The monogamous marriage system will eventually disappear!

In the past, polyandry was common, with women holding the initiative; polygyny was common, with men holding the initiative, and having multiple wives and concubines was quite normal.
In matriarchal societies, women were powerful and held the power, deciding who they would have sexual relations with. This inevitably meant that some men would lose the opportunity to reproduce, which naturally led to resentment and made them a source of social instability.
In patriarchal societies, slave societies, and feudal societies, women were relegated to a secondary role, and men became more powerful. Polygamy was practiced, but it depended on the man. Men with power and status naturally possessed more resources, while weaker men struggled to even find a wife. The consequences were similar to those in matriarchal societies.
However, with social development and after liberation, these practices were abandoned, and loyalty became the priority. Polygamy, for example, is now explicitly prohibited by law in China, where monogamy is practiced.
Some argue that monogamy is primarily for the sake of equal rights, especially equal sexual rights for men.
Although we still live in a patriarchal society where men hold significant power, women should not be underestimated; they are just as capable as men.
Women have gained significant influence in marriage, especially in cities. Many highly educated women enjoy economic status that is in no way inferior to men.
The problem now is that many men cannot find wives. Because women don't rely on men for support, many outstanding women are increasingly reluctant to marry.
In many marriages, the woman is stronger than the man, and if a woman's life doesn't improve after marriage, but rather declines, she is absolutely unwilling to accept this.
Thus, society has this phenomenon: the better a woman's circumstances, the more likely she is to become a "leftover woman" (unmarried woman over 30).
They could marry anytime they want, but they don't want to settle; they prefer to remain single rather than settle for just any man.
I saw a video where renowned sociologist Li Yinhe shared these statistics on the talk show "Qipa Talk":
In the 1980s, 30% of people in the US and France chose not to marry, while in August 2015, 50.2% of Americans aged 16 and over chose to be single, exceeding the number of nuclear families and becoming the social mainstream.
According to data from the Ministry of Civil Affairs in 2016, the number of single men and women in China is nearly 200 million.
Thus, Li Yinhe arrived at this shocking conclusion:
the institution of marriage will eventually disappear!
That is to say, human union between men and women has evolved from polyandry to polygyny, then to monogamy, and now to its possible demise!
If one day in the future there is no marriage, wouldn't human reproduction revert to a barbaric era?
Don't worry about that, don't be overly pessimistic!
There will be corresponding solutions when the time comes!
Many people say that monogamy goes against human nature!
As the most contradictory and complex beings in the world, humans instinctively pursue stability and security, yet simultaneously crave adventure and novelty. The monogamous marriage system is a product of these complex and contradictory human characteristics:
we build a stable and secure platform (marriage) for ourselves, and then pursue adventure and novelty (infidelity) beneath this platform.
Because a significant source of sexual stimulation is novelty, scientists have demonstrated this through experiments on mice with different partners:
if the same female mouse is used, the male mouse's mating frequency decreases until it stops completely; if scientists continuously change the female mice, the male mouse will mate continuously until it is exhausted. While humans don't rely solely on conditioned reflexes like animals, igniting sexual passion still requires a fresh partner.
We must face the fact that the longer a relationship lasts, the less frequent the sex becomes. Therefore, marriage experts advise prioritizing quality over quantity, focusing on intimacy itself rather than sexual stimulation. In
a monogamous marriage, two people come together to form a family, facing numerous challenges: procreation, sex, finances, interpersonal relationships, fidelity, and responsibility—all interconnected, making it far from easy!
Everyone can have many beautiful expectations for marriage, hoping that their chosen partner will "hold hands and grow old together."
However, we must constantly remind ourselves not to assume that marriage guarantees a smooth life, a life of comfort and security.
And please don't stake your entire life on your partner, fantasizing that they will support you forever!
For both men and women, marriage involves both risks and rewards.
In today's marriages, once things fall apart, it's not just men who abandon women; women are equally capable of challenging men and abandoning them as well.
Therefore, men and women in marriages should not allow themselves to rot within the marriage, but rather maintain their value and increase their own worth. Even without marriage, they can still live a carefree and fulfilling life!
