Beautiful mother and pretty daughter (71 to 77)

    page views:1  Publication date:2021-11-05
71.
I screamed and sat bolt upright in bed, only to find everything peaceful. Zhao Jinhui was nowhere to be seen. Looking down at the next bed, I saw Ji Yalei and He Xiaoqin sleeping soundly in each other's arms.
It was just a nightmare. I broke out in a cold sweat, secretly relieved but still shaken. This scene in my dream wasn't impossible to happen in reality.
I slowly lay back down, but couldn't fall asleep, and stayed awake until dawn.
In the morning, taking advantage of the low sun and the fact that the guests at the nearby guesthouses had all gone to the tourist attractions, leaving the beach almost deserted, we went swimming.
After swimming for a while, still troubled by the nightmare and having barely slept all night, I felt listless. I lay down on the sand, put on sunglasses, and closed my eyes to rest.
But as soon as I closed my eyes, the scene from the nightmare reappeared in my mind, so vivid, as if it had actually happened in real life.
"Honey, come swim! What are you lying there for?" Ji Yalei's voice called from beside me.
He Xiaoqin called out, "Brother, brother, come down and play with us, brother..."
I wasn't in the mood to pay attention to them, pretending to be asleep, lying motionless on the beach.
"Brother is so boring, why is he sleeping in the middle of the day?" He Xiaoqin complained, pouting, sitting in her swimming ring.
"Yeah! What's wrong with him? Didn't he sleep well last night?" Ji Yalei was also quite puzzled.
He Xiaoqin suddenly looked at her sister-in-law and said mischievously, "Sister-in-law, was it because you two were too lovey-dovey last night after I fell asleep that my brother is so listless this morning?"
Ji Yalei blushed and pinched her sister-in-law's waist, "You silly girl, what are you saying?"
He Xiaoqin chuckled. After a while, Ji Yalei whispered something to Xiaoqin, and He Xiaoqin nodded while laughing. After the two women had discussed it, they went ashore. Ji Yalei pushed the wheelchair over, lifted He Xiaoqin onto it, and quietly pushed her to my side. Then she lifted He Xiaoqin down, and the two women, one on each side, lay down beside me, scooping sand onto my body.
I pretended to be asleep, remaining motionless. He Xiaoqin chuckled as she scooped sand, and Ji Yalei put her right index finger to her lips, shushing her sister-in-law to be quiet. The two women continued burying sand on me, scooping it up handful by handful, until soon only my head was visible.
Both women couldn't help but laugh. He Xiaoqin whispered, "Brother's sleeping like a log, like a zombie."
"Yeah, even if you carried him into the sea and threw him in, he probably wouldn't wake up," Ji Yalei added with a laugh.
At that moment, I cursed myself inwardly, "Chen Junhao, you coward! You're scared like this by your wife's ex-husband? Are you even a man? Instead of staying here in fear, you should be protecting your wife and sister. That's what a man should do." Even if the events of that nightmare actually happened, how terrible could it be? At worst, the three of us would die together, never to be separated again.
"Let the storm rage on!" I suddenly shouted, startling the two women who screamed and recoiled.
I burst from the sand, stood up, and pretended to close my eyes. I raised my arms, palms down, pointing forward, and jumped repeatedly, chanting, "The zombies have come back to life! Keep out of the way, the zombies have come back to life! Keep out of the way..."
The two women laughed and shouted as they dodged. I first hopped towards Ji Yalei, still chanting, "The zombies have come back to life! Keep out of the way..."
Ji Yalei quickly ran away. Then I hopped towards He Xiaoqin. The little girl had difficulty walking and could only crawl on the sand. I jumped in front of her, said, "The zombies are going to eat people," and pounced on her, opening my mouth to bite her neck.
He Xiaoqin was genuinely frightened, her voice trembling as she said, "Brother, I'm scared, I'm scared, don't..."
Ji Yalei came over and pulled me, "Don't really scare her..."
I let go of He Xiaoqin and pounced on Ji Yalei. She laughed and screamed as she tried to escape, but I quickly caught up and pinned her to the beach, nibbling at her neck.
"No, no!" she laughed, desperately shaking her head to avoid me, only to be unexpectedly kissed on the lips. At first, she resisted, but gradually we kissed.
"Brother, sister-in-law, what are you doing?" He Xiaoqin's voice came from beside me.
I released Ji Yalei's lips and saw that He Xiaoqin had crawled to our side, playfully winking at us.
I raised my hand and covered her eyes, "Inappropriate for children, don't look."
Ji Yalei couldn't help but laugh, and I kissed her lips again...
After our sweet and pleasant time in Qingdao, we drove to my hometown, Zibo.
Zibo is a three-hour drive from Qingdao. As I drew closer to my hometown, my feelings became increasingly complex.
I hadn't been back for eleven years. Although I often dreamt of the mountains, rivers, and people there in the dead of night, for the past eleven years, I hadn't been able to return, partly because I was busy taking care of He Xiaoqin, and partly because there was no one there who cared about me anymore. This made it difficult for me to even consider going back.
At this moment, I understood the feelings Wen Hong had when I accompanied her back to her hometown in Dazhou. However, compared to me, Wen Hong had been away from her hometown for an even longer time—over twenty years.
While He Xiaoqin was asleep in the back seat, Ji Yalei gently squeezed my right hand on the steering wheel and softly asked, "Junhao, are you alright?"
"I'm fine," I smiled slightly at her.
She withdrew her hand, looked at the windshield, and said, "Junhao, can you tell me how your parents divorced back then?"
I sighed. "This question has been bothering me for a long time too..."
I began to tell Ji Yalei about the past. "My dad was a middle school art teacher. I initially learned to paint from him. He was very good to me back then, always doing his best to raise and nurture me."
"Back then, he and my mom were very loving, especially him. He treated my mom incredibly well, practically worshipping her. My mom was very beautiful when she was young. She gave birth to me when she was twenty. When I was little, people said I looked more like my mother, and I was always proud to have a beautiful and gentle mother." "
But when I was fourteen, they suddenly divorced, without any warning. They had never argued or fought before. In the years that followed, they never told me why they divorced."
"What I don't understand even more is that after my dad and mom divorced, he suddenly became very cold towards me. I don't know why. He used to love me so much and spoil me. After the divorce, he seemed like a completely different person. Later, he married a woman more than ten years younger than him, who was one of his former students. She even gave birth to my half-brother."
"I rarely see my brother. In the past eleven years, I haven't seen him once. He must be thirteen or fourteen years old now." "
After my parents divorced, I lived with my mom. Not long after, she married a very wealthy man who also had children from his previous marriage. My stepfather doesn't like me very much, and my mom, probably afraid of upsetting him, has become distant towards me."
"I started living at school in my first year of high school. Sometimes I didn't even go home on weekends, staying in the school dormitory. Because I felt like I didn't have a home. My dad's home wasn't my home, and my mom's home only made me feel cold and indifferent. I was only a teenager then, but I already understood what it felt like to not have a home." As
I spoke, I freed one hand that was driving to wipe away the tears that welled up in my eyes. Ji Yalei placed her left hand on my right hand and looked at me silently.
"So when I took the college entrance exam, I desperately wanted to go to university in another city, far away from my hometown, the farther the better. That's how I got into Suizhou, which is far from Zibo. After starting university, I only went back once. In my junior year, Zhengming's incident happened, and since then, I haven't gone back. I only occasionally talk to my parents on the phone. A few years ago, my mother got divorced again, but my father seems to be doing quite well with his second wife."
"Junhao..." After listening to my story, Ji Yalei looked at me with tears in her eyes.
I squeezed her hand and smiled calmly, "It's okay, I'm not sad. This time when I go back, I'll take you and the baby in your belly to meet them, which will be a way of putting an end to the past. I don't want to go back anymore. The three of us... no, the four of us, will live a good life."
"Okay." She wiped away her tears and smiled at me.
The night I arrived in Zibo, I arranged to meet my mother. Before that, I had already told her and my father that I was going back.
I had originally planned to have a meal with my parents, but considering their past grievances and their current complete estrangement, I decided to invite them separately. After
checking into the hotel and resting for a while, the three of us went to the restaurant where we had reserved a private room. Ji Yalei even dressed herself and He Xiaoqin up carefully.
While waiting for my mother in the private room of the hotel, Ji Yalei seemed a little nervous. I laughed and said, "People say an ugly daughter-in-law is afraid to meet her in-laws. You're such a beautiful daughter-in-law, what are you afraid of?"
Ji Yalei laughed and said, "I heard you say before that your mother is a great beauty, I'm afraid I'll pale in comparison! Also, I'm afraid she won't be satisfied with me as her daughter-in-law."
I laughed and said, "You're overthinking it. My mother is over fifty, she's long past her prime, why are you worried about being outshone by her? As for whether she's satisfied with you as her daughter-in-law? Anyway, we won't be living together, and we won't even have much contact, so why do you care whether she's satisfied with you or not?"
Ji Yalei said, "That's true, but she's still your mother. This is also my first time meeting my mother-in-law, so it's inevitable that I'm a little nervous."
Actually, my emotions were even more turbulent. I hadn't seen my mother for over ten years. Nervousness, excitement, and anticipation were all mixed together, making my heart surge.
More importantly, I wanted to take this opportunity to ask my mother why she had ignored me for over ten years? Did she even not want me anymore?

72.
Just then, the sound of high heels clicking on the floor rang out, and a still-attractive middle-aged woman walked into the private room, carrying a Hermès bag.
This was my mother, fifty-one years old this year, but she looked much younger than her actual age, appearing to be only in her forties. She maintained a very good figure; although somewhat plump, she was quite slender for a woman her age.
My mother was adorned with gold and silver jewelry, sparkling with jewels, but her outfit was truly an eyesore. She wore a tight-fitting, low-cut mini-dress, her breasts high and revealing a deep cleavage—round and white, hardly resembling the breasts of a fifty-year-old woman.
I inwardly grumbled, thinking, "A woman of her age, dressed so revealingly, especially to meet her son whom she hasn't seen in eleven years and her daughter-in-law whom she's meeting for the first time! She's really something!"
"Junhao..." My mother rushed over and hugged me as soon as she saw me, pressing her ample breasts against my body and kissing me on both cheeks. "Mommy missed you so much, Mommy missed you so much!"
I knew that despite her seemingly affectionate, even overly affectionate, behavior, she didn't really miss me. If she truly missed me, how could she have gone eleven years without mentioning me coming back, or even thinking of visiting me in Suizhou?
I gently pushed her away, feeling rather embarrassed as I avoided looking at her cleavage, and said, "Mom, let me introduce you..."
Then, pointing to Ji Yalei, I said, "This is my wife, Ji Yalei."
"Mom!" Ji Yalei called out sweetly.
"Yale! So beautiful, even more beautiful than in the photos!" My mother chuckled, taking Ji Yalei's hand.
“Oh, no! Mom is the prettiest! Compared to you, I’m just an ugly duckling.”
My mom was overjoyed. “Ya Lei, you’re so good with words, haha…”
“Mom, let me introduce you to someone else…” I pushed He Xiaoqin in her wheelchair in front of my mom.
“Is this Xiaoqin?” my mom asked with a smile. Before returning to Shandong, I had not only told my mom about Ji Ya Lei’s situation, but she was also aware of my taking care of He Xiaoqin over the years.
“Hello, Auntie.” He Xiaoqin smiled sweetly.
“Hello, hello, what a pretty little girl…” my mom smiled and gently patted He Xiaoqin’s cheek.
She took out two exquisite boxes from her Hermès bag, gifts for Ji Yalei and He Xiaoqin. "Here, take these, they're gifts from Mom."
Ji Yalei declined, "Mom, how can I accept this?"
My mother said seriously, "As your mother-in-law, it's my first time meeting my daughters-in-law, I should at least give them a small gift, right? Besides, I didn't give you anything when you got married, consider this a wedding gift from Mom!"
Ji Yalei had no choice but to accept, "Thank you, Mom!"
Seeing that He Xiaoqin wouldn't take it, my mother said firmly, "Xiaoqin, take this, it's a small token of my appreciation."
The little girl looked at me, I nodded to her, and she finally accepted it. My mother then said, "Open them and see, we're not strangers."
Ji Yalei and He Xiaoqin each opened the boxes, inside were two necklaces, Ji Yalei's was a platinum necklace with a diamond pendant, and Xiaoqin's was a crystal necklace set with diamonds, both quite valuable.
After my mother divorced her extremely wealthy second husband, she received a huge sum of money and joined the ranks of the rich.
"Mom, this won't do, it's too expensive..." Ji Yalei said hesitantly, then looked at me.
"Expensive? It's not worth much. I'm your mother-in-law! Is it wrong to give my daughter-in-law a slightly more expensive gift?"
My mother said, then turned to me and said, "Junhao, say something."
"Take it!" I said calmly, and Ji Yalei and He Xiaoqin accepted the gift.
Then my mother took Ji Yalei's hand and sat her on the sofa, exchanging warm greetings and asking all sorts of questions, including about the baby in her belly. She already knew about Ji Yalei's pregnancy from our previous phone call.
I sat next to He Xiaoqin, silently watching this mother-in-law and daughter-in-law meeting for the first time. My mother's skirt was very short, and since she was sitting, she inadvertently revealed glimpses of her underwear, making me embarrassed to look at her. I thought to myself, "How old is she? Why is she dressed like this?"
Ji Yalei glanced at me every now and then, as if to say, "Your mother is doing great! Very warm and friendly." I smiled and shook my head slightly at her, meaning, "Don't be fooled by appearances."
The two women chatted for a while, and Ji Yalei took out the gift she had given my mother—a beautiful jade bracelet. My mother politely declined, but accepted it.
As the dishes were served, the four of us sat around the table, eating and chatting. My mother sat next to Ji Yalei, talking non-stop. Ji Yalei rarely asked about us, mainly talking about her current life—beauty treatments, yoga, and the like. It was clear that she was living a very comfortable and leisurely life, having achieved complete financial freedom and enjoying life to the fullest without any constraints.
"By the way, Yalei, you're pregnant now, so you can't continue your work as a detective, right?" my mother asked.
“Yes!” Ji Yalei put down her chopsticks, gently stroking her belly, her face full of the joy of becoming a mother. She smiled and said, “Not only now, but in the future, in order to have time to take care of the child, I can no longer work as a criminal investigator.”
“That’s good. The work of a criminal investigator is not only tiring but also very dangerous. It’s not a job for women. It’s better to retire early,” my mother said.
Ji Yalei looked at me, smiled, and remained silent. My mother then asked, “So what kind of work are you planning to do in the future?”
“According to what the previous leaders said, I might go to a local police station as a deputy director or deputy instructor or something?”
“Police stations are busy enough. My best friend’s son works as a beat cop at a police station. It’s chaotic and annoying.”
Ji Yalei laughed and said, “Yes! Isn’t that what being a policeman is like? But it’s still not as hard as being a criminal investigator.”
“That’s true…” My mother said, taking out her phone from her Hermes bag, looking at it, and putting it to her ear to answer the call.
"Hmm, are we here? Yes, yes, this is the private room. Come on, we've been waiting for you... Bye-bye."
After my mom hung up the phone, I asked, "Mom, who was that?"
She said shyly, "Who was that? My boyfriend. You're back now, right? Let him meet you."
Hearing my mom say that, I was quite dissatisfied. I hadn't seen her for eleven years, and we finally had a mother-son reunion. We hadn't even exchanged a few words before her boyfriend showed up. She didn't even ask my opinion beforehand and just called him here. What was going on? Besides, I hadn't heard her mention having a boyfriend before!
Ji Yalei noticed my dissatisfaction and squeezed my hand under the table.
A moment later, a man who looked to be nearly forty years old entered the private room. I was quite surprised. I had thought that my mom's so-called boyfriend would be at least a man in his fifties or sixties. I didn't expect him to be so young, more than ten years younger than my mom.
"Ah Hao, you're here!" My mom beamed as soon as she saw the man.
The man named Ahao bowed slightly to us. "Hello."
"Let me introduce you, this is my boyfriend, Qin Hao," my mother said, then introduced us to Qin Hao, "This is my son, Junhao, this is my daughter-in-law, Yalei, and this is Junhao's god-sister, Xiaoqin."
"Hello! Nice to meet you." Qin Hao shook hands with me, then nodded to Ji Yalei and He Xiaoqin, and sat down on my mother's side.
My mother called the waiter for a set of chopsticks and a bowl, but no one answered after calling twice. Qin Hao stood up and said, "There should be some in the private room, I'll get it myself."
He walked to a low cabinet, opened a drawer, took out a set of chopsticks and a bowl sealed with plastic film, and sat back down next to my mother.
This Qin Hao was about 1.7 meters tall, with a straight figure, quite handsome, wearing glasses, with shoulder-length hair, and a light mustache on his upper lip and chin. He looked very refined and had a bit of an artistic air about him.
My mother held up the jade bracelet on her wrist to him and said, "This was a gift from Ya Lei, what do you think?"
"It's quite pretty, it suits you very well," Qin Hao replied while removing the plastic film from the sealed bowls and chopsticks, glancing at me.
Then he chatted with me and Ji Ya Lei for a few minutes, mostly about trivial things, asking when we arrived in Zibo, if the journey was smooth, how many days we planned to stay, etc.
To be honest, from the moment Qin Hao entered the private room, I didn't have a good impression of him. It wasn't just because he was more than ten years younger than my mother, but more importantly, he seemed quite cunning. I've been in the sex industry for ten years, and I know all too well men who prey on older women for money and sex. My mother, a big-breasted, brainless older woman, is easily fooled.
"Ah Hao, what do you do for a living?" I asked casually.
Qin Hao adjusted his glasses and said, "Mainly some writing work."
"Our Ah Hao! He's a poet!" My mother put her hand on Qin Hao's shoulder and said with a proud look.
“I wouldn’t call myself a poet, just writing whatever comes to mind.” Qin Hao gently removed my mother’s hand from his shoulder, glancing at me somewhat awkwardly. He wasn’t keen on being too affectionate with my mother in front of me and Ji Yalei.
“Let me tell you, Hao is incredibly talented; his poetry is excellent,” my mother said with interest.
Hearing this, I realized that these days, so-called poets were often just people without a proper job, so I asked, “When did you start being a poet? Did you start right after graduating from school?”
My tone was laced with sarcasm. Qin Hao smiled. “Yes! I’ve been writing poetry ever since I graduated from university. But, given the current environment in China, it’s difficult to support yourself solely as a poet, so I also do some small business with friends and make some small investments.”
My mother chuckled, “Hao is very capable and ambitious; he wants to be the best poet in China, so I strongly support him.”
At this point, I basically understood Qin Hao and the situation between him and my mother.

73.
Throughout the entire dinner, my mother was very affectionate and caring towards Qin Hao, constantly helping him with this and that, making Qin Hao repeatedly say, "I can do it myself, I can do it myself..."
Witnessing this, Ji Yalei and I exchanged glances several times. To be honest, I was quite jealous. My mother had never been so kind to me before, and compared to her, it seemed like Qin Hao was her son.
"You know what?" my mother said, putting her arm around Qin Hao's shoulder, "Ah Hao often tells me that I am the source of his creativity, and he has written many poems for me."
She then said to Qin Hao, "By the way, darling, why don't you read one to them?"
Qin Hao smiled awkwardly, "In this kind of situation, let's forget about it."
My mother persisted, "What's wrong with this kind of situation? They're not strangers, just read one!"
Qin Hao continued to be embarrassed, "This, this..."
I had no choice but to help Qin Hao out of the predicament. Actually, I didn't want to hear any rubbish poetry either. "Mom, don't make things difficult for them, let's listen to Ah Hao's masterpiece another day?"
My mother finally gave up. At this moment, He Xiaoqin whispered to Ji Yalei, "Sister-in-law, I need to use the restroom."
Ji Yalei was about to get up when I stood up and said, "I'll do it! Be careful of your stomach." I
walked over and carried He Xiaoqin in my arms. It was only a few steps, and I was too lazy to use the wheelchair, so I carried her directly into the restroom in the private room.
My mother and Qin Hao were dumbfounded. My mother was astonished that I was personally helping such a young girl use the restroom, while Qin Hao hadn't expected such a pretty girl to be disabled.
My mother pointed to the restroom and asked Ji Yalei, "Yale, he...he...he helped Xiaoqin use the restroom
, how old is that girl?" Ji Yalei smiled calmly, "For the past ten years or so, the two siblings have lived like this. After Xiaoqin's mother passed away, only Junhao took care of her. He even bathed her, let alone helped her use the restroom."
"Ah?" My mother's mouth dropped open.
Ji Yalei smiled and said, "Mom, you have a wonderful son, and I have a wonderful husband."
As the dinner was nearing its end, Qin Hao glanced at his watch and said to my mother, "Is that enough? Junhao and the others have been traveling all day; they must be tired. Let them go home and rest early."
My mother said, "Okay..."
She then said to me, "When are you going back to Guangdong? I'll treat you to dinner later. How about tomorrow?"
I said I had dinner plans with Dad tomorrow, and my mother said the day after tomorrow. I said I'd think about it later!
Then I said to Qin Hao, "Hao, I'm sorry, my mom and I haven't seen each other for eleven years. We have some things to talk about. Could you go ahead?"
Qin Hao adjusted his glasses and smiled, "No problem."
He then asked my mom, "I'll wait for you in the car. Did you drive?"
My mom said no, and he smiled and said, "See you in the car then."
"Okay."
Qin Hao stood up, said goodbye to me and Ji Yalei, and walked out of the private room. I said to Ji Yalei, "Why don't you wait for me in the car too?"
"Okay," Ji Yalei replied, then said goodbye to my mom, "Goodbye, Mom."
Then she pushed He Xiaoqin out, and He Xiaoqin also said goodbye to my mom from her wheelchair. Qin Hao said, "Then let's go down together. My car is in the garage."
He took the wheelchair from Ji Yalei, "Little sister, shall I push you?"
"Thank you, Uncle," He Xiaoqin said.
Only my son and I remained in the private room. I said, "Mom..."
My mother replied, "Son!"
I smiled slightly and raised my hand, "You go first."
"What kind of life did you lead in Suizhou?" my mother questioned immediately.
"What's wrong, Mom?" I smiled at her.
"What's wrong? This girl is so grown up, and you were helping her to the toilet and bathing her. Aren't you ashamed? Aren't you tired?" my mother said indignantly.
I smiled and said, "Xiaoqin is my sister. I'm not ashamed, and I'm not tired at all."
"You..." My mother was speechless with anger. "Eleven years, Junhao, and you're still clinging to this burden. When will you stop?"
I said coldly, "For life, until I die."
"Are you trying to drive me crazy?" My mother slammed her hand on the table and shouted, "The car accident back then wasn't your fault. You've taken care of her for several years, which is more than enough. You've done right by her. Besides, she's a local with so many relatives. If all else fails, there's an orphanage! Do you think you can take the lead?"
I became emotional as well. "Let me tell you, Mom, even if Xiaoqin's relatives are willing to take care of her, even if an orphanage takes her in, even if her bastard father who abandoned her and her two children has a change of heart and comes back to find her, I won't give her to anyone. Xiaoqin is my sister, my blood relative, and I will never be separated from her in this lifetime."
"You, you, you..." My mother was so angry she was incoherent. "Junhao, Junhao, Mom feels sorry for you. I don't want to see you like this, I don't want you to be a burden for the rest of your life."
"I haven't been a burden, not even a little bit. On the contrary, Xiaoqin has given me so much..." I pointed to my chest and said, "When you and Dad ignored me for eleven years, when I felt like a homeless street urchin, it was Xiaoqin who gave me a home. It's because of her that I have a home. Of course, now there's also Yalei and the child in her belly, so I feel very lucky and happy."
"You're better off not mentioning Yalei. I get angry as soon as you do."
"What about Yalei now?"
"Yes, she's very beautiful, a stunning young woman, exactly your type. Of course, she's also a police officer, a prestigious profession, but she's still a divorced woman! My son." My
mother slammed her hand on the table, and as she leaned forward, her ample breasts and cleavage were revealed even more, trembling slightly with her excitement. "You're so handsome and talented, you could have any woman you wanted, why did you have to choose a divorced woman? If it weren't for Xiaoqin dragging you down, would you have done this?" "
These two things have absolutely nothing to do with each other. The only connection is that Yalei is willing to take care of Xiaoqin for the rest of her life."
I said, "Mom, are you done? If you're done, I have something to say to you."
"Go ahead." My mother huffed and looked away.
"Mom, how old are you? Don't you feel embarrassed showing this and that?"
My mother blushed deeply, instinctively covering her cleavage with one hand and placing the other between her legs, even closing her legs slightly. She finally knew how to be shy in front of her son.
"I...I...what's wrong with me? Many women dress like this these days. Your mother isn't that old, just over fifty. People who don't know better would think I'm in my early forties!" my mother stammered.
"That's not my point, I just wanted to remind you not to be disrespectful to your age."
"You!" My mother glared at me angrily.
I gestured for her to calm down and continued, "I'm asking you, what exactly is your relationship with that Ah Hao?"
"Didn't I say? He's my boyfriend."
"Your boyfriend? How old is he compared to you? Do you think you two are a good match?"
"Yes, Ah Hao is twelve years younger than me..." my mother said stubbornly, "But so what? The age difference isn't a barrier between us. What era are we living in? Why are you still so worldly?"
I had said the same thing to Suo Wanling before, but the relationship between Suo Wanling and me was completely different from the relationship between my mother and that Ah Dong.
“Mom, I don’t object to you dating or remarrying, but you have to find someone reliable! This Ahao is completely unreliable.”
“How is Ahao unreliable? Tell me!”
“He’s deliberately getting close to you, trying to swindle money and sex from an old woman like you. Wake up!”
“Chen Junhao, you’re being outrageous! How can you talk to your mother like that?” My mother’s face flushed red as she glared at me angrily.
She paused for a moment and said, “Ahao and I aren’t like that at all. I love him, and he loves me. We’re in love, son.”
I sneered, “He loves you? Loves what? His money, right?”
“No way! Ahao never asks me for money; I always give it to him…”
Hearing my mother say this, I realized she’d met her match. She continued, “Ahao said I’m his goddess. He fell in love with me the first time he saw me; it was love at first sight.”
I cried out inwardly, “My mother!” "You're over fifty, not a seventeen or eighteen-year-old girl. You believe this kind of nonsense?
But it's not surprising. My mother, an old and lonely woman whose looks have faded, still retains some charm. She's still full of longing for passion between men and women, and sometimes she's even more easily deceived by men than young girls. There are too many similar cases.
" "And what about you? What do you love about him?" I didn't want to get entangled with her, so I continued to ask.
"I love his talent, I love his gentleness and consideration for me, isn't that enough?"
I sneered. "Let me tell you the most important point for you? You love his youth and strength, the ability to make you feel good!"
"You bastard!" My mother slapped me across the face, tears welling up in her eyes. "Junhao, you...you, how could you say such a thing to your own mother?"
I touched the cheek where I had been slapped and said, "Mom, I want to ask you a question. This question has been bothering me for over ten years, but you've never told me..."
I looked up at her. "Now that I'm married and going to be a father, I hope you can tell me the truth. Why did you and Dad divorce? Why did you suddenly divorce? And why did Dad, who loved me so much before, stop wanting me after the divorce?"
My mother stared at me blankly, tears streaming down her face. After

a
long pause, she wiped away her tears, sobbed, and said, "Fine, since that's the case, I'll tell you..."
My mother looked up at me. "Because you're not your father's son at all."
I was stunned, staring at my mother in disbelief. She continued, "You're my child with another man. Your father never knew. After I got pregnant with you, I married him, and he always thought you were his biological child..."
I watched my mother shake her head, tears streaming down her face. I never imagined that the father who had cared for me for over a decade, whom I had called Dad for over thirty years, was completely unrelated to me.
"Until you were fourteen, because of a chance incident, your father discovered the truth. And that's how everything happened..."
My mother sobbed as she spoke. I remembered what she had said. It was during the second semester of my second year of junior high school, at the school's spring sports meet. I fell and injured myself, bleeding a lot, and was taken to the hospital. It's very likely that it was then that my father discovered, through the blood type discrepancy, the unbearable truth that I wasn't his son.
"Junhao, I'm so sorry to him, and I'm so sorry to you..." My mother said, tears streaming down her face, her voice choked with sobs. "I caused all of this. But I really had no choice at the time. In those days, being pregnant out of wedlock could ruin a girl's life!"
She sobbed uncontrollably. I wiped away my tears and said coldly, "Where is that person? My biological father, where is he now? Is he still alive?"
My mother stopped crying and said, "I don't know. He went abroad at the time and didn't even know I was pregnant with you. Back then, your father loved me so much, and I had no choice but to marry him."
At this moment, I finally understood why my father, who had always loved and doted on me, had suddenly become a stranger to me. I can easily imagine the resentment and humiliation my father must have felt when he suddenly discovered that the son he had raised for over a decade was someone else's child.
"I can understand my father's reaction and choice, but what about you?" I looked at my mother and said coldly, "Why are you so indifferent to me too?"
She wiped away her tears and looked away, saying, "Because I feel sorry for you, I can't face you..."
"You feel sorry for me, you can't face me, so you've ignored me for over ten years?" I asked, pointing to my chest with grief and indignation.
Her tearful eyes fixed on me, "Besides all that, I also hate you..."
"You hate me?" I was even more confused.
"Yes!" My mother nodded firmly, "Initially, it was because I hated your biological father. He made me pregnant with you and then abandoned me. Then I transferred that hatred to you. Your existence forced me to live with a man I didn't love for over ten years, and because of you, I had to marry a decrepit old man."
"What does your remarriage have to do with me? Did I force you to marry?" I asked, staring at her.
"Heh..." She chuckled coldly. "How can it not be related? I'm a woman in my thirties, divorced with a child in tow, and I can't do anything. If I didn't do that, how would I support you?"
Tears streamed down her face again, which she wiped away as she looked away. "I finally achieved financial freedom and found a man I love, and you're here interfering. You said you hadn't been back for over ten years, so why are you suddenly back?"
"Why should I come back? Shouldn't I come back?" I was filled with both sorrow and anger. I had always deeply loved this woman in front of me, and I had always longed for her maternal love. Even though she was indifferent to me, I still loved her; I just didn't want to admit it.
Tears streamed down my face. "The reason I didn't want to come back before was because you and Dad didn't want me, and I couldn't come back. But do you know?"
I suddenly raised my voice, pointing into the air, "How did I get through these past ten years in Suizhou? Countless nights, I dreamt of you and Dad. Countless dreams, I returned to the days when the three of us were together. Countless times, I watched you and Dad leave me in my dreams, waking up crying and calling out 'Dad, Mom.' Do you know any of this?"
My mother closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face. I also cried uncontrollably, trying hard not to cry. "Now I'm married, and I'm about to have a child. I thought I had to come back and see you, but you complain that I shouldn't have come back! Did my coming back bother you?"
My mother still looked away, not saying anything, just wiping away her tears. I stood up abruptly and said to her, "Ms. Liu Meiyun, if you didn't want to see me at all, and it was my own fault for coming back to you and even disturbing your life, then I apologize. I'm sorry."
As I spoke, I bowed deeply to her and remained there for a long time. She picked up her Hermes bag and stood up as well, wiping away tears, saying, "From now on, just pretend I'm not your mother. If you have anyone to blame, blame God for giving you these parents, especially this mother."
My mother finished speaking and turned to walk out of the private room. I straightened up, staring at her retreating figure with tears in my eyes, "Liu Meiyun, I have a question for you..."
She stopped but didn't turn around. I said, "Would you rather give all your love to your lover than spare a single bit for your own son?"
My mother tilted her head back and said, "Think what you want..."
Her words pierced my heart like a knife. I watched her no-longer-young but still graceful figure walk out of the private room...
In the car, Ji Yalei, sitting in the passenger seat, asked, "Finished talking with Mom?"
I hummed in agreement, started the car, and drove towards the garage exit without saying a word. On the way, Ji Yalei said, "Do you know what Qin Hao just said to me?"
"What did he say?" I asked, staring at the windshield.
“He said you look down on him and are prejudiced against him. He also said he's sincere towards your mother.”
“Do you think my judgment is correct?”
Ji Yalei sighed softly. “Yes and no.”
“How so?”
“I think he's with your mother for money. But…”
Ji Yalei’s gaze shifted from the windshield to my face. “Junhao, do you know? All these years, your mother has been all alone, and it's always Qin Hao who's been with her, not you or anyone else. Sometimes, for a lonely person, companionship is very important.”
“According to you, my mother deserves to be deceived by him!” I said irritably.
“I didn’t say that…” Ji Yalei muttered, somewhat displeased.
I reached out and squeezed her hand. “I’m sorry, I take back what I just said. And even if she’s been deceived terribly, it has nothing to do with me.”
She looked at me in surprise. “Junhao, she is, after all, your mother…”
“She’s the one who didn’t want me.” I turned to look at the left rearview mirror, holding back the tears welling up in my eyes.
The original plan was to host a dinner for my dad and his family on the second evening after we arrived in Zibo. But that afternoon, my dad called to say they couldn't make it.
"...Your aunt suddenly felt unwell today, and I have to stay home to take care of her. Your brother also went to his aunt's house in Jinan, so, could you... reschedule for another day?"
I knew these were just excuses; they really didn't want to see me. I just didn't know if it was my dad's intention or my stepmother's.
A wave of sadness washed over me. I'd been away for over ten years, returning all this way to see my parents, only to be met with their cold indifference. One complained that I shouldn't have come back, while the other didn't even want to see me. Were they perhaps the most indifferent parents in the world?
But I could understand my dad; after all, I wasn't his biological son. My mom, however, couldn't understand. What kind of mother would treat her son like that?
"But I'm going back in a couple of days..." I said to my dad.
"Is that so?" My dad seemed hesitant.
"Dad, I think we should still meet? If Auntie isn't available, we can meet alone, near your house. It won't bother you taking care of Auntie. We can talk for a bit and give you the gifts for you and Auntie."
Although I knew he wasn't my biological father, I still wanted to call him Dad and see him. After all, he had raised me for over ten years and had been so good to me in the past.
My dad thought about it for a moment and agreed, "How about a teahouse near our neighborhood? I'll send you the address later."

Seventy-five.
I waited a while in the private room of the teahouse. My dad arrived, and when he walked in, my nose stung, and tears almost welled up.
"Junhao! We're just meeting to say a few words, why did you book a private room? It's such a waste of money!" my dad complained.
He was still as frugal as ever. He and my mom had never been on the same page. If it weren't for my mom being pregnant with me and having nowhere else to turn, they would never have gotten together.
He was fifty-seven years old this year, his hair already gray, looking a head older than eleven years ago, yet still as refined as ever.
"It's alright, it's convenient for us father and son to talk. Dad, please sit down." I gestured for my dad to sit down.
"You've grown taller and more handsome, and more mature..." my dad said, looking at me. I could still feel a kind of love in his eyes; after all, he had raised me for over ten years!
"Did you see your mom yesterday?" my dad asked.
"Yes..." I nodded in response.
During my conversation with my dad, my thoughts drifted back to the past. My dad taught me to draw, step by step, and often took me out to sketch.
Once, after sketching in the countryside, we were riding our bikes home when a sudden downpour soaked us to the bone, and I caught a cold. My mom scolded him severely and ignored him for days.
In my childhood memories, my dad was very good to my mom, spoiling her rotten and always giving in to her. You could say my mom was the head of our family of three; her words were law.
Looking back now, I realize it was an unequal relationship. My dad loved my mom, but my mom didn't love him at all; she was just staying with him out of necessity. Perhaps because of this, when my dad discovered I wasn't his biological son, he felt he had given his whole heart to my mother and me, only to receive such a return, which made him incredibly angry and resentful, leading to his treatment of me.
Fortunately, he's quite happy now, with his own son and a good life with his second wife.
Recalling the past, looking at this nearly sixty-year-old man before me, I couldn't help but shed tears.
"Junhao, what's wrong?" my dad suddenly asked.
I quickly wiped away my tears and smiled, "N-nothing, Dad, have some tea."
My dad picked up his teacup and took a sip. "How's your...disabled sister?"
He already knew about my taking care of Xiaoqin. I said, "She's fine. Except for not being able to walk, she's healthy in every other way, both physically and mentally."
"That's good. It's just that you've had a hard time." My dad nodded and asked about Ji Yalei. He already knew that Ji Yalei was a criminal police officer.
"By the way, Junhao, are you still painting?" he asked again.
"Yes! I've been painting all along, and I've sold quite a few pieces." I said.
"Really?" My dad became excited. He had always hoped that I could achieve something in art.
I took out my phone and showed him photos of my better works one by one. My dad looked at them carefully, occasionally commenting and discussing them with me. My father and I, like in the past, were immersed in the world of art.
After my dad finished reading, he took off his glasses and wiped them. I saw tears glistening in his eyes.
"Junhao! I wasn't wrong about you. You really are talented. And your current skill level has already surpassed mine. You've truly surpassed your teacher!"
My dad sighed. "I'm so happy for you."
"Dad..." I asked, "Is my brother drawing?"
My dad shook his head. "I used to teach him, but he has no interest in art, nor does he have your talent. Speaking of which, it's not him who inherited my talent, but..."
He almost let slip the truth, but stopped himself, because he didn't know I already knew the truth.
I smiled and said, "Everyone has their own talents and interests. There's no need to force it. My brother is still young; he'll excel in other areas."
As the meeting was about to end, I handed my dad the gift I had brought. He said, "What are you doing? Why spend so much money?"
"Dad!" I cried out, tears streaming down my face. I knelt down in front of him with a thud and kowtowed three times.
My dad panicked. "What are you doing? Get up, get up..."
I stood up, tears welling in my eyes, and said, "I already know. My mom told me everything..."
"Huh?" My dad was stunned.
I took out a bank card with 200,000 yuan in it and stuffed it into his shirt pocket.
"What are you doing now?" My dad put down what he was holding and took the card out of his pocket to give it back to me. "No, no, I can't accept this no matter what..."
I grabbed his hand and stuffed the card back into his shirt pocket. "Dad, listen to me. The three kowtows I just did, and this money, are to thank you for raising me for over ten years, and to apologize on behalf of my mom, but it's not to buy anything..."
I stared at him and continued, "If you still want to acknowledge me, I'm still your son, just like I was before I was fourteen. And you're my only father."
My dad patted my shoulder, turned his head away, and tears streamed down his face.
He wiped away his tears and said, "Next time you come, bring your wife and kids, and I'll bring your aunt and your brother. Let's have a proper family gathering, Dad's treating."
"Okay, Dad." I looked at him, tears welling up again.
As the father and son parted ways outside the teahouse, my dad said, "Um, Junhao, if your mother had told me the truth from the beginning, I... I think I would still be your father then, and none of this would have happened."
I smiled slightly and patted his arms on both sides. "Yeah, I believe you."
I turned and walked away. After walking a while, I heard him call out behind me, "Junhao, you should take this money back. I won't be able to explain it to your aunt later."
I turned around and smiled at him, "Then don't say anything, just keep it as your secret stash. Aren't you always henpecked?"
My dad laughed immediately, "You little rascal!"
I ran in the night, my mood lifting. It was the first time I'd felt truly good since returning to Zibo. Because I'd finally resolved a seventeen-year-old misunderstanding with my father.
On the day of our return trip, we drove back to Qingdao to return the car, then flew back to Guangzhou.
Below the airplane window, the land of Shandong receded further and further away, shrinking smaller and smaller in my vision. I didn't know when I'd be able to return to my hometown again.
"Honey, are you alright?" Ji Yalei asked, holding the back of my hand.
I turned to look at her and smiled, "I'm fine."
She smiled back at me.
That November, my art exhibition was held as scheduled. Gallery owner Mr. Wu spared no effort in preparing for the exhibition, inviting many art experts and even renowned figures, as well as media reporters.
Having already gained some fame through Mr. Wu's promotion, the exhibition attracted a steady stream of visitors. My oil painting "Goddess," based on the image of Suo Wanling, had already gained considerable fame in the art world, even being hailed as China's "Mona Lisa." Naturally, it was placed in the center of this exhibition for industry professionals and art enthusiasts to view.
My two beloved women—Ji Yalei and He Xiaoqin—accompanied me throughout the exhibition. I had initially considered that Ji Yalei, who was six months pregnant, shouldn't attend, but she insisted that it was her husband's first solo exhibition, and how could she miss it? Besides, letting the baby in her womb experience its father's achievement might even nurture a young painter in the future.
Seeing her determination, I agreed. To accommodate them, I also had my third aunt come along, and of course, I gave her overtime pay.
Wen Hong, Wen Xiaoting, Wen Xiuxiu, Heipi, Huang Mao, A Jun, Lao Xie, and others also came. Although they didn't understand art, they came to support me, after all, it was my first solo exhibition!
Heipi, Huang Mao, and Lao Xie were especially excited because they had never imagined they could become friends with an artist. The blond-haired guy even pretended to be an expert, giving me a serious critique of my painting, which was quite amusing. Blackie, afraid he'd embarrass me, quickly pulled him aside.
I hadn't expected anyone to come—it was Suo Wanling's best friend, An Huimin.

Seventy-six.
When An Huimin walked into the exhibition hall with her captivating charm, I was genuinely surprised. It wasn't until General Manager Wu went to greet her that I realized General Manager Wu was a mutual friend of hers and Suo Wanling; he must have invited her.
An Huimin lingered in front of the painting "Goddess" for
a long time. When I walked to her side, she looked at Suo Wanling on the canvas and said to me, "You still can't forget her, can you?" I smiled slightly, "Some people, some things, I will always keep deep in my heart, never forgotten. But that's all, it won't affect my life now."
An Huimin smiled at me, "It's good that you think that way. Want to know where the person in the painting is now?"
I smiled back at her, "Would you like to tell me?"
"She's in a faraway place..."
Hearing her say this, I couldn't help but show surprise. An Huimin chuckled, "Don't be nervous, I'm not talking about heaven or anything like that."
I secretly breathed a sigh of relief. An Huimin continued, "Wanling is in Austria now, that's far enough, isn't it?"
I thought to myself, she's been avoiding me quite a bit. I asked, "Has she always been there?"
An Huimin nodded. I asked again, "Why didn't you tell me back then, but are you willing to tell me now?"
"Because times have changed! You're married now, and you're about to become a father, so telling you won't hurt."
"Then why did she go there?" I asked.
An Huimin looked around, then said in a low but serious voice, "You're still asking this kind of question now? Don't you know why she went to such a faraway place? Don't you know how much you hurt them by having two relationships at the same time?"
She looked around again, "Chen Junhao, I don't know what kind of magic you cast on Wanling? Making her love you so deeply, so desperately, that she was afraid she wouldn't be able to resist coming back to you, so she went to hide in such a faraway place."
Hearing An Huimin's words, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sorrow and said, "Sister An, that's not what I meant, you misunderstood. What I meant was, why did she choose to settle in Austria?"
An Huimin said, "Because she has always loved classical music, and she also loves Austria. She bought some property there a few years ago."
I felt that An Huimin was right. Suo Wanling did indeed love classical music, and her favorite piece was also my favorite piece, Massenet's "Meditation."
"Is she doing well there now?" I couldn't help but ask.
An Huimin nodded and said, "That's good..."
Her next words greatly surprised me, "She got married over there, to a local Chinese man, and she's going to be a mother again soon."
I asked in surprise, "She's going to be a mother again?"
Suo Wanling is forty-four years old this year; I didn't expect her to have a child again at such an advanced age.
"Yes, the due date is next month..." An Huimin turned to me and smiled, "Shouldn't you be happy for her?"
"Of course." I smiled, my feelings complicated. What man would truly be happy to hear that the woman he once deeply loved, the woman he still can't forget, is having a child with another man?
I didn't quite understand something. Since she still loved me, why did she get married again so quickly and prepare to have a child? Perhaps she wanted to get out of the emotional vortex between us as soon as possible and start a new life? I told myself that.
“Sigh!” An Huimin suddenly sighed, “The mother got married, but the daughter got divorced.”
I was startled again: “Who got divorced?”
“Feifei!” she said, “Last month?”
“Feifei? Didn’t she just get married not long ago?” I was even more surprised.
“Not long ago, the wedding was held in January this year, only nine months.”
“What was the reason?”
“Personality, lifestyle, and many other factors! Before marriage, you don’t know, but after living together for a long time after marriage, all these disharmony points are exposed. Moreover, her husband is quite chauvinistic. He hid it very well when he was pursuing her, but after marriage, his true colors were revealed. How could Feifei stand that? She resolutely divorced her husband.”
An Huimin said, then sighed again, “Feifei married herself off so easily back then, it was really too hasty, sigh!”
Listening to her words, I couldn’t help but feel a lot of emotions. Before, I thought Su Fei’s husband was an outstanding man who would definitely make her happy, so when she confessed to me for the last time at the teahouse that day, I personally pushed her to that man. I never imagined it would end like this.
For a moment, I felt I owed this mother and daughter far too much, a debt I could never repay in this lifetime.
An Huimin chatted with me for a few more minutes, then wandered off to look at other paintings. After a while, she suddenly turned her head and saw a tall, handsome young man staring at her.
When their eyes met, An Huimin's heart pounded; a mix of anger, rage, and excitement overwhelmed her, making her feel as if she were suffocating.
But the thought of his heartlessness that night filled her with resentment and anger. She shifted her gaze to the painting, but couldn't help thinking, "My God! It's been months, and he's still so handsome, like a male lead in a Korean drama."
When she turned to look again, the young man was gone, and a wave of disappointment washed over her. She told herself, "An Huimin, forget that bastard. He treated you like that, what illusions do you still have about him?"
In the parking lot, as An Huimin got into her car and was about to start it, there was a knock on the passenger window. Ah Jun leaned out and looked at her.
She tried to calm her racing heart, rolled down the window, and coldly said, "What are you doing here?"
"Sister Min, I...I missed you..." Ah Jun said.
Just those words almost melted An Huimin's heart. But in that instant, she thought of that night on the school playground, when he trampled her dignity underfoot. No matter how shamelessly she begged him, even offering to suck his genitals and let him have his way with her, he remained unmoved, leaving her alone on the dark playground and never returning.
That night, she spent the most desolate, helpless, and heartbroken night of her life, crying alone on the playground for a long time, not even bothering to wipe away the filth he had ejaculated on her buttocks, pulling up her underwear and leaving.
An Huimin held back the tears that were about to overflow her eyes and coldly uttered a single word, "Get out!" Just as
she was about to start the car, Ah Jun suddenly stood on the hood, his eyes, which could make any woman's heart flutter, causing her last line of defense to crumble.
She burst into tears, burying her face in the steering wheel and sobbing. After a while, she wiped away her tears and pressed the unlock button…
The hotel room was filled with the wanton moans of a woman. Men's and women's clothing, including bras and lace panties, were scattered everywhere on the floor and sofa.
An Huimin straddled A-Jun, her arms around his neck, her body rising and falling rhythmically. She moaned incessantly as she kissed A-Jun.
“Sister Min, I'm sorry, I was wrong, it was my fault,” A-Jun said, kissing An Huimin.
“Yes, I know, I don't blame you…” An Huimin stared at her lover, lost in passion, and kissed his lips again, climbing towards climax.
As the storm subsided, An Huimin regained some clarity. She lit a cigarette and said coldly, "Are you short of money, that's why you came to me?"
"No, sister..." Ah Jun lowered his head, like a child who had done something wrong. "I've applied for a student grant for impoverished students, and I've also won a scholarship. I'm also working part-time, so I'm not that short of money."
"Then why did you come to me?" An Huimin sneered, flicking ash from her cigarette in the ashtray. "I'm forty-two years old this year, my son is in college, twenty years older than you. What else can an old woman like me attract you besides money?"
Ah Jun suddenly hugged her, burying his head in her shoulder and neck, murmuring, "Sister, I was wrong..."
He sobbed, "I was really wrong. For a long time after that night, I regretted it, I regretted it so much. I often thought about the time we spent together, and every time, I missed you so much..."
"Save your lies for those naive young girls!" An Huimin tried to calm herself, but tears still streamed down her face.
She sobbed and said, "I don't believe any of this."

Seventy-seven.
Ah Jun was silent for a moment, then looked up and said, "Sister, I know you won't believe me, and you won't forgive me. I came to you today to say sorry. Whether you forgive me or not, I have to say this, otherwise I'll have a guilty conscience for the rest of my life."
He said, tears streaming down his face. An Huimin also wept, looking away without saying a word.
"I'm sorry, sister, I'm so sorry, I was wrong..." Ah Jun sobbed, his head bowed.
An Huimin was also in tears, constantly wiping away her tears as she looked away.
"Sister, I'm leaving. Take care. If you can't forget the hurt I caused you, let me come back in the next life to make up for my mistakes?" Ah Jun said, getting up to get dressed.
An Huimin's tears flowed again and again, silently watching the boy she loved so deeply, still without saying a word. She called out to him only after he was dressed and reached the door, "Ah Jun..."
Ah Jun stopped and turned around. An Huimin, her eyes brimming with tears, said, "What you just said, is it all true?"
Ah Jun nodded tearfully, "Yes, sister, it's all from the bottom of my heart. If there's even a single lie, then... then may I die by your hand one day."
"Then why didn't you come to see me all this time? Why are you only telling me this now?" An Huimin looked at him with her tearful eyes.
He said, "Because I didn't have the face to see you! Sister..."
He cried again, "Until today, when I unexpectedly met you at my brother's art exhibition, I finally mustered the courage to appear before you." "
Ah Jun..." An Huimin cried out, jumping off the bed and running to her lover, embracing him tightly.
The two wept in each other's arms, and finally, they kissed passionately. While kissing Ah Jun, An Huimin undressed him, and then they both fell onto the bed. She held him there, eagerly guiding him deep inside her…
At that moment, neither of them could have imagined that they were embarking on a path to hell together.
The art exhibition that day was a great success, and that evening, Mr. Wu held a celebration banquet. Besides Mr. Wu, the gallery staff, and myself, some industry colleagues and media friends attended.
After the banquet, Mr. Wu's driver first took me home, then took Mr. Wu home. We both drank quite a bit, and Mr. Wu, in his drunken state, spoke the truth. He told me that he wasn't my benefactor; my true benefactor was someone else entirely—Suo Wanling.
I was astonished. Through Mr. Wu's fragmented narration, I learned everything Suo Wanling had done for me.
From my first meeting with Mr. Wu last October, almost everything had been orchestrated behind the scenes by Suo Wanling. For example, most of the paintings I sold were bought by Suo Wanling. Including this exhibition, from the initial publicity and promotion, the venue rental, to inviting industry veterans and media reporters, all the expenses were funded by Suo Wanling.
In other words, from the very beginning, the person who packaged and promoted me was actually Suo Wanling, and President Wu was merely her agent.
"Junhao!" President Wu slapped my thigh, reeking of alcohol, and said, "I don't know what your relationship with President Suo is, but I can tell she's deeply in love with you! You're incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful woman's favor."
That night, back home, I tossed and turned, unable to sleep, thinking about what An Huimin and President Wu had told me. Looking at Ji Yalei sleeping soundly beside me, I told myself, let bygones be bygones. A new sun will rise tomorrow.
Even so, I still silently called out to Suo Wanling, far away in Austria, "Sister Ling, we are not destined to be together in this life, but in the next, let us be a pair of lovebirds."
In the darkness, two lines of tears silently slid down my face, my back to Ji Yalei…
Since An Huimin got back together with Ajun, she treated him even better, wanting to give him her whole heart.
But Ah Jun refused to use even a single penny of An Huimin's money. Every time An Huimin bought him something, he would say that he couldn't use her money and that he was with her not for her money.
Each time, it took An Huimin's persistent coaxing to finally get him to agree. Once, An Huimin came to the place she rented for A-Jun and found him crying. She asked him what had happened, but A-Jun refused to say a word.
Finally, An Huimin pretended to be angry, and he finally told her. It turned out his father's cancer had relapsed, and they were still far short of the surgery fees. Two years ago, he had resorted to prostitution to raise money for his father's surgery.
"Baby, why didn't you tell me? If I hadn't asked, were you planning to keep it from me forever?" An Huimin, tears streaming down her face, cupped her young lover's face and wiped away his tears.
"No, no, no, this won't do, absolutely not..." A-Jun said repeatedly, "I can't use your money, I absolutely can't use your money."
"Why?" An Huimin asked urgently.
“I’ve said it before, I’m not with you for your money. If I asked you for money, everyone would think I suddenly came to you that day to raise money for my father’s surgery.”
An Huimin smiled gently, pulling A-Jun’s head into her arms. “Silly boy, you came to me before your father’s illness, does that have anything to do with what you just said? And…”
She paused, then continued, “Even if you came to me after your father’s illness, I would still be willing to help you…”
She gazed tenderly into her young lover’s eyes, “Because, I love you! I really love you so much.”
A-Jun gazed back at her, “Really? Sister…”
An Huimin nodded and kissed A-Jun’s lips. The two kissed, took off their clothes, and became one on the bed.
“Baby, do you love me?” In her dazed state, An Huimin murmured.
“Mmm…” A-Jun responded as he thrust.
“I want you to say it…”
“I love you, baby…” A-Jun said, moving even faster.
That same day, An Huimin transferred the money needed for A-Jun’s father’s surgery to him.
Time flew by, and in February of the following year, Ji Yalei gave birth to a son a month prematurely. Although premature, he was healthy in every way. Ji Yalei and I both said that our son was so eager to see his parents that he came into this world early.
We named him Chen Airei, meaning "Chen Junhao loves Ji Yalei." Considering it was a boy, we removed the grass radical.
I told my dad the news and sent him photos and videos of Chen Airei. The old man was overjoyed, saying that some of his colleagues had already become grandfathers, and he had thought my younger brother would fall behind, but I had caught up.
My dad also said that he would bring my brother to Guangzhou to visit us during summer vacation. I secretly rejoiced that my trip to Zibo more than half a year earlier had resolved the misunderstanding between my father and me; otherwise, the world would have lost a father and son, and also a grandfather and grandson.
Ji Yalei relayed the news to my mother. Ji Yalei told me, "Although Mom didn't say it explicitly, I could tell she wanted to see her grandson."
"Let her come if she wants! It's her own body, who can stop her?"
I still harbored resentment about the unpleasant parting I had with my mother that night in Zibo. From that night until now, my mother and I haven't contacted each other once; a long-term cold war has been brewing between us.
"What are you saying?" Ji Yalei pinched my arm. "How can Mom come if you don't ask her yourself? Don't you have any pride?"
"Let me tell you, I absolutely won't say it. She can come if she wants, or not if she doesn't."
Just thinking about that night in the private room at the Zibo hotel, that resolute departing figure of my mother, chilled me to the bone.
"Sigh! I didn't expect the rift between you two to be so big?"
Seeing my firm attitude, Ji Yalei didn't bring it up again.
To take care of our son, we hired a postpartum nanny. Ji Yalei's family had held a strong grudge against her ever since her divorce, and with her sister-in-law having given birth to her second child a few months prior and her mother busy taking care of her grandson, they naturally wouldn't help us with the baby.
Our family of four moved into the large house Ji Yalei had previously bought. My aunt still frequently came to help care for He Xiaoqin, and we gave her a significant raise for this.
Right after finishing her postpartum confinement, Ji Yalei reported to a police station, where she became the deputy director. Meanwhile, the decoration company I co-founded with a friend was thriving, and my reputation in the art world had grown considerably since last year's exhibition; a single painting could fetch a substantial price.
Everything seemed to be moving in a better direction, but unexpectedly, misfortune was quietly descending.
