Making sex a form of entertainment

    page views:1  Publication date:2016-01-12
Sex as entertainment is already a social reality, and a considerable number of people are practicing it. The recent trend among urban white-collar workers and intellectuals of couples engaging in casual sex and transparent infidelity is a significant and positive exploration of this phenomenon. The current challenge is how to break through outdated sexual concepts, including notions of chastity, sexual monogamy, the idea that sex is only possible with love, and the notion that couples must be sexually faithful. This would allow more people to understand, accept, and boldly experiment with sexual entertainment, collectively creating a healthy, civilized, and vibrant new social sexual culture.
Sex as entertainment has historical roots. In feudal society, the highest symbol of power, the emperor, was the first to turn sex into entertainment, amassing harems of hundreds or even thousands of beautiful women for this purpose. High-ranking officials, wealthy merchants, and other affluent individuals kept numerous wives and concubines for sexual entertainment. In modern society, bureaucrats and warlords could have dozens of concubines. Furthermore, princes and nobles frequented brothels and taverns. In modern times, powerful figures, high-ranking officials, and wealthy businessmen keep mistresses, keep concubines, and engage in unspoken rules for sexual entertainment. When ordinary people turn to sex, they can only resort to clandestine affairs for sexual entertainment. People habitually refer to brothels as "places of pleasure," meaning entertainment venues. This shows that people have long considered sex a form of entertainment, and visiting brothels was solely for enjoyment, not for procreation or continuing the family line.
However, this kind of sexual entertainment was primarily for a small number of wealthy and powerful people, for men. Ordinary people and women who participated in sexual entertainment were considered immoral and guilty of male thievery and female prostitution. Therefore, we must transform sexual entertainment from a minority-only, male-dominated, clandestine, and distorted activity into an open and normal form of entertainment that everyone can enjoy, shared by both men and women.
Sex as entertainment should no longer be bound by old morals and traditions. Sexual activity should be free, voluntary, pleasurable, and free from discrimination. Furthermore, sex as entertainment should include: sex between spouses, between lovers, between friends, between strangers, sex with love, and sex without love. As long as it is consensual and entertaining, it is beyond reproach.
Many literary masterpieces, both ancient and modern, from China and abroad, depict sexual acts, often from the perspective of sexual entertainment. Examples include *Jin Ping Mei*, *Anna Karenina*, *La Dame aux Camélias*, *The Red and the Black*, *Lady Chatterley's Lover*, and the recent Hong Kong 3D film *
Sex and Zen*. Sex as entertainment has resolved a centuries-old entanglement between couples regarding sexual matters. Due to this liberation of thought, couples no longer experience jealousy and resentment over who they have sex with. This also eliminates the market for sex trafficking. Some advocate establishing red-light districts in China, which are essentially brothels. I disagree. I do not approve of tainting the most beautiful and pleasurable aspect of human nature—sex—with commercialism, turning the sacred woman into a commodity. I advocate reforming outdated and rigid sexual concepts, allowing more people to freely and equally enjoy sexual pleasure.
Sex does not require fidelity or monogamy. Who one has sex with depends on desire and passion. If there is desire and passion, then it is permissible. If not, there is no need to force it. This fully embodies the principles of freedom, voluntariness, and autonomy in sexuality. This is an individual's sexual right, and also a basic human right.
It means that sexual entertainment is no longer the exclusive domain of the wealthy and powerful, just like mahjong in China, which used to be a refined pastime for the upper class, but now it's commonplace. Sexual intercourse, like dancing a ballroom dance, is relaxed, free, enjoyable, and comfortable—why not? I suddenly realized that dancing and sex are quite similar, whether it's the release of emotions, the psychological catharsis, or that alluring ambiguity. It's essentially a civilized form of male-female sexual intercourse. The initial resistance to the popularization of ballroom dancing was immense, and even today, some people still cannot accept it. The resistance to sex is even more unimaginable. However, the tide of the times is unstoppable. One day, sex will become entertainment, just like playing mahjong or dancing, accepted and enjoyed by more people.
It's a concept. Once this concept is understood and accepted, the era of sex as entertainment—the era of sexual ecstasy—will arrive.
