gushing from his body . He collapsed heavily to the ground, managing to utter his last words.
In the instant before he fainted, he vaguely saw the old man rush to the carrying pole, grab something, and charge towards the ninjas who followed. Just as he tried to get up to grab him, everything went black, and he instantly lost consciousness. In the pitch black, Ren Xiaoyao drifted in and out of consciousness, as if floating in the void, his body beyond his control.

In

his dazed state, he suddenly saw more than a dozen Shiki-ryu ninjas rushing out from all directions, wielding sharp blades and attacking him. The leader was Yoshihiro Nobuyuki, and the Hokushin Itto-ryu samurai who had ambushed him were also among them.
He wanted to draw his sword, but couldn't; he wanted to strike, but couldn't lift his hands; he wanted to dodge, but his feet felt like they were made of lead, and he couldn't move at all...
"Come on, come on! I, Ren Xiaoyao, have roamed the battlefields without fear of thousands of troops, why should I be afraid of you shameless villains!" Ren Xiaoyao roared, suddenly waking up. His eyes lit up, and he found himself lying on a couch in Songfeng Pavilion. A soft, melodious voice, like a nightingale's song, called out beside him, "Xiaoyao, don't worry, it's...it's alright!" It was Nangong Fengyi's voice.
Ren Xiaoyao, panting heavily, finally recovered and realized he was covered in cold sweat. He thought to himself, "That was a dream... That was close... That was close..." Feeling weak and listless, he asked, "Fengyi, I... I wasn't ambushed by the Shi Gui Liu people in the alley... How did I end up here?"
Nangong Fengyi said softly, "An old man with white hair brought you back. He kept nagging Feiyun, saying that you broke his load and he had to pay for it, that he promised to pay one hundred taels... Everyone was so worried when they saw you covered in blood. Fengzi threw him ten ingots of gold and carried you into the room crying..."
Ren Xiaoyao looked at his head and muttered, "What? Grandpa brought me back? That's strange. There were five Jonin chasing me. How could he have handled them?"
Nangong Fengyi saw his astonished expression, which didn't seem fake, and exclaimed in surprise, "Grandpa said you mustered your remaining strength and killed them all—what, you don't remember?"
Before Ren Xiaoyao could speak, she continued, "Ah, that's right. Your head was hit by internal energy, so it's not surprising that you don't remember what happened before you fainted." At this point, her voice suddenly paused, and two lines of clear tears slid down her jade-like cheeks. "Do you know, your injury this time..." "It was no less severe than when I was besieged by the Liao army outside Xunfeng City. My chest, abdomen, and back were almost entirely pierced by sharp blades, and every sword and dagger that struck me was coated with deadly poison. If it weren't for Hanbi's superb medical skills and my internal strength far surpassing what it used to be, I probably... I probably wouldn't have woken up."
Looking at her tearful and pitiful appearance, Ren Xiaoyao suddenly felt a pang of sorrow. His excessive recklessness and pride had not only caused him to be injured, but had also made Fengyi, Fengzi, and Hanbi worry unnecessarily. He thought that during the days he had been unconscious, Furong, Xiuxiu, Feiyun, and Meina in the Xuye Palace must have also been unable to eat or sleep.
Ren Xiaoyao struggled to sit up, gently pulling Nangong Fengyi into his arms. He wiped away her tears with his sleeve and said softly, "Don't worry, I'll never be so reckless again, and I'll never make you worry about me again."
Nangong Fengyi nodded and asked softly, "With your martial arts skills, even if you were ambushed and surrounded, even if you couldn't fight back, you should have been able to escape. How did you get so badly injured?"
Ren Xiaoyao sighed and said with a bitter smile, "I am..."
A voice from outside the door interjected, "Leader Ren was struck by our Beichen Yidao-ryu's unique technique—the Three-Crescent Moon Slash—resulting in an abdominal wound and excessive blood loss." That's why she couldn't hold out until she returned to the city palace.
The door creaked open, and Su Hanbi accompanied a noble-looking middle-aged woman into the room. She was dressed in the uniform of the captain of the 13th Guard of the Imperial Palace, with a large "four" embroidered on her chest. Her posture was elegant, her features were exquisite, and her soft, black hair, like a clear stream or a cascading waterfall, flowed freely over her fragrant shoulders and back. A gentle smile graced her face, creating an aura of unapproachable, otherworldly beauty. If it weren't for the fine crow's feet at the corners of her eyes, which revealed that she was over thirty, she would have been an absolutely stunning beauty.
Su Hanbi gazed intently at Ren Xiaoyao, softly introducing him, "This is Captain of the Fourth Division, the number one divine physician of Fusang, Unohana Retsu. It's thanks to her timely assistance in treating your injuries and even providing you with sacred medicine from Hueco Mundo; otherwise… hmph, who knows what kind of lingering effects those cuts might have left you with."
Ren Xiaoyao quickly bowed in thanks. Unohana Retsu gave a slight apologetic bow, her delicate brows furrowing slightly, and said, "It's nothing, Master Ren, no need to worry. Besides… the sins sown by our sect's traitorous disciple should be repaid by our sect."
Ren Xiaoyao was moved, saying, "What, was it really someone from your sect who injured me!?"
Unohana Retsu's beautiful eyes flashed with a complex expression, saying, "In the past, yes, but…" she then sighed. "Has Master Ren ever heard of the name Shindono Mitsuaki?"
Ren Xiaoyao paused, then murmured, "It seems...it seems like someone mentioned it...ah, it's Masayoshi! I remember when Ryujin Jakka was stolen, he mentioned that in the current Japanese martial arts world, only three people dared to covet this divine weapon, and one of them was Shindono Mitsuaki—what, was he the one who impersonated your sect's disciple to assassinate me?"
Unohana Retsu nodded solemnly, saying, "Yes, Shindono Mitsuaki is the sect leader's junior brother, and in terms of seniority, he's higher than most of the current captains. He and the sect leader are both rare talents, unparalleled in the sect's history, but due to his arrogance and narrow-mindedness, he repeatedly violated the sect rules and was expelled from the sect. Although Sect Leader Suzuki crippled all his..." He possessed the ninjutsu, but out of momentary pity, he didn't sever his tendons as required by the rules, resulting in the 'Mikazuki Slash,' the foremost of our sect's four great taijutsu techniques, being taken to the Ryūgan school by him, a legacy that continues to this day. He still had some conscience, never causing trouble for our sect for over twenty years, but this time… At first, seeing the wound on your abdomen, I couldn't believe it was his doing, but according to reports from members of the secret mobile units infiltrating the Seiki Ninja and Ryūgan schools, last night Yoshihiro Nobuyuki and Shinonome Mitsuaki did indeed lead the seven most skilled Jonin in our sect out, and when they returned, only the two of them remained, both seriously injured. Considering that you kept shouting while unconscious that you wanted to fight Yoshihiro Nobuyuki, it's enough to confirm…”
Ren Xiaoyao still felt weak all over and couldn't lift much. With little strength, leaning against Nangong Fengyi's soft and warm body, he said in a deep voice, "The problem is that the other party was clearly prepared. They had set up an ambush at the street corner, as if they were certain that I would go to the residence of the Ghost Stream to investigate that night. This is too strange." As he spoke, he thought to himself, "Captain Aizen and Ichimaru asked me to do this. Could it be that they... No, even if they wanted to harm me, they wouldn't be sure that I would go that night. If it was Yoshihiro Nobuyuki and Shindono Mitsuaki who were plotting to take my life and specifically sent someone to follow me to find an opportunity to strike, my keen senses would not have failed to detect it." Countless thoughts raced through his mind, but none of them could explain the reason for the attack. He couldn't help but sigh.
Unohana Retsu smiled apologetically, as if she could see through his thoughts, and said, "Actually, Master Ren was taking the blame for someone else, and accidentally stumbled into the trap set by the other side."
She paused slightly, then lowered her voice and said, "That night, the Sixth Division suddenly received a letter from an unknown source, saying that the Seki-ryu had gathered a large number of members of the anti-Hokushin Ittō-ryu alliance for a secret meeting at their residence. Captain Aizen originally intended to take Hinamori and several board members down the mountain to investigate, but a sudden situation occurred on the way, and he had to go alone."
Ren Xiaoyao exclaimed in surprise, "What? The trap was used to deal with him!" As the eldest disciple of Shinguji Ryūken, Aizen Sōsuke and Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni were the leading figures of the three generations of elders of the Gogū-ryu Thirteen Divisions (the younger generation was Hitsugaya Tōshirō), and were also the most promising candidates to become the next leader. If, at this critical moment when a great battle is about to break out, he were to be taken down without anyone noticing, it would undoubtedly be a huge blow to the Hokushin Ittō-ryū. No wonder the elites of the Seki-ryū and Ryū-gō-ryū schools have all come out, and even the two great masters, Yoshihiro Nobuyuki and Shindono Mitsuaki, have personally come to fight.
Unohana Retsu smiled wryly, "That's right. But coincidentally, Captain Aizen discovered he was being followed when he reached the foot of the mountain. Although he didn't catch the culprit, the ninjutsu he used to escape was clearly a unique technique of the Seiki-ryu school. Captain Aizen, skilled in both martial arts and strategy, quickly understood the situation and hurriedly returned to the palace, intending to summon the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth squads on night duty to turn the tables and wipe out their opponents. However, considering the safety of the Third Prince and to prevent them from using this as a diversion, the sect leader didn't approve the plan and instead ordered us to stay and guard Hueco Mundo. Little did he expect that you, Master Ren, would stumble into their carefully laid trap."
Ren Xiaoyao nodded as if he understood. Although Unohana Retsu's explanation was quite reasonable, he vaguely felt something was amiss, but couldn't quite put his finger on it, so he decided to leave it at that for now.
Unohana Retsu smiled and said, "Master Ren's internal energy cultivation is truly remarkable. An ordinary person suffering such severe injuries would be barely clinging to life, and even if they were to be saved, they wouldn't be able to wake up for at least ten days or half a month. You regained consciousness after only two days of lying down, and you didn't need any medicine; you neutralized the deadly poison, the Secret Poison of the World Ghost Stream, solely through the circulation of your internal energy. It's truly astonishing. It's a pity that Sister Hanbi's treasured Poison-Repelling Heavenly Pearl is now useless."
The crowd couldn't help but smile at her amusing words.
The news of Ren Xiaoyao's awakening spread quickly. In less than half a cup of tea's time, Nangong Fengzi, Shui Furong, Lin Yuxiu, and Long Feiyun all arrived. Just after noon, Shinguji Mina also hurriedly came from the Void Palace to visit, accompanied by Soi Fong and Yoruichi Shihouin, among others. The large room was filled with the lively chatter of women.
Ren Xiaoyao tilted his head back and finished two large bowls of dark, murky medicine. Smearing his bitter lips, he asked, "So, can I go out and settle accounts with Yoshihiro Mitsuyuki and Shindono Mitsuaki now?"
Su Hanbi, who had just given him a full-body examination, didn't answer, nor did Unohana Retsu, who was taking his pulse.
"Say it! Can you or can't you?" Ren Xiaoyao urged impatiently.
"Can Sect Leader Ren stand up?" Yoruichi Shihouin asked with a smile from beside the table.
"Of course… Ouch!" Ren Xiaoyao had barely exerted himself when a sudden, sharp pain shot through his lower abdomen, and he slumped back down.
"So, what do you think..." Su Hanbi rolled her eyes at him, then looked at Unohana Retsu. The two whispered to each other for a while before Unohana Retsu finally said, "You can't get out of bed for three days, you can't go out for ten days, and you can't fight for half a month. I'll tell you about the other things you need to be careful about slowly, Hanbi will."
"Are you... are you kidding me? My injuries are that serious." Ren Xiaoyao was so shocked that his mouth dropped open, and he couldn't close it for a long time.
"If it were anyone else, they would have to lie in bed for at least half a year." Unohana Retsu sighed softly, "Not to mention anything else, that 'Mikazuki Slash' almost killed you, and the sword in your back was only half an inch away from your heart. If it had been a little off, you would have died on the spot. If you don't want to repeat the same mistake, then stay here obediently until..."
"No, I can't swallow this. I'm going to settle accounts with the Shiki-ryu and Ryugang-ryu." Ren Xiaoyao said fiercely. This was the first time he had suffered such a big defeat since his debut, and he was not willing to give up so easily.
"Now is not the time for revenge!" Yoruichi Shihōin said coldly. "Master Ren is seriously injured, and we, the Hokushin Ittō-ryū, feel very bad about it. Kenpachi is furious and has vowed to lead the Eleventh Division to wipe out the Seikiryū. But the decisive battle is far from over. Taking action too early will only expose our strength and will not bring any benefit."
"What's there to be afraid of? They know my strength." Ren Xiaoyao still insisted.
"Let's not even mention the martial arts of that old devil Yoshihiro Tomoyuki. Shindono Mitsuaki is also a grandmaster-level expert. In addition, there are many ninjas around him. What price do you plan to pay to kill them? Lose an arm, suffer internal injuries, or trade your life for theirs? With a great battle imminent, is such a loss worthwhile?" Retsu Unohana's questions left Ren Xiaoyao speechless.
"A gentleman takes revenge even after ten years, let alone just half a month." Nangong Fengyi smiled gently and covered Ren Xiaoyao with an embroidered quilt. "You should rest here and recuperate until your injuries are fully healed..."
"If Sect Leader Ren wants revenge, he's not afraid of not having the chance." Shihōin Yoruichi chuckled as she looked at Ren Xiaoyao's embarrassed expression. "According to reports from the secret mobile forces, Fujiwara no Michitaka, under the instruction of Prince Kiriko, has gathered forces from Iga Valley, Koga Valley, Togakushi Ninja School, Haguro Ninja School, Hokuriku Province, and Kanto Province, and united various evil sects to form the so-called 'Anti-Hokushin Ittō-ryū Alliance.' A large number of ninjas are rushing to Nara from Kansai, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Hokkaido. The Sect Leader's birthday in twenty-three days is destined to be the day of the decisive battle!"

Volume 36, Chapter 9: Xiuxiu Serves You.

Since things had been said to this extent, it would be too pretentious for Ren Xiaoyao to remain stubborn. He obediently lay back down and focused on recovering from his injuries.
Su Hanbi and Unohana Retsu's diagnosis was not an exaggeration at all. This time, his injuries were indeed more severe than ever before. If it weren't for Shinguji Mina's heartache for her lover, she would have practically turned the entire Hueco Mundo's medicine storehouse upside down, sending bags and packages of all sorts of medicinal herbs—ginseng, lingzhi, dendrobium, gecko, cordyceps—regardless of whether they were appropriate for his condition, to the city's imperial residence. However, what everyone carried and what was available on the market was simply not enough.
Ren Xiaoyao lay in bed for two days, drinking dozens of bowls of medicinal soup, not counting the seven or eight kinds of pills he had to take morning, noon, and night. His mouth was dry and bitter, but the places that should be hurting were still aching terribly, and he couldn't even get out of bed.
The only saving grace was that because they had indirectly "driven" him away, nearly causing his death, Yi Tianhan and Fu Longyuan were too embarrassed to mention Hua Shijun's matter again, and they didn't impulsively storm Xu Ye Palace. Instead, they took the initiative to go out and gather information for him. Meng Fei and Deng Lei were also unwilling to stay in Songfeng Pavilion,
and whenever they had a spare moment, they would go nearby to keep watch. Yoshihiro Tomoyuki, Shindono Mitsuaki, and Ren Xiaoyao fought to a standstill, and most of the Jonin in their sect were lost. The four top masters secretly spied around their residence, even entering at night to investigate without anyone noticing. Although Ren Xiaoyao never left his residence, he was very familiar with the situation of the Shiki-ryu and Ryugang-ryu sects.
At night, Aizen Sōsuke suddenly visited, accompanied only by the vice-captain Hinamori Momo. Ren Xiaoyao guessed that he must have something important to discuss, so he ordered all the women to leave and asked him to come in alone.
Ren Xiaoyao was too badly injured to get up, so Aizen Sōsuke didn't stand on ceremony and moved a chair to sit down by the bed.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Aizen Sousuke said apologetically, "Alas, I shouldn't have spoken so hastily, informing Master Ren of unconfirmed information, causing you to suffer in my place. It's truly... truly..."
Ren Xiaoyao, displaying his usual composure, joked, "Captain Aizen, there's no need to worry. I only traded half my life for seven; it wasn't a bad deal."
Aizen Sousuke paused, wanting to say something more, but Ren Xiaoyao interrupted with a smile, "Captain's arrival at this late hour must be for important matters. Why not get straight to the point?" It wasn't that he didn't want to hear apologies, but the matter was already in the past and there was no need to bring it up again, otherwise it would both prick his sore spot and embarrass Aizen Sousuke.
Aizen Sousuke, being a man of great stature, immediately understood Ren Xiaoyao's meaning after a moment's thought. He solemnly said, "I've come to tell Master Ren that we've made progress on the traitor's matter."
Ren Xiaoyao was startled and asked, "Oh? Who is the traitor?"
Aizen Sousuke leaned closer and lowered his voice, saying, "The specific target is still unclear, but it's certain that this person is in the 3rd, 9th, or 12th Divisions."
Ren Xiaoyao asked in a deep voice, "What do you mean?"
Aizen Sousuke explained, "Normally, the defense of Las Noches is divided into two shifts, one for the palace and one for Mount Kii. After the sect leader ordered a full lockdown, the area within a ten-mile radius of Mount Kii was taken over by the Anbu, and the palace's defense changed from one shift per team to four teams per shift, rotating daily."
He took a deep breath and slowly said, "The problem lies here: the order in which the divisions are stationed is not fixed. The next day..." "The decision of which squads will take over is entirely decided by the sect leader and then communicated to the captain on duty that day. The captain then relays this information to the next squad two hours before the evening shift change."
Ren Xiaoyao's eyes lit up, and he added, "So, only the captain on duty yesterday knows which squads will be responsible for guarding the area that night." Aizen Sousuke nodded and continued, "The operation that night was clearly aimed at me, so I'm certain that the information about the Sixth Squad guarding the eastern side of Hueco Mundo must have been leaked beforehand. This gave them enough time to set up traps and arrange various 'incidents' to lure me to the residence of the World Demon Stream alone."
Ren Xiaoyao suddenly understood and said, "I see. Then..."
Aizen Sousuke whispered in his ear, "The day before the incident, the Third, Ninth, Twelfth, and Thirteenth Squads were responsible for guarding the area. Among them, members of the Third, Ninth, and Twelfth Squads were sent out alone..." "If I'm not mistaken, there must be a traitor among them."
Ren Xiaoyao asked in surprise, "Captain Ichimaru is also among the suspects?"
Aizen Sousuke added, "No, the vice-captain also knows about these things. Excluding Ichimaru, there are five people among the suspects. Because there is no further evidence, we cannot yet determine who it is. Today, I have come here to ask if you, Master Ren, noticed anything suspicious on the night of the attack, or who in the 3rd, 9th, or 12th Divisions might have ulterior motives, so that I can find out the truth as soon as possible."
Ren Xiaoyao pondered for a moment, thinking that there really wasn't anything suspicious. The only thing that felt strange was the white-haired old man who was clinging to him and wouldn't stop until he got the money. But as a food vendor, he had no connection with the 3rd, 9th, or 12th Divisions. So he said, "From the time I was attacked until I was seriously injured and unconscious..." "It was all a matter of moments, barely enough time to drink a cup of tea. Aside from the fierce fighting, there was no time to think about anything else. As for me to say which of the captains and vice-captains might have ulterior motives… heh, I've only just arrived in Nara and haven't yet established close relationships with the various squads, so I dare not make any rash judgments."
Aizen Sousuke showed a hint of disappointment, and said with a wry smile, "In that case, I'll take my leave. I hope Master Ren will take good care of himself and recover as soon as possible." He then stood up gracefully, but as he reached the door, he suddenly turned back and said in a deep voice, "The situation is tense right now, and accidents could happen at any moment. For safety reasons, it would be best for Master Ren to move to the palace."
Ren Xiaoyao smiled noncommittally and asked, "Captain Aizen, do you still want to continue investigating the traitor matter?"
Aizen Sousuke's expression hardened, his deep eyes gleaming, and he slowly said, word by word, "Of course, I will not give up until I find out the truth."
"Then... please be careful!" Ren Xiaoyao felt a sense of camaraderie and sincerely reminded him.
"Yes, I will," Aizen Sousuke replied with a smile.
Watching him push open the door and walk away, Ren Xiaoyao suddenly felt a sense of foreboding.
××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××
Five days later, Ren Xiaoyao's injuries had greatly improved. He was not only able to get out of bed and walk around, but his wounds had also healed to a considerable extent. His energy and spirit were much better than when he had just woken up.
At noon, he was meditating in his room. His true energy circulated through his body three times, becoming increasingly abundant. Suddenly, he turned to the side and slammed his palm heavily against the wall. The sound echoed throughout the room.
A moment later, footsteps sounded outside the door, and Lin Yuxiu rushed in, asking in a sweet voice, "Big brother, what...what's wrong?"
Ren Xiaoyao asked, "What's wrong?"
Lin Yuxiu clutched the hem of her clothes and whispered, "I...I just heard a sound..."
Ren Xiaoyao laughed and said, "I was meditating and circulating my energy, and I accidentally struck out with my palm. It's nothing."
Lin Yuxiu breathed a sigh of relief and gently stroked her breasts, saying, "Big brother, you scared me half to death! I thought some bad guy...some bad guy was coming to assassinate you, that's why...that's why I made that noise." As she spoke, a relieved smile appeared on her face, and she was about to turn and leave the room when Ren Xiaoyao suddenly stepped forward, pressed her shoulder, and said softly, "Xiuxiu, wait." He gently turned her body towards him, gazing at her tenderly.
Lin Yuxiu was stunned for a moment, then her pretty face flushed slightly, and she said somewhat flusteredly, "What...what's wrong now?" Ren Xiaoyao continued to look at her quietly, then reached out and embraced her slender waist, while raising his other hand to gently stroke her delicate, flawless face.
Lin Yuxiu's heart pounded, and she lowered her head shyly, biting her cherry lips, unsure of what to do, only her eyes revealing a shy and nervous expression.
Ren Xiaoyao saw an alluring blush quickly rise on her snow-white face, and her bewildered expression, and his appetite was piqued. He smiled and gently twirled her cloud-like, fragrant hair, saying softly, "That's good. Just looking at you makes me feel peaceful and happy."
Hearing this, Lin Yuxiu blushed even more, lowered her head shyly, and whispered, "Big brother, don't say that...it's so embarrassing." Ren Xiaoyao laughed, "Hehe, everything I said is true, I'm not making fun of you. "
He turned around, picked up Lin Yuxiu, took a few steps, and then pushed her onto the bed, his hand moving towards her chest.
Lin Yuxiu was startled and hurriedly said, "Wait...wait a minute, big brother, not now!"
Ren Xiaoyao asked with a smile, "What's wrong? Is it inconvenient?"
Lin Yuxiu shook her head, her face flushed, and murmured, "No, no, it's not that. I made an appointment with Sister Hanbi..."
Ren Xiaoyao laughed, "Put Hanbi's matter aside for now, doing this is more important."
Lin Yuxiu shook her head repeatedly in embarrassment, "No...no, if the other sisters find out..."
Ren Xiaoyao laughed heartily, "It's alright, they won't say anything." With a gentle squeeze, he grasped Lin Yuxiu's delicate breasts and began to knead them slowly.
Lin Yuxiu trembled slightly, gasped in panic, and quickly turned away, whispering, "Big brother, your injury hasn't healed yet, don't do this..."
Ren Xiaoyao chuckled, "It's precisely because I'm injured that I need you to heal me."
Lin Yuxiu's pretty face flushed red, and she stammered, "Nonsense, how... how can you heal like this?"
Ren Xiaoyao continued to play with her tender breasts, leaned over and gently kissed her cheek, softly saying, "Of course you can. When you're in a good mood, your injuries will naturally heal faster." Lin Yuxiu hummed
in agreement, looking confused, and actually believed him. She propped herself up with her hands, sat on the edge of the bed, and whispered, "Then... okay then, but, big brother, you can't go too far, your health is important. "
Ren Xiaoyao grew increasingly fond of her, laughing heartily, "Haha, I can't guarantee that, but you're so adorable, I can't resist you." He then used both hands to vigorously press against Lin Yuxiu's delicate breasts, causing her clothes to wrinkle and her breathing to become rapid. "
Uh... ah ah..." Lin Yuxiu shyly closed her eyes, her body trembling violently. Her cherry lips parted erratically, revealing her pearly teeth, and she breathed heavily. Her fine black hair cascaded over her shoulders, and her bright, watery eyes shone with a shy yet seemingly joyful light, radiating an innocent and pure beauty. (

Chapter 10 of Volume 36: Lan Ran's Death)

Lin Yuxiu struggled a few times, panting softly, and said with a hint of resentment, "Big brother... take off your clothes first, like this... ah, ah... it itches... it's so itchy... no... ah—" Ren Xiaoyao pretended not to hear, laughing as he pulled open her clothes... He pressed his hand against her collar, teasing her ample breasts even more vigorously. The
previously barely visible pale pink buds were now engorged and erect
. Ren Xiaoyao first gently touched them with his fingernails, then circled them, causing Lin Yuxiu to tremble all over, moaning softly, her voice slightly trembling. Ren Xiaoyao couldn't resist pulling open her collar, taking her right breast into his mouth and suckling like a baby nursing. Sometimes he would lick the pink bud quickly with his tongue, sometimes he would gently nibble at the tiny nipple with his teeth, while his right hand continuously kneaded and teased her sensitive area.
Lin Yuxiu's throat... She let out a few soft, sweet sounds, her face burning with embarrassment. She hurriedly covered her chest with her arms as a defense, her fingers pursing her lips, trying her best to suppress the excitement. But the waves of blissful, sweet, and shamefully intoxicating pleasure emanating from her breasts quickly spread throughout her body and limbs.
Ren Xiaoyao seized Lin Yuxiu's slightly parted cherry lips and kissed them passionately, their tongues intertwining tightly. The touch was soft and smooth, and a fragrance like orchids and musk filled his nostrils, further fueling his desire. His left hand, gripping Lin Yuxiu's breasts, unconsciously tightened its hold. He kept kneading her vigorously.
Under this intense stimulation of pleasure, Lin Yuxiu's mind went blank, and she couldn't help but moan. The young girl's heart was experiencing a kind of intoxicating, tense, and stimulating carnal pleasure that almost made her breathless and dizzy. Her originally snow-white and crystal-clear body gradually turned into a mature and alluring blush, as if attracting someone to pick her, making her body even more captivating.
Ren Xiaoyao sat on the edge of the bed, slowly removing Lin Yuxiu's clothes. Looking at her flushed face, he said softly, "Xiuxiu, you'll have to work hard today." He lowered his voice and whispered a few words.
Lin Yuxiu's long eyelashes fluttered, and a shy expression appeared on her face. She seemed very embarrassed and said timidly, "It has to be... like that... that's so embarrassing... do you really want to do it?"
Ren Xiaoyao smiled and said, "Of course, I'm injured and can't move too much, so you'll have to do it." Lin
Yuxiu lowered her head shyly, slowly removing her
silk skirt. Ren Xiaoyao was already lying on the bed. With her back to Ren Xiaoyao, Lin Yuxiu straddled him, carefully sitting on his lap. Her expression was still somewhat nervous. She took a deep breath, her snow-white body lowering forward, her plump buttocks facing Ren Xiaoyao's face. She cupped her breasts in her hands, clamping them around Ren Xiaoyao's hot, thick penis, and gently kneaded it.
Ren Xiaoyao's body trembled slightly. He stuck out his tongue and gently poked at the tender red petals before him.
"Uh..." Lin Yuxiu sobbed softly, suppressing her shyness, and began to service Ren Xiaoyao's treasure with her full breasts. Her soft, elastic breasts enveloped the gradually hardening penis, gently and tenderly massaging it. This kind of enjoyment was intoxicating, making the man feel as if he had ascended to heaven.
This special method of intercourse was something Ren Xiaoyao conceived unintentionally. Every time he made love with the women, seeing their breasts rise and fall with each thrust filled him with immense pleasure, while they were all mortified. Lin Yuxiu, in particular, couldn't last long and couldn't satisfy Ren Xiaoyao. Later, he finally came up with this ingenious method, allowing him to fully enjoy the beauty of the women's breasts without making them too embarrassed.
Lin Yuxiu devoted herself to serving her lover, massaging him with her tender, snow-white skin, her sweat moistening his penis. Before Ren Xiaoyao could even release his essence, it was already covered in a thick, white paste, nestled within her cleavage, enjoying a blissful moment. The warm, full feeling excited Ren Xiaoyao immensely, and he almost ejaculated several times.
Lin Yuxiu, her heart pounding with infatuation, was like a gentle, docile white lamb, shyly and timidly "serving" Ren Xiaoyao. Her beautiful cheeks were flushed red, her eyes were closed shyly, and her heart pounded like a drum. Her jade hands continued to massage, and she whispered, "Big...big brother, is it...comfortable for you? How much longer...ah!"
Ren Xiaoyao smiled without answering, his fingers once again brushing against Lin Yuxiu's pearl. She bit her pearly teeth, her body involuntarily going limp, her long, beautiful legs tensing as if in a spasm. Then she heard Ren Xiaoyao laugh behind her, "Xiuxiu, "You're even wet here, it seems your whole body is already soaking wet."
Lin Yuxiu gritted her teeth, her heart pounding, her face flushed, and she cried out, "Big brother, you're not answering my question, you're teasing me..."
Ren Xiaoyao touched her soaking wet crotch and chuckled, "Of course it feels good, it feels incredibly good."
Lin Yuxiu groaned a few more times, panting, "But...but...I can't hold back..."
Ren Xiaoyao asked knowingly, "Can't hold back what?"
Before the words were even out of his mouth, he saw the fair, snowy buttocks tremble, the tender flesh between her buttocks contract slightly, and a few drops of glistening semen dripped down, sticking to his neck.
Ren Xiaoyao pretended to suddenly understand and laughed, "Oh, I see..." Then he moved Lin Yuxiu's body away, sat up, and made her lie on the headboard, then straddled her.
The previous service had left Lin Yuxiu drenched in sweat, her skin flushed and rosy. Her hazy eyes gazed at Ren Xiaoyao, a mixture of anticipation and shyness, further amplified by his teasing words, making her feel utterly ashamed.
Ren Xiaoyao patted his erect penis and said with a smile, "Xiuxiu, look, thanks to your hard work just now, I'm full of energy."
Lin Yuxiu, seeing this, felt even more embarrassed and quickly turned her head away, whispering with a laugh, "What... I... I don't know."
Ren Xiaoyao leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Words are useless; now I'll repay you." He turned her face and kissed her lips. At the same time, he parted her long, slender legs, thrusting forcefully, penetrating her deepest secret.
"Mmm... mmm!" Lin Yuxiu's lips were sealed, and she could only moan incoherently, but the high-pitched tone was still discernible. Ren Xiaoyao kissed her passionately, his body slowly thrusting deeper into her, clear fluids overflowing from between her muscles.
"Mmm...ah...ha..." Lin Yuxiu frowned, trying her best to suppress her cries, but this was only a small act of restraint. In the blink of an eye, she couldn't hold back anymore, letting out sounds of pleasure, quickly reaching a point of ecstasy that Ren Xiaoyao could hardly resist.
Knowing he was injured, Ren Xiaoyao, after his initial fierce thrusts, softened his movements, making Lin Yuxiu feel as if she had been tossed up by a large wave and landed in warm seawater, experiencing the slow yet powerful impact of the waves. He gently adjusted his movements, reaching the depths of Lin Yuxiu's body again and again, enjoying her beautiful body, caressing the smooth curves of her skin, and listening to her uncontrollable moans.
He breathed softly, whispering in her ear, "Xiuxiu... the only one in the world who can make me this happy is you..." Lin Yuxiu barely opened her eyes, gazing at him hazily, her lips slightly parted, but she couldn't speak, only breathing intermittently, though a blissful expression shone on her face.
From their first night until now, the two had lost count of how many times they had made love. Facing Ren Xiaoyao, whom she loved so deeply, Lin Yuxiu could no longer control herself. With her lover's advances, her expression grew increasingly tender, and her movements gradually became less restrained, a far cry from the awkwardness of their first time sharing love. The only thing that remained unchanged was her shyness, though her body refused to cooperate, always reacting intensely.
Her tender body, under Ren Xiaoyao's vigorous assault, appeared fresh and moist. Lin Yuxiu gasped in a daze, "Big...Big brother...ah, mmm...ah...so...so good...ah..." Her fair skin convulsed and trembled violently, and two crystal tears welled up in her tightly closed eyes.
Ren Xiaoyao thrust forcefully, whispering in her ear, "Xiuxiu, what's so good?"
Lin Yuxiu's ears burned, and her large eyes, still wet with tears of joy, blushed as she cried out, "Big brother...ah...that...um..." Although she was intoxicated by pleasure, she was still somewhat conscious, and out of shame, how could she say it?
Seeing that Lin Yuxiu refused to give in, Ren Xiaoyao exerted all his strength and thrust in forcefully, manipulating her delicate body until it trembled and cried out loudly. The bed was a mess, wet everywhere, and the sounds of their lower bodies colliding were incessant.
"Ah, ah...uh, ha...big...big brother...too...ah..." Lin Yuxiu was floating on air when suddenly Ren Xiaoyao rolled over and lay on the bed, with Lin Yuxiu on top of him. Ren Xiaoyao hugged her pink buttocks, teasing her tight cleft, and said, "Xiuxiu, I'm a little tired, you take over."
A wave of shyness washed over Lin Yuxiu. While responding to his vigorous movements, she weakly climbed up from his chest. Her waist seemed unable to bear the weight, as if it were about to break. She looked at Ren Xiaoyao pitifully and slowly began to twist.
Ren Xiaoyao pinched Lin Yuxiu's plump and delicate buttocks, watching her alluring figure sway and her breasts, feeling her clumsy yet earnest service without any barrier. His blood boiled with excitement, and he whispered breathlessly, "Xiuxiu, you...you're really good, even better than before."
Lin Yuxiu gasped softly, her face flushed with shyness, her eyes brimming with tears, and she gasped, "Big...big brother is...ah, um...making fun of me...again...mmm..."
They had done this position before, on the night Lin Yuxiu lost her virginity, in the pavilion halfway up Zhurong Peak. Ren Xiaoyao, afraid Lin Yuxiu would hurt herself on the stone slabs, had positioned himself below her, letting her take the dominant role. At that time, Lin Yuxiu was still a virgin, inexperienced in matters of love, and dared not attempt this unusual position, thus failing to fully enjoy it. After several years, she had finally let go of her inhibitions. Although her technique was mediocre, it still aroused Ren Xiaoyao to a fever pitch—not to mention Lin Yuxiu's undeniably beautiful body, her shy and timid demeanor alone was enough to make him lose his mind.
Even more so, as Lin Yuxiu swayed her hips, her two exquisite, translucent breasts bounced rapidly. Her upper body was already soaked with milk; the sound of her breasts hitting her body was bright and smooth, and milk droplets flew everywhere, some even splashing onto Ren Xiaoyao's face and chest. Lin Yuxiu became increasingly embarrassed, crying out in a daze, "Big brother...please...please...ah...let me...um...let me...let me be on the bottom..."
Ren Xiaoyao refused to turn over, grabbing Lin Yuxiu's waist and helping her move vigorously.
Lin Yuxiu was burning hot, waves of force surging through her lower body, the intense pleasure driving her into a state of wantonness, her body completely out of her control.
"Ah...uh...no...no...I can't...ah..." She placed her right hand on Ren Xiaoyao's chest, while her other hand squeezed her sweat-dampened breasts. She had originally intended to cover them up a little, but as soon as her palm touched them, the intense passion of making love with her lover overwhelmed everything. Her fingers were so engrossed in pinching her tender breasts that it only added to the lewdness.
At this moment, Lin Yuxiu was deeply immersed in passion, unable to hold back any longer. She cried out, "Big brother!" Her right hand slid, and her entire body fell heavily onto Ren Xiaoyao, her waist making a final rhythmic thrust. At the same time, Ren Xiaoyao's entire strength surged forth, soaring upwards and pouring into his beloved's body.
With a "smack," Lin Yuxiu's entire body pressed against Ren Xiaoyao's embrace, her starry eyes tightly closed, shyly accepting this overwhelming power. Ren Xiaoyao erupted endlessly, the girl's delicate lower body contracting wave after wave, his masculine essence filling her fragile secret place, even flowing outwards.

That evening, Unohana Retsu came to examine Ren Xiaoyao again. After a brief check, she pulled Su Hanbi outside to discuss the next prescription for the medication.
Just then, Lin Yuxiu walked in. Ren Xiaoyao, seeing her casually dressed in a light shirt, her figure alluring, chuckled and leaned closer, saying with a grin, "Xiuxiu, want to do it again?"
Lin Yuxiu's face flushed, and she politely declined, "No, Sister Hanbi already scolded me."
Ren Xiaoyao asked, "Said what?"
Lin Yuxiu said shyly, "She said...she said I almost made your wound reopen."
Ren Xiaoyao laughed heartily, "Hahaha, nothing like that! Even if we did it twice more, it wouldn't matter."
Lin Yuxiu's face turned completely red, and she scolded, "Don't...don't talk nonsense! Lie down, you need to rest."
Ren Xiaoyao said glibly, "Okay, then you'll sleep with me."
"Bang—" The door was suddenly kicked open, and Shui Furong, looking flustered, stumbled in, exclaiming, "Something terrible has happened... What time is it? Why are you still here..."
Ren Xiaoyao assumed she was being jealous again and said nonchalantly, "What time is it? It's time to sleep."
Shui Furong glared at her fiercely and said angrily, "I don't have time to joke with you. News just came from Xuye Palace that Captain Aizen has been assassinated, and Sister Su and Sister Unohana have already rushed over!"
