Legend of the Yakuza - 9

    page views:1  Publication date:2023-03-24
I deeply understand the same pain as Lina. If she has a weakness, I think it's that she, like me, has no ambition for the underworld itself, yet she's willing to do anything to protect the legacy of her loved ones. For me, it's you and the Lavron Gang; for her, it's the existence of the White Whale Gang. That's why I brought you here.”
But that's all it is! It's useless. Although Elijah has found Lina's weakness—her attachment to the White Whale Gang—the problem is, if I could easily destroy the White Whale Gang, I wouldn't need to bother finding Lina's weakness.
Elijah left the flowers and we departed together. Little Zhen even bowed to this unfamiliar dead woman.
As we left the cemetery, someone unexpected was waiting for us. Her face was covered in sweat, she was panting, and her clothes were half-soaked with sweat; she had clearly just arrived. With her face glistening with sweat and her hair disheveled, she was the alluring and cold-blooded heroine of the underworld, Lina. Behind her were more than a dozen members of the White Whale Gang.
My side wasn't just the three of us; there were seven or eight bodyguards hidden in the shadows, so we weren't at a disadvantage.
I said calmly, "What a coincidence! Miss Lina, are you here to pay respects to your deceased husband and children?"
Her gang members behind her assumed a fighting stance, and Little Zhen stood in front of me, ready to defend.
Lina coldly told us, "Thank you for coming to pay respects to my husband and children, but we are enemies, so please don't come again."
Then, in a threatening tone, she said, "Many despicable people have tried to desecrate my husband and children's graves, and I have never shown mercy to such shameless individuals. Although we are enemies, I hope you will maintain your composure and not become such despicable people in the future."
I could guess that Lina had always had people guarding her husband and children's graves, though not many. If I were to desecrate their graves, they probably would have already done so. The gravediggers, fearing I might have ulterior motives, were alarmed by my sudden arrival as the leader of a rival gang and immediately contacted Lina, hence her hasty arrival. It's likely that many members of the White Whale Gang are on their way.
However, her presence indicates she has no intention of assassinating me here. Killing and fighting at her husband's and children's gravesite would probably disturb their peace.
"While I'm not exactly a saint, I still have some manners. Seeing the carvings of you and your husband on the grave, I can't help but lament not being born ten years earlier. Then I could have personally fought your heroic husband and witnessed Miss Lina's youthful beauty. My apologies for today; our next meeting will likely be on the battlefield."
Protected by Xiao Zhen, we left the cemetery. Lina, behind us, stopped her subordinates from attacking.
"Alia! Does Lina, who lost her son, really like children?"
"Yes! She occasionally donates to orphanages."
I laughed heartily, "A mob boss donating to an orphanage!"
Little Zhen asked, "Why is Elios laughing?"
"Nothing." Rather than finding an opportunity to assassinate Lina, I had another idea. That was to possess Lina, make her bear my child, and then use the child to control her. The White Whale Gang would then naturally become mine, though this was far more difficult than assassinating her.
Whether by coincidence or fate, that very night, during my battle with the White Whale Gang, a truly large-scale brawl broke out.
The people left behind on the pleasure boat sent a messenger on horseback to report that the main force of the White Whale Gang was attacking, numbering over several hundred.
Having not fought in a long time, my blood boiled immediately, and I summoned men from various territories to attack. I ordered Sheila to stay at the White House, but my top warrior, Mo Shi'ai, was out and had not returned. I don't care about all these years; as long as I have my strong and powerful bear-tribe aunt Elena and the loyal heifer Jane by my side, I have nothing to fear.
Prince Karugu commands the empire's navy, and the pleasure boats anchored in the harbor are also under his control. He can send his officials to seize any pleasure boats outside at any time. Therefore, after the war with the White Whale Gang, I moved most of the prostitutes from the pleasure boats back to land and reopened the red-light district that had closed down.
However, completely abandoning the pleasure boats would be too financially devastating; selling the boats would be a losing proposition, as the expensive renovations I invested would be useless at the time of sale. So I only kept a small number of prostitutes and staff to maintain operations.
At the same time, the pleasure boats also serve as a trap for dealing with the White Whale Gang, because I want to repeat the method I used against Pablodia last time—setting fire to the boats to deal with the attacking enemy.
Strategies don't need to be old-fashioned; what matters is that they look real when used. I believed the prostitutes and men I left on the pleasure boat were enough to deceive Lina, the leader of the White Whale Gang. This was a ruse; I'd lure the enemy aboard and then set the boat on fire.
Spreading out in several carriages, my few hundred men reached the dock area in half an hour.
The White Whale Gang was attacking the pleasure boat from both land and sea. There were dozens of boats at sea, each capable of carrying dozens of people, and three or four hundred men on land. This number was much smaller than I had anticipated; I had expected the White Whale Gang to send at least a thousand to two thousand men.
A question arose in my mind: had Lina seen through my trick, or was this a feint?
"Ellios, shouldn't we move out?"
I couldn't answer Little Jane's question; hundreds of eager men awaited my command.
Just then, shouts of battle erupted from the forests on either side of the dock, and large groups of men surged out.
Oh no! This time, Lina's plan backfired, and the White Whale Gang had ambushed and attacked their reinforcements. In an instant, panic gripped everyone's spirits.
"Don't be afraid! Once we've dealt with the enemies ahead and reached the pleasure boat, we'll be safe!" I shouted, trying to calm my men down.
We were surrounded on three sides, but the White Whale Gang, blocking our path, was also being attacked from both sides by us and the people on the pleasure boat. I'd been through far more dangerous situations before; this level of trap wouldn't kill me. With that confidence, I swung my spiked club and led the charge.
On the narrow dock, blocking our way was Elizabeth of the White Whale Gang. This time was different; she was dressed and no longer fighting naked.
Elizabeth stood against the wind, her long golden hair blowing in the sea breeze. She wore a tight-fitting white dress, but in her hand she held her signature weapon, the Illusion Blade. The white dress was stained with the blood of my men, its tight fit highlighting the slender curves of her body beneath, making her look like a female demon—beautiful yet ruthless.
"This time you won't escape! Prepare to die!" Elizabeth licked the blood from the blades and charged forward like a whirlwind.
Without a word, Elena frowned and attacked, her heavy axe slicing along the ground towards Elizabeth's delicate leg.
Elizabeth leaped into the air, raising her sword to strike me.
Now was no time for mercy; I swung my spiked club, creating a whistling sound as it struck her blade.
"Clang!" With a loud crash, Elizabeth was sent flying. Little Jane beside me charged forward to give chase. A flurry of swords and clubs clashed as the four of us fought.
Although Elizabeth was outnumbered and outmatched, the pier's width was limited, and with the support of the White Whale Gang behind her, she wouldn't be defeated so quickly.
My hundreds of men were crammed onto the pier, while the main force of the White Whale Gang had already arrived behind us.
Suddenly, several bloodcurdling screams erupted from behind. Turning around, I saw several jets of crimson blood spurting skyward. My men retreated in disarray, trampling each other, many falling into the sea.
Lina, clad in her red armor, brought with her a storm of blood, just like her nickname, the Crimson Storm.
It was clear that Elizabeth was a disciple of her leader, Lina; her movements were like a dance, fluid and rhythmic, her Crimson Sun Blade tearing limbs and leaving blood everywhere.
I wasn't the foolish leader to sacrifice myself to save my men, but at this critical moment, someone had to hold Lina off. I didn't want Little Zhen to risk her life, and Elizabeth was my sister-in-law. With no one else available, I had no choice but to go myself. Besides, this was the first duel between the two leaders; we couldn't afford to lose face.
"Little Yi, Little Zhen! Finish off the enemy quickly so we can retreat to the ship."
"Ellios! Let me go in your place!" Little Zhen cried out, but I shook my head and refused.
Parting the retreating troops, I greeted Lina's arrival, mace in hand.
In a bloody storm, Lina's crimson crystal armor was covered in blood as she coldly and domineeringly confronted me with her blade.
More than a dozen of my dead and wounded men lay on the ground, one of them, cut in half at the waist, still crawling towards me.
"Go, leader! Avenge our brothers! Kill this vicious witch!" My men shouted their encouragement, their voices trembling with fear.
They were all useless, I cursed inwardly.
Some of my men who had fallen into the sea earlier tried to escape by swimming towards the pleasure boat instead of climbing onto the dock, while the White Whale Gang chased after these poor souls in their warships. It was only then that my men on the pleasure boat remembered to send out ships to provide support, and the two sides began to fight each other on the sea in small boats.
I shifted my attention back to Lina. With a swift swing of her longsword, my critically wounded, crawling subordinate was pierced through the head and impaled on the ground. Blood splattered all over her; Lina's ruthlessness sent chills down my spine.
"Your methods are far from what you appear to be."
I swung my club at Lina, but she dodged, her blade flashing towards my side like a venomous snake. Startled
, I quickly parried with my club, using the end of my spiked club to block the blow.
"Clang..." The crisp sound of clashing weapons echoed through the air.
"I'm not used to talking to enemies. You'd better just die!"
Lina's strength was not only astonishing, comparable to mine, but her speed far surpassed mine, and her offense and defense were incredibly agile.
Of all the opponents I had encountered, she was only weaker than Marina when she exerted all her strength.
She was like a female Grim Reaper, ruthless and cruel, yet her movements were so graceful, so incongruous with her clear, beautiful eyes, so alluring.
In this situation, I could only use clumsiness to counter skill, strength to resist her agility and speed, fighting and retreating, not seeking victory but only to avoid defeat.
"How can you win by only defending and not attacking? If you're a man, then face me head-on!" The White Whale Gang members cheered loudly at Lina's words, intensifying their attack.
"As long as I can win, who cares about the methods? I'm in the underworld, not a chivalrous hero!"
My useless henchmen echoed my words, barely managing to withstand the White Whale Gang's raging onslaught.
Lina's attacks were relentless and sharp, wave after wave, giving me the feeling that she was desperate for victory. Logically, at this point, she didn't have any reason to need a quick win.
I slowly retreated, while Little Jane and Little Yi attacked Elizabeth from both sides, slowly advancing. At this rate, we should be able to either kill or force the White Whale gang members under Elizabeth's command to jump into the sea and board the pleasure boat.
At that moment, Lina gritted her teeth and soared into the air. No! It shouldn't be called jumping, it should be called flying. She rapidly flapped the thin metal plates on the back of her armor, which resembled insect wings, briefly taking flight and landing in the very center of our group.
Then she began a bloodbath behind me, her Crimson Sun Blade flashing like a meteor, each strike killing or wounding one of my men.
"Whoosh... Help..."
My useless men were no match for Lina; she was practically a crimson demon, not even sparing those already wounded and unable to fight, finishing them off with a final blow.
I, on the other hand, faced the ordinary White Whale gang members, who were naturally no match for me either.
"Clang!" Each time our weapons clashed, I beat them, blade and all, until their blades shattered, their heads bleeding, their bones broken, leaving them lying dead on the spot.
For every White Whale Gang member I killed, Lina killed two of my men. And her methods were far more elaborate and brutal than mine, which was a huge disadvantage for us.
Morale is paramount in gang warfare; without it, some cowards will naturally try to escape. Once more and more people start fleeing, the tide will turn.
"Don't be so slow! Send a few more boats to pick up the people!"
I shouted to the small boats dispatched from the flower boats. My men on the boats attacked the White Whale Gang members with arrows while simultaneously hauling people from the dock onto the boats.
Fortunately, these reinforcements prevented me from being completely wiped out. Otherwise, with the White Whale Gang outnumbering my men, I would have been caught in a pincer attack by Lina and her forces. In that situation, I would have had to escape as soon as possible.
The situation was becoming increasingly chaotic. I ordered my men to return to the flower boats and bring out all the boats they could. Then, they would fire arrows at the people on the shore and evacuate our personnel. The White Whale Gang adopted the same tactic, but instead of picking up Elizabeth's men, they were also on the verge of collapse under the combined attack of Jane and Elizabeth. Meanwhile, the main force of the White Whale Gang advanced steadily towards the docks. Simultaneously, small boats from both sides clashed at sea, resulting in a chaotic battle. Victory depended on numbers and luck.
At this point, I couldn't remain at the rear any longer. I jumped onto one of our small boats to direct the battle. The boat was crammed with over ten people, and another dozen clung to the hull in the water.
"Move the boat next to Jane and Elizabeth to support them. And give me the bow and arrows."
Aiming at Elizabeth, whose white clothes were stained with blood as she fought Jane and Elizabeth, I fired several arrows, further worsening her situation.
Seeing this, Lina shouted, "Get out of the way! Anyone who blocks my path will die!" She then charged towards Xiao Zhen and Xiao Yi, sword in hand. I still had over a hundred men left on the dock, but these useless fools were so afraid they made way for me.
I aimed a powerful arrow at Lina's chest.
The arrow flew with a thunderous sound, but Lina only glanced at it, a flash of silver light in her hand, and she had already cleaved the arrow in two, then rushed to Elizabeth's side.
After the small boat approached the dock, I jumped aboard and joined the battle. Since Xiao Zhen was used to fighting bare-handed, mostly using her horns, I had her deal with Elizabeth. I, along with Xiao Yi, fought Lina.
Don't let Xiao Yi's small stature fool you; her brute strength is truly astonishing. Wielding a giant axe, she cleaved at Lina, and even her crimson crystal armor probably couldn't withstand a single blow.

(Episode 4, Chapter

1: The Naked Mermaid
) Xiao Yi's movements were large, but so were her openings. When she paused after an attack, that was Lina's chance to counterattack. My role was to cover Xiao Yi while providing support with a spiked club.
The two groups fought fiercely for over half an hour, with neither side gaining the upper hand. However, the dock had already been occupied by the White Whale Gang, led by Lina and Elizabeth, who were attacking us. On the sea, the small boats of both sides attacked each other while simultaneously firing arrows to support their comrades on shore.
Just then, Mo Shi'ai arrived with two or three hundred men. I later learned that he was late because he was drunk, and after sobering up, he hurriedly gathered his men and rushed over.
The battle situation suddenly shifted to us attacking the White Whale Gang from both sides, but since they outnumbered us, even being attacked from both sides wasn't too disadvantageous.
If I were to send reinforcements now, they wouldn't arrive for another hour or two, which would be too late. During this time, if any reinforcements from the White Whale Gang arrived, Mo Shi'ai's two or three hundred men would inevitably be wiped out.
At this moment, a plan came to me. Although both sides had equally matched fleets of warships... This was largely thanks to Prince Kaguru's support for the White Whale Gang. However, in the past, to deal with Perbodia, my training in naval warfare was definitely earlier than that of the White Whale Gang, so we should have the advantage in a naval battle.
I shouted to Little Jane and Little Elizabeth, "Take your men and retreat to the pleasure boats. If the enemy catches up, set the boats on fire."
I jumped onto a boat that could carry more than thirty people and quickly ordered, "Brothers in the gang, listen up! Now concentrate your forces and take down all the White Whale Gang's boats."
Lina left Elizabeth to fight Little Jane and Little Elizabeth, not seeking victory but just to keep them occupied so that our men could not retreat. She also jumped onto a White Whale Gang boat.
If we won the naval battle, we could use the boats to transport my men ashore in batches to rendezvous with Moshiai. We could suppress the White Whale Gang on the docks, depriving them of food and water and unable to rest, and we could also use the powerful crossbows on the boats to attack them from beyond the range of arrows.
In terms of fleet strength, both sides were evenly matched, but I believed my men would prevail due to their superior seamanship. I gathered twenty or thirty of my small and medium-sized ships, including the military vessels Kaguru had given me, and seized favorable winds and positions to launch long-range attacks with bows, crossbows, and small catapults.
However, Lina gave me no chance. She chose one of the best ships from the White Whale Gang and personally steered it in pursuit. She was a mermaid raised in the sea, and her boatmanship skills were unmatched on both sides. The ship she steered and controlled the sails of was like a galloping horse on the sea, shaking off the obstruction of my ships and heading straight for my vessel.
"Fire arrows! Shoot!"
Dozens of rockets were fired from her ship, while Lina moved to the bow to personally direct the counterattack, dividing her men into two groups: one group fired arrows in retaliation, and the other group extinguished the rockets that hit the ship.
"Die!"
When the two sides were within a dozen feet of each other, Lina leaped through the air, swooping down like an eagle, and in the process, killed two of my men.
Centered on me, the White Whale Gang's ships rushed over one after another, turning the battle into a boarding battle on the ships.
The current situation was that the people on the ships were fighting on the ships, and the people on the docks were fighting on the docks, each fighting independently without supporting each other.
Lina's offensive was more urgent and faster than at the beginning, it could be said that she was launching a preemptive attack. On my own, I would be lucky to even stand undefeated, let alone defeat her.
Faced with Lina's fierce attack, her mercury-like, all-pervasive blade strikes, I could only try to delay and escape as much as possible. After all, I wasn't the only one fighting here. If Xiao Zhen and Xiao Yi, or Mo Shi Ai, gained the upper hand, they would naturally come to my aid.
"You're quite the runner, aren't you!"
"You flatter me! It's an honor to have a beautiful woman chasing after me."
"Is all you good for is sweet talk?"
At this moment, once again, I used my spiked club to block Lina's murderous Crimson Sun Blade. Suddenly, I felt a surge of heat from the blade; Lina's strength had increased again.
I kicked her leg with all my might, but Lina nimbly dodged, leaping up and performing a somersault to avoid it, separating our blades and clubs.
I continued to escape from one boat to another, while Lina relentlessly pursued me, boat after boat.
Then, she shouted, her blade flashing with a bright light as she slashed down from the sky.
Seeing the danger, I naturally wouldn't take the blow head-on, and I rolled away on the deck.
After a deafening crash, Lina had actually cleaved the entire small boat beneath her in two.
Lina's Crimson Crystal Armor is truly a treasure. Beyond her brief flight ability, I've never seen anyone wearing armor possess such speed.
Does this armor have any weaknesses? As I pondered this, I realized that I had unknowingly been forced into a corner of the fleet by Lina, with only one or two ships left for me to escape. The other ships were all behind Lina, and on those ships, my men were already locked in a fierce battle with the White Whale Gang, making it difficult to distinguish friend from foe.
I had no way to retreat, but there was another option: jump into the sea and swim to another ship. However, there was a problem: Lina, in her full armor, couldn't jump into the water, yet she was a mermaid born of the ocean. What if she actually removed her armor and jumped into the sea to fight me?
From Lina's movements, I sensed a growing anxiety. Her eagerness to win was palpable. Under the relentless, tidal wave of attacks from her Crimson Sun Blade, everyone except me either perished under her blade or jumped into the sea to escape to other ships.
Faced with my unwavering defensive stance, Lina finally ceased her offensive. She retreated, kneeling on one knee, supporting herself with her blade as she panted, looking utterly exhausted.
"If I'm not mistaken, your armor must be enchanted. That's why you can wear heavy armor yet move with such agility. Now the magic is used up, so you can't move even if you wanted to, or perhaps you've simply run out of strength."
Lina didn't answer me, remaining motionless.
Just today I was thinking about how to find an opportunity to force this female gang leader to become pregnant, to make her submit to me, body and soul. I never expected the opportunity to arise tonight. Heaven has truly been kind to me.
I grinned maliciously as I pressed towards Lina, and at the same time, I could see a glint of excitement in her eyes.
Just as I sensed danger, I heard a whooshing sound behind me—probably some hidden weapon or arrow. Dodging it would have been easy. But Lina unleashed her most ferocious attack, her Crimson Sun Blade scattering silver light across the sky, slashing in a beautiful arc.
Damn it! Lina must have seen someone behind me and was planning to shoot an arrow, then deliberately feigned retreat.
If I were hit by this blade, I'd be dead for sure. I had no choice but to take the blow head-on while trying to dodge to the side.
"Clang!"
The clash of weapons rang out, the sound of metal against metal ringing out. The hidden arrow struck my buttocks, instantly causing excruciating pain.
To avoid the second arrow that was about to be shot, and Lina's pursuit, I recklessly jumped into the sea.
I thought to myself that even though Lina was a mermaid, it would take her some time to remove all that armor.
The seawater soaked into my wound, making me want to scream for help. But my pride as a gang leader forced me to endure, searching the vast ocean for the closest of our ships.
Unfortunately, as the saying goes, misfortunes never come singly; the closest was over a hundred feet away, and there were others that were relatively close, but they were all crewed by the White Whale Gang. And to make matters worse, there was another dangerous creature swimming in the water:
a shark!
The two gangs were fighting like this on the coastal docks, and countless corpses and wounded men had fallen into the sea. It was no wonder that the stench of blood in the sea attracted a large group of sharks. I was just too busy fighting my enemies on the boat to notice it before.
"Splash!"
A wounded member of the White Whale Gang, floating not far away, screamed and disappeared into the sea, probably becoming shark food.
I was in a situation where there was no way forward and pursuers behind me. Moreover, although the wound on my buttocks wasn't serious, prolonged immersion in seawater would eventually lead to death from excessive blood loss.
It seemed that I should swim back to the boat; fighting Lina while wounded would give me a better chance of survival.
However, Lina stayed by the boat and wouldn't let me get on. I watched in fear as the sharks continuously dragged new victims into the sea, wondering when it would be my turn.
Time passed by, and the unmanned boat continued to drift out to sea, farther and farther away from the shore.
"Is it enough time?" Lina cried out anxiously, collapsing onto the ship as her armor and the knife in her hand emitted a bright light simultaneously.
