Confucianism and Taoism recognized this early on. However, to maintain the male-centric society of their time, they were deeply fearful of this. Confucianism advocated the severe suppression of female sexual capacity through the idea that "a woman's virtue lies in her lack of sexual desire," while Taoism advocated using men's "preservation of essence" to counteract women's unlimited sexual capacity.

These two sexual cultural traditions have been deeply ingrained in the minds of Chinese women, severely distorting and alienating female sexuality. This leads to a double sense of sexual repression in women's personal sex lives.

Before starting sexual activity, women often unconsciously feel that sex is a male prerogative and that women shouldn't actively seek it. Even after a fulfilling sex life breaks through this psychological barrier, women often fail to learn how to fully enjoy their boundless sexual potential.

If an unmarried woman dares to say she experiences sexual arousal, dreams, or responses, other men will assume she's taking advantage of them, while other women will inevitably label her a "slut." As a result, a woman's wedding night becomes a mere "test," often bringing unnecessary physical and mental distress, even pain.

After marriage, a woman's sexuality is still considered solely for her husband's service; it seems that simply never refusing her husband's sexual advances equates to good sexual ability. If a wife dares to say she needs more orgasms, she'll likely be considered "greedy" at the very least. If a wife makes any special requests, her husband will likely perceive her as "unfaithful" and might even interrogate her, asking, "Who did you learn that from?"

International feminism argues that male and female sexuality are homogeneous and isomorphic. However, due to centuries of male-centric societies, various cultural systems have severely suppressed female sexual abilities and expression. Women themselves have been gradually cultivated and trained to be "asexual," without even realizing it, believing it to be their natural state.

Feminism believes that women's liberation and gender equality must include sex, restoring the original state of female sexual physiology, allowing women to enjoy their innate sexual abilities and pleasures spontaneously, autonomously, consciously, and self-regulatingly, just like men.

If women still dare not acknowledge and utilize their unlimited sexual potential, they cannot achieve the equal status and autonomy they deserve in their sexual lives (not power!), and thus cannot achieve equality in other aspects of social life.

In the past, we have introduced too little about the sexual theories of the international women's movement. Therefore, some educated Chinese women seem to view mentioning the physiological drive of sex as vulgar and base, as denying the nobility of love, or even demeaning women. In fact, it is precisely in cultures that fully respect women's sexual abilities and rights that the banner of love flies higher than it does here. On the occasion of the Fourth World Conference on Women, we should openly and frankly promote and popularize in-depth sexual knowledge in this area, so as to benefit every sister in China.
