Volume 1 Gene Recombination Chapter 83 Everything's Gone Wrong
"Oh? Then I don't know if you're an enemy or a friend?" Hearing the cat's words, Shi Changqing didn't care at all. Although his face didn't change, he became wary. Just by sensing the cat's energy level, Shi Changqing knew that this girl, who seemed to be a cat demon in disguise, was not so simple.

"Well, to the Evil Serpent King herself, I'm her servant, but to you, I shouldn't be." The cat blinked her big eyes, her long eyelashes fluttering playfully with her blinking eyelids, her eyes flashing with an expression that Shi Changqing couldn't understand.

"Servant?" Looking the cat up and down, Shi Changqing wasn't sure. Could a cat and a snake be friends? They were mortal enemies. But thinking that they weren't Earth creatures, Shi Changqing nodded in relief.

"Lady Demon Flower sent us a distress signal because the Black Dragon God has also brought many powerful helpers here. With just you and Lady Demon Flower's strength, it will be difficult to deal with the Dragon God and his forces." Cat continued speaking, her arms wrapped around Shi Changqing's neck, her cute face smiling as she spoke.

"Uh... why didn't she tell me?" Shi Changqing frowned, secretly angry with Yuan Fei. Such a big thing, and she didn't even inform him? At least he was the successor of the Evil Serpent King, her comrade-in-arms, and they had consummated their marriage last night.

"Maybe she didn't have time. By the way, I heard you taught the Dragon God a lesson and even killed that damned Tang Long. That was truly gratifying." Cat continued to rub against Shi Changqing, their posture like that of a deeply loving couple, but their conversation was anything but ordinary.

"Killing him was unexpected. I didn't want to kill anyone, but he deliberately provoked me." Feigning innocence, Shi Changqing placed his hands on the cat's waist and began to stroke it. Since it had offered itself up, he figured he might as well take advantage.

"The Demon Flower Master didn't tell you their purpose, hehe. If you had known, you would have wiped them all out. Um, that woman is coming up now. I'll contact you later. By the way, if you see a beautiful woman around and notice anything unusual about her, don't act rashly. She might be your friend." The cat exhaled a fragrant breath, blinked, and left Shi Changqing's body, walking straight to her room and pushing open the door.

Just as she entered, footsteps sounded at the top of the stairs on the second floor. Yin Hong came up, and seeing Shi Changqing standing outside her door smiling at her, Yin Hong quickly walked over, casually placing her hands on Shi Changqing's shoulders, and offering her lips.

"I missed you so much," Shi Changqing exclaimed, responding to Yin Hong's kiss. He used his tongue to pry open her lips, finding her soft breasts and swirling them together. One hand rose and fell on Yin Hong's large breasts, kneading them.

"Mmm... um... Changqing, you haven't come in so long. You know I was afraid you wouldn't come back to see me." Yin Hong kissed Shi Changqing passionately, her breath coming in heavy gasps. Feeling Shi Changqing's large hand kneading her breasts, her body immediately heated up.

"No, how could I forget you? You're such a beauty, I wish I could be with you every day. But you know I have to go to class, so I don't have much time. Let's go inside." With both hands on her breasts, Shi Changqing was in a great mood. Perhaps knowing that the cat demon was in the room across the street, Shi Changqing actually wanted to have sex with Yin Hong at this moment.

"No way, I still have business to do. Didn't you say you wanted to rest? Let's go up to the fourth floor, my daughter might be back soon." Yin Hong refused Shi Changqing's offer to pull her into the room. Although she really wanted to, this was definitely not the time. She'd be busy again soon, and there was no one watching downstairs. She just wanted to come up and see Shi Changqing to ease her longing for him these past few days.

"Okay, then let's talk after you finish your business. I have evening self-study tonight. I'm just taking a stroll. I'll go back later and come see you again tonight." Knowing it was impossible at this time, Shi Changqing only wanted Yin Hong to know that he still cared about her and hadn't forgotten her. He made an excuse and prepared to go back to school.

"Going back again? What if you hadn't come back?" Pouting her cute little lips, Yin Hong stood in front of Shi Changqing like a little girl, saying angrily.

"Impossible, I will definitely come to find you, but you mustn't overwork yourself. With me here tonight, you'll miss out on my amazing skills." Having learned to tease, Shi Changqing spoke without restraint in front of Yin Hong. With a woman like her, only by speaking like this could he make her like him more.

"Hmph...you're so naughty, you made me feel like I was dying again tonight. Even three of us couldn't satisfy you. I really didn't know you were so young, yet you have stamina that several men couldn't match. You're a freak." Blushing, Yin Hong indeed said something that made Shi Changqing proud. However, Shi Changqing didn't care about her mentioning several men. If there really was a competition, his stamina might be unmatched by dozens or even hundreds of men. Of course, this was a pointless comparison; what woman could withstand such a strong blow?

"I'm not a freak, I was born with this amazing skill. If you can't satisfy me, I'll find other women outside." Seeing Yin Hong's expression, Shi Changqing continued. He loved Yin Hong's girlish side, full of love and a mature, flirtatious charm that girls didn't possess.

"Hey, I've been waiting for you to say that. Don't tell me you don't have other women outside, I absolutely won't believe it. But I want to declare that no matter how many women you have outside, I will always have a place in your heart, okay?" The first part of her words were bold and confident, but when she said "okay," Yin Hong lowered her voice, as if she were pleading with Shi Changqing.

"What a magnanimous woman. How could I bear to abandon you? Not now, not in the future, until you grow old, and I grow old too." Thinking this to himself, Shi Changqing didn't say the words that would move Yin Hong to tears. Instead, he smiled and said...

"Absolutely, I admit I have other women, but you're still quite important to me."

"Quite important?" A hint of sadness crossed Yin Hong's face as she lowered her head, but a surge of happiness welled up inside her. For a woman like herself to receive the love of a child—what kind of love was that? In society, women might be called sluts, but young people would be condemned even more harshly. Thinking of this, Yin Hong silently hugged Shi Changqing's waist.

"Yes, quite important, because there's nothing more important in my heart, so you're definitely in the top ten." Shi Changqing's words made Yin Hong smile. She patted Shi Changqing's chest, then looked up and lightly tapped his cheek.

"Let's go, don't delay your business." Taking Yin Hong's hand, Shi Changqing went downstairs. His detection ability was still active, and he discovered that the cat demon had been eavesdropping on his and Yin Hong's conversation and actions. He couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. What made Shi Changqing even more alarmed was that the kitten in Yin Hong's room was missing. Shi Changqing didn't dwell on it, but he already knew the kitten's origin and why it had suddenly appeared at Anqing Hotel instead of Putian High School.

After leaving Anqing Hotel, Shi Changqing didn't linger. He grabbed a quick bite outside the school and returned to his classroom. There were very few students in the class; only Zhang Yu and Shi Xiuyun, whom Shi Changqing recognized, were there. When he entered the classroom, Shi Changqing could clearly feel the resentment and jealousy in Shi Xiuyun's eyes.

"Sigh, how am I supposed to get along with her? My old friend, it's all my fault for making your granddaughter like this." Back in his seat, Shi Changqing sighed, filled with regret. Over this long period, he had noticed a lot about Shi Xiuyun. As the class monitor, she was now quiet and withdrawn, her former cheerfulness replaced by melancholy.

"Changqing, where did you go to seduce some innocent girl again tonight? You didn't even answer my calls." Just as Shi Changqing was pondering how to get back to how things were between him and Shi Xiuyun, Zhang Yu walked over, sat down next to him, and put her arms around his, striking an intimate pose.

"No, I didn't bring my phone." His expression returned to normal, and Shi Changqing took his phone out of the drawer. He saw over a dozen missed calls: three from Zhang Yu, four from Han Qian, the rest from Lan Yue and Li Qiaoli, and one from Zhang Yun. There were also several text messages; Xiao Hongmei and Yan Yue'e had both sent greetings.

"Hey, let me see your phone." Seeing Shi Changqing's furrowed brow, Zhang Yu leaned over, wanting to see who had contacted him, but Shi Changqing refused.

"Give me some privacy. By the way, I have something important to do tonight. Don't look for me after class; it's dangerous." Without replying to the texts and calls, Shi Changqing put his phone away and said softly.

"Are you going to fight those weirdos? Then I definitely need to join! Although I was on their side before, I'm yours now, and I'm pretty strong too." Zhang Yu proudly waved her small arm in front of Shi Changqing. Indeed, as she said, her strength was extraordinary. But Shi Changqing knew that compared to the Dragon God and his ilk, she was less than a pitiful ant.

"No need, I can handle it myself. Remember, you're my woman. I don't want you to get hurt in the slightest, so you have to listen to me, study hard, and manage Jin Di Ju well." Looking at Zhang Yu affectionately, Shi Changqing's words didn't match his heart at all. There was nothing important today, just going to meet Yin Hong. He had so many women, he couldn't possibly take care of them all, but he needed to comfort them at different times. Thinking this, Shi Changqing felt that his lies made him feel so at ease.

"Hehe, I'm relieved to hear that, honey. You're the strongest. Thank you for loving me so much. I'll always be a strong wife behind you, and I'll never allow anyone to take you away from me." Hearing Zhang Yu's loud words, Shi Changqing saw a hint of smugness on her face. Following Zhang Yu's gaze, Shi Changqing saw the person he least wanted to see.

"Changqing, these are desserts I just bought for yourself. You probably didn't eat dinner tonight." As if she hadn't heard Zhang Yu's deliberate words, Han Qian carried a small bag containing an exquisite box and placed it in front of Shi Changqing, speaking with concern like a devoted wife.

"I...I..." Seeing Han Qian, Shi Changqing really didn't know how to answer. Zhang Yu secretly pinched her waist with her fingers. Although it didn't hurt, Shi Changqing still had a headache.

"My Changqing is full. He ate the couple's set meal with me." Zhang Yu raised her head, her big eyes not blinking as she lied, her tone sharp, actually declaring war on Han Qian.

"Hmph, other women can be with Changqing, but not you, little girl." Thinking this, Zhang Yu's arrogance surged. She and Han Qian had never gotten along well, and now with Shi Changqing involved, things were even worse.

"Changqing, this dessert is from me. Here, let me feed you." Ignoring Zhang Yu's words, Han Qian didn't even glance at her. Although her face showed nothing, Han Qian knew in her heart that Shi Changqing and Zhang Yu's relationship was already very close, while she hadn't even had a chance to hold Shi Changqing's hand. This gave Han Qian a slight sense of crisis.

"No, Han Qian, Zhang Yu, you should both go back to your seats. Class is about to start. I'll take the dessert." Impatiently pushing Han Qian's hand away, Shi Changqing desperately wanted to tell Han Qian, "I'm your grandfather. Although I don't know your identity yet, I won't develop anything with you before I know the truth." But he couldn't say those words. To avoid hurting Han Qian's feelings, Shi Changqing still took out the small cake from the dessert and ate it.

"Hmph..." Zhang Yu let out a cold snort, stood up, glanced at Han Qian, and was angry, but definitely not at Shi Changqing. She knew Shi Changqing's characteristics; he would never refuse a woman who threw herself at him. However, Zhang Yu could tell that Shi Changqing was intentionally avoiding Han Qian, as if he was hiding something. This put Zhang Yu at ease.

"What woman? Really, Changqing, you can eat your meal. I'll go back to my seat." Han Qian's politeness left Shi Changqing bewildered. Compared to the previous times, Han Qian was much gentler. He wondered if it was because she saw so many women around him and was trying to be soft and make him give in. Just as this wicked thought crossed his mind, Shi Changqing quickly suppressed it.

"Oh my god, my dear granddaughter, please, please don't fall in love with me, that's against all reason!" (

Chapter 84 of Volume 1, Gene Recombination)
"Changqing, are you free tonight? Qiaoli and I want to come to your place." Just after the first class ended, Shi Changqing received a message from Lan Yue. Looking at this meaningful message, Shi Changqing typed a reply, of course, he had to refuse. Shi Changqing was a very rule-abiding person; having promised Yin Hong, he didn't want to be with any other woman tonight, no matter who.

However, he had promised Lan Yue to go to the dance hall tomorrow night, and of course, the evening's activities would include a threesome. Upon receiving Lan Yue's message, she didn't react much, expressing understanding of Shi Changqing's busy schedule.

As time passed, the two evening self-study sessions quickly came to an end. Shi Changqing had nothing to pack, so before the class ended, he threw all his books into his desk. The moment the bell rang, he dashed out of the classroom with an elegant and dashing air. Xue Ran, sitting at the teacher's desk, frowned at his actions and walked out of the classroom with her books.

"Hmph... the teacher hasn't even left yet, and he's already run off to find another girl. That damned Changqing, that hateful guy." Shi Xiuyun stood up and saw Shi Changqing leaving the classroom first, cursing him inwardly.

"What's wrong with me? How could this happen?" Her mind was in turmoil, but Shi Xiuyun was unaware that she had fallen in love with Shi Changqing in his current identity. Ever since Shi Changqing had done those intimate things with her, Shi Xiuyun had developed completely different feelings for him. However, she didn't realize that those involved are often blinded by their own emotions.

"Changqing, did you see Maomao?" Jue Shi Changqing had just left the classroom and was walking quickly to the door of Class 1 when he bumped into Yuan Fei. Yuan Fei saw the worried expression on Shi Changqing's face and asked curiously.

"Yes, I saw her. I have to go out now, I have something to do." Although he had taken Yuan Fei as a girlfriend, Shi Changqing knew that among all his women, Yuan Fei was the least clingy. Yuan Fei was the kind of woman who wouldn't be jealous no matter how many women you had or what you did to other women. Shi Changqing maintained a balance between warmth and coldness towards such a woman, but escaping was the priority right now. As he turned back to speak, Shi Changqing was already several meters away.

"Hehe, rushing out like this can't be a good thing. Honestly, I told Cat to tell him the big battle is imminent, how come this guy is still so carefree? I must keep an eye on him and see what he's up to tonight." Standing there, Yuan Fei's mind raced. She already knew that the Dragon God had sent a summons to his forces on Earth. Although she didn't have her own men, she had recruited the former Evil Serpent King's subordinates. Considering their monstrous strength, Yuan Fei was quite reassured about the safety of her side, at least it made things much easier.

"Dragon God, Shi Changqing just went to the Anqing Hotel outside the school. Should we have them make their move now?" By the flower pond inside Putian High School, Mo Long, Xiao You, and Zang Hu stood respectfully in front of a handsome man in a sharp suit. Mo Long clasped his hands and bowed his head as he spoke.

"No need. Let's wait until tomorrow morning, in front of the entire school. I want to see how he displays his strength. How's your investigation into his background going?" This man was none other than the Dragon God. Ever since Tang Long's death, the Dragon God had begun his plan. If he waited any longer, he feared his subordinates would die one by one, and he himself would be threatened.

"Your Excellency the Dragon God, I've found out. Shi Changqing's predecessor was a villager from Da Shi Village. He became what he is now due to an accident. If I'm not mistaken, that accident was caused by the Evil Serpent King." The Demon Dragon continued respectfully, a smile appearing on his face, secretly hoping the Dragon God would praise him.

"Hmm, not bad, but this is useless. I need some substantial information, information that can truly threaten him." His eyes turned cold. Although the Dragon God's words lacked authority, the aura emanating from him made the three Demon Dragons tense. "

Dragon God, I don't know if it's true, but Shi Changqing has some connection with Shi Xiuyun in Zang Hu's class, and also with our school teacher, Shi Xinran, and her two daughters—one of the princesses. Shi Xinran is Shi Changqing's daughter." If Shi Changqing heard the Demon Dragon's words, he would be terrified, but the Demon Dragon had gone to great lengths to find out about this connection between Shi Xinran and Shi Changqing.

"Shi Xinran, huh? I was wondering why he would come out to protect the princess. It seems the Evil Serpent King hasn't regained her strength, otherwise she would have appeared already. Proceed according to the original plan. Only act when I give the order. Remember to be careful when you go out. Yuan Fei has also brought a lot of help. I'm going back now." With that, the Dragon God's body instantly transformed into a shadow and disappeared, leaving the three Demon Dragons nodding in agreement.

The lotus flowers in the pond were in full bloom, and many students were enjoying the cool air. Couples sat around the fifty-square-meter pond, whispering sweet nothings, admiring the beauty of the lotus flowers and leaves, and listening to the sparse chorus of frogs.

"Ah... Xiaoqiang, look! The lotus flowers in the pond have all withered!" A couple who were kissing parted, and the blushing girl, noticing the strange phenomenon in the pond, quickly stood up and exclaimed.

Hearing her cry, other students who had already witnessed the phenomenon stood up and began to discuss it amongst themselves. The lotus flowers had been perfectly fine just moments before, but in just a few seconds, the lotus flowers, leaves, and even some aquatic plants in the pond had all died. Under the streetlights illuminating the pond, the once emerald green water had turned a nauseating blood red.

"How could this be? It's terrifying, like a virus from a horror movie." The boy next to the girl looked horrified at the scene. On the surface of the pond, small fish and frogs were floating belly-up, their pale skin exposed, adrift on the blood-red water. Remembering the horror movies he'd seen, the boy quickly pulled the girl away.

One couple left, and then many others followed. Dating in such an environment was too creepy. Within minutes, all the couples by the pond were gone. The blood-red water in the pond bubbled up like boiling water, rotting the withered lotus flowers, frogs, and other plants and creatures. The small pond, once considered a paradise for lovers by the students, had become a filthy mess in just a few minutes.

"Luckily, those students left quickly. That wretched blood toad!" Not far from the pond, Yuan Fei frowned, looking at the pond with worry on her face. Her detection ability had been activated the whole time. When she discovered Shi Changqing's whereabouts, she also discovered a strange creature. Upon investigation, she found that it was the blood toad under the Dragon God's throne causing trouble. Not daring to linger, Yuan Fei withdrew her detection ability and headed straight for Han Qian's residence.

"Hehe, Sister Yin Hong, I'm here to help you." In the lobby of Anqing Inn, Yin Hong was busy registering the students who came to stay at the inn. Her face was covered in sweat. Hearing Shi Changqing's voice, Yin Hong quickly put down her pen and looked at Shi Changqing who had entered the room.

"Oh, perfect timing. Help me take these students to their rooms, and bring them some hot water while you're at it." Yin Hong smiled at Shi Changqing, not daring to show too much emotion. With so many students here, it wouldn't be good if they saw her. She had briefly explained the inn's procedures to Shi Changqing before, and he had already started working.

"Students, come on, give me your room numbers, I'll take you to your rooms." Taking a bunch of room keys from Yin Hong, Shi Changqing enthusiastically called out to the students lining up to register.

"Hey, landlady, you're hiring students from our school? Aren't you afraid someone will accuse you of using child labor?" a young man who looked like a regular customer shouted, his arm around a female student still in her school uniform, a lewd grin on his face.

"Get lost, she already has her ID. Besides, I'm not paying you, I'm just helping out. Hurry up and go to your room. By the way, can your skills satisfy this girl? Don't be so slow after just one or two times, then don't waste your rent." Yin Hong was in this kind of smiling business, and she wasn't bothered by what these young men said to her, as long as they didn't flirt or insult her or say anything that would take advantage of her. Yin Hong would always accept it with a smile.

"Hehe, don't worry, my skills are top-notch. If you don't believe me, come listen outside my door tonight." The young man was obviously arrogant, completely disregarding the female student beside him and the many students around. As he spoke, his eyes sized up Shi Changqing.

"Such a domineering gaze, I've never seen this kid at school before." Thinking haphazardly, the young man put his arm around the girl who was already blushing and went upstairs. He knew this place very well and didn't need any directions. Not only did he not need any, but many students who came here never needed any; they would just take the girls they had arranged to meet directly to their rooms.

"Looks like I can't be of much help." Shi Changqing shrugged helplessly, standing by the bar and giving Yin Hong an apologetic smile.

"Hehe, then help me register and collect money. I'm exhausted this time." Knowing this would happen, Yin Hong plopped down on a chair behind the bar, crossed her legs, and pushed a pen and notebook in front of Shi Changqing.

"Sure, I'm good at this." Taking the pen and notebook, Shi Changqing chuckled. Writing was his forte, and since he only collected round numbers, there was no need for calculations. Recording each person's name and room number was a simple task, and Shi Changqing was much faster than Yin Hong. After

a while, the number of students registering dwindled. Around 9:30, only one student came every ten minutes or so. Putting down his pen, Shi Changqing leaned against the wall behind the bar, glancing sideways at Yin Hong's attire.

"She's not wearing a bra, sigh..." Perhaps to welcome Shi Changqing's arrival tonight, Yin Hong's attire was refreshing. Her tank top featured a cartoon blue cat design, and her breasts, pushed up by the fabric, revealed glimpses of her mounds. A pair of denim shorts that barely covered her thighs further captivated Shi Changqing's gaze, highlighting her adorable, snow-white breasts.

"What are you looking at? My daughter bought this for me. Isn't it childish?" Peering out, Yin Hong blushed at Shi Changqing's gaze, placing her hands on her legs and gazing up at him with affectionate eyes.

"Of course it's not childish, it's incredibly cute and alluring, truly beautiful beyond words," he said playfully. Yin Hong's sweet and lovely voice always stirred a desire in Shi Changqing. Looking at her pink breasts, he longed to kiss them, but feared being seen. This was also the time Yin Hong's daughter, Li Yue, was expected to return, and Shi Changqing dared not act recklessly.

"You're such a smooth talker, but I love hearing it. Tonight I'm going to eat my fill, so you heartless bastard won't come looking for me for a week." Reaching out and squeezing Shi Changqing's crotch, feeling his strength, Yin Hong said excitedly.

"Eat my fill? Of course not! I'll make sure you're stuffed, otherwise how can I face you?" Holding Yin Hong's small hand, Shi Changqing liked her current state. Although it seemed a bit provocative, Shi Changqing knew that this side of Yin Hong was only shown to him, which satisfied him greatly.

"You said it! Tonight I want to try more tricks, like Guanyin sitting on a lotus, old man pushing a cart, monkey climbing a tree—I want to try all the positions you mentioned before." With a shy smile, Yin Hong's words made Shi Changqing break out in a cold sweat.

"Sigh, women who need certain positions are truly terrifying." Shi Changqing sighed inwardly, lowering his head to lightly touch Yin Hong's lips. Tonight might be a night of relaxation for him. Shi Changqing decided to let Yin Hong enjoy the pleasures of being a woman. Thinking this, Shi Changqing nodded vigorously, his actions leaving Yin Hong utterly bewildered. (

Volume 1, Gene Recombination, Chapter 85: Catwoman Complex )
"Oh... um... Changqing, I want to do the Guanyin Lotus Position again, teach me." In a room on the fourth floor of the Anqing Hotel, Yin Hong called out, squatting down and pulling on Shi Changqing's arm. The two had been at it for nearly an hour, but today Yin Hong seemed to be on steroids, her powerful desire terrifying Shi Changqing. Even after losing virginity twice, Yin Hong was still full of energy.

"Hey, the Guanyin Lotus Position is very simple, it's just the man not moving and the woman moving, do I really need to teach you that?" Lying down, Shi Changqing supported Yin Hong's waist, making her sit down, and they joined together again. But Yin Hong didn't move, instead leaning forward, blinking her cute eyes and staring intently at Shi Changqing.

"You're lying to me. The name 'Guanyin Sitting on a Lotus' sounds so beautiful, how could it be such a shameful position?"

"My dear aunt, please spare me! Do you want me to find a DVD that teaches this kind of position for you? Really, I'm not lying to you. This position is very powerful. Try it and see for yourself." With an evil smile, Shi Changqing seemed to be seducing an ignorant little girl. Although Yin Hong was an adult, she didn't know how to do these things Shi Changqing was talking about. Hearing his words, Yin Hong really started thrusting.

"Oh my... it feels so good..." Shaking her head, Yin Hong cried out. The depth of penetration gave her a deep sense of stimulation. But after dozens of thrusts, Yin Hong realized that this position was familiar, as if she had tried it before. But she was excited and didn't care about anything else. She continued the movement, enduring Shi Changqing's strong response. In an instant, the two of them had thrust hundreds of times.

"Changqing, I'm so full today." Squinting, Yin Hong wiped herself and then Shi Changqing's clothes to remove the traces of their passionate encounter. She glanced at the clock on the wall; it was already past 11. They had unknowingly been entangled for nearly two hours.

"Hehe, I'm still not full. You should rest first, or you won't be able to get out of bed tomorrow." Holding Yin Hong's waist, Shi Changqing buried his head in her chest, inhaling her fragrance, and said in a daze.

"No way! Yue'er is definitely not asleep right now. If I don't go back, she'll suspect something. So you sleep by yourself tonight." Holding Shi Changqing's head, Yin Hong's coquettish voice rang out. Sensing Shi Changqing's mischievous antics, Yin Hong quickly pulled back.

"You think you can just leave? Humph, you want me to come, and you won't even stay with me all night? Next time I come, it'll be like this, I'll leave as soon as I'm done." Slightly angry, Shi Changqing had originally intended to stay with Yin Hong all night to comfort her empty heart, but he hadn't expected that Yin Hong hadn't even settled things with her daughter yet.

"Oh, you're angry? I'm sorry, okay? I'll only do it with you one more time. I really have to go sleep with my daughter now. I don't want you to mess with me all night, and then I won't be able to open the door the next day, and I won't be able to do business." As she said this, Yin Hong deliberately spread her legs and pressed herself against Shi Changqing's body. Although she said this, the brooding expression on her face did not escape Shi Changqing's eyes.

"Hehe, no need. I'm not angry with you. Don't worry, go and be with your daughter." Touching Yin Hong's flushed face, Shi Changqing said earnestly. Yin Hong didn't say anything, sat up, and put her clothes back on. Being an experienced woman, she understood men best; she knew that talking too much might really anger Shi Changqing. Before leaving, Yin Hong kissed Shi Changqing's forehead.

"Ugh, so annoying. It's always like this. It's the middle of the night, and you're making me sleep alone. You're so heartless." After Yin Hong left, Shi Changqing sat up and said resentfully, angry like a little boy.

"Knock knock..." Just then, there was a knock at the door. Shi Changqing stared at the door, using his detection power. He knew it couldn't be Yin Hong knocking; even if she came back, she wouldn't knock. Sure enough, under the detection power, Shi Changqing smiled.

"Wait... I've come to open the door for you." Shi Changqing hastily pulled on his pants, jumped out of bed, and strode to the door. He opened it with a broad smile, looking at the girl he'd met once before, a cat dressed in a revealing short skirt.

"Hey, the inheritor of the Evil Serpent King's genes is quite the ladies' man. I never imagined you'd have something going on with the proprietress here." The cat walked into the room without ceremony, went straight to the bed, and sat down. She glanced at Shi Changqing and said casually.

"Heh, that seems to be my private matter. It has nothing to do with your Evil Serpent King's genes. What brings you here so late?" Sitting on the other side of the bed, Shi Changqing picked up a cigarette from the bedside table and lit it. He glanced at the cat, seemingly unintentionally. He wondered how she had somehow become so adorable, with an innocent, immature face that was undeniably cute, but a very voluptuous figure. Her low-cut dress revealed a deep cleavage, and her milky-white skin was alluringly seductive.

"Nothing much, just wanted to tell you to be careful. Lady Yaohua said that the Dragon God's men have already entered the school. She didn't tell you, probably because you're an irresponsible person." The cat was as adorable as ever, completely uninhibited, swinging her legs back and forth, but her words made Shi Changqing frown.

"I'm irresponsible? She's the one who hasn't told me the whole story. I won't concern myself with your personal grudges, but regarding the Dragon God and his group, anyone who tries to harm those around me, I won't let them get away with it." A murderous glint appeared on Shi Changqing's face. He knew the Dragon God's target was Han Qian, his beloved granddaughter. Regardless of how strange her identity was, Shi Changqing was determined to protect her and would not allow anyone to harm her or his daughter.

"That's enough. By the way, you and that woman were quite the ladies' man earlier. It's strange, why do humans like this kind of thing? What's so fun about it?" The cat's curious gaze startled Shi Changqing. He hadn't expected her to ask such a question. An old saying flashed through his mind: curiosity killed the cat.

"Could this be her real purpose for coming here? Hehe..." Thinking this, a strange smile appeared on Shi Changqing's face. He stubbed out his cigarette, sat down, crossed his arms, and feigned composure.

"Actually, everything about us humans is quite mysterious, but the relationship between men and women is what humans crave and need most. Don't you understand humans?" Shi Changqing said slowly.

"I don't know. I've never been in contact with humans before, only monsters and stuff. This is the first time I've transformed into a human, and the first time I've seen a human do this. You seem pretty strong; you made that woman unable to handle it several times." The cat-like creature said innocently, without a trace of shyness on her face, as if her words were perfectly natural, even containing a hint of praise for Shi Changqing's actions.

"That's for sure. I have the power of the Evil Serpent King, that's why I'm so powerful. What's the big deal? I haven't even used my full strength." Knowing the cat-like creature was gradually falling for his trap, Shi Changqing became unrestrained. Looking at this seemingly shrewd cat demon, who actually seemed like a clueless little girl, it seemed that a few words would be enough to coax her into following him into a big affair.

"Haha, cat girl, what a cute girl, I must get her." Setting a goal for himself in his mind, Shi Changqing took off his jeans, making it more comfortable to sit on the bed, and also showing off his magnificent member to the cat-like creature.

"Really? That's something to look forward to. Has Lady Demon Flower experienced human pleasure yet?" Cat Cat's gaze lingered on Shi Changqing's crotch. She swallowed hard; for some reason, seeing that erect object made her nine hearts pound—a rather subtle feeling.

"Uh, she probably told you, didn't she? She's having fun with me." Hearing Cat Cat's words, Shi Changqing was thrilled. Following Cat Cat's gaze, he deliberately twitched a couple of times, making his manhood appear more vibrant.

"Oh, no, she's a master, I'm just a subordinate. Is it really that pleasurable?" Cat Cat continued staring intently at Shi Changqing's crotch, her question laced with excitement. She sat motionless on the edge of the bed, unsure where to put her hands.

"Want to try?" Shi Changqing asked boldly, moving closer to Maomao. Since Yin Hong couldn't stay with him for the night, he'd take down this somewhat naive Maomao. Shi Changqing made up his mind.

"Want... oh, no, I'm so scared, that thing seems really scary." Maomao's face suddenly turned red. She smelled Shi Changqing's unique masculine scent, and her head felt a little dizzy. Of course, that scent wasn't a real man's scent, but rather a slightly fragrant snake-flame aphrodisiac. Pointing at Shi Changqing's huge member, Maomao's eyes widened as she spoke.

"Wrong, that's just the surface. It's not scary at all. You can touch it if you don't believe me." Sitting down next to Maomao, Shi Changqing grinned lewdly, grabbing Maomao's small hand and pulling it to his side. He forced her hand onto his huge member, and Maomao's body trembled violently. Her expression became even more embarrassed.

"So hard, is this a man's weapon?" Cat touched the object in her palm a couple of times, not feeling anything scary. She was curious that such a cylindrical object could make a woman moan with pleasure. "

Of course," Cat boldly asked. "This is a man's proudest weapon, a weapon that can drive all women crazy. You can put your hand in, let me teach you how to operate it." Taking Cat's hand, Shi Changqing pulled down his panties a little, revealing his enormous member, and grasped Cat's hand on it.

"Try moving it up and down a couple of times, see what changes." Releasing her hand, Shi Changqing supported himself with his hands behind him. As soon as he finished speaking, Cat followed his instructions, pulling her hand down slightly.

"Ah... what is this shiny thing? Why is there a tiny slit?" Cat had many strange questions, but her hand kept moving up and down because she found it very fun. One moment, the object was exposed, the next, her panties covered it again.

"Is this edible?" After moving around for a while, the cat suddenly poked her head up and looked at Shi Changqing, asking a question. Hearing her question, Shi Changqing broke out in a cold sweat and quickly covered it with his hand.

"Uh... of course not, it's not food." Looking at the cat with fear, although her teeth were very neat, Shi Changqing was still apprehensive. What if she bit him off? That would be a huge loss. Although he was scared, Shi Changqing really wanted to try the feeling of being held in someone's mouth; perhaps it would be quite wonderful.

“It’s edible. I just saw a man and a woman in the next room. The girl was eating this kind of thing, and she seemed to be enjoying it. The boy seemed very happy, but after just one round of being eaten, he started having sex with the girl.” At this moment, Cat was like an innocent girl, her bright eyes sparkling with curiosity as she spoke of her findings. She even licked her lips with her little tongue, making Shi Changqing almost lose control.

“Then…then you should try it too. Actually, I’ve never tried it, so I don’t know what it feels like.” With a playful smile, Shi Changqing said wickedly. Cat indeed stood up, climbed onto the bed, and knelt in front of Shi Changqing.

“Damn, no wonder this kind of thing is so popular in movies. It’s a deadly pleasure.” Thinking excitedly, Shi Changqing trembled slightly as Cat swallowed him, almost ejaculating several times. Not daring to be distracted, he quickly held his breath and focused his mind, suppressing the restless energy in his lower abdomen.

"Damn, that smells weird. I haven't washed up since I did it with Yin Hong, it'd be strange if it didn't smell." Shi Changqing let out a long breath; the deadly pleasure had just disappeared, and he felt much more relaxed. He knew that Maomao was a cat demon, and her abilities were far beyond what any earthly woman could match. Yuan Fei could make him ejaculate in ten minutes; this Maomao was no ordinary woman either. Staring at Maomao, Shi Changqing cautiously thought,

"I want to try the Guanyin Lotus Position." Seeing Shi Changqing remain silent and panting, Maomao remembered the conversation she overheard between Shi Changqing and the female proprietress, and couldn't help but recall what they had done. Maomao, always curious about everything, was truly astonishing with her words. As soon as she spoke, Shi Changqing sat bolt upright.

"Um... can I take a break? Forget Guanyin sitting on a lotus, I'll do anything, even the old man pushing a cart, the Eighteen Arhats swimming in the river, the Eight Immortals crossing the sea... I'll use every trick in the book to make you feel good." Shi Changqing said breathlessly. He wasn't that bad, but perhaps he underestimated Maomao's strength. The deep throat from earlier hadn't completely worn off, and facing such a powerful catwoman, Shi Changqing didn't want to go for a few seconds and then come down—that would be too embarrassing.

"Yeah, you said it. I want to do it many times, just like that woman." Maomao raised her hands and placed them on Shi Changqing's neck, leaning out to kiss him on the face, but Shi Changqing quickly dodged.

"Hmm? Why are you dodging? I see boys and girls kissing." Frowning, Maomao was very dissatisfied with Shi Changqing's actions, her beautiful lips still glistening with liquid, but she spoke without any regard for the consequences.

"Um... I'm going to take a shower first. You should too. It's a matter of hygiene. As a human being, you have to be hygienic. You have to rinse your mouth before kissing." Shi Changqing practically fled from the bed, quickly pulling up his pants. Before Maomao could say anything more, he ran out, his stomach churning, almost vomiting up his dinner. The thought of Maomao's mouth having just intimately touched his private parts, and then kissing him again, made Shi Changqing feel nauseous.

"Sigh, I've often heard Fatty talk about catgirls in Japanese anime. I never thought I'd run into one myself. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing." In the fourth-floor bathroom, Shi Changqing had no interest in washing himself. He just repeatedly rinsed himself with the shower. He spotted Maomao in the third-floor bathroom, rinsing her mouth, and a smile returned to Shi Changqing's face.

Five minutes later, in Shi Changqing's usual room on the fourth floor, Shi Changqing sat cross-legged on the bed, leisurely smoking a cigarette. His expression was complex; he occasionally flicked the ash from his cigarette, his eyes fixed on the door.

"Sigh, now I finally understand how powerful human thoughts are," he sighed softly to himself. Shi Changqing had already checked twice, but the cat demon was still rinsing her mouth with a toothbrush. He wondered how dirty her teeth were. Was she going to have to rinse until dawn because of something he had said? Shi Changqing thought helplessly.

"Knock knock knock..." Just as Shi Changqing was about to fall asleep, there was finally a knock on the door. Opening his eyes, Shi Changqing glanced at the clock on the wall; it was already past one o'clock. This cat had taken more than an hour to bathe.

"Come in," he said calmly. Shi Changqing didn't get out of bed to open the door, which wasn't locked, but the cat demon was very respectful of etiquette, knowing to knock before entering.

The door was pushed open, and a small leg stepped in first. When Maomao entered the room, Shi Changqing froze, his eyes fixed on her. Looking at her incredibly mature body, Shi Changqing swallowed hard. What did it mean to have a youthful face and huge breasts? Maomao was it.

"Why aren't you dressed for a shower?" Looking at Maomao, although her body was very beautiful and alluring, Shi Changqing still pretended to be angry and scolded her.

"Because it's convenient this way, and no one will see. If someone sees me, I'll kill them." Maomao said nonchalantly, closing the door behind her. Hearing Shi Changqing's words, Shi Changqing broke out in a cold sweat. Just looking at her and someone would die? That's too domineering! Thinking to himself, Shi Changqing decided to be a guide and let Maomao know that this world does not allow indiscriminate killing.

"Come here first, sit here. I'm going to teach you some rules of conduct. Killing in this world can't be done so casually. And when you're with a man, you can't just get involved with any man. Although we just met, we already have some connection. Remember, you can only have one man, and that's me." Seeing the disdainful look on the cat's face, Shi Changqing was afraid that if he had a one-night stand with her, this cat demon would be off fooling around with other men the next day. This was something Shi Changqing absolutely wouldn't allow and didn't want to see.

"Why?" With her arms crossed, the cat blinked and slowly asked the question.

"Because there needs to be a limit of exclusivity between two people. That's called love. Let me ask you a question: are you curious about those things, or do you just think I'm pretty and want to do 'that' with me?" Shi Changqing gradually realized that he and the cat were moving in the wrong direction.

"Because Lady Demon Flower said you're very powerful and might become the new Evil Serpent King, she made me your servant. No matter what happens, it can only happen with you. Don't worry about that. I won't be interested in those ordinary mortals. If you weren't so powerful, I wouldn't have even considered you." Cat Cat thought for a moment before speaking. This was something Yuan Fei had taught her after their meeting; otherwise, Cat Cat wouldn't have sought out this replacement created by the Evil Serpent King.

"Oh, she said that? Then I'm relieved." With Cat Cat's words, Shi Changqing felt at ease. Cat Cat addressed Yuan Fei as Lady Demon Flower, indicating she obeyed her orders. Thinking this, Shi Changqing felt Cat Cat was a woman he could take in.

"Is everything alright?" Cat Cat lifted her legs, sat on the bed, picked up the sheets, threw them aside, and looked at Shi Changqing.

"Yes, everything's alright." Shi Changqing didn't know why Cat Cat asked this, but he saw a strange expression in her eyes. Her small lips parted slightly, and she licked her lips with her little tongue.

“Let’s begin then. You said you had many tricks up your sleeve, so let’s start with the Guanyin Lotus Position.” Grasping Shi Changqing’s arms, Maomao took the initiative.

“Oh my god… this is so wonderful. When will my women ever be able to do this?” Lying down, Shi Changqing’s mind wandered, but Maomao’s advances had already begun. Without a doubt, Maomao’s first time was just like Yuan Fei’s; she didn’t feel much pain. However, Maomao was very proactive on her first time, so much so that Shi Changqing didn’t have to exert much effort and was brought to orgasm several times. He was drenched in sweat, and the wonderful sensations and moving sounds filled the room. The two kept tumbling and changing positions until dawn, when the silvery sunlight streamed into the room.

“Changqing… I want more…” At 4:30 in the morning, Shi Changqing had just lain down and was about to close his eyes when Maomao squeezed in again, wrapped her arms around his waist, and said loudly.

"No, I have to go to morning self-study. Maybe next time. Oh, right, there's something else I need to teach you. Doing this kind of thing requires a full night's sleep. I'm going to sleep for a bit." Shi Changqing tilted his head, ignoring Maomao's calls, and pretended to be asleep. He really couldn't take it anymore. The energy absorption and reabsorption in his body left him no time to process it, almost driving him insane.

At five in the morning, Shi Changqing only slept for half an hour before finally waking up, only to find Maomao gone, along with her clothes. He immediately activated his detection ability, but couldn't find Maomao in or near the inn. Knowing she would automatically appear beside him, Shi Changqing wasn't worried. He quickly got dressed and left the room.

After bidding a heartfelt farewell to Yin Hong, Shi Changqing skipped breakfast and headed straight for the school. Many students were returning to campus at this time. At the school gate, Shi Changqing saw security guards routinely checking student IDs, but one guard was missing: Qiao Ke, the incarnation of the Black Dragon.

"Heh, why do I feel this way when the enemy is gone?" Shaking his head, Shi Changqing dismissed his strange thought. He always encountered the Black Dragon's hostile gaze at school, and now that it was gone, he felt a pang of longing. He followed the flow of students into the school.

He was listless during the two morning classes, perhaps due to the cat's repeated demands the previous night. Shi Changqing finally realized he wasn't a superman; he too had moments of exhaustion and powerlessness. He spent both classes thinking about the previous night's amorous affair, not even paying attention to what the teacher was saying.

"Hmph, even facing death, he can still laugh." From the corner, Zang Hu glanced at Shi Changqing's lewd smile and muttered angrily, his own face revealing a wild, terrifying grin, like the smile of death itself… Many people now believe that Sima Qian wrote

the *Records of the Grand Historian

*, which was Ban Gu's "invention." This claim is highly questionable. It's true that Ban Gu and his father Ban Biao did refer to Sima Qian's book as the *Records of the Grand Historian*, but in the Ban family's dictionaries, "Records of the Grand Historian" appears as a more general term than a proper noun. To illustrate the point, let's quote a few passages from the Book of Han: (1) Book of Han, Treatise on Literature: "He consulted with Zuo Qiuming on his 'Records of the Grand Historian,' based on his actions and the principles of humanity." (2) Book of Han, Biography of Sima Qian, Eulogy: "Confucius wrote the Spring and Autumn Annals based on the 'Records of the Grand Historian' of Lu." We know that the Book of Han was the work of Ban Gu, and the "Records of the Grand Historian" mentioned in the two passages above was obviously not written by Sima Qian. This shows that the name "Records of the Grand Historian" was still a common name among the Ban family. From the Han Dynasty to the early Tang Dynasty, there was no "Treatise on Classics and Literature" in the official historical books. Therefore, Sima Qian's great work was called Records of the Grand Historian, or the Book of the Grand Historian. Other historical books were also called Records of the Grand Historian (meaning historical records). For example, the Dunhuang manuscript "Zhen Nan" says: "Yan Shuzi was a man of Lu... a man of the Zhou Dynasty, who came from the 'Records of the Grand Historian'." The "Records of the Grand Historian" here refers to a note in the Book of the Later Han. The *Yiqiejing Yinyi* (Phonetic and Semantic Dictionary of All Sutras), Volume 81, written by the Tang Dynasty monk Xuan Ying, states: "The *Shiji* (Records of the Grand Historian) says: 'Zhou (籀) refers to the book used by the Zhou Dynasty historians to teach the children of the state…'" The *Shiji* in this context refers to the *Hanshu* (Book of Han). (See the *Hanshu*, Treatise on Literature). It was Changsun Wuji who formally named Sima Qian's work *Shiji* and endowed it with official authority. The *Suishu* (Book of Sui) was co-authored by Changsun Wuji, Wei Zheng, Yu Zhining, Li Chunfeng, and others. Completed in 656 AD, this book records the existence and origins of ancient and modern books and establishes the four-part classification system, profoundly influencing later bibliography. The *Sui Shu* (History of the Sui Dynasty), in its section on bibliography, states: "The *Shiji* (Records of the Grand Historian) consists of 130 volumes, with a one-volume catalog, compiled by Sima Qian, the Grand Historian of the Han Dynasty… The *Han Shu* (Book of Han) consists of 115 volumes, compiled by Ban Gu, the Protector-General of the Han Dynasty." This places the *Shiji* alongside the *Han Shu* in official historical records, formally establishing the name *Shiji*. Nearly a thousand years later, from the 2nd century BC to the 7th century AD, Sima Qian finally secured a formal name for his painstaking work. If we ignore this and arbitrarily tell others that Sima Qian wrote a book titled *Shiji* at the time, we commit the error of judging the past by the present, and we also fail to appreciate the immense hardships endured by historians like Sima Qian in their historical creation.

[This section] Literary Criticism,

Life, and Completion of the Book

: 1. Sima Qian, courtesy name Zichang, was born in Longmen, Xiayang. His father, Sima Tan, served as Grand Historian and was well-versed in the doctrines of the various schools of thought. Sima Qian was intelligent from a young age and learned from many teachers, studying under numerous great scholars of the time, laying a solid academic foundation. At the age of 20, Sima Qian began traveling extensively, experiencing local customs firsthand, investigating historical sites, interviewing elders, and collecting a wealth of historical materials, gaining a close and intuitive understanding of history. The *Records of the Grand Historian* was originally titled *The Book of the Grand Historian*, and Sima Tan had already begun writing some chapters. In 110 BC, Sima Tan passed away, leaving a will for Sima Qian to complete his work. In 104 BC, Sima Qian inherited his father's will and began writing *The Book of the Grand Historian*. In 98 BC, Li Ling was defeated and surrendered to the Xiongnu, and Sima Qian was castrated for pleading for him. He endured this humiliation and continued writing. Around 91 BC, he completed the 130-volume *Records of the Grand Historian*. Sima Qian's creation of the *Records of the Grand Historian* initially stemmed from his father's command and his ambition to promote the majesty of the Han Dynasty, embellish its achievements, and learn from the past to understand the future. After being castrated, his mindset changed drastically. His personal resentment and frustration manifested in his historical writing, diminishing the praise and replacing it with indignation and lamentation. Thus, the *Records of the Grand Historian* became a hybrid of a spiritual history and a socio-political history.

(Narrative)

1. The *Records of the Grand Historian* pioneered the biographical style of historical writing, forming a complete narrative network with twelve annals, thirty hereditary houses, seventy biographies, ten tables, and eight treatises. Among these, the annals, hereditary houses, and biographies record the lives of people from different social classes and possess the greatest literary value. 2. The biographies in the *Records of the Grand Historian* are arranged primarily chronologically, but also follow the principle of grouping by category. In terms of biographical style, there are single biographies, joint biographies, and biographies by category. The biographies are interconnected, reflecting the unity of history and logic. 3. The narrative of the *Records of the Grand Historian* does not merely dwell on surface phenomena, but focuses on revealing the roots of historical events and exploring the causal laws of history. The author himself stated that the purpose of creating the *Records of the Grand Historian* was to "investigate the relationship between Heaven and Man, understand the changes of ancient and modern times, and establish a unique perspective." He did not simply describe historical processes and figures in a general way, but rather deeply reflected on historical laws and the fates of individuals, uncovering the essence through appearances and grasping the inevitability through chance. Such history is not a simple compilation of historical phenomena, but is consistently permeated with the author's thoughts and soul. 4. The narratives in *Records of the Grand Historian* often detail the causes of events while briefly mentioning the results; it also skillfully interweaves everyday anecdotes to demonstrate the inevitability of the outcomes. This is a technique he used to uncover historical patterns. 5. The narratives in *Records of the Grand Historian* are rich in legendary elements; many legendary stories were included in the biographies; some stories deviate from convention and are unexpected, all contributing to a sense of mystery. Sima Qian's writing style is unpredictable and ingenious, and its novelty and variability also create a legendary effect.

Character Portrayal

1. The characters recorded in the *Records of the Grand Historian*'s Annals, Hereditary Houses, and Biographies range from emperors and generals to people from all walks of life, including commoners, totaling over four thousand people. Particularly noteworthy is the inclusion of many commoners such as assassins, knights-errant, merchants, and alchemists. This demonstrates Sima Qian's broad historical vision and unique historical understanding. 2. The characters portrayed in *Records of the Grand Historian* all possess distinct personalities; even characters of the same type have different appearances. When writing about people, Sima Qian skillfully grasped and vividly portrayed their basic characteristics, paying attention to factors such as family background, cultural upbringing, and social experiences that influenced personality formation. 3. Sima Qian paid close attention to the diversity of character traits; his characters are always flesh-and-blood and lively. He sometimes employed the "mutual representation method," presenting the main characteristics of a character in the main biography while revealing other personality traits in other chapters. 4. Sima Qian excelled at placing historical figures within a broad social context, showcasing the historical inevitability inherent in the randomness of individual fates while narrating a series of major historical events. 5. Sima Qian successfully created a large number of tragic characters, filling the entire book with a rich tragic atmosphere. These tragic experiences undoubtedly implicitly reflected Sima Qian's own reflections on life.

Status and Influence

: 1. *Records of the Grand Historian* is the progenitor of biographical historiography in China and the beginning of biographical literature. It inherited the lyrical tradition of the pre-Qin *Book of Poetry* and *Sao*, absorbed the fluent style of pre-Qin prose, and integrated these elements to form its own unique style. 2. The enterprising spirit, benevolent sentiments, humanitarianism, and indomitable will praised in *Records of the Grand Historian*, along with a series of brilliant figures, have been admired and emulated by later generations. 3. The writing techniques, style, and language of *Records of the Grand Historian* have been followed and emulated by later prose writers. 4. Many stories from *Records of the Grand Historian* have been widely circulated, providing a rich source of inspiration for later novels and plays. Its methods of plot development and character portrayal have also been continuously emulated by novelists.

[This paragraph] More related information

The widespread dissemination and popularity of the *Records of the Grand Historian* (Shiji) began around the mid-Eastern Han Dynasty, when it became the exclusive title for Sima Qian's work. Before that, it was known as *The Book of the Grand Historian*, *The Records of the Grand Historian*, or simply "The Grand Historian." According to existing materials, the earliest instance of using the title *Records of the Grand Historian* for this historical work by Sima Qian is the *Stele of the Temple of the Eastern Sea*, written during the reign of Emperor Huan of the Eastern Han Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, with the rise of the Classical Prose Movement, scholars highly valued the *Records of the Grand Historian*, with prominent prose writers such as Han Yu and Liu Zongyuan particularly praising it. From the Song and Yuan Dynasties onward, scholars such as Ouyang Xiu, Zheng Qiao, Hong Mai, and Wang Yinglin, as well as the Gong'an School of the Ming Dynasty and the Tongcheng School of the Qing Dynasty, all greatly admired the writing style of the *Records of the Grand Historian*. As a result, the prestige of the *Records of the Grand Historian* grew daily, and numerous commentaries and evaluations of it appeared from various schools of thought. Among them, the most influential are the so-called "Three Commentaries": *Shiji Jijie* (annotated by Pei Yin (son of Pei Song) during the Liu Song dynasty), *Shiji Suoyin* (annotated by Sima Zhen during the Tang dynasty; note supplement: Sima Zhen, courtesy name Zizheng, was a native of Henan (present-day Qinyang) during the Tang dynasty. During the Kaiyuan era, he served as Chaosan Dafu and Academician of the Hongwen Pavilion, in charge of compilation, writing, and drafting imperial edicts. A famous historian of the Tang dynasty, he authored *Shiji Suoyin* in thirty volumes and was known as "Little Sima". Sima Zhen, because the old annotations and phonetic interpretations of *Shiji* had been lost over time, collected Xu Guang's *Shiji Yinyi* from the Southern Song dynasty, Pei Yin's *Shiji Jijie*, and Zou Dansheng's *Shiji Jizhu* from the Qi dynasty. Based on the annotations of Liu Bozhuang (Tang Dynasty) in *Shiji Yinyi* and *Shiji Diming*, and referencing the works of Wei Zhao, Jia Kui, Du Yu, Qiao Zhou, and others, as well as his own opinions, he compiled the influential historical work *Shiji Suoyin*. This book emphasizes both pronunciation and meaning, with detailed annotations and numerous corrections to errors and omissions, making it extremely valuable for historical research. It is considered one of the "Three Commentaries on the *Shiji*" (along with Pei Yin's *Shiji Jijie* from the Southern Dynasties and Zhang Shoujie's *Shiji Zhengyi* from the Tang Dynasty). Later historians praised this book, saying it was "more valuable than those of Pei and Zhang." *Shiji Zhengyi* (annotated by Zhang Shoujie) also incorporates the research findings of previous scholars on the *Shiji* that Pei Yin could access at the time, meticulously noting the authors' names. *Suoyin* further points out errors in the textual research of *Jijie* and offers corrections to the *Shiji*, offering insightful and incisive commentary. The author of *Zhengyi* (正义) was skilled in geography, and his textual research on place names in *Shiji* (史记) was particularly insightful. Reading *Shiji* while also paying attention to these three commentaries will lead to a deeper understanding of the original text. The 1959 reprint of *Shiji* by Zhonghua Book Company, with punctuation and typeset, is a combined edition with these three commentaries. Pei Yin, son of Pei Songzhi, courtesy name Longju, inherited his family's scholarship, possessed extensive knowledge, and was also renowned for his historical commentaries. Sima Qian's *Shiji* is hailed as "the pinnacle of historical writing, a *Li Sao* without rhyme," and Pei Yin's commentary on *Shiji* cemented his place in Chinese historical circles. He repeatedly studied *Shiji*, praising its skillful arrangement of events and principles, its eloquence without embellishment, its simplicity without vulgarity, its straightforward writing, its accurate accounts, its avoidance of exaggeration or concealment of wrongdoing, hence calling it a true record. He extensively studied the classics, the teachings of various schools of thought, and the doctrines of earlier Confucian scholars, recording anything that could benefit his annotations. He meticulously removed superfluous words and phrases from all sources, retaining only the essential meaning. Where different interpretations differed, he adopted all sources without bias. Where there were unclear points, he preferred to leave them unaddressed rather than offer arbitrary explanations based on conjecture. He ultimately completed the eighty-volume *Collected Explanations of the Records of the Grand Historian*, the earliest extant commentary on the *Records of the Grand Historian*. Together with Sima Zhen's *Index to the Records of the Grand Historian* and Zhang Shoujie's *Correct Interpretation of the Records of the Grand Historian*, it is known as one of the "Three Commentaries on the Records of the Grand Historian." After its completion, the *Records of the Grand Historian* was criticized as a heretic representing opposition to the orthodox thought of the Han Dynasty because "its judgments deviate considerably from those of the sages; in discussing the great principles, it prioritizes Huang-Lao thought over the Six Classics; in describing chivalrous figures, it elevates treacherous heroes over recluses; in discussing commerce, it glorifies power and profit while scorning poverty and lowliness—this is its obscurity" (*Book of Han, Biography of Sima Qian*). Therefore, during the Han Dynasty, the *Records of the Grand Historian* was consistently regarded as a heretical and defamatory work, failing to receive due fair evaluation, and scholars at the time dared not annotate it. In the early Tang Dynasty, the *Sui Shu* (History of the Sui Dynasty), in its description of the transmission of the *Records of the Grand Historian* and the *Book of Han*, stated that "very few copies of the *Records of the Grand Historian* have been transmitted," and Sima Zhen said, "Famous scholars of the Han and Jin dynasties did not recognize its value." (Preface to *Shiji Suoyin*). We note that there were also some positive evaluations of the *Records of the Grand Historian* during the Han and Jin periods. For example, Liu Xiang and Yang Xiong of the Western Han Dynasty both praised Sima Qian for his talent as a historian, admiring his skillful arrangement of events, his clarity without embellishment, his simplicity without vulgarity, his straightforward writing, and his accurate accounts, neither exaggerating merits nor concealing faults, hence calling it a true record. (*Book of Han*, Biography of Sima Qian). Hua Qiao of the Western Jin Dynasty also said, "Sima Qian's writing is straightforward and his accounts are accurate." (*Book of the Later Han*, Biography of Ban Biao. According to Li Xian's annotation, this sentence is "Hua Qiao's words.") In the Jin Dynasty, some also praised the *Records of the Grand Historian* from a concise perspective. Zhang Fu said, "Qian's writings are concise yet vivid, narrating three thousand years of history in just 500,000 words." (Biography of Zhang Fu, Book of Jin) While these assessments are commendable, they are far from sufficient to reflect the special status of the *Records of the Grand Historian* today, as it is not the only historical work to receive similar praise. For example, Chen Shou, the author of the *Records of the Three Kingdoms*, was praised by his contemporaries for his skill in narration and his talent as a good historian. (Biography of Chen Shou, Book of Jin) Liu Xie of the Southern Dynasties said, "Chen Shou's three *Records* are well-balanced in terms of style and content." (*The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons*, Chapter on Historical Records) Hua Qiao's *Book of the Later Han* was also highly regarded in the Western Jin Dynasty, with contemporaries believing that "Qiao's writing is concise yet accurate, possessing the style of Qian and Gu, and the spirit of factual recording." (From *The Book of Jin*, Biography of Hua Qiao) As for brevity, it wasn't unique to *Records of the Grand Historian*. For example, "Sun Sheng's *Yangqiu* is known for its conciseness," (*Wenxin Diaolong*, Biography of the Grand Historian). Gan Bao's *Jin Ji* is "concise, straightforward yet tactful, and widely praised as a good historian." (From *The Book of Jin*, Biography of Gan Bao) In short, for a considerable period, people didn't consider *Records of the Grand Historian* particularly special. This is quite different from our current attitude towards it. Since the Song Dynasty, the number of works studying *Records of the Grand Historian* has increased. Representative works include Liang Yusheng's *Shiji Zhiyi*, Cui Shi's *Shiji Tanyuan*, Zhang Senkai's *Shiji Xin Jiaozhu*, Japanese scholar Takikawa Shigen's *Shiji Huizhu Kaozheng*, as well as Zhao Yi's *Ershier Shi Zhaji* and relevant sections of Wang Mingsheng's *Shiqi Shi Shangque*, all important reference books. Zhang Wenhu's book, *Notes on the Collated and Annotated Edition of the Records of the Grand Historian*, meticulously collated the historical text and annotations of the *Records of the Grand Historian*. Based on Qian Taiji's collated edition and various old and contemporary editions he had seen, he selected the best sources and incorporated various other perspectives. The Jinling Bookstore edition was published after his collation and examination. Japanese scholar Takikawa Shigen wrote *A Study of the Annotated Edition of the Records of the Grand Historian*, which is relatively detailed. While most versions of the *Records of the Grand Historian*, including punctuated editions, only include the three commentaries, *A Study* uses the Jinling Bookstore edition as its base text and cites approximately 120 relevant Chinese and Japanese classics from the three commentaries onwards. These include over 100 Chinese works and over 20 Japanese works, spanning from the Tang Dynasty to modern times. These are selected and compiled separately into the annotations, with occasional critical explanations. This systematically presents the various interpretations of the past 1200 years, greatly saving the effort of searching through numerous books and providing significant convenience for researchers. It is clearly superior to the three commentaries. From the Han Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, there were 101 monographs and 1435 individual papers on the *Records of the Grand Historian*, encompassing fields such as nomenclature, geography, textual criticism, phonology, textual history, interpretation, reading methods, and commentary. The methodology involved copying materials, arranging and citing evidence, and was essentially a micro-level study of different interpretations of the text. For details, see the *Index of Materials and Papers on the Study of the Records of the Grand Historian*, jointly compiled by the First and Second Institutes of the Institute of History, Chinese Academy of Sciences, or Chen Naiqian's *A Brief Catalogue of Textual Research Books on the Twenty-Four Histories*, published in the fourth volume of *Collected Papers on Chinese Historical Documents*. Among the more important works cited are: Qian Daxin's *Examination of the Twenty-Two Histories* and *Supplementary Notes on Historical Research* (Qing Dynasty); Wang Mingsheng's *Discussions on the Seventeen Histories* and Zhao Yi's *Notes on the Twenty-Two Histories* (Qing Dynasty) concerning the first four histories; Liang Yusheng's *Doubts about the Records of the Grand Historian* (Qing Dynasty); Guo Songtao's *Notes on the Records of the Grand Historian* (Qing Dynasty); Shen Jiaben's *Miscellaneous Remarks on the Records of the Grand Historian* (Qing Dynasty); and Chen Zhi's *New Evidence on the Records of the Grand Historian* (Modern). Among the aforementioned books, the works of Qian Daxin, Liang Yusheng, and Guo Songtao from the Qing Dynasty are the most outstanding. The work of Chen Zhi, a modern scholar, largely utilizes inscriptions on oracle bones, bronzes, and Qin and Han weights and measures, stone carvings, bamboo slips, bronzes, and pottery to corroborate the *Records of the Grand Historian*, forging a unique path and yielding numerous original insights. Because his *New Evidence on the Book of Han* was completed earlier, any repetitions of his research on the history of the Western Han Dynasty before Emperor Wu in the draft of *New Evidence on the Records of the Grand Historian* have been deleted. A compilation of various commentaries and textual criticisms of the *Records of the Grand Historian* is Zhang Senkai's *New Collated and Annotated Draft of the Records of the Grand Historian*, completed in the 1920s, but unfortunately never finalized. It was compiled and edited by Yang Jialuo in 1967 and published by the Preparatory Office of the Chinese Classics Museum in Taiwan, but the text is incomplete. The Nanjing Library holds a manuscript of Zhang Senkai's *New Collated and Annotated Draft of the Records of the Grand Historian*. From the perspective of literary studies, due to the limitations of the cultural environment of the time and the knowledge field of researchers, scholars before the modern era mostly focused on the intuitive and perceptual commentary on individual texts, lacking comprehensive and logical macro-level interpretations of literary meaning and ontological analyses that considered both literature and history. Since the 20th century, the academic research team on Sima Qian and the *Records of the Grand Historian* has grown significantly. In addition to examining specific issues such as Sima Qian's birth year, life, family background, and the title, period, structure, source material, incomplete and supplemented chapters, and examples of the *Records of the Grand Historian*, scholars have expanded the comprehensive and integrated study of the *Records of the Grand Historian*. Historical materialism and historical evolutionism have influenced scholars for a century. Based on historical documents and drawing on local archaeological findings, combined with Western historical theories and methods, they have conducted rigorous research, made cautious judgments, and employed meticulous logical analysis, greatly promoting the progress of *Records of the Grand Historian* studies in mainland China, from historical source studies to *Records of the Grand Historian* scholarship.Numerous groundbreaking achievements have been made. For example, Wang Guowei was the first to use oracle bone inscriptions and bronze inscriptions to prove the credibility of the history of the Three Dynasties recorded in the *Records of the Grand Historian*. From Wang Guowei and Guo Moruo's joint use of Han Dynasty bamboo slips to verify Sima Qian's birth year to Chen Zhi's *New Evidence for the Records of the Grand Historian*, it is evident that archaeological documents have been greatly utilized. The textual research of this past century has mainly focused on Sima Qian's chronology, unresolved issues in the *Records of the Grand Historian*, comparisons between Sima Qian and Ban Gu, the *Records of the Grand Historian* and the Gongyang School, and the three commentaries on the *Records of the Grand Historian*. Scholars have drawn on theories from Western psychology, sociology, ethnology, and folklore, further advancing research on Sima Qian's personality and his social, ethnic, and folkloric thoughts. Literary studies of the *Records of the Grand Historian* remain a major focus over the past century. Among reference books on the *Records of the Grand Historian*, the aforementioned *Index of Materials and Papers on the Study of the Records of the Grand Historian* is the most useful. The index is very comprehensive, including versions, table of contents, explanatory notes, research on the entire *Records of the Grand Historian* and its various parts, research on Sima Qian's life and academic contributions, a catalog of manuscripts and uncirculated versions, a diary of non-specialized works on the *Records of the Grand Historian*, textual entries related to the *Records of the Grand Historian* in Tang, Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasty notes, and a catalog of foreign research papers and monographs. In addition, there are the *Comprehensive Index to the Records of the Grand Historian and its Commentaries* compiled by the Harvard-Yenching Institute, Huang Fuluan's *Index to the Records of the Grand Historian*, Zhong Hua's *Index to Personal Names in the Records of the Grand Historian*, and Duan Shu'an's *Index to Cited Books in the Three Commentaries on the Records of the Grand Historian*. Among these, Huang Fuluan's *Index to the Records of the Grand Historian* is most useful for finding personal names, place names, events, vocabulary, and colloquialisms in the *Records of the Grand Historian*. Many passages from it are included in language textbooks. The punctuated and collated edition published by Zhonghua Book Company in 1959, based on summarizing previous research, has been re-collated and is suitable for contemporary readers.
