Why do men like the allure of stockings?

Why do men like the allure of black stockings?

Why do men like women wearing black stockings? 1. Women in black stockings are subtly seductive, which is appealing. 2. Black stockings represent "evil," attracting both SM enthusiasts and ordinary men with "righteous intentions." 3. Black makes legs appear whiter and longer, fulfilling a basic biological purpose—attracting the opposite sex. 4. "Silk" implies tearing.
I'll try to think about this from the perspective of "black stockings." First, consider "black." Imagine if the stockings in the picture were purple (like violet), wouldn't they also be somewhat alluring? What about other colors: white, green, yellow? Aren't they less alluring than the last? What is black? According to Wikipedia: Black can be defined as the visual impression experienced when no visible light reaches the eye. (Black means no visible light enters the visual field). Because black means "invisible," it is a "hidden color." A night-clothes outfit can make you disappear into the darkness, or as Ai Weiwei poetically put it, "make you disappear into space." Therefore, it's a very "dull" color.

But understanding black, especially black clothing, from another perspective reveals a second characteristic. In old England, there was a group of dandies who, while not of noble birth, were wealthy, bourgeoisie, and often Puritans. Due to their religion, they had to wear black year-round. How did they satisfy their desire to emulate aristocratic taste? The answer lies in meticulous detailing of their clothing, from the fabric of the cuffs to the material of the buttons—everything was carefully chosen. They especially liked to add subtle embellishments to inconspicuous places, details that others wouldn't notice, but which brought them great satisfaction. This behavior reflects another characteristic of black: "flamboyance." "Dull" on one hand, "flamboyance" on the other—combined, it becomes "subtle flirtation"! Indeed, subtle flirtation is one of the key reasons why black stockings must be "black" to be effective. A woman covering her legs in black is like painting her body with a subtly seductive color. How could a woman who's usually reserved but can be seductive in crucial moments not be attractive to men? One female classmate even remarked, "Isn't a subtly seductive personality a popular personality trait among the masses?" Let's look at "black" from a less-than-ideal "phenomenological" perspective.

Most civilizations use "black" to symbolize evil, and people's attitudes towards evil are essentially twofold: submission or resistance. We know that those involved in Sadomasochism (SM) often wear black, especially the sadist, which metaphorically represents the ravages of evil on the weak, with the weak submitting to it. I believe those who enjoy masochism don't fantasize about being abused by a "Little Dragon Girl," right? If the other person represents "evil," and you are fully capable of fighting against it, and the "spoils" of victory satisfy you, what would you choose? Of course, you would "act on behalf of heaven"! Therefore, a woman wearing black stockings will arouse a man's desire to "dominate," a goal that aligns with the principles of evolutionary biology. Black has two advantages: it makes people appear fairer and makes legs look longer. Most Chinese people have "black eyes, yellow faces, and a perpetually worried expression." Being of "yellow race" means our skin tone can't compete with Europeans in terms of whiteness, but to stand out in this sea of yellow, people, especially women, go to great lengths to make themselves less yellow, the most common approach being "bleaching" their skin. This leads to another question: "Why do Chinese men generally prefer fair-skinned women?" We won't discuss that here; let's just use "fair-skinned women are good" as the conclusion.

Also, note the characteristics of stockings: the stockings become increasingly "thin" towards the thigh—I don't know the best word to describe it, but it means that by the upper part of the stockings, they're stretched very thin, so the black becomes less pronounced towards the top, making the legs appear whiter to men (due to the contrast with the lower black). Since black highlights the "whiteness" of the skin, what else would you wear?

As for why black makes legs look longer, I don't know either (another question worth exploring), but that's the visual effect. But what's so good about long legs? This requires an answer from evolutionary biology. Long, slender legs are a strong sexual suggestion—implying to the opposite sex that the woman possesses good fertility. This is why it's a male instinct to like long-legged women. Okay, now that we've covered the "black" in "black stockings," the remaining "stockings" are easier to explain. Why must it be stockings? Let's use the old method: comparison. Think about it: for the same woman, wearing black stockings, black pantyhose, a black long skirt, black jeans, and black winter trousers (the kind worn in the dead of winter), doesn't the level of allure decrease progressively? If we want to explain the allure of stockings in the simplest terms, we can use this: "Silk means tearing." Because silk is the most delicate fabric, it's the least effective and most vulnerable element in the "covering" function of clothing. People pick on the softest persimmons, let alone stockings. The harder something is to tear, the less allure it has. Of course, the extreme case is wearing no stockings, exposing two bare, white legs.
